Recently my s3 quit receiving text messages. took it to the att store and it started receiving texts so I thought it was good, well i then find out i was only receiving some texts. along with that i was not able to get any mms texts. put my sim into an my brothers iphone mms messages worked. called att, they say it must be a hardware issue and they sent me a new phone since mine was still under warranty.
So what is the best way to "copy" my phone to the new one? I dont want to simply copy my apps i would like to transfer everything, settings numbers, logs, everything I have setup on this phone for the last 6 months. I was thinking about rooting and doing a nandroid (done that before with my g1 and xperia s10). but since im sending it in if they find it rooted that voids the warranty right?
let me know what you guys think, and thanks.

You could always just reset counter, and flash stock rom which includes removing root.

Yes nandroid. Keep it on external sdcard.
And you will need to install stock firmware and unroot your device. Search on Google for unroot i9300 and you will get a xda forum topic that has video tutorial for how to unroot and reset binary counter as well as device state. You will need to reset all three and u r good to go.
Sent from my Galaxy S3
Here is the tutorial for unrooting the device and reclaim wrantee.

[solved!]
hey guys.
something weird happend on my athena. all of a sudden, the messaging service stopped working. "messaging" wont open. even the sms feature of spbdiary wont load. i cant receive sms. i simply cant send/receive sms. even if i use different applications for sending sms. i dont do rom upgrades. and i havent installed/configured anything today.
anybody knows what i should do first? im hoping there might be a workaround other than a hardreset. i already did softresets a couple of times.

Try flashing Mitchy's rom.
the thing is, after reading all through the horror stories here at the forum, concerning flashing roms, im still hesitant to do it myself.
unless maybe you can guide me through all the way tootalk?
i have x7501 bought from the states. also, in a few words, what are the best things that mitchys rom have?
im surprised nobody else had experienced this problem before.
ciao!
if you installed any of those "lost and found" tools, then that's most likely the problem
since i had exactly your problem, until i removed those programs.
those programs might be good,
but unfortunately, it takes your SMS hostage, and wont release it.
making your SMS useless.
so i opted to have SMS, and well too bad if the phone gets lost, then it's lost.
yay! time to buy a new one the perfect excuse
hey allgamer,
what do you mean by "lost and found" tool? you mean like those security apps that sends messages to the owner just in case the phone got stolen? i have two of those installed, but i installed them a couple of months ago, and i never had any problems concerning them.
i'm now researching on how to flash my rom with mitchy.

Sorry for the delay dude. Shoot me a PM with your yahoo or AIM/AOL id and I can walk you through the steps to flashing with his ROM. To be honest, it's way faster and better than any factory ROM. I'm at the point now where If I don't even want to touch any PDA's with factory ROM's anymore lol.... I suggest you read up on how to CID unlock the phone first before you anything else.
messaging comes back if i remove memorycard
the messaging service works whenever i remove the memorycard, so i'm beginning to think that there might be an app that's messing around with the system.
another problem though, after i put back the memory card, the system created a "memory card" folder on the root file system. and the real memorycard now is called "memorycard2". the inbox folder has been created inside "memory card" folder.
anyway, i'm trying to muster up my courage and am going to accept tootalk's generous offer of helping me up with my very first rom flashing.
UPDATED:
i renamed the folder "memory card" which the system created, to "memory card err" and then rebooted. the messaging service is now back to normal.
but i'll still check out on the flashing.
ciao!
Since upgrading the firmware to 2.1 (rooted). Now, I can't seem to make backup's of my SMS messages, call logs or anything other than the contact list.
So... Does anyone know how I would be able to do this? Perhaps suggest a free application?
Reason: I need to send my handset back, it's refusing to charge! My service provider sent me an replacement battery recently and it's not working, so now they're suggesting I return the handset for replacement.
Have you tried the new version of Backup & Restore here?
You could also try Mobile Backup II
Try Myphoneexplorer. It's the best application for this matter.

Indeed. The guy who wrote that application has been working with SE phones for years. Myphoneexplorer really helps one to transfer, or at the worst, backup all one's old messages. The only problem is he never seemed to get it to work with MMS, due to limitations in the SE hardware, but I suspect he'll get that working for Androids.
ok guys here is my story.
1) i managed to get a ph.no of a girl yesterday.(i called her once as well)
2) saved it as a new contact on my gmail acc(i think i did it)
3) made a cwm BACKUP(stock rom with speedmod kernel) (after rom manager failed to make a BACKUP) to try a different ROM
4)now i wanted to go back and restore my backup.
5)stuck at bootloop
6)restored to my 1 week old backup.(stock rom with a different kernel)
7)found out google had not saved my phone no.
8)tried to restore the data off of BACKUP(stock rom with speedmod kernel)via advance restore on cwm
9)it went to initial start up page(screen you get once you do a factory reset) and touch screen and keyboard were FC ing.
HELP ME GET THAT NUMBER. PLZ
Can you get an itemised bill from your carrier? they usually list all the out going calls you have made
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Vodafone Romania provides all your calls and sms info if you have an account on their site, if your provider has this option it would be easy for you to identify the number, but i guess you don't have that option, since you would have already though of that.

