Power supply model with Known Fault - Eee Pad Transformer Accessories

I have just been on the phone with an ASUS support Tech, and he has told me that one model of PSU has a known fault.
The model number is : 0B-LF.
Unfortunately my PSU is 0B-1LF, and as it does NOT have a known fault, it looks like I am going to be returning the whole tablet.
I had the option to return only the PSU, but if it turned out to be a tablet fault I would then be liable for any shipping costs for the second RMA.
As I have a few problems with case creek and speaker popping I will be returning the whole thing.
No Transformer for 7-10 days, and then all the hassle of reinstalling..
What a pain.
If you have the Charger with model number above,I Suggest you call ASUS asap.
You can get a cheaper call to the tech support by calling 01442202700 in the UK, and then requesting a transfer in the menus (saynoto0870.com ftw).

Mine is OB-1LF, how is that the same as OB-LF and whats faulty about it? My TF isn't faulty, would they just replace the power supply

0B-LF has a KNOWN to asus fault and will probably just be swapped out (i have no confirmation of this)
0B-1LF dosen't have a known fault, so if you have no problem then no need to get it replaced.

Mine says 0B-1LF too, I bought my TF-101 yesterday brand new. I would suggest the OB-1LF is the new revision.

Thanks, I read what you said wrong I thought you were listing your model as equal to the faulty model, thanks for the info.

+1 on the confusing OP.
it seems like what you're saying is,
1) your tf has problems
2) a certain model# is know to asus to having problem
3) unforutately, you have a diff model #
4) therefore you gotta send yours back.
statements 1 and 4 doesn't seem to have anything to do with 2 and 3. it's quite confusing.

Perfectly clear and set out logically in first post. Don't see why people are having a hard time understanding it tbh. I would imagine that there aren't that many 0B-LF chargers circulating around. Usually anything to do with power adapter faults on a large-ish scale and it's an automatic recall required. The writing is ridiculously small on it though. Doesnt help that it has multiple languages on it either.

Apologies, I agree it wasn't 100% clear!
I say it is unfortunate that my charger isn't on the known fault list, because that means they won't just send me a new one, Instead I have to send back my entire TF so they can do the same fault finding I have already done.
I mainly opened this thread so that the faulty model number could be made public.

Fault Description Post?
Hi, can you briefly describe or point me to the post that talks about the PSU issue relating to the the faulty model discussed above? Thanks in advance.

Afraid not, I got the information from an ASUS tech when on the phone about my own faulty PSU.
There are several other threads on faulty PSU's, but no one was listing model numbers until now

Type of fault
So I guess what happened to your PSU was pretty much does not charge the tablet (battery level keep draining rather than increase) even though everything plugged in correctly?
Did it work previously and just suddenly when dead on the charging? Or this is first try of charging and not working?
Also, do you have dock unit and trying the PSU on it too? Just try to see if it was the dang PSU or the plug connector or the tablet connector itself.

I disagree with your comment that the first post was perfectly clear and set out logically. It was very poorly punctuated, and if I read the first sentence literally, ending after the word tablet, I would conclude that he is returning the TF because of the OB-1LF. I was able to glean his actual meaning from his follow up posting.
bbilko would do future readers a favor if he could edit the original post, and clean it up, since that is the first thing they will read on the subject.

Agreed, if you read past the line breaks then you would come to the correct conclusion that I am returning the entire tablet.
I have however taken your point and amended the post to make things clearer.
I am afraid at the time I wrote it I was rather annoyed.

All right, it could have been clearer but it's not like it was cryptic.
He rang them >was told a certain model has a fault >he doesnt have that model >had to send whole lot back to be tested to make sure it wasnt anything else causing the problems, rather than just the charger on its own. =a logical progression.
Something that isnt logical is that I normally read threads backwards (newest posts first). Usually glean some handy info quicker that way. If everyone on these forums who started a post, added extra info from the rest of the thread (as time went on), to the original post, it would make things a lot easier to find/read up on, as you say for this post. But most the time it just doesnt happen unfortunately.
Anyways I'm still thankful he gave us some info, that no one else has reported on so far, in the first place.

