[Q] Which revision of USB flex cable should I use? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A very small amount of water got onto my charging port, and now it won't charge at all - the phone itself works fine, but it won't charge via cable or even recognize the phone when i plug in the USB->PC cable.
I'm thinking of replacing the USB flex cable, but I've read many posts on here about people having signal problems after installing theirs - and I see there's various different revisions being sold on ebay (revision 1.3, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 etc etc)
I've seen some people saying that even installing a new usb flex cable that has exactly the same revision number printed on it, gave them issues.
Can anybody please help shed some light on this for me?? Is there a 'best' revision, and if not, how do I know which I should buy? I really don't want to buy one, install it, and have problems.
Thank you so much..

I got the 2.2 version as that was the same as my phone originally had.

So that worked fine, and you didn't have any signal problems?
I'd really rather not open my phone just to see what revision number it has inside it.

You should buy the ones that people said have worked. Some of the posts have sellers name from eBay.

Thanks, but surely there's a reason for the various revision numbers? How do I know which to use? I would normally assume that later revision is better, but this doesn't seem to be the case...?

hey ma8, u have two options.
1) open the phone and see which version u have and go accordingly.
2) If ur reluctant with the above then go with what other users have already done and wrk'ng fine for them

Thank you. I guess 1) is the best option, it's just that I've read posts from other people experiencing issues with the signal becoming weak, even after replacing the board with exactly the same revision.

Thats not right pal.If you have read several threads(like Ive done),youll see people have bought the same revision as they have and its still faulty/doesnt work.
Some have bought blue boards instead of green and used different revision numbers.
Some sellers sell ones that work, and others dont.
The most common thing is this:
Peoples phone doesnt charge,so they buy new board and have signal problem. They put old board back in and signal back to normal....but no charging obviously.

Yes, exactly. So I want to know why people still experience problems even when they use exactly the same revision number. Obviously I don't want any issues, so I want to buy the right version.
Can nobody help shed light on this???

Dont know.Maybe suppliers are selling samsungs reject parts.

Power supply model with Known Fault

I have just been on the phone with an ASUS support Tech, and he has told me that one model of PSU has a known fault.
The model number is : 0B-LF.
Unfortunately my PSU is 0B-1LF, and as it does NOT have a known fault, it looks like I am going to be returning the whole tablet.
I had the option to return only the PSU, but if it turned out to be a tablet fault I would then be liable for any shipping costs for the second RMA.
As I have a few problems with case creek and speaker popping I will be returning the whole thing.
No Transformer for 7-10 days, and then all the hassle of reinstalling..
What a pain.
If you have the Charger with model number above,I Suggest you call ASUS asap.
You can get a cheaper call to the tech support by calling 01442202700 in the UK, and then requesting a transfer in the menus (saynoto0870.com ftw).

Mine is OB-1LF, how is that the same as OB-LF and whats faulty about it? My TF isn't faulty, would they just replace the power supply
0B-LF has a KNOWN to asus fault and will probably just be swapped out (i have no confirmation of this)
0B-1LF dosen't have a known fault, so if you have no problem then no need to get it replaced.

Thanks, I read what you said wrong I thought you were listing your model as equal to the faulty model, thanks for the info.
+1 on the confusing OP.
it seems like what you're saying is,
1) your tf has problems
2) a certain model# is know to asus to having problem
3) unforutately, you have a diff model #
4) therefore you gotta send yours back.
statements 1 and 4 doesn't seem to have anything to do with 2 and 3. it's quite confusing.

Perfectly clear and set out logically in first post. Don't see why people are having a hard time understanding it tbh. I would imagine that there aren't that many 0B-LF chargers circulating around. Usually anything to do with power adapter faults on a large-ish scale and it's an automatic recall required. The writing is ridiculously small on it though. Doesnt help that it has multiple languages on it either.

Apologies, I agree it wasn't 100% clear!
I say it is unfortunate that my charger isn't on the known fault list, because that means they won't just send me a new one, Instead I have to send back my entire TF so they can do the same fault finding I have already done.
I mainly opened this thread so that the faulty model number could be made public.
Fault Description Post?
Hi, can you briefly describe or point me to the post that talks about the PSU issue relating to the the faulty model discussed above? Thanks in advance.

