Okay, so I have heard a lot about the wifi problems on the Prime, but I have had mine for about 8 months and had no problems, until today.
I have previously had no problems connecting to the wifi at work, but today, when I tried to connect, the hotspot couldn't be found. I thought it might be an Android problem, but I tested it with my phone, and there was no problem.
Then I decided to test the tablet by connecting to my phone. I had no problem connecting to my phone.
So is there any reason why only my work hotspot isn't recognized? Could the channels be the issue (my phone is on ch6 and my office wifi is on ch 13)?

That seemed to be the problem. After posting this, I thought that the channels could be causing it.
I changed the office wifi to ch6, and now have no problems connecting.

It sounds like you have a rom installed that is based on the US release or one of the other regions that doesn't include the higher channels.

I got my GS2 not too long ago, and from the start, it's had issues connecting to my house router. I've tried the wifi elsewhere, and it works just fine.
I have about 7-8 other devices that connect to my router in my house, and they all work. Why doesn't my GS2 work? It's still on stock rom.
I have Verizon FIOS and the plain router they give you, if that matters. Looking for answers before the 30 day window if possible.
Have you tried restarting your router?

Or check for a firmware update for your router.

Is your router a D-Link? The SGS2 hates D-Link's. It has a fondness for Netgear's.

Will that really help? Everything else works fine.

I'll do it now since it sounds simple enough.

It's an Actiontec. Never heard of that brand.
Is there anything else I can do or check to figure out this problem?
Nvm. I restarted the modem, forgot the connection, then reconnected it. It worked, though it's kind of a weak signal. Thanks given to those who posted.
not the first time I've read that people were having weak wifi signals on their SGS2. I have yet to experience this myself so I'm guessing its incompatible with some routers. I have a verizon fios router and it works great.
I've noticed weaker signals on my S II compared to my captivate and my wife's Atrix. Nothing huge.
That's off a westell 327 dsl router.

I've had no problem connected to secured wifi, but whenever an open wifi is available and I get the notification, when I try to click on it, I just get a Settings crash / force close notification. If I try to manually go into settings and into wifi, it does the same thing. Phone is unrooted - anyone else having this issue?
wifi fix? not for me
I found somewhere online that you can punch *#*#526#*#* into your GSII, and it fixes wifi problems. When I do this, it does begin a driver download, but it never seems to finish. I'm still having the force close issue when trying to open settings to connect to some open wifi sources.
I have a strange problem with the wifi speed on my prime and any wireless device for that matter. On my hard wired PC I can get over 100mbps but on my wireless laptop and prime I get a Max of 2.03mbps. Has anyone else expirienced this or knows how to fix it? Thanks

Had the same problem. It is an issue with the WPA2 protocol. Try WAP only and you should be fine.

Did that result in better speeds?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
Yes. I was seeing the same problem on my Droid Incredible and both of our TFP's. As soon as I switched away from WPA2, I was getting the same speeds as my laptop's. The odd thing was upload speed was unaffected but DL speed was kept around 2mbps

I just switched and the speeds didn't change. Maybe its my ISP.

What router are you using? Mine was a Netgear. Also try disabling encryption all together and cycling your router. I assume you used SpeedTest on your TPS as well as on your laptop/desktop to determine speeds?

I'm using my brand new net gear N600 dual band router.

You may want to check the netgear forums. I have heard lots of negative feedback on that router because of firmware.

With the pure fact your Wifi is effected on your Laptop but not your PC that is hard-wired connected does point to either the router or wireless reception in general.
Do you notice any difference in speed if you place yourself directly next to the router but as you wander further away the signal decreases in strength?
If so you need to look at a lot of possible issues:-
1. The router itself ~ try using a different model.
2. Interference ~ this can really hamper and slow wireless reception somewhat. Check what other equipment you have in the vicinity that also uses the wirless protocol. You could have another piece of hardware interfering with your reception.
I had an issue where if I stood in one particular place in my home my wireless signal terminated. I found the problem was to do with my Microwave cooker when switched on was interfering with my wifi signal.
3. Walls ~ a wall will absorb wireless signals. The less walls the better. Also don't believe just because I only have one wall I should be okay. It matters how thick the wall is and if there is any electrical or other material placed inside the wall.
There are other things you could check but this is a good starting block to go with.
I've found that channel interference can cause these kinds of issues.
Check out the Market app "Wifi Analyzer", it displays all the AP's in your vicinity and if they're overlapping each other.
I switched a friend's router from auto to channel 11 and her speed tests quadrupled.
But radio communication is a complicated beast...
Found the issue. My ISP is only giving me 2.00mbps. Looks like I'll have yo upgrade that. The 100+mbps on wired connection was the "theoretical speed" I think its called. I ran a speed test on wired and yeilded the same slow speed

Has anyone had any luck getting Pdanet tablet to work? It connects to my HTC Inspire AT&T phone but no data is sent. I have used pdanet to tether my laptops to this phone before so I know the phone can tether.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
See the lost tether after ics update thread, various apps worked for some and not others, i was using pdanet tablet as well , then after the update it no longer worked , same problem as you , it would connect but not transmit if that makes any sense, someone suggested i try android wifi tether app, generic name i know, but it worked and i no longer have to fool around with bt pairing.
That said its hit and miss which app will work for you so try that app and search for the thread i mentioned for a further solution if that isn't working for you .

Hey, I used to have a Moto Q that I was able share my internet connection via Bluetooth with a laptop. Is there anyway to do that with the ATP? I have a rooted Samsung SG2 that hopefully I could use. BTW the ATP is rooted too.
Thanks

weird. mine is working fine, at least you know its something that can be fixed.
WiFi working on all my devices running Android 4.1.+
Try forgetting and rescan and reconnect. Sometimes that will help

As above.....also router security settings might be causing a problem, I had that, in fact most Wi-Fi problems with the S3 seem to be router side from my observations, but that is just my humble opinion
On my old HTC HD2 after a Rom upgrade it wouldn't detect WiFi networks on channel 13. Our router was just on that channel. In the phone's WiFi settings go to Advanced and you should see something like channel range. Best of luck

Wi-Fi analyser can be handy for seeing what's going on channel-wise