TF-201 WIFI/GPS Compared Against Tf-700

there is no link..this was what I was told
-well for starters, an inside source, in Asus, tells me the wifi/BT issues are due to old Firmware on board. Issues supposed to be fixed on newer firmware. This is affecting a very small group out of very large shipments. How this occurred is being investigated and will promise to fix or replace with latest hardware/firmware revision.
-Next Rumors of TF-201 being discontinued is false
-new model with HD screen won't be released for at least another 4-5 months minimum. This is the TF 700. it still primarily uses metal backing except for thin strip of plastic up top
-with that said, this person tested his personal TF-201 model against the new model, TF 700 and there was no improvements or better results in Wifi or GPS in the test area. This was based on his personal assessment of it. he wasn't able to test at longer distances though. This in no way was some very intense detailed test. More of a quick comparison. He said his Prime doesn't suffer from issues experienced by some users here. This means both devices worked good and properly as they were supposed to. So two devices both working as they should will produce similar results. This means both devices performed good enough to the person testing it.
-As far as any type of exchange for a newer model ... there is no word or talk of that. Instead they are working to fix this within the Prime itself. If the fix found doesn't meet up to your satisfaction then return it. if out of range of return window, then they will work with the retailer
Well there you have it. All facts I've learned. I made sure to ask the right type of questions when the chance came my way. For all the people trying to put off current Prime for newer model thinkn it will perform better on wifi and GPS, THINK AGAIN...lol. Once primes that have issues get worked out, it will perform the same, as far as wifi, and GPS to newer model. The plastic strip up top doesn't really help at all because majority of backing is still metal, IMO. If prime is up to date with latest firmware, then there's no difference between newer model. As both models will work as they were intended to.
hope this finally clears up alot of false rumours floating around these forums lately.
For the Trollers and non believers, this is not a debate. Just releasing some info found out that may clear some rumors....MAIN ONE BEING THAT THE CURRENT PRIME. TF-201 will not be discontinued and will still be supported for the long haul.
If you have problem then keep it moving! TROLLING WONT WORK OVA HEAAAAA! lol
The plot thickens!
so what you are trying to tell me is that....
there's a horse working for asus that has a tf700 in possession?!?!?
AND THAT IT CAN SPEAK?!!?

So would you say this is the reason some primes work with ICS and others dont?
I think multiple occasions I have said that it was S/W not H/W. Everyone then puts it back in my face by saying its the back cover and Asus new about these issues and released the tablets anyways. Now if this source is correct, then I get to say the biggest I told ya so.
W ell, i dont know those journos who tested the tf700 (CES or you tube) didnt test the gps with wifi off. Even with lock, precision is like 60-200ft indoors an d forget about when moving fast in a train (do plan your trip in advnce or rent a car with gps...

The famous Mr. ED!
$10 says the TF700 he tested is just a prototype. Maybe they just slapped a new screen and a piece of electric tape on the TF201 in time for CES :X
If this is all true (and I desperately hope that it is), then I think I prefer the current prime to the TF700. IMHO the aesthetics of the spun metal back outweigh any alleged wifi/gps improvement and 1080 res at the cost of an ugly anodized whatever back panel.
TF201 FTW?

The GPS is a back issue the firmware is most likely whats causing issues like locking up and lines on the screen.

although it wasnt directly stated, this would make perfect sense though. Obviously some older primes that had old stuff on it wasn't supposed to ship out because majority of devices have newer firmware on it. So if Asus is sending out ICS updates made for newer firmware and people with older ones is receiving it also, it would cause issues. Because the software is not meshing well with the older hardware or something to that sort.
good point to bring up. that issue needs to be addressed also.

Well i dont want to Bragg but this is specifically what i already said was probably the reason in the iCS lockup thread
so now to see if they can get the firmware fixed before the TF700 comes out. any takers on bets?
Asus has a good reputation for putting out updates, but no one said this update is an easy one to patch in, if it is in fact just a firmware problem. hopefully it will come soon though.

As seen the newer model with strip up top doesn't improve wifi and GPS all vs. the testers personal Prime. that being said his Prime worked fine and didn't have issues some users here experiencing. So it still can't be said the metal back is main cause of issue. The fact that the newer model didn't show better results then the guys personal Prime(which works perfectly) says alot.

