[Q] How to get my Archos 101 G9 running again. - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I seemed to have bricked my Archos 101 G9.
I bought this second hand as an upgrade to an Archos 101 G8.
It was on a custom firmware and was constantly locking up.
I did the reformat option to try and get it back to stock.
When turn on the tablet it goes straight to a white screen with the menu options "Would you like to recover your system".
I doesn't have SDE installed.
I get these options
No
Reboot
Update Firmware
Repair System
Format System
I have tried the update firmware option using the latest firmware from the archos website but it fails with an error 221.
How can I recover my tablet or is it dead.
TIA

connect you tablet to the pc, then try format system, download the last firmware available and put it on the sd card (a sd card will appear after you finish the format)

That did the job. Thank you.

OOps spoke too soon now it's not getting past the Archos boot logo.
Anyone have any more clues.

Try to download the rom again. That happened to me. Once you get it up and running, put serdus clean and light rom. Your tablet will be nice and snappy.

I've tried the same method again and now it's giving me "Update Failed: (207)"
I'm wondering if there is a physical problem as it sometimes gets stuck formatting the system or creating the data disk.
Does anyone know if there are cheap repair shops in the UK as I don't think archos will do it after being on SDE plus it was originally a replacement refurb from them.

HELP PLEASE: rw6828 crashed while upgrading

Hi all,
I was trying to upgrade to WM6.5 via PC method on my 6828 when it crashed. I am able to flash the bootloader via JTAG method to both 1.0.1 and 1.0.5 but this is where it gets stuck (white screen with HP logo in center and BL version in bottom right corner) - it is not recognized on the PC and will not upgrade via miniSD card (i have tried Toshiba 256Mb, Sandisk 1Gb, Sandisk 2Gb and Kingmax 2Gb) formatted to FAT and then to FAT32.
Is there a way to get Windows Mobile on via the JTAG upgrade method? ... or anything else so i can get this thing going - or has it sustained damage beyond repair and should be thrown out / replaced.
Thanks in advance for any help!
anyone?? ... i have tried everything i can think of and then some .... changed bootloader version numerous times, tried multiple cards and with multiple version of o/s ..... i am thinking throwing this thing out is now my only option ...

You may try to flash the original firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633465
I plan to keep the ICS 4.0.5, dont want to go back, all i tried to do was wipe the data off the tablet so that i can sell it.
example = clear all the things i had installed like gmail, facebook etc etc as i didnt want the man to use my details.

It's most likely you made Reformat instead of Reset. Now the best way is to download official firmware from Archos web site (now it has the latest 4.0.6 version) and install it according to the instructions on the website.

Thanks, only problem is, which i forgot, is after i rooted my archos my girlfriend then went and erased all the different files etc off the computer, so when i connect my archos to the computer, its not showing up anymore.
so because im already rooted, will it be a long process or do i just need to download whats needed for the computer to see my archos?
if so, after i've done that, can i then go ahead and simply apply the 4.0.6 onto the internal memory and install it?

First...can you enter in SDE or recovery menu ? ....
...no need any driver for connect your device !!!!
Follows that :
1 - download your favorite firmware ;
2 - connect usb cable ;
3 - press power 10 s until the green light goes out;
4 - now press volume down and at the same time press power ( for 2~3s) and keep volume down until you see SDE menu ( recovery) on your screen
5 - go to Update Firmware -> and copy here original .aos file ( you have just downloaded it above)
Good luck !

[Q] Is my SGPT121 salvageable?

I have spent a week sifting this forum and was unsuccessful in answering my own question. Please guide me as I am a NOOB to Android. Or straight up tell me I gotta send this in to Sony.
I bought this Xperia Tablet 2 in May. LOVE it! Made no Root mods, totally stock. Updated to 4.1.1 - OK! Updated to 4.1.1 release2 - issues.
Within a week, the tablet would shut off in the middle of Paper Monster and web browsing. I would restart and everything was fine, for a while. Then it shut down and would not boot back up. Sticks on SONY.
Tried soft reset, no luck. Tried Recovery (very hard to get into, fails 80% of the time to enter) no luck, still sticks on SONY.
So I don't have access to put the USB Debugging feature on, and its not rooted so 6.5 All-in-One can't help me (at least not in my current NOOB status)
I did purchase a brand new SGPT122 to replace this one, but have not set it up in hopes maybe someone could tell me how to copy the OS or RECOVERY off of it and install it on my SGPT121 to revive it.
Whats my next step?