Afraid not, I got the information from an ASUS tech when on the phone about my own faulty PSU.
There are several other threads on faulty PSU's, but no one was listing model numbers until now
Type of fault
So I guess what happened to your PSU was pretty much does not charge the tablet (battery level keep draining rather than increase) even though everything plugged in correctly?
Did it work previously and just suddenly when dead on the charging? Or this is first try of charging and not working?
Also, do you have dock unit and trying the PSU on it too? Just try to see if it was the dang PSU or the plug connector or the tablet connector itself.

I disagree with your comment that the first post was perfectly clear and set out logically. It was very poorly punctuated, and if I read the first sentence literally, ending after the word tablet, I would conclude that he is returning the TF because of the OB-1LF. I was able to glean his actual meaning from his follow up posting.
bbilko would do future readers a favor if he could edit the original post, and clean it up, since that is the first thing they will read on the subject.
Agreed, if you read past the line breaks then you would come to the correct conclusion that I am returning the entire tablet.
I have however taken your point and amended the post to make things clearer.
I am afraid at the time I wrote it I was rather annoyed.

All right, it could have been clearer but it's not like it was cryptic.
He rang them >was told a certain model has a fault >he doesnt have that model >had to send whole lot back to be tested to make sure it wasnt anything else causing the problems, rather than just the charger on its own. =a logical progression.
Something that isnt logical is that I normally read threads backwards (newest posts first). Usually glean some handy info quicker that way. If everyone on these forums who started a post, added extra info from the rest of the thread (as time went on), to the original post, it would make things a lot easier to find/read up on, as you say for this post. But most the time it just doesnt happen unfortunately.
Anyways I'm still thankful he gave us some info, that no one else has reported on so far, in the first place.

[Q] S3 wont switch on, charge :/

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S3 that does not switch on, or charge. Full disclosure; I bought it second hand in full cognisance of this fact*, but I really thought it was a software glitch or something I could fix with a hard reset. The reason for this is the guy I bought it from swears blind it's not water-damaged, which I've verified by checking the moisture sensors. So, I tried a hardware reset (volume up+power button+home button) but nothing. So, does anyone know what it could be other than water-damage**?
*Yes, I'm aware it was stupid. But it was really cheap, and I have very poor impulse control. I'm like a cat, you can't dangle something like that in front of me and not expect me to pounce on it ;p
**Screen appears to be in perfect condition.
Take the battery out and look at the model number....im worried your the victim of a chinese dud!

Nope, it's got Samung logos and all that; it says the SSN is I9300GSMH, which as far as I'm aware is the real deal. I've also checked the IMEI, and it corresponds to a real SGS3. So what is wrong with it?

As previously discussed in another thread, the chinese fakes look the real deal, all branding, samsung logos, model numbers etc match up to actual s3 devices, but the hardware is fake 540x960 display, 512mb ram etc....seriously worth looking into buddy

Impossible to tell unless it switches on though.
I've compared it to the (apparently) real S3 in this video, and while everything seems to match up with mine, one thing is the microSD card slot and SIM tray have weird blue windows in them, which looks a bit suspicious. Did anyone else's phone arrive with these? It looks like they're replacements.
I don't want to sound too depressing but some of us have had our phones completely die for no reason after a few months. Mine's currently at the service centre and others who have had theirs back say that the circuit board was replaced. Mine didn't get wet, or dropped, it just stopped working.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
That *is* mildly depressing but if it comes to that I suppose all I can do is return it or sell it on as spares, try to get the money back :/ (all while hoping it *is* genuine)
(The circuit boards are really expensive to replace, also.)
Update: (like anyone's interested, but anyway) got my USB jig today, plugged it in following the method on this forum, but nothing. Not really surprised tbh.
Going to try a new battery next, but seriously doubt it'll come back to life at this stage. Thanks for the suggestions and comments anyway, and if any users have anything not covered already, just post it below. Thnx
Thought I'd update this again to report the lack of success of a battery switch....again, not really surprising.
I also need to reiterate the point that mine arrived with what looks like a replacement SIM tray/sdcard slot rig, such as those you see on eBay. I'm not sure whether to take this as suspicious or...what, and am now just ready to give up entirely on the phone. Any advice before I do this would be welcome
Do you mean those translucent blue stickers on the sim and micro sd slots? My phone came back from the service centre with these too (which definitely weren't there when I took it in)

[Q] Signal Problems. Caused by hardware problem?

