Android Newbie Questions - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I am completely new on the Android scene and just got my new Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300.
Now my question is, what is the best custom ROM for my phone, because there are tons out there but I don't know which to choose.
Is there a way to get the paid apps from the google play store for free when I have custom ROM, because I've heard somewhere that you can download paid apps and games for the store for free, don't know if that's true.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section btw.
Greetings from a Android Newbie

The single most annoying question. There is no such thing as a "best ROM". What's best for you might not be for others, so pick one you like the look of and try it.

[q] [req] note .apk

im not sure if this is the right place to post this but i did a search first and came up with nothing... Im looking to see if there is a way to pull the note taking app/apk thats on the galaxy S phones and install it on another phone (my nexus) if anyone could help me out with this or point me in the right direction to get it, it would be greatly appreciated
Moved to Q&A
anyone have any input?
One reason (guess) why not many have input in this is it could also be done with paid apps from the market.

Cant download Pac Man in Samsung apps?...

Can someone please put the PacMan .apk here? It is showing that it is free on Samsung Apps but it wont let me download it. It says that it is not optimized for my device???
Why is it there then?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Are you checking Samsung Apps from PC or straight from your phone ? If you check from PC you need to select the phone type or else it will show you all available apps for all types of Samsung phones. Never saw Pac Man in my Samsung apps.

I am checking from my phone. It is listed in the free apps but I get an error when I try and download it... :-(

I get the same error. It's not just for Pac Man either though, it's all apps published by Electronic Arts which gives the same error: The Sims 3, Need for Speed Shift HD, and Tetris HD. Basically, all the ones that are trials that lets you play once for 4 minutes.
Might be a CSC thing? Mine is an Australian Optus branded SGS2.
EDIT:
Actual error: "Unable to download. Application not optimised for device(8002)."

Yup... Thats the same error I am getting... That sucks...

Does ANYONE here have the .apk available for the "FREE" version of PacMan that is on "Samsung Apps"? I am not asking for a pirated version or anything, just the free app advertised on Samsung apps...
Anyone at all?
What's wrong with just getting one of the many versions of PacMan available on the Market?

Number 1 - Why pay for it when it is being offered free?
Number 2 - Why get a version of Pac Man that is a "clone" when yo ucan get the "real" version?

It's not free. You get 4 minutes of play and then you have to buy it!
The Namco version is available on the market. Yes, you have to pay for that as well, but it's not a clone.
Incidentally, it's £1.86.
Ok so... I have just gone back into Samsung Apps and I am now seeing (not sure if it was there before) that PacMan is listed as being compatible with Donut v1.6 of Android. Does that mean it is ONLY compatible with Donut?
That is really stupid considering that Samsung Apps is open to ALL versions of the OS and if this is the case then why dont they just not list these apps on a phone / OS version running Gingerbread or up?
STUPID!!!

ok guys I am on O2 uk and im having the same problem with latest f3 fw,
I tried to investigate the problem and i read some where that samsung made 2 versions of this phone one with NVIDIA tegra 2 and the other with Exynos.
People claimed that those games work on Tegra rather than sammy cpu.
However these r not confirmed news so please check it

Well I can't quote you an official statement that something that someone made up doesn't exist, if that's what you want
It's just quite clearly "another one of those stories" like the ROM counter counter, that counts how many times you've reset the ROM counter. I mean, come on! Next we'll be being told that Harry Potter is based on a true story!
Wait... what? Harry Potter isn't based on true events? That's just preposterous.
I c, so No answer & Mr.Potter is a fictional story
How dare u
Peace

I am yet to root my phone because I was wondering is there was any particular ROM's aimed at heavy gaming?
I use a PlayStation emulator monstly to run games such as FF7, FF9 and a few others but I like a few android games aswell.
Dont get me wrong there isnt anything wrong but curiosity has got me wondering if it could be better lol
I have a Samsung Galaxy S III GT-I9300 (T-mobile)
Android Version: 4.1.2
(If there is anything else you want to know just say )
Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for your replys

Unfortunately this will be classed as a "Best ROM" thread and because of the subjective nature of the question, is against the rules.
All you can do is test them all and see how you get on

All kinds of Best Rom/Kernel/etc threads are unwelcome, read, research and make your own mind up, as the question is very subjective.

Ok thanks. What about if I re-worded like ''Is there any ROM's out there more aimed at gaming''?
Or is still a case of having to try them all out?

You'll need to try them out yourself to decide

Well with an attitude like that, nobody will be willing to help you. Maybe next time in your original post, tell us where you have already searched. Good luck

What attitude? You just suggested me the most obvious source for edge apps, it's pretty obvious that I have already looked there, that's why I ask for another repo, store or something.

Is it obvious that you have looked there already? Because in your OP you do not mention where you have looked? For some people they might not know to look there. Maybe next time change your post to
"Is there any website, database or something where I could find some new edge apps to install? I have checked galaxy apps but would like something else"
Just an idea
