Notification Bar and Camera Updates - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey
I did an update from Settings - About - Software Update
to newest Jelly Bean 4.1.4.
And after that it became a bit annoying. It freezes for few seconds before exiting camera; sometimes even gives me error CAMERA FAILURE
+ the received email/sms are FULLY shown in notifications, which i want to move back, as it was (as a small preview of first few words of email/sms)
so is there a possible way of rolling it back, to Android 4.0.4. the one i had before. that was originally installed on it, WITHOUT rooting the phone? (cuz it will kill the guaranty from the seller)

is 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 =.=

You have a bad download...and flash ...
Log into samfirmware.com and search your device....
I believe the tools menu will get you started on a clean download.
You can download a camera app from the market and see if it is the camera or the rom.

Good idea ranger ...it could be a device issue ..but with all the kies failures running around ...I went there first ...g
Try going to manage apps, camera, clear data and see if that clears it up.
My camera sometimes works
SOmetimes it will work for a span of 10 seconds. Sometimes 10 minutes it will work fine. Then all other times, If i try and load my camera it freezes. Warranty is up and still have to use phone for another year. Anyone know a fix.
Rom- Stock JellyBean flashed via kies
Recovery- Stock
-Have been rooted and ran custom roms.
Thanks for any help guys.
no luck...
Since CM10.1, I never had a good luck with camera. Now I am using CM11 and camera sort of work but no video cam.
(Not to mention, random reboots)
Any workarounds, smart guys?
Should I go back to CM10.0 or stock?

4.1.2 Update Help

Hi XDA,
Am currently running rooted, jellybean stock 4.1.1 & would like to upgrade to 4.1.2. However I can't do it through OTA or Kies as my device status is 'modified' I've tried the work around of removing the SD card but no joy so am going to have to use the Odin method.
My question is if I upgrade to 4.1.2 will I keep all my settings on the OS and system apps as I've spent a lot of time getting things just as I want them.
One final question; if I go to 4.1.2 will I have to deal with the whole exclamation mark thing as I'm rooted or does that just apply to custom roms?

Your apps and files wont be affected but you will have to root again.

Confrim on stock 4.2 update fixes
Good to hear the 4.2 update is working fine for you. Congratulations !!!
Is all the mentioned fixes working fine?
Is the GPS fixes your current location immediately or in reasonable time?
Flipboard application working after update?
No restart issues after upgrade right?
Is the display screen looks perfect, without any additional lines or bars?
Is your proximity sensor working fine (after taking off ur phone from near to ear during the call, does the display comes on immediately?)?
How long you are using your phone after update?
Is the OTA feature available after update?
Please update us. Many of us are eager to go for the update.
Thanks,
Joe

[Q] Latest thread regarding flashing custom ROMs on Canvas HD

Hello All,
I just started to utilize the full potential of the Android community.
I wanted to start by flashing my Micromax Canvas HD A116 with the JB 4.2.1 update.
I proceeded to flash it, using the flashing tutorial on the xda forum itself.
I successfully managed to flash my phone, but after flashing on 4.2.1 update, I noticed the following problem.
Problem - First, the 4.2.1 JB update, did not have the camera app in the app drawer and if somehow the camera app is opened, I could only use the front camera of the phone, which was very irritating.
Then I proceeded to root my device, and then install the 4.1.2 custom rom from xda itself. Since I hadnt made any backup on the stock rom.
Then I could manage to find the same problem on every 4.2.1 updated custom ROM.
And I mean, every custom ROM on the xda forum.
Is there any solution to this ? No rear camera on every update.
Also, suddenly, this 4.1.2 update is also becoming crummy. Am having the WiFi problem, where the wifi just stucks on 'Obtaining IP Address' and does not connect at all.
Please HELPP !!!!! :crying:

Thats the first ROM that I flashed my phone with
Flashed it with 4.2.1 official updates, in the beginning.
Then, since I could not fix the camera, I had to root to flash the stock 4.1.2 ROM on my phone.
Thats when I tried the other 4.2.1 JB ROMs.

i can confirm that it is problem with your device's camera (hardware). It has nothing to do with ROM.
Same thing here no camera after 4.2.1 update so reverted back to 4.1.2 and tried re downloading the file but same problem exist....and i got news from service center that 4.2.1 has been scrapped from there ftp site due to some problem and told me that within 15 days there will be new update so better wait for a new version of 4.1.2 from sc.....

Yes please go ahead. Check the link i shared earlier. It has a new firmware v4.
I hope your camera problem might get resolved if your camera hardware is new.
By the way when you purchased this?

Current firmware not supported to update through kies

Ive heard recently that sgs3 is soon to be receiving the 4.3 update, skipping 4.2.2 all together. 2 questions.
1. Apparently my current firmware isn't supported to update via kies, meaning I can't check for updates via kies. Was running cm10.1 nightlys then decided to re flash stock back onto the device. So im running official 4.1 touchwiz with stock kernel.
And 2. Will this update be available over the air since kies doesn't want to work? I mean it should right? I am on stock now so I don't see why not? Thanks guys all help appreciated

did you follow the guide to get back to stock conditions? including non-modifed status etc.? usually KIES should even work with root, just removes root after the update though.
I guess the easiest, and maybe fastest bet would be to just download the update once on sammobile or here on xda and flash via Odin.
