Using a MVNO and "roaming" triangle - Nokia Lumia 800

Hi, guys. I've got a Lumia 710 with Windows Phone 7.8 and I want to know if there is any registry hack (or something like that) that makes the OS recognise my MVNO as a local operator and not a roaming one.
For information, I'm using chilean Virgin Mobile, which works using the Movistar Chile networks.
I know there was a trick on android, making it believe it was a local network and not roaming by checking the option labelled "national roaming".
Can it be done?

Hi,
Even I would love to know if this is possible,
I am using by Lumia on Lyca network in dublin (The phone was an Orange one from UK which was later unlocked by Orange itself)
It shows the triangle shwoing I am in roaming mode when I am usign the local lyca sim
It kind of drives me nuts. It would be great if someone could help in this.

I use Tesco Mobile in Ireland. You get the roaming triangle on all Windows Phones on this network.

Yeah even TESCO is an MVNO like Lyca. Need to check with someone having O2 or Vodaphone in Ireland

I can confirm that the triangle does *not* appear on O2 or Vodafone in Ireland. It's only when you use an MVNO like Tesco or Lyca.

Yeah, but how can you get rid of that triangle? I mean, it's really annoying and I'm not roaming. :S

Do let me also know if you find a solution as it is really annoying to me too.

Guys, I found a solution for this problem. I'll post it in the "Windows Phine 7 Development" forum here on xda, so everyone can use it. I'll paste the link as soon as I post it
EDIT: here's the link

No Service? Help needed!

Hi peeps I need some help over here. Currently my phone is unable to connect to the my network. It shows "No Service" yet I am able to detect networks. Just that I am unable to connect to them. The sim card that I used is working on other phone which shows full reception. To confirm that my HTC Hero has problem, I used another working sim card on it. Nothing has changed though. I am not sure if it is a hardware or firmware problem.
I am using a rooted phone flashed with Elinux Special Edition 2.2.1 Final, Baseband version 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.14
Sounds like the imei is blacklisted. Can't do much with that
Sent from my Motorola Startac running Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
How do I check if imei is black listed? I bought this phone first hand.
In fact I had sent to htc for servicing and they told me its the faulty hardware. My phone warranty expired 2 months ago Now they want to charge my an insane price to change the whole phone board Is there anyware to fix this phone because I actually intended to sell this off in 2 months time.
Is your phone locked to a different supplier? Did it used to work with this SIM?

It was working fine that day. The next morning there is no reception as shown in the phone.
Who's your network provider ?
I've had no end of grief with meteor IE, every other sim works fine but meteor only gets a service if you turn off 3g

[Q] Need Help. Simple quation for most

hello Guys,
This may be a simple question I just don't have the simple answer too
I sell my HTC hd2 and wondering to get something new, so I get Motorola photon 4g w/o plan, yesterday it arrives directly from motorola.store for $549
I`m leaving far away from USA, our country is Azerbaijan, Baku. it is 3000m. away from Turkey.
anyway, photon 4g came with his sprint Sim card (with ICC ID code on it)
I took it out and installed our network card, i tried 3 different sim card from different networks, but i can not receive or make any calls, on screen network is in range, but it can not register in network completely,
keep showing:
"contacting Network"
then:
Hands Free Activation
"Your activation could not be completed"
well we do not have here Sprint or AT&T and etc. so i can not call anybody to ask anything
is the tel is block or ? how can i use it with my network sim-cards?
thanks to all in advance, i`m new to motorola.
Call Sprint, there should be a sticker giving you the number on the phone when you buy it. If I answered what you were asking...

I called them, they keep asking sprint cell. phone number. do i have it ?
Interested in this as well as I may be on the same boat pretty soon.
If you bought it off-contract, I don't see why you'd need a Sprint account...

sorry did not had internet...
anyway i did not get any reply from sprint only massage:
Dear Sprint Customer,
Thank you for your inquiry. I am thinking that if you bought a new Motorola Photon you would have needed to activate the phone in the US before you left on your trip. Phones will not activate internationally. I do apologize.
Thank you,
Patty (rd756540)
after that i get in "mobile networks" then "Network Mode" in phone
"Sprint only"
"Any CDMA"
"Any GSM/UMTS"
"Automatic"
well i put on automatic, then network came
after that i gone to "Select Network"
"GSM only - Saves Battery"
"UMTS Only - Better performance"
"Automatic - Default'
(What is i this???
Anyway I Choose automatic - as i said network came and phone is working, but you need to do it after each restart of phone.
Also it also working like in roaming mode, i mean phone showing everything like in roaming.
USSD codes are not working at all
so it is still problem.. i do not know really what to do , any suggestions?
is it any way to install new rom with completely "sprint" things off the phone?

