You know what you really need to do is do the research yourself, post in the correct section for a question and basically decide what you want from the Rom.
In my opinion for speed you should go for one of the cm Roms although on latest jelly bean versions there is no official support from Samsung so the Rom lack in features you get from a Samsung Rom.
You can safely download and enjoy roms from all the big names in outer forum, they are all slightly different, be it aesthetically or through their features. Try the original section as a starting point, do some reading, some flashing and trying of differ things and make your own mind up on what you like.

Just try the ROMs yourself, pretty simple/basic and much easier than creating a thread and waiting for enough responses to matter

If you want to stay close to stock as possible you should go with the CF-root method. Its pretty easy too.
Clockwork recovery is a custom recovery for your phone that enables you to do restoration, maintenance, installation, upgrades operations that your default recovery can't.
You should go for CyanogenMod 7.1 ROM and check it out as it seems to be the most stable mod around , plus it's updated regularly... Altough I would suggest you get a little bit more accustomed to your phone first...
i came across the Cyanogen Mod but it's just that with so much custom ROMs options i couldn't decide which is best

Once you flash your first custom ROM, you'll probably find yourself using it for about 2 or 3 hours then decide to flash an another one cuz you don't like it Just try a few of them and see which one suits you best. There are really some good ones out there , plus its fairly easy and fast to flash them. Good luck
thanks for the info.. i'll experiment a couple of custom ROMs to see what suits me best lol
hey guys.
i ve rooted yesterday because i wanted to flash a better kernel than the stock one. now my question:
which kernel should i flash?
i need good performence with no lags and so on..
but a good battery live !!
please help me
You're going to have to try out different kernels & see which one(s) work best for you. Nobody uses the phone the same way as you, has the same phone setup or even components manufactured exactly the same way.
Go to the development sections & check the threads for the different kernels & read up on the features of each/the ones that interest you.
There are no shortcuts.
If you want something that *just works* without any effort on your part, you should have stuck with stock :-|
Stock may be better as kernels make claims but reality may be different .
Performance battery life sort your phone and its usage out first .

No Kernel is "best", it all depends on your device.
I keep on hearing about Stock ROM, Custom ROM and Official ROM's. What is the difference? Why there are so many ROM's for the same phone?

its all about the variety and customization. different people have different taste.
stock/official == released by samsung via kies or updates.
custom === modded stock roms with different themes/tweaks/apps
CM roms are based on offical android, the type you find on Google Android handest, and are optimised for performance with a shed load of features.
Samsung roms are based on stock, often with bloatware removed and optimised for performance, like packing new kernels, deodexing, zipaligning, busybox not to mention root. They will also have additional functionality over stock samsung in the form of mods.
Try them out, you'll notice the biggest difference with Cyanogenmod roms compared to stock samsung based roms.
Wouldn't be surprised if this thread is closed, but hope that helps nonetheless

Point to note both custom roms and root void warranty and would need removing before returning to a service centre if needs be .

You know you are rooted when spend more time flashing roms than using your phone.
You know you are on a custom rom when you spend more time on XDA asking variouse questions than spending time with your family
You know you are on a shipped stock rom of your phone when you eat on time sleep on time keep tablets away...
Just joking

Please can you people suggest me a good stable ROM (ICS/JB) based. My requirements are the following
1. Stable
2. Good Battery LIfe
3. Good Support from developer
4. Regular updates from the same maker without having to wipe and stuff(i dont have the patience to keep backing up and keep loosing my patient's data, plus i want the same apps)
i have heard of some : omega rom, criskelo rom, check rom...
Please suggest me the best guys. :good:
Best ROM posts are not allowed on xda.
read through the OP of ROM threads and make your decision.
If you want stability than use touchwiz based ROMs.
I have said too much already.......
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
nothing is the best in the world
go try all of them and use the 1 suit you most
Here is the list ..
Dont flash anything until you understand how to .

Hi..I did a search but i am completely confused and bewildered by the vast amount of different posts and opinions in threads..so i apologise if this has broken any rules.
Basically i have a stock s3 i9300 (uk) with original samsung jellybean 4.3 rom,I am getting a bit sick of it now (and the bloat) and i am looking to move on to something more appealing..I have already rooted and installed Rom Manager and CWM..i was wondering what the "Best Simplistic dark themed (small footprint) rom" to go for As i want minimal installed size to make the most of my 16gb memory,i dont mind which android version as long as the process is easy and the battery life is among the best available..And of course it is as stable as my current Samsung android rom..
i would really appreciate any valued veteran guidance..many thanks.