From your post, I don't know the specifics of the test or what "longer distances" even means...was he using some enhanced signal meter, or the bars on the tablet, or an app to gauge reception? You do know that wireless reception falls off on a decibel scale as you move further away from source, right? And that this may serve to keep the tablets "neck and neck" in an environment close to the source?
All in all, this gives me about as much reason to declare the 700 the equivalent of a Prime in terms of radio reception as it does to declare the Prime hopelessly outclassed...certainly not enough info from your post for a declarative of the former.

wrong forum..
I have a hard time believing this for two reasons:
1) Why would Asus not fox the terribly awful GPS and lackluster WiFi in their next model?
2) Why would they add that ugly plastic strip on the top if it wasn't to improve the wireless signals?
These things just don't make any sense.

Forgive me, I'm a little slow. But how can this in any way be construed as "good news?" By their own admission, Asus has confirmed the wireless issues with the Prime. Asus Taiwan also said that the new "non full metal back" tablet will resolve those issues. So if the TF700 performs the same as the Prime it seems that's a bad thing and a (second) fail on Asus' part. I guess in some abstract way it's good for current Prime owners but the impact on Asus as a company by releasing two devices with wireless issues back-to-back would be extremely negative. And why would they even bother going to the expense of redesigning the TF700's back cover and getting it recertified with the FCC if they were: A) happy with the current performance of the Prime, and B) didn't think it would correct an issue they've already acknowledged?

Prime/new prime driving me nuts-dmclient

I'm gonna go crazy here, I can't even begin to explain how much lack of respect I have for this asus organization. So I got my new prime after a month of my old one being rma'ed. That was painful enough, but now I unbox my new C3 model and it comes with Nothing. No charger accessories warranty card etc.
Anyways that's not even my real issue. I power it up after charging it only to find out these new models are on .14?? Seriously??! So now I have the same damn Dmclient force close error as I did my FIRST prime originally. So I basically can't do OTA worth sh$t.
Really? This can't be happening
Oh and for the record I've already tried clearing the cache and data of dmclient
why did you get your first prime RMA'd?
I haven't heard a single person on here have a success story of returning their Prime to ASUS for RMA. Most seem to report them getting a TFP in worse condition than their first.

Kind of sounds like maybe you got a returned unit... Or maybe I'm confused: was the C3 directly from ASUS or one you bought at retail? If it was a replacement for your RMA'd unit, maybe they assumed you kept the power adapter and cable when you sent your other one in?
Just trying to understand what happened here...

that's not usually always the case with replacements.
I know personally doing laser printer return exchanges with Lexmark that they don't include any of the peripheral components. They instruct you to send just the laser printer and to remove the paper, power cables, toner, photoconductor kit, and trays.
ASUS probably operates in the same fashion.
I know Best Buy also will only warranty exchange the parts you bring in and will open your replacement and take out the parts you didn't provide for the return exchange.

Why?
If they ask you to send in just the tablet then all you should get back is a repaired/replacement tablet!
Or are you saying they should give you a whole new set of peripherals every time an item is replaced?

I know this is besides the point that they forgot to return things, but why did you send in the cleaning cloth? Were there not enough microfibers or something?
Dude go to Walmart and pickup the microfiber cloth in the electronics section sold from GE. It's like 5x the size of the cloth that comes with the Prime, it's thicker and it comes with liquid foam spray for only $9.99. You'll forget about that miniscule old cloth in no time.

[Q] S3 wont switch on, charge :/

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S3 that does not switch on, or charge. Full disclosure; I bought it second hand in full cognisance of this fact*, but I really thought it was a software glitch or something I could fix with a hard reset. The reason for this is the guy I bought it from swears blind it's not water-damaged, which I've verified by checking the moisture sensors. So, I tried a hardware reset (volume up+power button+home button) but nothing. So, does anyone know what it could be other than water-damage**?
*Yes, I'm aware it was stupid. But it was really cheap, and I have very poor impulse control. I'm like a cat, you can't dangle something like that in front of me and not expect me to pounce on it ;p
**Screen appears to be in perfect condition.

