So has anyone yet got the much reported Premium Suite? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm guessing it won't drop automatically to rooted phones with custom roms.
Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk.

Trying to update via Kies. Update notification but computer doesn't seem to want to download firmware.

Beacuse its rooted
Try flashing stockrecovery first..

Thought might have been cos of that but was previously rooted and still manage to update to ICS.

Just download 4.1.2, it is being rolled out now, we have Polish, German and UK at least now.
And no it will not drop automatically if you have custom firmware, you will need to flash via Odin.

From what i read the premium suite is just a fancy name for all the features the lastest 4.1.2 official roms already have. No point in waiting for the "official" kies update. If you're rooted, just pick up mobile odin, flash the latest and be done with in less than 5 minutes. It most likely won't even delete anything from your phone, mine never did

Firmware update via Kies gone bad

Hi all,
ive tryed to make a firmware update on the tab, but when i do so it says i need to do it via Kies, when i try do it via Kies it crashes.
Only thing ive done with the Tab is rooted it and installed pershoots kernel on it.
Any help would be appriciated.
cheers dalhoff
Sorry but if you rooted it (+ CWM I presume) you can't receive any official updates from Samsung regarding your tab.
Kies is of no use to you now and updating your tab should be done flashing new(er) builds through CWM.
For that I would recommend CM9, however CM didn't officially announce their release yet but there is a KANG out (I think you know). Check the DEV thread.

Yes he can, he only has to flash a stock firmware with Odin and it'll work.
will that not bring him back to stock though without root thus having his flashed kernel reflashed by stock?
The whole point of his rooting I read
But you are right, then you're back in the land of stock roms
isn't it the goal when using kies, to go "stock" or to get the latest "stock" update?
thx for the reply, well i dont wanna go back stock so i guess i have to flash it tru cwm
Then try a custom rom, you won't be disapointed!
I'm running Task 13.1 slim and it's wayyy better than stock!

Question before upgrading to ICS (updates comming March 10th)

well, i have an GS2 rooted (android 2.3.4) and sim unlocked with Galaxy S Unlocker.
if i upgrade to ICS when its released, do i loose root?
if I loose root, SuperOneClick will still work if my GS2 is ICS or do i need to wait to an update of SUperOneClick (to supor GS2 with ICS) to root my device again?
well, those are my questions.
thanks in advance.

1) Of course you'll lose root if you go back to stock.
2) Ask whomever developed SuperOneClick if it will work with ICS.

Or you can wait for an ICS custom ROM ...
Hi,
I've rooted my S2 with CF-Root 4.1 and I'm using a 2.3.5 SamFirmware ROM.
Can I just update over KIES when ICS comes out? Will the Kernel be replaced and what Files will be erased?

If you have a rooted rom, if I remember well, Kies won't update your firmware... You have to use ODIN...
ok so just to make this 100% clear (i am a complete noob and i always make stupid questions, so flaming is accepted )
I have a Galaxy S2 with just rooted firmware (XWKJ1). I used an insecure version of this firmware to root the phone following the Odin/CF Root guide. Also I am not using any custom made rom like CM for example... If I upgrade my phone through Kies when the ICS update rolls out will I be able to complete the process succesfully?
Also from what I understand if the update procedure is completed succesfully I will lose root and will have to do the whole process all over again... Is there an insecure firmware matching the ICS firmware that will replace my old one?
Thanks in advance for your help...

You may get offered the ICS update via KIES only time will tell .

Unless the ICS firmware you upgrade to is already rooted, then yes. You will lose root.
Just try Resurrectio Remix v9.6 by westcrip. Its the best ics rom right now.

It was never guaranteed to be released worldwide on a single day anyways. Can you imagine the millions of I9100 users all trying to download the official ICS update via Kies at the same time? Their servers would have an aneurysm.
It would surely have been reposted for download though. Also, it was posted in various languages including English speaking Samsung sites.
I know that it is what it is and there's little point now, but I haven't had my ***** about it yet, except to my wife who is fairly confused about why this is such a disappointment for me.
Now I've had my little ***** attack about it not happening and will maintain it to this.
I dont understand why its such a big deal to get the update. Why not just flash a custom rom?