Option 1 send to Sony tell them issues and ask for downgrade in firmware. They will probably say it is not possible.
Option 2 root and use AiO tool to install rescure back-door then you can install JB r1. You can then unroot and have it as stock.

OK I have been attempting this all evening. I cannot get my computer to recognize the tablet. That is because I cannot enable USB Debugging because I cannot get past the SONY screen, right? Or is there another way to root?
It appears I can only access the Recovery Screen, and it does not like the version of OTA.zip I have. I have not found Recovery ROMS for this tablet.
I really appreciate your time, Thank You.

Adb should still be available in recovery wether usb debugging is on or not. Is it asking for a driver at all?
If you had the latest update installed then. You wont be able to install anything and it will need to go to sony.

Check your device manager to see if the tablet driver is properly installed, if not, install it. This might help.

Thanks for the help! I called Sony today, they said since the computer doesn't recognize the device and it will only go into recovery sometimes the pad needs service. (I know OF COURSE) But is does stand to reason since I have plugged into multiple PCs and no recognition. They are sending a box for me. I just hope my 32Gb version doesn't tank also.

So just to confirm : Did you try the following: Recovery > Mounts > Mount USB Storage
yes,I tried it but no device is being showned at the pc
Almost same but more severe problem here.
I installed Performance ROM. But there was some problem with it. It was unable to mount storage to PC and many time it showed "USB Device not recognized. So I installed a Multi-mount USB storage and used it. It mounted my phone's storage that day but, the other day, the problem got bigger. When I connect my phone, it showed nothing. No warning or error message at all! THe phone was just charging, that's all! Still today I'm facing this problem. But today I tried to change the ROM by copying files via Wi-Fi. I installed Experimental kernel v12 and Stock based Proted JB .100 firmware ZIP. Installed it by wiping everything but still the problem's same. Please fix. My PC isn't showing anything! Neither any notification nor any error message on connection. I also tried to change the mode from USB MTP to MSC and PTP, still no result. :crying::crying:
Ok, have you tried other means of getting the data on the sd card? Perhaps you can use a sd card reader or another phone to connect it to the PC and copy the files onto that.
Insert the sd card back to ur phone and then in recovery flash the new files...
Don't you know XU??

That's ridiculous! I mean to say that Sony Xperia U don't have SD card. So no option except if you've an OS, you can copy files over Wi-fi but if you don't have OS and a non-working USB slot, you can do nothing except sending it to Xperia Service Center. That's whit I did and it'll take approx 15 days for them to "FIND" and "FIX" the problem even after my explanation on what I did.....

Ah Yes! The Xperia U sadly doesn't come with SD...
In that case, one last check..
In the mounts section does the is the system unticked?

Hmm..... Thanks for this but the phone was just charging on connecting USB, tried changing USB cable, and everything else as I said earlier but none worked. So I sent it to Xperia Care. From the past 5 days they're inspecting that what happened with my phone but still can't fix it. Let's see what happens.....

Today I got my phone back from Xperia Care. They said that to change the USB we need to change the Motherboard and it'll cost INR 5000 (This is 40% of total cost of brand new phone). Is that right to spend so much money?

Nope! If you ask me , add another 2k to the price and you will find yourself looking at brand new phones with better screens , more RAM and better processing power.

Trying to Reinstall System

I've been reading posts about this same problem, but either there was no solution or the one given didn't work. My FHD10 is stuck on the Asus boot screen. I've tried factory reseting it with Droidboot, but that never leaves the boot screen either. I tried downloading the correct system from the Asus site onto an SD card with FAT32 formating (I didn't reformat it, but that's what it reports to have), but none of those files are labeled ASUS_BUNDLE.zip, which is what Droidboot says it's looking for. I tried renaming a few files with that name, but it just kept responding "Can't find image file."
Since the middle of the Droidboot screen indicates that a USB cable should be connected, I tried that. I have a Mac and also borrowed a Windows PC from a friend. When I connect it to either one, the center of the tablet screen says "Ready for Download," but I don't see it mounted on either PC anywhere I can find. If I go into the device manager, I do see it listed as "Android Phone."
So, can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong with the SC card or tell me how I can connect to a PC? I’ve posted this question on two other forums and so far haven’t gotten any responses except to try posting here. Thanks in advance for your help.

There is only a Few Ways To get outta That.
1:Use Odin to Flash a Hot New Baked Firmware.