Impossible to tell unless it switches on though.
I've compared it to the (apparently) real S3 in this video, and while everything seems to match up with mine, one thing is the microSD card slot and SIM tray have weird blue windows in them, which looks a bit suspicious. Did anyone else's phone arrive with these? It looks like they're replacements.
I don't want to sound too depressing but some of us have had our phones completely die for no reason after a few months. Mine's currently at the service centre and others who have had theirs back say that the circuit board was replaced. Mine didn't get wet, or dropped, it just stopped working.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
That *is* mildly depressing but if it comes to that I suppose all I can do is return it or sell it on as spares, try to get the money back :/ (all while hoping it *is* genuine)
(The circuit boards are really expensive to replace, also.)
Update: (like anyone's interested, but anyway) got my USB jig today, plugged it in following the method on this forum, but nothing. Not really surprised tbh.
Going to try a new battery next, but seriously doubt it'll come back to life at this stage. Thanks for the suggestions and comments anyway, and if any users have anything not covered already, just post it below. Thnx
Thought I'd update this again to report the lack of success of a battery switch....again, not really surprising.
I also need to reiterate the point that mine arrived with what looks like a replacement SIM tray/sdcard slot rig, such as those you see on eBay. I'm not sure whether to take this as suspicious or...what, and am now just ready to give up entirely on the phone. Any advice before I do this would be welcome

I'm thinking of replacing the USB flex cable, but I've read many posts on here about people having signal problems after installing theirs - and I see there's various different revisions being sold on ebay (revision 1.3, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 etc etc)
I've seen some people saying that even installing a new usb flex cable that has exactly the same revision number printed on it, gave them issues.
Can anybody please help shed some light on this for me?? Is there a 'best' revision, and if not, how do I know which I should buy? I really don't want to buy one, install it, and have problems.
Thank you so much..
I got the 2.2 version as that was the same as my phone originally had.

So that worked fine, and you didn't have any signal problems?
I'd really rather not open my phone just to see what revision number it has inside it.
You should buy the ones that people said have worked. Some of the posts have sellers name from eBay.

Thanks, but surely there's a reason for the various revision numbers? How do I know which to use? I would normally assume that later revision is better, but this doesn't seem to be the case...?

hey ma8, u have two options.
1) open the phone and see which version u have and go accordingly.
2) If ur reluctant with the above then go with what other users have already done and wrk'ng fine for them

Thank you. I guess 1) is the best option, it's just that I've read posts from other people experiencing issues with the signal becoming weak, even after replacing the board with exactly the same revision.
Thats not right pal.If you have read several threads(like Ive done),youll see people have bought the same revision as they have and its still faulty/doesnt work.
Some have bought blue boards instead of green and used different revision numbers.
Some sellers sell ones that work, and others dont.
The most common thing is this:
Peoples phone doesnt charge,so they buy new board and have signal problem. They put old board back in and signal back to normal....but no charging obviously.

Yes, exactly. So I want to know why people still experience problems even when they use exactly the same revision number. Obviously I don't want any issues, so I want to buy the right version.
Can nobody help shed light on this???
Dont know.Maybe suppliers are selling samsungs reject parts.

Have you tried charging the phone with the regular micro USB port charging and leave it for some time. Also try pushing the red reset button underneath the right flaps beside the Sim tray.

Yes, lets clear some stuff up, Ive seen too many xperia's killed with cheap connectors turned the other way to count... Are you really sure you didn't connect it incorrectly?
red flashing LED is a common symptom of killing the charging

why are you trying to keep coming up with something crap like that ? you dont even worth a reply....i guess you didnt even fully read my original post BUT lets make life easier :
No it was always used as it should be it was working fine since i had it and yes it was ok when i turned it OFF and never came back on suddenly
Does it get recognized by your pc in fastest mode or flashmode? If not then according to what I've been reading about other xperia devices it's time you send it in to the service center. They've termed it the LED light of death.

You are correct, not worth my time.
I guess over 1000 thankyous and 2 and a half K posts means jack when it comes to XDA, I'll remember that next time I suggest something that I've seen happen

So I should be happy for you to ask me the most blond question about the charger cos u got a lot of thank you? Great…..
Next time ask it simply : did work without any issues before ? are you new to this smartphone stuff ? right away you can determine if you talk to a blond or an older person who is into changing the roms on 99% of his/her phones like clothes. This is the 2nd phone I never touched or rooted as I didn’t need to.
So to finish this off topic thanks for your reply !
And bushako :
Thanks will have a talk with sony tomorrow morning. Im even ok to sell it as for parts on ebay but if someone can retrieve it my data is still on it in offline mode till he/she connects to the net with it :/
What is wrong with you?

Your responses are totally uncalled for and completely disproportionate. Actually they're downright offensive. "Blond" - really?

