I updated a rom via goo manager. when I tried to reboot, nothing reboots at all. The only mode I can get in is TWRP, but I cannot find any sd card or files to flash. I canot get into web os, only web os recovery and twrp.
How do I get my touchpad back?
I cannot locate acmeinstaller2.zip., they are just bin files I think.
I am going out of town tomorrow. Please help me if you can, and idiots guide or something.
Thanks in advance.
What do you have?

What did you upgrade to?
Had you made any backups and if so are they not available?

I did titanium backup. I upgraded to an AOKP build, and it messed up my whole tp. I can only boot to TWRp, but I do not see any fles or SD card....

I recommend you read the whole thread its 18 pages BEFORE proceeding.

what type of computer are you running , its a .jar file so its opened with java..
You can try ACMEUninstaller which will remove Android and moboot and should allow you back into WebOS where you can access your files. Or try WebOS doctor which will remove moboot and get you back into WebOS, but you may have to run ACMEUninstaller afterwards before you run ACMEInstaller3.

If you follow this guide carefully (there are a lot of commands to type in), it will eventually take you webOs doctor 3.0.0. Once that's done, you can do an OTA update to 3.0.5. Then install android again, using ACMEInstaller3. In the guide, if you're having trouble with novaterm, there's a good work around on page 12.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426244
It's the same link sstar gave you. It works, you just have to be careful with the commands.
Answer yes to all the questions at the beginning.
Good luck.

I always just copy and paste, never typed in the commands. Now my TP does not do anything except have the HP logo. When I get it into recovery and run WebosDoctor, it kicks me out at 8%. I am stuck now, no TWRP anymore, nothing ny suggestions????

Make sure to charge the tp for a few hours, using the stock charger. You don't want to run out of power now.
Are you pasting the commands one at a time, hitting enter after each one?
If you are and it's not working, then I'm out of ideas. You can try the webOs nation forum and search for webOs doctor 8%, I remember reading something about this there.
Good luck.

I coppied the whole block at once, not 1 at a time.
Do they have to be done 1 at a time? Could you please post all the lines I need to post including the 2 additional steps.....?
I really appreciate it.

Here's the link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426244
The workaround for novaterm (the 2 other commands) is on page 12.
READ the whole thread carefully, make sure you understand it. Best way to learn.

Now what?
Ok, let's see if we can get your tablet running.
Follow the instructions, carefully, from the thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426244
Once you get to the novaterm part, if you have any problems, this is where you put the two other commands. But if you don't have problems, don't use them, and continue following the guide.
The commands all have to be done 1 at a time, hitting enter after each one. Answer yes to the questions at the beginning. Make sure that each command is executed before going to the next command.
Basically what you're doing is repartitioning your TP and starting fresh. You're deleting and then creating folders.
If you're doing as the guide says, and you keep getting errors, it's beyond me. Maybe someone else can step in with the solution.
Good luck.
Edit : copy and paste the commands, that way you make sure that you get them right.

Are you downloading and running the recovery uimage?
As in novacom boot mem:// < nova-installer-image-topaz.uImage
(this is step 5 in the guide)
After this step you try and open novaterm. If you have any problems, this is where you put the two other commands (that gets you to the root of the tp), then you paste each command and hit enter. Then follow the rest of the guide. If you keep getting errors, it's beyond me - maybe someone will have a solution.

I did a search, and nothing seems to pop up, then again there are many ways to describe what the title says so it very well could be here and my searching ability just sucks.
I've noticed that UMS under CM9 is slow as hell with my external card, sub 1meg but when I plug it into my computer out of the phone, I pull 8+ MBs transfers (Class 10 card) I've discovered ADB works extremely well and is quite fast. The problem I'm running into is that I'm trying to transfer folders that have spaces in them. Using Windows and Command Prompt it interprets the space as "Insert next command" clearly it's not. Is there a way to have the ADB Pull/Push command work with folders that have a space in the filename?
I.E. I have a band I like called "Dark Moor" I have a folder called "Dark Moor" rather than rename the folder on the computer for transfer then rename on the Android and vice versa, I would like to do something like "adb pull /sdcard/music/Dark Moor /Dark Moor" clearly it doesn't recognise this as acceptable.
Simply type the path quoted, like this:
Code:
adb pull "path/with spaces/xD"

Tried that. On Windows 7 it gives me an error about a nonexistant directory or invalid command.