Dear Forum members,
I know this is a very common problem/ question. But looking through the forum I was not able to sovle this problem myself.
So the problem is I have no reception neither in my flat nor at work. This makes my phone kind of useless.
I recently tried out several modems but could not achieve anything with that.
My gf has a I9100 as well with the same provider (O2, Germany). She has pretty good signal quality in our flat while my cell has none (even with exact same baseband phones next to each other).
So I can only guess that it is a hardware issue. What do you think?
Btw, outdoors of our building I have 100% signal H+ (I'm living kind of in the middle of Berlin).
Your help is very appreciated here. Cheers,
lennart
I have a I9100 with
CM 10.1

Kernel 3.0.15-CM-gddc9ba7

Seriously, this issue started when? It's just weird that you don't get any signal indoors, but your girl, with the same device as you, does.
If warranty isn't voided...I'd pay the store a visit.
Could there be a problem with the antenna? Would be worth the try to buy a new one?

Is your warranty voided? How long has it been since you got any signal at your place/work?
Did you change some part recently, like speaker/usb flex? Did you try to use the external antenna?
Don't even dream of messing with the antenna unless you're absolutely certain your warranty is no good (damage to the phone caused by normal use/misuse or warranty period expired).
If your warranty is good, use it.

Okay, full story: I bought the phone used 2 weeks ago from some guy. I tested it with him outside. Worked great Took it home and recognized that signal quality is bad. No warrenty at all. And I found that 1 of the 7 screws was missing. So I'm not the first who opened it I guess.
Maybe something was exchanged but I don't know. Think it would be of any good to exchange speaker/usb flex?
New ones are below 10€ so I could give it a try.
Thanks for your replies!

[Q] New XT910 GSM user, where to start?

Hi guys,
I just bought Motorola Razr XT910 GSM and i was looking for simple guide on rooting/installing custom ROMs but with no success.
Infos about my phone are:
System version:
672.180.41.XT910.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU
Baseband version:
U_04.10.00R
Build number:
6.7.2-180_SPU-19-TA-11.6
I was wondering what is the simplest way (step by step guide would be nice) to install leaked OTA 4.1.2 ?
Is that version stable with GSM patch?
Currently i have clean stock ICS 4.0.4 on it. No root no nothing.
Just to mention i'm linux user, if there is a way to root and install 4.1.2 from linux that would be good if not i'll find some windows machine to do that!
Thanks

Is anyone else facing this problem , has plagued me since my 2.3.6 days. And since your phone is new, thought I'd ask.
The screen picks up all sorts of mis-correct inputs when pugged into the AC mains, especially noticeable when texting in any app. This happends to a lesser extent when using the USB port. Had this phone for 6 months now. Am using the OG charger of course. Strange one may think but is this a general widespread problem ? This is the only problem holding me back from rooting and getting the JB ball rolling. BTW, had 2 razr's so I have two AC adaptors. Tried both.
If this is a digitizer problem as someone did indicate once somewhere, I'm regret ever having bought this phone. Have had to refrain from using it while charging. And if so, am going to push for a different device. Didn't buy a dysfunctional phone, for sure
Service Center means a LOT of downtime and I cannot even backup app data as I haven't root. Can anyone help me here?
Thanks !
PS :
Here's claims to back me up. If so, has anyone successfully replaced their product ? I wouldn't mind an HD given that I did pay full RRP.
for no reason my Razr will suddenly start going crazy. Random buttons will be pressed on the screen like someone is trying to hack into it (but I know they are not). Because of the random key presses, apps will open and close super fast. The only way to stop it is to power down and power it back up. Which after I do that, it's fine

