[Q] Google Navigation Question - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I have an issue with Google Navigation lately where it doesn't do the names of the streets anymore. I have purchased SVOX and even it doesn't. I have tried installing and uninstalling, clearing cache, etc. I am running MeanROM 6.5 and don't really want to go through the hassle of redoing the whole darn phone... suggestions would be appreciated.

By "names of the streets" I assume you mean spoken street names. That's most likely because you're missing or have corrupted your TTS apk.

You mean it doesn't speak the street names? I know it sounds dumb but is the volume up and is voice turned on in the settings?
I always keep voice off cuz it annoys me and my music is always full blast anyways.

GPS is not working!

Hey guys, I installed this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865580 it's great, working (and looking) like a charm!
Thing is GPS isn't working! Maybe it's cus I haven't set up the APN settings yet, but I thought GPS didn't need it (I'm connected to Wi-fi for google to load up the maps)
Maybe it's something I deleted while cleaning it up even more? Which apk is needed for GPS?
It used to work fine in the older ROMs, now the icon still appears, I turned it on through the widget and still google keeps waiting for "my location" and doesn't find it.

Think I'll just wait for the new ROMs with the MT firmware to show up then.
Questions like this should be asked on the original threads, starting threads about other threads just clogs the board.

So you did, Today, 01:23 AM, have you tried reinstalling, as you said you've removed more things? It's best leaving anything related to google installed.

Mine has been working well after the update. Try clearing the data then uninstall, reboot, and reinstall.

Same issue here. Running Only1 base. I have to clear app data every week or it gets stuck repeating the route from the state I was previously working in. The map directions are accurate, but the voice keeps saying to turn on a road from the previous week. Over and over and over again. Crazy.

Why don't you guys use a NAV app that doesn't need data connection? I've been using CoPilot Live Premium and haven't had any problems whatsoever.
Same here

Same problem, Galaxy Nexus VZW on JellyBean, was having the issue on ICS as well. Did an uninstall/clear cache...worked for a while, and then started repeating again. Only thing that fixes it temporarily is clearing the app's data.
Happens to me once a week. Go to applications in settings, force stop maps, clear data, and reopen maps/nav. Problem solved. Its getting very annoying though, to do this once or twice a week.

I had the same problem on the Team Perfection ROM, in addition to it not using my Ivona TTS voice or speaking street names. Clearing cache and data didn't help, neither did an uninstall and reinstall from Play. What DID work however, was installing an older version apk I found (which kept FC for some reason), and then updating that version from Play. (Sorry, I don't recall which version it was, but I downloaded it from Aptoide.) After that, everything worked perfectly again. I noticed other people complaining about the same problem in Play's comments section. Really strange, but at least it works again for me.
Settings > Language & input > text to speech output.
Changing this to Pico TTS fixed it for me.
This has been happening on my phone (Verizon Galaxy Nexus on 4.1.1 JB AOKP build 2) on and off for a few months now, it first started happening right before android 4.1 Jellybean was officially announced. *It was at that precise time that the voice for Google Maps Navigation changed to be the same voice that Google Now uses in Jellybean. I remember there was a period of time where I would hear both voices like they hadn't finished converting all of the speech over to the new voice. It's been ever since then but this problem has been happening, I have noticed the clearing cache seems to sometimes stop it from happening only to return again randomly.

I tried that but latter I got the same error. I am guessing that something is corrupting my data, either an app or faulty hardware.
did you uninstall any app by any chance?
Maps issue
Does anyone here know why my stock map flickers and cause force close in stock navigation. I'm on a custom rom and was wondering if it was the rom or the stock map app. Can anyone help, because I love using google map and navigation.

what rom and kernel are you currently using?..The flicker is a issue with some roms..editing the maxlayer overlay build prop helped with alot of people.
Did anybody think to post what version of google maps your using, without it any fix or info is almost useless because it might work for one version but not another (ex// im on 6.14.1 but someone else may not if not updated or running old GApps

[Q] did i break zip alignment?

After installing Viper ROM, I had a brilliant idea to uninstall a bunch of apps that I don't use.
So I wonder, did that break the zip alignment? Should I go back and reflash it?
Thank you!