Hmm... look my attachment, I have no errors
Yea. I was an idiot. I didn't do the quotes. That worked this time around. For some reason I read your comment as "type what's in the quotes." Looks like my brain is fried this Friday! Leaving the office before I do damage to my work network. Thanks man!

What I'd like to do is be able to have a service that will backup files stored on /sdcard & /emmc from my phone. I'd like to be able to set which subfolders of /sdcard & /emmc should be backed up to the cloud.
I've tried a few but I seem to have some problems that make them unsuitable.
SugarSync & Dropbox only reads from /sdcard
Box.net reads from both /sdcard & /emmc but you can't select folders to backup
Wuala I can't figure out how to upload files from mobile.
Any recommendations?

webdav enables the upload folder to box.net (market demand)
I use an app called FolderSync that does exactly what you want. There is a free & paid version in the market. I've been using it and backing up to Box for the past 2 months & no issues so far!

I've been using it since long... I've got the paid version. It never gave me any prob and does exactly what you want it to do. You can set automatic as well as manual syncronization.
I've got a 50GB Box.net account. Got it for free. It's really handy.
Another option, that's free, is your own PC. Why pay for exotic solutions to simple problems?
I use a program called GSyncit (it's paid) that synch's Outloook to my PC, I have a manual backup of all my music on my PC, and photo's can be easily copied to your PC. The connection to your PC is going to be faster, and arguably most importantly, there are no strange TOS issues with my PC. Who knows if the cloud your using will be hacked, or crash or have other issues. As my phone is connected to my PC every night to charge anyway, it's easy to make periodic backups.
The likelihood of both my PC and Phone dying at the same moment is very slim, and even with that, my phone data is duplicated on two different drives.
I just installed Max Payne on my phone and now it keeps telling me I have low storage. When I check my programstorage it says "1.4 GB used and 2.4GB free" and then I go to media storage it says "7.1 GB used and 800MB free" so why the **** does it keep saying I have low storage when it doesn't automaticlly go to programstore? Isn't this phone supposed to have 7GB of internal storage? How can I get rid of it?
I have no idea where the "trip point" is on the warnings, but have you tried moving some of the media off the phone (500MB should do it) and see if the warning goes away?
I store between 15-52GB of music on my external SD. I get no warnings. It just works.
Can you post the output of a "df -h" command (using adb, connectbot, sshdroid, etc)? It's a linux computer, and they all provide lots of tools to diagnose and fix pretty much any possible problem.
Example output (.181 GB, 64GB external SD):

The problem is not music. The games and apps I install does not go directly to the SD card, I dont know why and I have downloaded the "APP2SD" program to move them to the external sdcard but there is no such option. They all go to media storage and I am running out of storage on that piece of **** place
You can change where/how filesystems mount, but you'll have to learn to use Linux and work from a command line. There's no poke-n-smile answer to your dilemma. yet.
Remember: It's just a telephone.
And this is not fixed in ICS?
I should have traded this piece of crap for SGS3...

Moving app to SD is handled by Android. App 2 SD app only provides an UI for you to manage it. Currently, Android only supports the primary external storage (i.e. internal USB storage) for App 2 SD. If you have two external storages, the external SD card usually is the secondary external storage. Android only moves apps to the primary external storage.

Possible to change that?
Same here, I installed Max Payne today and started getting low storage warnings. Yet I still have 4500 MB of free space... Starting to think Max Payne app has something to do with it...

I don't think there is some problem with the game but there is some serious problems with the phones storage system...
It's Linux. You can change everything about the filesystems, where they mount, what they mount, when they mount it. But you have to do it, there isn't any smearware for doing this, and being lazy/petulant won't get it done any faster than blaming the phone is doing now.
Google /etc/fstab.
You'd have a different problem with the Samsung. It would be a "POS" too, no doubt, but in a different sub-forum. So there's that.

