Hello, I have a couple of questions that I want to ask about my HTC Amaze.I am using an HTC Amaze 4g running Speed Rom 8.0 by EclipzeRemix and is on 4.0.4. I want to flash a kernel on my device and wanted to know whether I will need S-Off because I already have an unlocked bootloader. Also I want to know which kernel I should flash, because when I google it all of the kernels I found say gingerbread so I am not sure whether it would work on my phone.

You should be S-Off when flashing a *kernel*.
and go here for faux kernels : http://faux.androidro.ms/ruby/beta/
those are ICS i believe . but they're other kernel's such as nightmare's kernel .

thats wrong.. you do not need to be s-off to flash a rom anymore... however you should be using 4EXT recovery when trying to flash a rom, since 4ext has "smart flash" option to flash the kernel properly .. and as for what kernel that could be used for the Amaze.. i only know of the Faux Kernel found here

I understand hboot 1.5 phones that were unlocked using htc unlock method you cant change the kernel, i read the methods for flashing a kernel if you want to do a aeosp rom, My question is I unlocked my hboot 1.5 phone, i have superuser access fine, if i want to flash a sense 3.0 based rom, do i need to reflash the kernel, or do i just put it on my sd card and use the bootloader to flash?

FYI...use FlashGui by Joey Kim in the Themes/Apps section. Very easy way to flash kernels on 1.5.
Do i need to flash a new kernel if am staying with a sense rom? or can i just flash the rom.

This question is essentially a trick question because the answer depends on the ROM.
Some ROMs include a custom kernel and some do not. Some ROMs will boot/work with the existing kernel on the device and some will not.
Without any reference to a specific ROM there is no way to accurately guarantee a correct answer to the question.
Easiest way to check the ROM will be to either look at the updater-script for the write image of boot.img or check the ROM files for boot/kernel/boot.img file name reference. If any of these are present, more than likely will be loading a kernel and will require an extra few steps, due to HTC's unlock method.

all sorts of members have been posting that they have hboot 1.50 with dev unlocked and are easily flashing ics sense 3.6 roms without installing the virgin mobile firmware.. i havent had such luck... and i cant figure out why. i have tried both the fastboot bypass method and also buying the EXT4 recovery and installing through that as well....nothing works....rom boots up and one the setup screen comes on ...it freezes and boot loops .... can some one that has flashed the new sense roms with hboot 1.50 please help me ...and tell me what ive missed or done wrong...
Same problem here, been told I need to downgrade hboot to 1.4 and s-off...too much of a noob for that! Lol

I had the same problem as you guys. Try flashing the rom and chad's ics leak kernel in 4ext recovery and see if that does it. This worked for me.

+1 worked for me to. I had to fastboot into recovery first then flash the rom and then the kernel.

Is there something similar for GSM?
i have am s-on evo 3d gsm...I want a rom with very good battery life and 3d...i hear cool ics has good battery with 1.9 kernel...
Basically my question is how can i do everything like flashing kernel n all other things on my s-on device..
Also i have 4ext recovery..
You need to flash new firmware, and I believe you can't unless you are s-off

i'm s-off gsm and i'm using cool ics with kernel.

Hi, I`m also s-on, unlocked by htc dev and have a bit old Firmware. Cool ics works for me. I flashed the v11 rom, got boot loops,tried to fix them by flashing boot.img via fastboot from v11 rom and it did not work so i tried to flash boot.img from v7 rom and it worked i`m telling you all this because it may happen to you just in case to be prepared if u decide to flash. when you install the rom then you need "flash image gui" to flash the kernel. It is easy to use. Cool rom has good battery life...

eh i paid for this, anyway worth it my phone is very stable and have last long battery now.
You can find flash gui free, newer roms require new firmware thats why you had boot loops on cool version11

Yeah i thought as much, but when you are s-on and there is no hope to get s-off ( tried many ways and only bricked my phone)... you try crazy things .. now v11 works with flash-ed boot.img form v7 and i don`t want to touch anything