I've been squeamish after many GB ones had serious issues, for example we'd forgotten our camera when my second kid was born by cesarian and I had a sleep of death on the phone - was doing a Nandroid restore of stock 10 minutes prior to entering the operating room. It saved the day.
That said, I flashed a custom ROM right after that last post and it's been really impressive. I haven't yet found an issue with it. Everything seems to be working really well and the battery life might even be a little better than the GB ROM I was using though it's still to early to say.
I get annoyed with all the banners and the immediate back patting when there's a new RoM that hasn't even been tested, but just to answer the question some people might be asking about which one I was impressed with, it was Resurection Remix. It also happens, thogh, to be the first one I flashed that was a Samsung based ROM opposed to AOSP.
It is still annoying though. I suspect Samsung is merely manufacturing their own hype about this, intentionally, and that is irritating.

[Q] Updating from an (rooted) branded to an unbranded ICS?

I will be using Odin to update, because my current version (2.3.3) is rooted. I would like to upgrade to 4.0.3, but I don't know whether to use a branded firmware or not because I don't live in France anymore, and I don't need a branded phone.
Also, is updating to 4.0.3 worth it, or does it drain the battery life like when you update your iOS to a newer version.
yes, updating is worth it beccause you get better batery life depending on what apps are running in the back ground.
you do not need to use a branded app for 4.0.3 their are unbranded stock or customized roms. Yolu will need to experiment till you find one that you like.

Hi there! So, I have found a custom ROM like (Mystic's Glory), but I was wondering whether I can update/flash it directly using Odin, or if I need to update it to the official ICS, then flash the custom rom? Excuse my newbiness.
You can flash your chosen rom directly via odin if it's in a tar. file format. Or flash it via CWM if it's in a zip file format. Be sure to carry out full wipes and format system to ensure a clean installation. Ideally follow installation guide for your chosen rom. Oh and make a back up before you start.

help me update my s3 pls?

Hi every one.
Got my s3 when it launched & rooted it with odin using the unlocked kernel? Can't remember exactly ?
My phone keeps telling me there is a software update, but it fails when I try install.
Looking for some advice on what I should do to update it. But obviously I don't want to lose root access.
Also jelly bean is due soon & I'm just wondering whether to wait till then?
Im currently using a stock Rom I think?
I really like the way I have it set up at the min & I'd like to keep it as close to how it is now on jelly?
Can you make a custom Rom from my phone & put it to jelly when it's released.
Any help or advice would be great.
Cos I'm totally lost to be honest?
there was a member who had a problem like this.
1-)people suggested him to flash a stock rom update it and root it again. ( of course do a nandroid backup or titanium backup )
then there will be no problems.
2-) you can choose to flash any available rom for your s3. directly put it in your internal sd and flash with cwm.
you can search that in forum.
P.S: Roms are for use of everybody, you can select what you want to install ( you dont need to search a Rom made for your phone )
OTA's don't work of you are rooted and running a custom recovery.
Flash the latest stock ROM via Odin and root it, but you won't get official OTA's when you are rooted.

So flash back stock kernel through odin , update it & then re-root?
Can jb be rooted yet?
I might wait till jb is released officially, it's due in a few days isn't it?
Thanks for the reply guys but I'm still a bit unsure what I'm doing tbh .
I always take my time doing stuff like this cos I don't want to brick my phone?

Current firmware not supported to update through kies

Ive heard recently that sgs3 is soon to be receiving the 4.3 update, skipping 4.2.2 all together. 2 questions.
1. Apparently my current firmware isn't supported to update via kies, meaning I can't check for updates via kies. Was running cm10.1 nightlys then decided to re flash stock back onto the device. So im running official 4.1 touchwiz with stock kernel.
And 2. Will this update be available over the air since kies doesn't want to work? I mean it should right? I am on stock now so I don't see why not? Thanks guys all help appreciated

did you follow the guide to get back to stock conditions? including non-modifed status etc.? usually KIES should even work with root, just removes root after the update though.
I guess the easiest, and maybe fastest bet would be to just download the update once on sammobile or here on xda and flash via Odin.
