[Q] My Galaxy i9100 is hard Bricked, any help? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
This is my first thread, so first of all I want to apologize for my ignorance because i need to be honest with you guys is that i don´t really know much about this.
Thing is I bought this Samsung Galaxy SII i9100 and it had jelly bean installed, problem with the phone is that altough it was working fine in software terms (going into the internet, using the instant messaging services and social networks and so on) the camera had terrible lags, it just crashed everytime i tried to use it, so I decided I needed to go backwards, meaning I wanted to flash an older version of android to this phone, now here´s what happened
1.- I looked online for several websites including this one, and found out i needed the ROM, which i downloaded from sammobile (sorry i´m not sure if i´m allowed to say the source here it is another website), it was I9100UHLPP_I9100UHLPG_I9100UWALP5_HOME.tar.md5 for dominican republic.
2.- also read i needed the PIT, so i got it and used the omap4_all_20110627_emmc.pit.
3.- Followed this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1814801
Now here´s the problem, i succesfully placed the phone in download mode, and it got recognized by odin, but it failed when flashing, the phone got stuck into download mode, no activity was shown on Odin or the phone whatsoever, so i tried the most STUPID solution you can think after some time scratching my head without knowing what to do, I removed the battery.
Now the phone is not responsive at all, i plug the charger and it doesn´t show anything, use the 3 buttons and it doesn´t go to download mode, won´t come on, but it does get very warm on the camera area when plugged to charge.
I´ve read several threads of bricked galaxy phones but I wasn´t sure of any of the solutions posted, so I decided to ask directly miself, I know I posibly made some mistakes here, and I would really appreciate your help guys.
Before any of you asks me this, i don´t have a JIG so i haven´t tried that (as i said i´m kind of a newbbie with all this)

Service centre or maybe JTAG repair by 3rd party repairer. If you're lucky service centre won't notice/won't be able to tell you've borked it & repair it under warranty. If they don't get in touch with a couple of JTAG repairers (Google) & compare the cost with what Samsung/authorised repairer want to charge your to repair it.
Bricked is bricked. Nothing anyone here can tell you that's going to fix it given you're getting nothing out of the phone.

The phone has no warranty so i´m F... up lol

OK. In that case, get in touch with these guys (as I said in my PP, if you do a Google search you'll find others. You might even find one near you if you ask at local mobile repair shops).
If the phone can be JTAG'd (and you're only going to find out if someone who does them has a look), it will be much cheaper than paying a Samsung service centre/authorised repairer to fix it.

I´m on it already.

I already got in touch with a local 3rd party repair centre, they say it varies between 15-90 dollars to get this fixed depending on how bad it is, that is assuming it can be JTAGed, if it can be, i´ll let you guys know the information for the colleagues in Dominican Republic so they know, if not, then I guess I just got myself a very expensive paperweight :crying:

Good News!
My Galaxy SII i9100 is alive, i took it to this place and the JTAGed it and it works fine now, I still complain a little about the camera lags but is much better than before.
Should I post the information of the repair centre?
is that allowed?

Yep, do. Someone else might find it useful at some point.

Corrupt Bootloader :-( Dead Qtek2020... Need Urgent help...

I was updating my bootloader using the pnewbootloader.exe app found on the xda developers FTP this morning and something weird happened.
When the app was done it wrote 000000x000000 at the end and that was it. After updating my bootloader I restarted my phone, but it wouldn't start. It just froze at a black screen. Nothing.... I doubt if it's even on. Tried charging it and then turning it on but no responce. Even the Led is dead. I tried all sorts of methods to bring back to life but all has failed. It won't even charge for god's sake. I noticed that when i remove the battery and charge it without the battery, the led would turn red. Otherwise the device is completely unresponsive.
I desperatly need help hear you guys. This is a call for all the Pocket PC geniuses out there. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you have only two options..
GO TO THE NEAREST SERVICE CENTER and let them fix it for you
or
Do this (the instruction is for wallaby)
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WallabyJTAG
if you get the result : 000000000:00000000 .. you upgrade your device correctly.. but why it kills your device .. i really dont know ..
the correct bootloader for HIMALAYA are boot_1.03.nb0,boot_1.01.nb0 and bootloader_1.06.nb0 ..the other bootloader in FTP the 515.nb0, 517.nb0 is for WALLABY .. bootloader_for_wm5.0 is not a bootloader but an IPL thats why i added in the name and warned not to use it.
anyway i already gives my warning about Downgrading/Upgrading a bootloader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=124909#124909
and was about to post HOW to do it .. but i change my mind since i also kill my Device due to some research and experimenting using an older than 1.01 bootloader

