[Q] ActiveSync / Exchange Email Attachments Slow to Download - HTC Droid DNA
Has anyone been using their Droid DNA with an Exchange 2010 email server using ActiveSync? If so, are you able to download email attachments at a reasonable speed?
I'm running fully stock Android 4.1.1 on my Droid DNA . Compared side-by-side with my old Thunderbolt, using the same internet connection and the same exchange server settings, the DNA downloads email attachments at approximately 1/20th the speed. (I'd estimate that the attachment download rate is no greater than 50 Kbps, while I'm getting 25 Mbps on a speedtest.net download test.) This behavior is the same whether the phone is on WiFi or 4G LTE. I have tried deleting and re-creating the account with no success, and the speed is not improved (even temporarily) by a device reboot.
This is a painfully annoying issue. My work's IT department basically told me it's not their fault, they didn't change anything.
Any ideas as to why this is happening or whether this is a known issue would be greatly appreciated.

Noticed slow downloads as well. I just figured it was our intenet connection to the exchange server though. Sounds like it could be something else.
Same problem here. Happens on both 4G and WiFi.
I sent an email to HTC requesting support on this issue, and they said they were not aware of the problem. They also said it would be helpful if others having this problem reported it to them as well.

Here's my case number - 12USCW51ENA000196.
They suggested I delete and recreate my exchange account and clear cache. Did both with no improvement.

I've given them the case number.
So I have received another response from HTC. They have a solution. And that solution is to install Touchdown. Are you kidding me HTC? Exchange email is an advertised feature on your top-of-the-line device. It needs to work properly. And buying a $20 app that doesn't integrate into the OS (or look nice, for that matter) is hardly a fix.
For what its worth, I do note that attachments download very quickly with Touchdown. Let me know if any of you find a real solution.

HTC also suggested that I use Touchdown. They also told me it's an exchange server problem and I should contact my IT admin to see if they can help, lol. Sure, everyone experiencing this issue all of a sudden has exchange server problems after they updgrade to the DNA.
I couldn't even get them to acknowledge they are trying to duplicate the problem. Their support people only tried to blame the problem on everything else but the device.

OK,
So my case has been escalated. They have asked me to create a test account in my environment for them to test with which I have done. I would have thought that they would have their own test lab rather then rely on their customers.
I have an HTC Desire HD which doesnt have the slow attachment speed issue so I am hoping that they will acknowledge that the issue is not with Exchange but on the device.
Is the Mail application one of HTC's applications or is it part of Android? I wonder if it is an Android 4.1.1 issue?
I've also tested with Touchdown HD and attachment download speed is fine.

The mail app has been customized by HTC for Sense so it's not stock Android.
They also wanted to escalate my ticket but when they submitted the list of requirements I had to meet, it seemed to me they were just hoping I would go away if they made me jump through enough hoops. My opinion is they are not actively trying to address the problem. They would not even acknowledge that other users had reported the same issue.
Asking customers to do their own testing of HTC apps to duplicate problems just seems wrong. With that approach, not too hard to see why they are failing in the marketplace.

I also mentioned I don't have this speed issue on my HTC Incredible 2 using the same exchange server. Their response was that since both phones run different firmware, it's meaningless to compare download performance between them. Huh? I've now corresponded with several of their support personnel and they don't seem to have a clue. One guy actually said I should ask my IT admin to play around with exchange server settings to see if it would help my problem. I told him we have 50,000 email users globally so you can probably understand why that's not going to happen.
Been a long time HTC customer but this experience with their support group is leaving a lingering bad taste.
Just got an update on this issue from HTC. They say they have entered an 'information gathering mode' as multiple users have reported the problem, and that once they diagnose the problem they will give us a way to fix it or a software update. The email gives no timeframe for this, other than to say the development process can be lengthy.
If they have to push a firmware update to fix this, I doubt we'll get anything in the short-term. It'll have to go through VZW before it gets to us.
Sorry guys, I gave up on their support group. Mostly corporate doublespeak is all I could get. "We're sorry about your problem, there are many 3rd party email apps in the Play Store that might meet your needs".
I certainly don't expect a quick solution but how much information gathering do they need to do? Just all seems like lip service.
Dna / exchange active sync
Having the same god awful attachment speed download. I have called HTC twice hoping I would get in contact with someone who actually understands the severity of this problem. Can't deploy this phone in our environment with this bug. I was told to purchase a 3rd party app...
The guy I spoke with also said this was the first time he has heard of this and asked me to test with different accounts and phones. I have already tested it and found this problem only happens on Exchange 2010. Exchange 2008 and 2003 work perfect.
Amazing how this product went to production with this being over looked!
Based on the type of response everyone has been getting from HTC support, it sure doesn't instill much confidence that a fix will be forthcoming in the foreseeable future. I'm beginning to think that HTC support in the US is nothing more than a few people handling support calls and emails with no actual support work being done here.