EDIT: I also found this one! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slf.ListglApp&hl=sv
You're the one who posted because your telephone is so full of games that it's warning of low space. You say the phone is a piece of crap, presumably because its software designers did not design it for the purpose YOU intended - a purpose so lame and unexpected that nobody has created an app yet to handle it.
There are apps out there to do every stupid thing humanly imaginable, and app developers are breaking ground in the gut-wrenchingly-retarded-tasks arena. Yet this task is not covered...
Has it occurred to you that maybe, just maybe, you have too many games installed?
You can back them up and uninstall them... It only takes 2 minutes to restore ShadowGun, and that's a good-sized game.
Uf.... Take a happy pill. You don't have to come to the forum if it makes you nervous. Just say NO .
I can confirm that this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slf.ListglApp&hl=sv
Works perfectly if you are rooted. No more "Insufficient space" notification.
Another thing to look for is how many safestrap backups you have. I got the same warning. I had 4 backups on the internal storage, and at 1.2-1.6 gb a pop, they eat up your storage real quick. The gingerbread backups were the biggest.

From what I can. Work out its the storage on the external memory card. I have a 16gb but only 467mb left so I get the same warning.
If I put a clean one in I don't get it I think the warning is at around 500mb or 1gb

Dear fellow XDA members,
I have run into a problem that I am not really sure of what to do with.
Basically, the problem is this: on my sgs2 gt-i9100 running slimbean (happened on PA 2.10, too, though), My external SD card is being read 3 times by apps such as winamp. It would encounter a song 3 times and list it 3 times because of this.
This is because my card has been mounted to 3 points.Or rather, mounted to /storage/sdcard1 and symlinked twice. I think. The biggest issue is that 2 of 3 cannot be read by any app. They'll list the songs but refuse to play them. Only /storage/sdcard1 works as it should.
Now for me my most obvious option is to remove the symlinks since all apps seem to be fine with the /storage/sdcard1 itself. I did a rm -rf /mnt/extSdCard and also for /extSdCard, but they keep coming back. I looked at vold.fstab but apart from that, I have no idea where to look.
Another thing I should note is that (/mnt)/extSdCard have lrwxrwxrwx rights, but the actually working /storage/sdcard1 has d---rwxr-x.
If anyone could even point me in the right direction, that'd be great. Thank you for your time.
Edit: the symlinks came back every reboot.
Vold.fstab mounts the SD to /storage/sdcard1
Edit 2: I added the rm commands to init.rc, but it doesn't seem to be working.
Edit 3: Winamp is now listing all the songs 4 times. I'm figuiring out where the new link is.

Thank you for your quick answer.
I have cleaned cache/data and uninstalled winamp to be sure, and installed and ran media scanner root. I then installed winamp. Sadly, to no avail. It still lists all the songs 4 times, of which only 1 plays. The same goes for other apps that list media, such as Sleep As Android.
I also just now found where the symlinks are being made: /init.smdk4210.rc, but deleting the symlink operations does not help; the file is somehow restored and the symlinks re-made after the reboot. I also haven't been able to find out where the new, 4th symlink is, yet.

Deleting sym links will not work since they will be recreated by the kernel on boot.
To resolve this clear data for Media Storage and reboot. Run the Media scanner and wait for Media Storage to reindex all the media files. Time for scan will depend on how many media files and recursive directories you have on your SD card so please be patient during the first scan.