where can I find a service center here in manila?
tnx a lot
Thanks for your tip but ......
Well from what it seems I must have fried my device.... Now my question would be, how the hell are they gonna fix it ? And how much will it cost ?
If it's a matter of flashing a new bootloader then it shouldn't cost too much, but if they plan to replace a rom chip then I would suspect high repair charges.
If any body has any idea how much it might cost to have this problem fixed please don't hesitate to mention it cause it will surely make a difference.
If it's gonna cost me alot then I would rather buy a used xdaII and use it as spare parts for my original xdaII. Probably change the whole PCB and have it replaced with the used xdaII's PCB

if it is under warranty .. just dont tell them about flashing your bootloader .. they will fix it with no cost .. but if already out-of-warranty .. then i dont know how much really it cost for them to repair it ..
but there is always one fact in service center .. no matter how big or small they will do to your device .. it will take long before you can get your device back ..

I got one question here .....
First of all allow me to extend my thanks to Toenailed for his help on this. Now for my question. I don't get ..... How come, after all the software and hardware knowledge we've got here in this forum, we still can't fix corrupted bootloaders ? Can it be true that service centers have special hardware equipment designed to flash corrupted bootloaders ?
I live in U.A.E, Dubai .... and to be honest, I'm pretty sure that the service center is gonna tell me that the PCB needs complete replacement. Our service centers prefer to replace rather than to fix. I bet if I tell them about the bootloader issue they won't have a clue and insist on replacing the main PCB.
I seriously don't know what to do. I'M STUCK !!!!
is there a way that bootloader can be done without the need of the service centers?can you teach us?
Ok you guys this is ****'n serious **** ....
I sent my phone to the service center this afternoon, and guess what .... they couldn't understand what happened and have sugested to have the PCB changed. Changing a PCB would cost 1,400.00 DHS This is sooooooooooo ****'n expensive. A used pocket pc would cost 1200.00 DHS. I got so pissed off at this. Our service centers prefer to replace than to repair.
Now, it's been 18 hours without my pda and it's been a living hell so far. I'm so ****'n desperate right now that I could actually kiss the guy that comes up with a solution.
This is a call to all pocket pc experts including ( Buzz Lightyear, Toenailed, and Mamaich ) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE you guys ... This is really heart breaking. I'm currently trying some reviving methods but so far I haven't been lucky with anything. I really hope you come up with a solution u guys !!!
There's only one way to fix the Bootloader is by using the Jtag method to the PCB which is not described or anyone went into this experimentation especially on the HIMALAYA's Board or later ones..
I'm sorry to disappoint you my friend but pray if Toenaild will go further more and study it  and making it easy to happen...
I'm really stuck here .....`
Buzz Lightyear & ToeNailed
For God's sake please come up with a simplified version of the steps needed to repair a corrupted bootloader. I'm sooooooooooooo ****'n desperate now. Our local market doesn't even have spare parts or pcbs.

[Q] hard brick i9300

hi,
my i9300 seem to be hard brick, but i don't understand why and how because i strictly did nothing
my phone is not rooted. it was in my pocket, and perfectly working, a few minutes later i would use it and it died.
i thought it was the battery, so i tried a few things that i could find. but nothing works.
all i tried did nothing (the screen is always black)
the big problem is i'm living in montreal canada and the phone come from miami so samsung want repair it :crying:
help me please
I'm sorry to hear this, but looks like you are one of the many with sudden dead gs3.
If you cannot fix it at samsung. Best chance would be to buy a motherboard or a smashed gs3 and use the motherboard.
I think would be cheaper to send it to samsung and let them replace the board for you. Email them and ask and compare prices.