Hi,
I have the same issue with my Z Ultra c6833, just the red led light when connected to the charger and pc. I dont get any responses to the buttons or any vibration when pressed. Before it died, It still powered on showing me the time and how much battery it has, around 92%. So decided to connect my magnetic charging cable to charge and waiting for the green led light meaning it's charging, but never got the green light and the Ultra never powered up again. Its on the official kitkat rom, not rooted and not a scratch, well babied. Tried charging it over night and the whole day, still just the red led light I get and computer doesn't even recognize it when it's plugged in.
Can I send it for warranty here in canada even though it's the c6833 model? Or can I send it to any service center to have it fix? And how much do you guyz think it will cause me to have it fix?
Thanks in advance for future replies.

EDIT: Information given to me below by the online Sony Rep was incorrect. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56814703&postcount=17 for correct info.
Just talked to a Sony rep as I'm interested in buying this phone from the US and wanted to know about warranty etc. Your covered by 1 year manufacturer's but you have to send it to the centre with country of origin. I'm not sure if that means the country you bought it from (which was what I was asking because I wanted to buy it from the States) or the intended region of the phone. If your phone is under warranty (i.e. within a year of purchase) you should be able to get it fixed but you will have to mail it out of the country. If out of warranty I'm not sure -- may be able to get it fixed here.

1st when you cant see someone (personal conversations versus typing)and the first ish help is if i used the charger the right way anyone would go nuts....In the first post i detailed as much as possible to make sure i wont get the "common" resolution options hence they were all tried and failed.
2nd yes it is great but that means he can read too just like you if you read it from the beginning. I would of been lucky if i get the right attitude from the other end too.
3rd i didnt say anyone owe me help. i searched, read, and asked when all failed. in my spare time i run non-profit help and information sites +teaching beginners for free so don't need lessons how to use my spare time. People like you who doesnt read ruin communities to be fair. Read first ask 2nd is what i do and did in the past almost 20 years since i had my 386. so go and read it again and troll somewhere else with you logic.
Thx

Hi
I been to about 50 shops nobody were able to fix it nore there was any solution online anywhere The best you can try is to sell it on eBay they will bid it over £100 easily if your screen is in mint condition.

Just to follow up. I bought a device on ebay that stated the location as Memphis. The fedex shipment is actually coming from Singapore.
I chatted with an online rep and further called Sony Canada and they both confirmed that a device under 1 year manufacturer's warranty CAN be given to a Sony Canada Service Centre. The only caveat is that they cannot give a turnaround time (it's usually 2 weeks or something) as they say they may need to get parts from abroad.
I'm not sure how much that would apply for a C6833 as it's more or less the same as the C6806.
But there you have it.
Thanks for the reply Unidentifier
When I called Sony Canada on Nov 9th, they verified my c6833 still under warranty by checking the IMEI number. They emailed me the RMA number and shipping label for Purolator ( Shipping out and back is free, so I didn't spend a penny ) Service Center here in my area in Toronto is in Mississauga.
The rep told me that it will take a little longer than the standard 2 weeks to get it back because the device is an Asian/European version, because there's chances they might order the parts from it's place of origin.
But to my surprise, after they received my c6833 on Nov 12th I got a notice form Purolator last Nov 18th that my device came back from the service center already. So picked it up at the depot, at first I was so worried because I'm thinking maybe they didn't fix it cause it came back to quickly. After inspecting the device and the documents that came back with it, found out that they replaced it with a new Bell c6806 on Kitkat v. 14.4.a.0.108 but unlock, it works with Koodo and Rogers sim.
So all is well now, just not sure if I lost something because they gave me a c6806 instead of my previous c6833.
My only question now is how to prevent this from happening again? My feeling is that the magnetic charging cable is the reason why my device died, maybe that's the reason why Sony never made an official magnetic charging cable. Because there's always high chances you'll attach it in the wrong way. Unlike with the charging dock, it won't go in and connect itself unless it's putted in the right way.
Overall warranty experience with Sony is awesome! ?

About the question : sent the unit to Sony and they asked for £12 to find out it is dead. When i received it back went to another mobile repair shop just incase and they shown me that whatever they did they actually fried the mobo and cracked it too in the "diagnostics" process. So i took the screen out and sold it on eBay to get back at least some money after all the months of searching reading arguing waitingFORsony etc.