i recently changed my network. i am currently on prepaid plan(was waiting for a next gen nexus to come to the network before i sign a contract). I think asking them to send me a bill would be too much hassle(the number is worth the hassle but i was looking for a more immediate results) that is if i successfully manage to get through to a human being on what they call their 'customer service'.
Heya, Im still a bit new to rooting my phone seeing as this is my first Android.
A few months ago I got interested in rooting to see what I could do, so I stumbled on galaxys2root.com and managed to root my phone with the zedomax stock kernal. No big deal. Well now that ICS is out I am wanting to update to a new kernal with a mod. So I asked a friend of mine what I should go with and he gave me a few options seeing as he is quite knowledgeable on this subject.
I managed to get Siyah kernal running with the latest CM9 nightly, Im pretty sure I screwed up something because after everything rebooted pretty much everything on my phone crashes. I can make and receive calls just fine and connect to wireless networks, but I cant use sms/mms and about 90% my apps crash and when in CWM It wont let me connect to mass storage.
Can anyone direct me to the best way to get my phone back to stock/near stock so I can re-root or try to install the kernal/mod again?

Do you know if you did a full wipe before you installed cm9?

Whatever you do. Please do not go back to galaxys2root.com ever again. That site has caused many problems to those attempting to root their phone. On another note. Take a look at the development section of this forum and become familiar with the stickies. There will be threads on how to bring your phone back to stock. Good luck and happy flashing!

For future reference, you can set Google to sync your personal info when you first configure your phone, or through settings. And if you go into the Contacts application, in settings you can select import/export, and then export to sdcard. That can be reimported from the sdcard after a wipe, so now you have two ways to save contacts. Neither requires root.
ok been reading for hours for a third time... this time for more specific fixes/info...
i have a SM-N900v Verizon Note 3 on Straight Talk using AT&T towers.
took a little bit to get the right settings but its up and running. the stock settings on strait talk did not work.
anyways been using it for a few weeks now and for the most part works but here are the issues ide like to solve...
Contacts not working...
numbers comming in all have a + in front of them and are treated as international numbers +xxx-xxx-xxxx. with this the numbers dont match my contacts list so i dont see who is comming in and i cant just hit and call back.
* tried prefixer app doesnt work
* tried many settings in the call settings/assisted dialing there were 2 settings that seem3ed wrong and i fixed an left...city/area code was 157 i set 570 and national number length was 11 i set to 10
* Installed Twitch Contacts and had it clean up and change all my contacts to (National Format) (xxx) xxx-xxxx and all my incomming calls had contact names!! i thought i solved it... but not only did those calls call out as international but all my contacts anyplace did.. (sigh) so switched my contacts back to (International Format) +1 xxx-xxx-xxxx then i can dial fine but incomming numbers dont show or match up with my contacts again and they dial as internation calls.
* Changed fr4om global to manual and chose the at&t tower. nope.. changed back.
another issue
Phone Activation this sim card is from an unknown source...
i can kill it but comes back everytijme i start. can this be my issue with contacts? maybe it thinks im from outside usa since it can id the sim?
and...
Voice Mail Update...
Wont Go Away!!!! i have to kill it!!!
im not dumb... maybe real ignorant concerning cell phones... i have a computer repair shop and been in business 18+ years and i need to learn alot more since phones and tablets seem to be the computers of the future... and im already doing screen repairs but i need to learn more... so here i am... learn me =]
Not sure about the solution for the contacts, but for the SIM notification, if you are rooted, then you can freeze the VZW Setup Wizard app and that'll kill that. It might even help with the other situation, though not sure. If you aren't rooted, then killing it after each reboot is the only option.

ive never rooted a phone. can i trust towelroot? and what measures do i need to take to secure myself after i root?
it seems like after i root my note 3 there sould be a config file someplace i can change that would remove the + or at least set it to +1 wich i also think might fix this.

Yea, Towelroot is safe. It only works on those phones with the kernel date that is June or older. You'll want to install SuperSu https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu so apps can't get root permissions without you allowing it. You'll probably need to use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrbimc.selinux if freezing or renaming the apk (I don't recommend uninstalling because you might need it again later) doesn't stick after rebooting. If you are worried about root after that (I wouldn't, but personal preference), you should be able to uninstall everything and use SuperSU to unroot and nothing else will be affected. This method won't trip Knox so your warranty won't be affected.
but i still havent found a fix for this... does anyone have know what files i need to edeit to fix this?
