[Q] Bootloader loop, can't load recovery - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I have tried searching the forum/internet for any problem like mine but not sure if my search terms were correct, so I will do my best to clarify the situation here...
I have S-OFF, and flashed the latest radios.. I went in to TWRP and wiped everything and was preparing to flash CMX, in the process, I had used the bootloader method to flash the radio. This meant renaming the file to "PJ75IMG.zip" and rebooting to bootloader. Well, now I can't get the boot loader to stop trying to flash that file, and when I say NO, it will only give me the option to reboot. If I let the phone boot up normally (I have been using MEAN rom), I am stuck at the "The Next EVOlution" boot screen with the red dev text, and the white bar at the top right corner not changing.
So.. I can't actually get into recovery from bootloader because of that file, and the phone will not boot up so I can't choose reboot into recovery. Any suggestions?
NEVERMIND... wow I don't know why I didn't think of this. I removed the sdcard from the phone and now it won't load the file.

You need to press the power button for at least 10 seconds till the phone powers down completely, then remove your sdcard. If you can open your sdcard with a computer and remove the zip. If you can't then boot phone without the sdcard to get into recovery, then insert the sdcard while in recovery to remove the zip.

[HOW TO] Install/Fix Red Recovery

I had issues with my recovery ever since updating to DL30 and continuing until EB01. I attempted to install red recovery but I would always boot in blue then had to select apply sdcard: update.zip. This did not make me feel safe so these are the steps I followed in order to fix and update my recovery. This thread is mainly for "newbs" that have a diffucult time understanding what older users are trying to say.
Before you begin, download the cwm-recovery-ALL zip file from jt1134's thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
and
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17566514/update.zip
STEP 1:
Place the "cwm-recovery-ALL" file in the clockwork mod folder on SD card and rename it "recovery-update" replacing the old one already in this folder.
STEP2:
Place the "update" file on the root of your SD card replacing any current "update file".
STEP3:
Reboot into recovery and if you boot in blue select "apply sdcard:update.zip"
STEP 4:
You should be in green recovery now and select "install zip from SD card" then select "choose zip from SD card"
STEP 5:
Navigate to the clockworkmod folder on your SD card and install the "recovery-update" that you placed in there earlier.
STEP 6:
Once "recovery-update" is done installing, go back to the main menu in green recovery and select "apply sdcard:update.zip".
STEP 7:
You will still be in green recovery but on next reboot you should boot into red. If you are still booting into green, copy the "update" file on the root of your SD card and paste it in the clockworkmod folder on your SD card. Delete the existing "recovery-update" and rename the "update" file you just placed in there "recovery-update".
-Try booting to recovery once more and you should now boot directly to red recovery. If not, please start over and go step by step.
-If you still have issues with booting to red recovery after following these steps, please flash http://db.tt/6dZUc7d in Odin and start steps over. (Thank you Takafiji)
NOTE:
I am not responsible for anyone who destroys their recovery by not following the steps provided. Please, please read carefully.
Credit to jt1134 and Takafiji for providing the recovery files.
Thanks, I was tired of using Odin to get Red recovery mode every time I wanted to flash a new ROM. For some reason I still find myself needing to reflash the eb01-modem.tar everytime I want to install a new superclean eb01 build.
also i think the sammy kernel sneaks in and replaces cwm with there stock (blue) recovery. so i recommend on first flash using odin, then boot directly to recovery, (not going into bootscreen) then follow his directions.
Also thats not my dropbox link its another guys, ill find the name, i just used it because it did the job.
Blue recovery does "sneak" in it seems. I have red recovery but blue does load sometimes with a "failed" message. If I apply "update" it goes to what looks like download mode. From there nothing works. Hold down volume keys and power reboots into red. Sometimes recovery goes directly to red? Trial and error....

