Guys,
Just a quick question, I bought a sim free S3, and would like to update to 4.1.2. Do I download the BTU version as I didn't buy the phone from a carrier?
Also, what does BTU stand for?
Thanks in advance

Yep BTU will work fine.
But if you aren't rooted, wait a few hours and it will come OTA

Hey guys,
I lost my phone in Paris around 3 weeks ago while I was on a group tour of Europe. I am still waiting for my tour manager to send me a lost property form (as the French police wouldn't give me a lost/stolen report within 24 hours) and want to buy another phone. I am in London at the moment and am looking to buy a new Galaxy S2. I was wondering if all Galaxy S2s are the same – as I want it to work on the Vodafone network in Australia (Melbourne). I'm guessing I am likely to find a GT-I9100 (and not a GT-I9100T, as I had previously).
So the question is, will any Galaxy S2 work on the Vodafone network in Australia or do I have to buy a specific model (i.e. GT-I9100T)?
Thanks,
Jack.
Should do, yes. Will have to be unlocked to work on Australian networks though.
if both are gsm and if its unlocked ,then yes.
just go for the international version of i9100 , you should be ok.
since you are buying an international model with (non carrier locked) should work with any networks, no need of any unlocking.
I can confirm the opposite worked for me, lost my phone due to a night out in Melbourne on the Absinthe, bought a new phone out there and used it back in the UK after getting it unlocked no problems (On Telstra in Aus > T-Mobile UK)
But as others have said, fairly sure most models you get here are unlocked due to the international model.
Are you going to buy from somewhere like Carphone Warehouse/shop, or eB*y? You can get sGS2 off there for £260-£280 at the minute.
Why don't you wait two weeks and buy the s3!?

I know on note cpw has its own firmware on it despite being unbranded
Question has anyone got a sim free cpw s3 has the latest update been pushed out is it truly unbranded or is it cpw own?

Anyone apart from the Uk and Vodaphone customers got the message to update firmware?
Im uk and on 3 and got it
Not sure if you meant uk/vodafone or uk and vodafone so posted anyway!
Is this a new update or the one which came out last week for unlocked uk? whats the version?

They must be doing it via IMEI as I'm on 3 and don't see any update and mine was a pre-ordered handset on uk release.
Seemingly weeks ago Samsung released an update for the international SIII that fixes some issues and adds a brightness setting to the notification menu. It has yet to be released for the Hong Kong version. I've checked OTA everyday and even check Kies yet nothing.
Any idea when it will be released?
You could always flash the latest update to your phone using ODIN.
Not sure if this is relevant but I have an Australian unbranded S3 and got the new firmware notification while in Hong Kong last week.

If the Australian unbranded S3 gets a new update, the phone will be able to update itself regardless of its geographic location. Galaxy S3s have CSC and firmware depending on various factors such as carriers and the country that the phone is purchased in. Both CSC and firmware can be changed. Mine was changed from an unbranded Romanian firmware to unbranded UK firmware. The CSC was changed as well. Now I get updates as they are released in the UK.

I'm on O2 with 510 out of the box, no update available. Europe is at least a month behind eastern territories as they work out bugs before releasing.

Mega annoyed... They haven't branded any of my smartphones before. Stayed on it for now as was able to remove most stuff without root. Will consider unbranded once flashing procedure is more stable.

yeah all my previous smartphones never had o2 branding before as well was shocked tho that they did so on the ZU
The branding is done directly from Sony. The branding can be changed with a three line change in the build prop, and then a restore in Sony PC Companion, its the easiest unbranding I have ever done.

You need root to mess with the build.prop, or just change the one on your phone with the one included below, make sure the permissions are the same and then restart the phone, open Sony PC Companion and repair your phone, it will reflash with the stock unbranded firmware.