Hi,
I'm in the UK and my case is still open with support.
They asked me to create an Exchange 2010 account for them to test with. I can see that they have connected to the account using an One X and not a One X Plus which is where I am having the problem. I dont know if this problem exists on the One X. The emails that they have sent to test with dont contain attachments so I am wondering if they have missed the point.
Anyway, like the rest of you, I am not optimistic unless a large scale customer raises this issue.
I'll update if I get anywhere.

Not getting very far with HTC support. They have said that they cant reproduce the problem, but I dont believe that they have actually tested downloading attachments as they havent sent an emai with attachments on the test mail account which I set up for them.
Does anyone have a case number where they have acknowledged that there is an issue?

Every email I received from HTC support tried to blame the problem on exchange servers or connections. They wouldn't even acknowledge if or when they planned to do any testing to see if they could duplicate the issue.

I know alot of people are upset over having to wait on S-off, while watching other phones, like the newly released Nexus get unlocked fairly quickly. Have you checked over at the Galaxy Nexus forums? Click to collapse +1 I also feel that this is the best product out there right now. I see you are also coming from the incredible. I still miss playing around with new roms like MIUI and CM7, undervolted kernels from Chat and Tiny, etc I have my deactivated Incredible on my desk (with a mod to turn off the radio but leave wifi on) and I still find that I play with it from time to time. Temproot has made the wait less painful, and its been nice not having to worry about flashing new roms all the time. But my vacation from the flashing is over, i'm all ready to start again.

I read a post over on another forum where HTC said the reason they locked the phone was because of Google's request. I have no idea how valid that post was though, since it was the first i've heard of such a reason. I hope more like you continue to contact Verizon and HTC.

When are we going to see s-off on the Rezound? You guys are losing valuable customers and developers to the lesser Nexus due to not being able to unlock it. It's unfortunate, because I really don't know if there enough people who do what we do to make them change their stance. They may just view us as a drop in the bucket, but the more noise we make, the better our odds. BTW, I think it's also important to post on Verizon's FB and emails as well, not just HTC.

It is Verizon locking down the phone if I recall correctly.
I posted on their facebook today about switching to the GNex because of the unlocked bootloader. Said i didn't understand why they were going to let verizon bully them around but let samsung bring out a device with such an easily unlocked bootloader... I really like HTC's hardware, I just really hate sense. I want vanilla android...Since HTC won't sell me a rezound with stock GB or ICS, i have to have an unlocked bootloader to get it.
From VZW Support I can't speak to how HTC phones are supposed to be configured, only how VZW phones are configured. Our phones are set up with software protocols that protect the operating system. Unlocking features expose the device to risk. When I mentioned the Nexus being unlocked, there was no further response from them.
Links don't load (redirect) properly
First the usual disclaimer, i searched and did not find an answer. Now, I don't know if i'm doing something wrong but some links I get in my email or on some forums will not redirect properly. Specifically, ebay daily deal, newegg and some links on slickdeals do not load. Is it a setting? I've been just living with it but I would really like some help. I am on stock rom, rooted, and have tried every browser to no avail. It's either an android issue or a setting because my touchpad on cm9 is the same. Clicking on the link gets webpage not available. Just so there is no question about the links they work on my pc and ipad. Any ideas?

I'm on 4.5.191 i believe. I did the OTA update that was last released but I've had this problem from the beginning.

I have not tried flashing a ROM on my Atrix but strangely enough I have the same issue with my Touchpad on CM7 and CM9. Not sure if you or anyone else gets the ebay daily deals email but I would love for someone to check and see if they can open the links. I can forward the email is someone wants, just PM your email address. I also have today's newegg deal which opens on the ipad but not on any android device I have. By the way Voelker45, thanks for trying to help. I have been thinking about flashing my phone but held off while under warranty. Now that the warranty is up I could do it with guidance from someone like yourself. I would really like to know if I'm doing something wrong that the links don't work currently.

What about flashing ROMS. If you want to start doing that, give me the ok and I will recommend some links to read once you tell me which carrier, and firmware your on. I determined that ebay was using and ad company to handle it's links and redirect to its site. The ad company's address is "links.p0.com". Did some searching on that and found that people reported having issues in Windows also with links from other places (not ebay) and isolated it to their host files blocking the site. Then did some searching on android host files and that's when it stuck out in black and white to me. One find in my search mentioned "adfree" and I realized I'm running adfree. So another search came up with the location of the host files for adfree. The file was too big to edit through root explorer so I emailed it to myself, removed the website and emailed it back. FINALLY, it's working. Makes sense when I think about it now but it just never occurred to me. Now on to figuring out what newegg is using and unblock that. Thank you again friend. Even though you didn't give me the solution you did engage me allowing me to get my mind churning. Who knows this might benefit someone else.