That happened to me as I was following these steps the first time. Turned out I had a bad update.zip file. Make sure your files are named correctly and not "update.zip" as it will show up in your system as "update.zip.zip". Should just be named "update" on root of SD card and "recovery-update" in clockworkmod folder. If you haven't followed the steps I provided please do as I haven't had any issues yet with it. Maybe try Takafiji's advice and flashing the Odin files first.
if using windows the way to change and see the extension of a file such as .zip open up "my computer" click "tools" (if you cant see it hold the "alt" key) then click "folder options" hit the "view tab" and uncheck "hide extensions for known filetypes" hit ok and your set! Now you can see .zip, .java, or whatever the extension is!
I folowed this procedure. It worked. Except when rebooting to recovery from rom manager it reverts to blue recovery and cant go any further. When i use the startup volume keys and power it goes to red. When i use the shut down and recovery from the power off screen it goes to red. Only when I use rom manager it goes to blue. Normally I wouldn't mind because i can still get to it to flash roms but trying to use the blackhole custom rom it would be much easier if I let rom manager flash all the files in a row instead of manually flashing one by one. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Great info - Thanks!
A couple of questions:
Can the Red CWM restore backups taken with the Green CWM?
The Reset Battery Stats command does not give any indication that it worked. I select it, say Yes, I really want to reset battery stats, then I am back at the Advanced menu. Did the reset work?

I think its the kernel to tell you the truth. I saw it in another cwm post that the sammy kernel will replace cwm. Try following this method but add in an odin flash of http://db.tt/6dZUc7d then on first boot go directly to recovery if you get to boot screen start over, once in recovery follow the steps in the first post.

Rom Manager uses the recovery-update.zip file in the clockworkmod folder. After installing recovery-update.zip in step 5, did you copy the update.zip file on the root of your SD card and paste it over in the clockwork mod folder and rename it recovery-update.zip? It should replace the recovery-update.zip you placed in the folder on step 1. I just used RomManager to boot to recovery and it took me directly to red.

Yes, it can restore backups from green.
Personally I have the same question about wiping battery stats. I believe there is an issue currently with wiping on FROYO because I have noticed even though I wipe data and cache multiple times before installing any Rom, I still seem to have leftover data from the previous Rom such as wallpapers. I tried wiping on green before I installed red and it did the same thing, so I do not think it's limited to red but rather an issue with FROYO support.
I had to use the odin file first. It booted into red.
Then when I tried it through RM. I went to blue and couldn't verify the signature?
And I when I enter recovery mode manually, and try to select update.zip, it begins but gets about 25% and then the triangle with the exclamation point appears.
It works through odin, but never any other time.
Any help? All is appreciated.

The Odin file just places update.zip on the root of your SD card but you must still follow all of the steps for it to function properly. If it couldn't verify signature something is wrong with the update.zip file on the root of your SD card. Try deleting that and flashing the Odin file again. Then proceed to follow all of the steps again.
I installed it and can reboot into green recovery but when installing anything from the rom manager I get a invalid certificate message...

It didn't put it on the sd card. It just rebooted. Seems like nothing changed. I was closer when I put the update.zip on the sd.

You shouldn't be in green you should be in red. Adrynalyne recently stated that he does not condone the use of Rom Manager since it does not support us very well right now. Though I have used Rom Manager after installing this and everything works. If you are booting into green you must follow the steps after to boot into red and then everything should work except wiping battery stats.
alright folks try this after you flash red cwm vid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021 using odin or the zip file, delete both update.zip from root and recovery-update.zip from clockworkmod.
This may sound crazy, but i've found out cwm red gets flashed to the boot partition,so theres no need for update.zip anymore.
grab http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=958209 its the new rom manager that will allow you to fix permissions.

Need help to restore

I loaded the Gingerth3ory Rom and it freezes and reboots. I tried loading Rom Manager and cant get it to reboot in recovery. I tried hboot and cant do anything there. Can anyone point me in the right direction to recover my phone.
I cant get it to stay up long enough to do anything. Constant reboot or freeze.
Make sure there is no radio images on the root of your sd card, power off, boot while holding volume down. From the boot loader menu select recovery

Ok just formatted the sd card and put 3 .apk's on there and the Rom I want. Reboot to hboot, selected recovery and nothing. Boots into the Rom the Im having problems with. My phone stays on less then a minute before it freezes and reboots. Cant do much.
Ok I formatted the sd card and read it needed a signed image , so installed on sd boot to hboot hit recovery and nothing still goes into old rom that freezes and cant do anything.

formatting the sd card with anything but cwm seems to create problems, especially with hboot.
You have clockworkmod recovery installed?