Samsung S3 I9300 Owners that have/had a cracked screen

Hello all
I'm in a bit of a pickle, My S3 got a sudden death overnight while it was charging normally
It was rooted with stock kernel as well as having a cracked glass screen from a slight fall on asphalt..
Now my problem begins with dealing with Samsungs Service center, They claim they wont fix my SDS (motherboard) under warranty unless i pay ~210$ to change my whole topframe/digitizer/LCD/Glass which costs around $175 online, and all they way down to $150 if you buy bulk.
Anyways i'm pretty sure that the crack is mainly on the surface and affects only the glass screen panel, which I'm perfectly capable of changing myself (Is it possible without voiding warranty?) and the kicker is it costs ~$7 dollars..
So what should i do? fix it myself and try to have them cover the mobo/SDS, or is there a way i can make sure its only the glass screen so i can use that as leverage when dealing with the Service Centre, TBH i dont trust them 1 bit, they are all incompetent and just keep repeating what ever is handed to them.. The guy even tried to flash my phone then and there through Odin, he was convinced it was only a software thing. The crazy thing is before that my PC could see my phone when i connect it and Odin would read my USB connection normally.. NOW its definitely worse cuz even the PC cant identify the device when plugged in, nor odin...
Please advise on what the normal operating procedure in your country for a situation like this, also which path should i take? Of course i would rather not have to pay and extra $210, as i specifically asked them to just leave the screen alone, i have no problem with it, and just change the mobo or hand me a new one.. The reply is always along the line of... " its against policy sir, once a phone enters maintenance, everything has to be fixed" OK i get that, a bit cheeky. But when i can fix my screen for 10$ then its plain theft!
Im soo disappointed in Samsung at the moment. Can't believe i'm geting completely F***** out of my hard earned cash like that.
Thanks for taking the time to read.
PS: i'm currently using a $17 LG phone, amazing, charged for 2 hours, its been full battery for 4 days lol /Sarcasm
That is the normal Samsung response .
Why are you not returning the phone to the vendor under warranty ??

Brother, Why don't you try some other samsung service center?
It doesn't matter if your touch screen is damaged or even not working. If your phone is under warranty, and you ask them to replace the motherboard they can not refuse! (The broken screen does not comes under warranty) tell them to accept the phone like that only.
May be the guy in the service center you approached is a retard! Try another service center.
SERIOUSLY BRO!

Whats normal? are you sure you read the entire post. They took my phone in for a checkup today, not feeling optimistic at all.. and under 'warranty' ill likely have to pay a minimum of 220$ to get it fixed, that includes a complete new front frame/glass/digitier/lcd.. plus they might not cover the SDS motherboard because it has a cracked screen, the replacement of which [only the glass screen] would cost me ONLY 10$ to fix. But they say if its cracked it might be misuse therefore voiding waranty! BULL****, the phone is made so the screen cracks and not the actually LSD hence it should be quicker, cheaper and easier to fix
The motherboard part i'm not sure but i think its about $170 online price.
How are you not getting this! its obscene thievery masked behind "maintenance policy".
If all else fails i will be between throwing my phone in the trash and buying a new phone.. or spend around $200+ buying the parts and assembling them myself! this is not the kind of service you expect from a high end smart phone mnfg.

Thanks already read through that thread!
They all operate under the same pollicies (Samsumg centres) here in Egypt! They don't just assume the customer is correct and under warranty, they tend to try to scam you to pay up for anything.. although it should be covered under warranty..
disgusting service. I want to file a formal complaint to Samsungs regional director once i get his contact..

Samsung's response as i said it their normal response for damaged phones as you describe warranty void .
You say .
>>>It was rooted with stock kernel as well as having a cracked glass screen from a slight fall on asphalt.. >>>
That means in Samsung's view according to their warranty terms they will refuse warranty on two counts its rooted and it has a cracked screen .

No chance. If you have to ask, you won't be repairing it on your own. Why ? If you had the necessary knowledge/skills, you'd be resourceful enough to have already found out the extra info you might need.
Take it to someone who knows what they're doing, or if you fancy rendering the phone permanently unusable, search for the service manuals; they've been posted here before & a Google search should turn them up.

How do you honestly expect anyone here to diagnose a phone that's been runover by a car without having the phone in front of them ? Be prepared to be very disappointed. You also just proved my suggestion that you're not capable of fixing it with that post of yours; save yourself time/grief & take it to someone skilled in repairing phones. Or sit here in this thread expecting the impossible for days/weeks/whatever *shrugs*

Samsung Galaxy A31 - best free app or service to track lost phone?

Hi all,
I post here because there is no specific section for Samsung Galaxy A31 SM-A315G.
I am looking for something better than Google Find My Device or Samsung Find My Phone, Google's option is really bad and Samsungs are even worse.
If I go in https://www.google.com/android/find?u=1 and try to track the phone its always behind 2-3 hours, and that is really stupid if the phone is stolen, which has happened once and it was lost another time.
This stupidity even if the phone is right next to me or a few meters away.
Samsungs option can't even locate the phone correctly or show a proper map.
Is there anything better, I already tried Where's My Droid.
I live in the Philippines and my Girlfriend keep loosing her phone or can't find where she put it, last day she forgot it in the shop, and a co-worker said she would bring it back, but at 10pm still nothing so I tried tracking it with above mentioned results. The phone were returned next day, but I really need something better.
So can you suggest something that will lead me straight to the phone if stolen again?
Or how to get Google Find My Device to work as it should and Google claim.
With kind regards
Jan