You haven't quite yet detailed what leads you to believe that you broke zip alignment... can you give further details?
What are your symptoms, what did you delete.... ?

The only symptom is my general paranoia I just recently read about what zip alignment means, and started wondering whether or not I should have done it.
As far as what I deleted. Swype, Sense launcher, most of sprint stuff, google music (I use the other music player), google movie player, ringtone widget, live wallpapers, mail, gmail, clock, etc.
So far the phone works fine, quadrant scores come out a bit lower than what some people mentioned (comes out at about 4800). My point is that I did all that stupid stuff to make it work faster, but I have a nagging feeling that I may have made it worse. It's not noticeable either way, I'm just trying to understand it better.

[Q] Can't dial numbers that begin with +

Hey guys
I'm using a Sprint EVO 4G LTE with the very latest CM10 Toasted Deck and I'm having this strange issue.
If I try to dial numbers that start with a +, it just dial. Says "Call Ended" immediately. So for example:
212-555-2424 would work fine
but +1 212-555-2424 would get call ended.
The phone is working AMAZING other than that and I love CM10, I don't want to do a system wipe for just 1 small issue, does anyone have a solution for that?
And please only reply if you actually have something helpful to add
THANK YOU!
Bump
Any ideas? I've already tried Restoring the device, wiping it, different Roms, with sense, without.. it all does the same thing
Seriously?
I can't believe no one has a solution for this or is having the same problem. What gives??
This is driving me crazy since a lot of application use the + Method as their default formatting, like Google Voice for example.
same here

Question Spy/malware removal

Is there any kind that actually works? I keep fishing around on Google play and everything is either old, doesn't work, or is full of sh*t, or a combination of all 3.
Welcome to XDA
If you're running Android 9 or higher simply do a factory reset. There are no known rootkits that can worm out of the user partition, once that data is wiped so is the malware.
Don't reload it again after the factory reset.

Which would be how? Would I need a app or something for the pc? And if so do you have any recommendations? I have the mixsilver file manager on my phone (pixel 6 "Not pro"). Would there be a way I could find it thru there? Also my device is not rooted. So would I need to root? I'm sorry if this gets on your nerves. If so tell me, won't hurt my feelings. I'm literally a noob at this stuff. I've been trying to teach myself and just do trial and error but im getting in over my head and don't wanna accidentally brick my phone or worse.
What makes you sure you have spy/malware? Or do you mean adware?
Cheers
Tom
With Avast or AVG Antivirus you can do a pretty good scan of your apps, even system apps if you want.
For Factory reset see here https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/4596836
or go here on a PC (you need your Pixel connected by usb to the PC then): https://pixelrepair.withgoogle.com/carrier_selection

Chrome ****tin out 3 gigs of data a day. I have unlimited so it's not that big of a deal but still.....and some of the options I had in settings like "permissions, enable/disable, clear data/cache" that I know for a fact I had not too long ago are now greyed out or nonexistent. Also sometimes when I bring up "location" thru the settings menu everything is supposed to be "off" but there's 2 or 3 that look like they are switching back to say "off" as soon as the page shows. 1 of them outright takes several seconds to display any "on or off" setting at all. I've found a "Verizon" system app on my phone, some kind of Samsung telephony thing. And it seems like I can input a change to settings or something and when I look at my phone in the morning everything I had set up is back to it's previous settings.

It probably explains all that in those links doesn't it?
Just do factory reset and you are okay.. Then start using phone as new..

For what it's worth, the Verizon system app comes with the phone in case you use a Verizon sim.
If you end up clean flashing or factory resetting, I would not restore any apps from backups. I would reinstall everything fresh or you could just be putting the malware back on your phone, if that indeed is what you have.

Just redownload them. Google remembers your bought apps or subscriptions in your Google account, so as long as you use the same email/account for logging in to Playstore after Factory reset you're good.
Your contacts normally are also synced to your Google Account, so you get them back also then.

It comes with the phone by default just in case you do use Verizon. Basically that app helps give the phone Verizon support, of sorts. It's disabled by default if you don't use Verizon so there's really nothing to worry about with that app.