Researched the issue months ago and learned there seems to be an issue with the digitizer (that's the piece of glass and components that identify your swipes). I thought it was only with certain earlier versions of the Droid, so am disappointed to hear you're having trouble with the Razr. Some folks have reported sending it back to Motorola, and $200 later, it's fixed. While early sufferers were Motorola users, I just read a post where someone is having the same issue with an HTC Eris...
I suggest returning your phone for a new one

I havent bought my phone new, its used one but in perfect condition!
Also i should have mention that i had same problem with Galaxy I7500 (first samsung galaxy device, not the tablet its phone) couple years ago and also with Galaxy S3 (my brothers phone). Same problems occured when using some chargers. Try swaping chareges until you find one that fits
Maybe i'm wrong but thats what helped me.

Could it be a grounds issue?

I hope not. Don't see why a 5.2V device needs grounding. And if anything .. the screen is glass.. It's capacitive in nature to a small extent. Built up charge should not do what it does. The USB off my MSI mobo and ASUS is filtered and grounded.. Even they do this to an admittedly lower frequency.
The Moto charger puts out a healthy 1A if I'm not mistaken. Not trading that in for some POS BB charger- It's 800mAh the one lying around at a lower 5V rating. That's going to mess things up in the long run-- higher voltage and amperage charging is faster and gets to the full capacity of the battery- the voltage has a say when it comes to lithium batteries.
Anyone here get a replacement from Moto if they had the same issue? Does you think its worth a try?
Thanks for the replies:good:
I had a Milestone (a GSM variant of the Droid) and it had the very same issue. However, it had a metal frame - upon touching it the issue was instantly alleviated.
Sent using a touch screen
Napisane na ekranie dotykowym
So this works out to an inherent flaw with this screen? I had a SAMOLED on my OG Wave and it never messed up {ever} must have been the metal body. Nevertheless, The razr is FUBAR when charging. Had an S2 for a while, never cropped up despite having a similar screen panel. Think I should just file a complaint and get the ball rolling here? Though service (Moto) is terrible in my country, and I don't think they've even launched the Razr HD here. I'd rather pick it over the S3.
WIshful thinking!

[Q] Poor cellular signal

Hey, everyone.
My friend and I unlocked his Note and he switched to T-Mobile. We played around with flashing different radios and ended up with one that gets decent signal, but nothing that's satisfactory. Are there other radios that work on this phone? Can it be any T-Mobile radio?

well I am definitely no kind of master of everything here. I think usually, I may bring up something somebody didn't think of and it will spark the correct answer from somebody else. but I think many times I am on the right path.
What is the difference between modems and radios?

The difference is that one is spelled "modem", and the other is spelled "radio". And I think you already knew that captain

Charging flex cable
Hello, I purchased a i717 off eBay and my luck i figured out after I got it and had no cell signal accept in a few real good hot spots. I figured out the seller replaced the charging port flex cable... I read that the part numbers matter a lot on this phone andhe don't have the original now.... I am trying to get this figured out it as on the case v0.3 so I'm guessing the one I needed is a rev 3.0 and I can't find it anywhere or a rev 2.0 for that matter... So does anyone have any idea how to tell which one i need and do they actually say rev 2, or just the second numbers are different but it says rev1 in the top line.....I've checked the antenna cable and it charges fine..... Please help........:crying: I sold my iPhone 5 and found this amazing phone that I can't use :crying:

Figures I get 1 reply on my first post and its someone just out to make someone feal bad...have you ever had this issue? I joined this forum looking for help not to be made fun of thanks. if I was unclear I'm sorry let me clarify....
There are 2 sets of numbers on the charging port flex cable.... I find a bunch of rev 1.0 cables with a few having different numbers for the second set of numbers on the cable. I read there are 3 revisions of this cable rev 1.0 rev 2.0 and rev 3.0.... So how can you tell which rev it is will it say rev 2 or 3 in the first set of numbers or is the second number how you tell?
So in short 1. How can you tell which rev the cable is?
2. How can you tell which rev the phone should have if you don't have the original part?
3. Where can you buy th part you need if it's rev 2 or rev 3 ?
If in doubt, buy the latest revision. It should be backwards compatible. To know for sure, contact a samsung service center and ask them.