HTC MAX ONE Problem messages. I do not know where to post my request I sent a message to my cousin including a contact using the special education "send contact as vcard" Disastrous result: in a moment the message was sent several times to exhaust myself up * the credit I had on the phone .... luckily only 24 €! I tried setting posts in the instructions along with a technician, but none was wrong! I installed an antivirus (AVG mobile), but found no virus! It is hard to provide you with any kind of relevant answers as you did not give us any information about your phone. Are you S-OFF/S-On. Did you Root you phone. Are you running a Insecure kernel or Custom Rom? These are just some basic questions. However if you did modify your phone and it did not operate as intended. I would hardly expect a refund. As Roms are "Use at your own risk" type of situations.

Replies to those questions can help for diagnostic purposes but not guaranteed to resolve the issue.

From a Technicians standpoint I would actually glean towards it being a network related issue where the tower on your end is not confirming the receipt handshake between the phone and the network. So the device continues to repeat the sending process until it recives confirmation from the network. This is not to say that the root cause of the issue you are experiencing isn't related to the hardware either, only a suggestion but probably best to contact your carrier to confirm. Some carriers include software to triage this issue and ensure the problem is an isolated incident rather than sporadic. Ex. Sprint Zone. Sent from my HTC0P3P7 using xda app-developers app

The kind person who answered said that he would speak with the technicians of my problem and call me back. What he has done on time. As far as supported by the technical problem arises precisely by the command "send contact as vcard" which, they say, is the only one responsible for my problem! * The question now is: how do I delete from Android 4.3 Jelly Beans said command?
[Q] Exchange Server
Decided that I'm officially going to root my latest phone in the collection (HTC One M8). Did anyone experience any issues with the exchange server through the standard email. I ran into problems on the stock image due to HTC's policies conflicting. It's not a major deal because it's a feature I didn't yet have. You would think with me being a Senior IT Support Help Desk that I would know how to resolve this but unfortunately i never really gave anytime for researching it yet till now. :laugh:
Facebook mobile number substitution?
So my ex girlfriend is convinced that I have somehow hacked her phone. (I haven't.) So much so that she drowned an HTC phone and got herself a new Droid Maxx. However she is still having the issues that led her on this paranoid delusion. I am looking for someone to help me explain to her she has not been hacked, or if I am wrong to correct me. The story starts with her saying that her Facebook app on the phone is acting funny. Yeah the nebulous adjective, funny. When I asked her what does she mean by that she has various performance complaints as well as the app crashing at inopportune times. Setting aside such shaky evidence of somebody hacking a phone (because as you know, one thing a hacker does not want to do is let their victim know that they are inside their phone and thus shutting down the exploits they have already put in place) I am now seeking anyone who knows more about this than I do to help explain what she is seeing so that she stops accusing me of something I am not doing. To make matters worse ex-girlfriend decides to start monkeying around with things that she doesn't understand inside her phone settings and discovers something that I finally find to be odd but can't really explain away. She went into her old phone (an HTC M8 I believe) account synch settings and sees the Facebook mobile number displayed as not her own. In fact it's not even a proper number. This odd number was on her previous HTC phone before she sent it for drowning and then her new Droid Maxx phone is showing the same thing. As you know it's useless to go and ask Facebook for any sort of support seeing as how we are not their customers, we are actually the commodity they sell to advertisers so they could give a rat's ass about assisting their commodity. Remember when you don't pay for something then what is being sold is you. I must add that she also has confirmed to me that when she signs in to Facebook in a browser on a PC she does not see her number replaced inside her profile. It seems really very odd to me how her mobile app still knows how to link with her regular profile when the number is not matching. I have an HTC One M9 and I do not have the same behavior as she reports. According to her she can still see her news feeds and friend posts and all that Facebook goodness. She says she has Avast running on the phone, and she does not install any software not obtained through the Google Play Store. My research came up with not a very convincing theory. What I found was a dated forum post regarding a Facebook feature that had been discontinued. The feature being cited was like an address book feature that sought to synch the phone's address book and the Facebook Friends list and address book together. But the discussion did not quite match what I was observing so it is unconvincing that I found what the cause was. Can anyone follow this story at all? Has her phone been hacked? Can anyone tell me a better place to post a question regarding this?