Thats weird...Id say try reflashing the recovery and if that doesnt work then flash the RUU
Just installed TWRP Recovery and tried to flash a new ROM through that and when I rebooted it opened on the start as well.
I am really stuck
Perhaps the volume button is inadvertently stuck down. This would make you boot into recovery every time. I suggest examining the volume rocker or even the internal buttons to see if it is being touched by dirt or something.
Tried looking at the volume down button and no luck.
Could this have something to do with the PG86IMG.zip file on the root of the sd card.
I removed it and thats when this started happening.

The PG86IMG.zip will either be a recovery img or splash screen...can you mount and unmount your card from recovery? Try doing that and removing the PG86IMG

Finally fixed it last night thanks to scrosler and yourself
Heres the fix in case anyone runs into this down the road
Download ruu ZIP here: http://www.scottsroms.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=20
Reboot to hboot
relock the bootloader using this command "fastboot oem lock"
reboot to hboot again by pulling battery this time.
Go to recovery
Rename downloaded file to PG86IMG.zip
Mount USB storage and copy the file over
pull battery again
reboot to hboot and it will scan file and flash it.
Then unlock re-install recovery and you can go from there.

[Q] Stuck at boot screen

Hi, I was rooted and tried to add some ringtones to my system/media folder. Instead of saving it to my SD card and then using a file explorer to move the files like I usually do, I tried to use droid explorer and do it from my PC. Now my phone won't get past the motorola logo when I start the phone. I'm not really sure what to do, can someone help me?

I doubt that adding some ringtones to your /system/media folder from your PC would result in a non-boot condition. Sounds like you may have messed up some system files when you were doing what you were doing. Are you sure you did not inadvertently move/delete/alter any other files?
Do you have an unlocked bootloader?
I figured that was what I did... I dont have an unlocked bootloader. Should I?
I'm going to assume that my phone is bricked...

I have a similar problem and I know I am not bricked but can't currently get out of my jam. This is the process I used so far:
I unlocked bootloaders and rooted with an automatic script program
I installed superuser and CWM from the market
I placed the cm-7.2.0-olympus and gapps .zip files in my root of internal sd
I wiped with moto-fastboot followed by wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and Dalvik
Then I installed the CM7.2 and Gapps zip files from the sd - and now I'm stuck at the M boot screen with Unlocked at the top.
I can boot into recovery and at the top of the recovery screen it reads Atrix 4G Recovery v4.0.0.2 goapk.com so I am thinking that the script I used initially installed a different recovery program and I am not actually using CWM. Also when I get into fastboot mode it says my battery is too low to flash and I don't have an indication that the battery is accepting a charge when it is plugged in...
I can get into recovery but even if I wipe and reinstall the zip I can't get past the boot loop - any suggestions?

I think that tenfar recovery that you flashed through automatic script. You can just get rom racer recovery flash it through fast boot or Just download this recovery and flash it like any ROM and reboot.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659890

Try to flash your phone with your stock firmware using rsd lite
here a list of firmwares ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1125944
WARNING! : flash it with YOUR stock sbf !!!
OR
Flash the latest sbf for your phone. I've done several with no problems. Yes, you do lose the unlocked bootloader though.
This will return you to stock. I used the same files.
You can avoid bricking your device by not flashing any over-the-air updates to Android 2.3.4. Instead, try flashing the 2.3.4 zip over here. Or, flash the pure stock images from here.
Worked!

Not sure why the other recovery wasn't working but your solution worked swell! Thank you for the assistance. I think it is communities like this online that make Android superior to other mobile OS platforms. It is a highly customizable experience but without these forums I'd be lost.

Stuck, no way to get into recovery

So here's the story, I'm on a new version of cm, I decided to install a thicklizard kernel, did a backup in twrp (newest version), I'm s-off, and it wouldnt boot. It just hangs on the boot animation. So no big deal right? I go to my bootloader to get back into recovery but I have a firmware img on the root folder of internal storage so it tries to install that, I say no, and it asks to reboot my phone, no option to go into recovery (used to be able to on the 3d or og). So now I let it boot up to the animation and I go try adb... well it says device is offline. I have debugging on and what I'm pretty sure is the newest platform tools (adb etc.). So I'm stuck, no adb, no accessible bootloader, no workable rom... any ideas? Is there a button combination to boot into fastboot, recovery, or wipe my phone? Any help woiuld be great