I am using Cool-ICS since I find it the only most complete ROM without any major bugs. Its kernel v1.9 has just been released and I can vouch for it that the battery life has only become better. You don't need to be s-off to install this one. Just update your phone to the latest hboot and firmware, unlock it via HTCdev method (that's actually the easy method and which I used as well). Download the Cool-ICS ROM and its latest kernel separately. Do a nand backup in 4ext. Use super wipe (optional) to wipe everything. Flash the ROM first and after booting up first check the kernel version. Then go into recovery again and flash the latest kernel for the ROM.

So I have been browsing around and have decided to flash the newest version of Sebastian's overclocked kernel. I am S-Off on the newest HBOOT currently running zhp's Vigor 1.1 on the latest ICS RUU.
I am assuming I just flash the zip provided (kernel) via recovery correct? Also, what programs do you guys use in order to tune the speed of the cpu's? Is it built into the kernel?
I have also been hearing that people get problems flashing the kernel straight up, and that they need to flash the stock kernel before hand then flash Sebastian's over that. Is this true?

Flash in recovery ( make sure not cwm, our phones dont seem to like that one too much, I would use Amonra for something as serious as a kernel, then switch back TWRP for fun), simple as that, i wipe cache and dalvik but heard that it was unnecessary. You wont lose anything if you do
I use incredicontrol by chad, but sebastians doesn't have fast charge built in. SO that option wont be available.
People get problems because they are s-on flashing it, you dont have to worry, make sure you dont have a ph98img stored on your sd card in case of trouble you can just go to recovery from hboot and flash a different kernel. and make sure u match the kernel with your rom of course, sense 4 , sense 3.6 , aosp , or whatever, i see your rom but i am making sure you understand you cant just slap a kernel that was intended for a different platform.
Changing voltage ABILITY is built in the kernel, but to harness it , you need an app , once again i like incredit kernel, i am hearing issues with setcpu, choose your flavor.

Yes I am. It will run on 3.14 or 4.03 as long as you are flashing over a kernel that it unsecured.

hmm. alright that sounds alright. How can I find out if the kernel is unsercured? I am running the stock kernel which was included with zhp's vigor 360 1.1

Hello! I have unlocked BL, and I installed the mysense-dx rc 3.5 on my DX, with the attached kernel.
Yesterday, I try to flash mysense-dx5 rc 4.0, without the kernel. I wiped, flashed the ROM and after the HTC logo, it shows a black screen. I didn't flash the kernel attached to mysense dx 5, I used the rc3.5's kernel. The same happened with InsertCoin, too. The problem is with the kernel? But they wrote, these ROMs shuld work on every kernel. Can it be another problem?
Are you S-ON or S-OFF? Probably S-ON. If so, flash the kernel manually. Take the kernel (boot.img) out of the ROM-zip. Use the search on XDA to find out how to flash with fastboot.
But they wrote, the mysense dx5 shuld work on every kernel. So why it doesn't work on rc3.5's kernel??

Just give it a try, as suggested. I still don't know if you are S-ON or S-OFF. What HBoot version do you have?

Then the solution for you is to flash the kernel manually because of S-ON. Again: to start, best is to flash the kernel which comes with the ROM.
Maybe the problem is that you use an ICS kernel (v3.5) for a JB ROM (v.4)
Thanks. But if I take a nandroid backup from my current rom and my current boot, than flash the sense 5 ROM and the kernel and i don't like the new ROM, can I restore the previous ROM and the boot? You can restore the ROM-image. I don't remember well if the kernel gets restored also. Most of the time I flash the kernel manually. If you are on JB, use JB-recovery and JB-ROM/kernel.
Advise: stick to S-ON and learn to use fastboot-command for flashing kernel. It is just 1 DOS-command, clean and safe. Don't mess around with old software which tells you that 'it is very easy to use'.