T-mobile / Orange Roaming

Hi all,
I'm on t-mobile in the uk and on my previous phone (htc hero) I was able to flick automatically to Orange's signal when I had poor t-mobile signal. When this would happen the phone would let me know I was roaming.
However, on my new Galaxy S2 it never seems to change to Orange's signal and my phone is never roaming. This has resulted in me having worse reception on my new phone over my old hero.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so is their something I can do to fix it?
I'm using the standard unrooted rom.

Mine would never do this either.
Go to the mobile network settings and MANUALLY connect to Orange.
Then wait for it to connect and then go back in and choose Automatic.
This fixed it for me my phone now roams.
Did you take out a new contract for your phone? Maybe you need to activate the network sharing again from the tmobile website.

Thanks, just tried this but still no joy. Interestingly when I manually connect to "T-Mobile Orange" instead of just "T-Mobile" and then check the roaming status, it still says "Not roaming" - shouldn't it say "Roaming" when I'm on Orange?

Thanks, I called T-Mobile a couple of weeks ago to check to see if anything needed setup on my account and she said that it was all good to go. I think T-Mobile have removed the ability to opt-in to network sharing as I can't find it anywhere, I think it's automatically enabled for all new accounts.
It's driving me mad as I feel like I'm missing out on something and I can't see any way to fix it :-(
ok i just manually switched to orange and it says i'm not roaming. That's what i'd expect to see as both networks are considered 'home' networks. Maybe you just haven't been in an area with no tmobile coverage??
I had to send a text to T-Mobile (1221 I think) to use the Orange network when I had the HTC HD2. It switched seamlessly when I went out of a T-Mobile signal area.
When I upgraded my phone to the SGSII, there was still no problem switching networks. Admittedly I used the same SIM card, so that might be the switch-over went so smooth.

Yeah i remember having to send a text to opt in to the network sharing, though as the OP has pointed out i believe it's automatic now for new contracts.
Thanks all. I've realised that it's simply that my old Hero used to show a roaming icon but the gs2 doesn't. It still flicks automatically from tmobile to orange.
I wish I spotted that before using up your valuable time!

OTA on an unlocked EE

If I unlock my EE 920 will the ota updates still come from EE or will it be direct from Nokia.. I'd prefer to get them from Nokia directly, is it possible?
SIM Unlocking your phone will make difference to how you would normally receive updates.
So this would bascially mean " yes you will receive the updates directly from nokia. wouldnt mind unlocking my p4u 920.
Sim unlocking the device doesnt change where the firmware points to updating.
You need to debrand to the UK Rom for it to get the updates directly from nokia.
with the navifirm stuff rom the other subforum?shame i would need to set up alle the settings again

Thanks for the reply. I read somewhere else that if I debrand to the UK Rom, I loose 4G as EE has exclusivity on 4G in the UK

My phone on EE from Phones4U says in "extras+info" under "Mobile Operator Name" ORG-GB. I assume this means the phone is unbranded? There is no sign at all that the phone is branded to EE or anyone else so I assume that is the case. What does yours say? Was yours direct from EE?
It would mean that you should be okay to flash the unbranded firmware and use 4G on EE.
Edit: Just realised under help it directs to an EE website so it must be branded.
I'm tempted to debrand but I guess that'll end my warranty.
ORG-GB = Orange Great Britain so it is branded, same as my Orange PAYG model.
Stupid question alert: I'm using a Virgin Media sim in mine though, does anyone know if I'll need to put the Orange sim back in in order to get the update or will simply being on the EE network (Virgin Media is a MVNO running on T-Mobile) mean that I'll get the update anyway?

Oh right. I was hoping ORG stood for original. Lol
I'm fairly sure it doesn't matter what sim is in the phone, just what firmware is on it. Hopefully someone can confirm.

I imagine it passes the info to the server, the carrier variant and current version which then returns back if there is an update. Doesn't matter what network you are on since it uses WIFI to grab the update.

Changing Carrier name to EE

I've got a problem whenever I flash a custom ROM
the network provider always shows as NO SERVICE.
I'm on EE which is a UK Carrier that is the bastard spawn of T-Mobile and Orange.
I'm guessing I just have to put EE in as a carrier into the phone somehow?? any suggestions how??

Try installing a diff modem like BVLP7 ( wrks good for T-Mobile and Orange) and see after flashing the Custom rom of ur choice
That didn't work, i'm guessing that the framework.apk file needs to be amended somehow to accommodate the new carrier.
Settings more>mobile networks>network operators> choose orange or T-Mobile whoever you were originally on before it became ee(or ee if thats available). Access point names to find out what this should be just Google T-Mobile android APN settings or orange etc
That still doesn't seem to resolve the issue as my provider is EE and it will switch from orange to t-mobile whenever I loose signal. Changing the provider to use only my home network (t-Mobile) means it'll never switch over to orange .....

You'll need to wait till EE update the coverage in your area.