Thank you, I did this just after rm -rf'ing the symlinks, and it worked! Not sure if after the reboot it'll scan for media on the symlinks, but atleast I have a workaround.
I finally found a way to not have my apps killed all the time!
I am using a device with 2 GB of ram (Nexus 7 2013) and I experienced frequently that apps are killed. Quite often it gets so bad that it's impossible to have both dekko and the browser open at the same time. It always felt like it was an out of memory situation. Today I stumbled over this remark of ShadowEO on his github page to configure the lowmemorykiller. In my experience, I need two other tweaks in addition. So in total I did the following three things:
Increase the swappiness
Checking with
Code:
dstat --top-oom --top-mem --vmstat -s 30
and
Code:
tail -f /var/log/syslog | grep sigkill
I see which app the out-of-memory killer (oom) considers for killing and I see when that app is being killed. Also, I see that even though there is swap space available, it isn't being used. In order to make the system actually use the available swap space I increased the swappiness from 0 to 70:
Code:
cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
0
echo 70 | sudo tee /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
Increase swapspace
Now the swap is being used, but it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of a difference with the killing, so I increase the size of the swapspace.
Out of the box, if I remember it correctly, I only had 32 MB of swap:
Code:
swapon -s
The swap file being /userdata/SWAP.img. I increased it to 2 GB following these tips:
Code:
sudo swapoff /userdata/SWAP.img
sudo rm /userdata/SWAP.img
sudo fallocate -l 2g /userdata/SWAP.img
sudo mkswap /userdata/SWAP.img
sudo chmod 0600 /userdata/SWAP.img
sudo swapon /userdata/SWAP.img
Configure the lowmemorykiller
Now a little more of the swap is being used, but it still doesn't stop the killing. Seems on Android there is something called lowmemorykiller, which on my Nexus 7 had this original configuration:
Code:
cat /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree
1536,2048,4096,16384
Where 16384 pages (4k each) corresponds to 16384*4/1024 = 64 MB. So, seems that once the free memory drops below 64MB, the killing starts. Inspired by ShadowEO's tip, I set it:
Code:
echo "1536,2048,4096,5120,10240,15360" | sudo tee /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree
which corresponds to 20 instead of 64 MB. (I also set the last two levels to 40 and 60 MB - don't know whether that is needed.)
With all three things in place, I can now have the browser, dekko, podbird, filemanager, unav, uradio playing music, terminal and gedit and libreoffice writer running from libertine all open at the same time. I'm almost running out of apps that I care to run in addition
At times there was some stuttering, but of course nobody forces you to have so many apps open at the same time. However, now you can choose what you want to close to relieve the memory pressure Swappiness and lowmemorykiller I need to repeat after every reboot. Need to find a solution to persist this.
I'd be curious to hear whether/how this works for other people!
I'm running this now for a couple of weeks without noticing any obvious problems caused by these settings (actually I'm running swappiness=100)
Just now I figured out another aspect: The browser does a very aggressive unloading of inactive tabs. The bugreport here suggests that this unloading is related to a percentage of free memory.
By doing
Code:
echo $[ 300 * 1024 ] | sudo tee /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes
My expectation is that it should keep 300 megabytes of free memory (which of course is a waste). It seems to actually keep some 600+ mb free and after testing this for all of 5 minutes I can successfully listen to a youtube video playing in an inactive tab, while writing this post in another tab!

Ok that was easy. Put the two lines
Code:
echo 100 > /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
echo "1536,2048,4096,5120,10240,15360" > /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree
into /etc/rc.local. I don't dare to put the min_free_kbytes setting in there just yet.

There is this OpenStore (I can't add link, google it 'OpenStore ubuntu') which have very nice app (UT Tweek tool) for tweeking the UT. It allows to prevent killing apps and it can be set per app, so no more annoying termination of i.e. terminal scripts when you switch the apps or youtube music kill. By this method you need no reentering of the code after every reboot and you have quite granular control over killing or not killing automatically the apps.

Yeah, I know it, and I use it, but to the best of my understanding that applies to a different kind of killing. I think the suspension itself doesn't actually terminate any process. It just freezes it. So with the UT tweak tool the process continues executing even when you switch to another app, which is indeed a good first step (yt playing in the background).
But there is another form of killing going on where UT seems to very aggressively try to keep some memory free and actually terminates a process. What is left is an a bit blurry picture of the last state of the app, that is shown in the task switcher and when you switch back. Then the app is restarted and its the job of the app to restore the state it was in previously.
My experience was that when I write an email and I'm switching to the browser to check something and back, the email app had been killed. It takes a few seconds to load and it doesnt perfectly restore the state (half written email, cursor position, selected text). Same the other way around. I'm typing a forum post but want to check that link I had in that email. Browser was killed, restarts, which takes a couple of seconds, and the halftyped posting is gone.
so no more annoying termination of i.e. terminal scripts when you switch the apps

true, with the terminal I didnt have the problem of actually be killed so often. The script you had running has just been suspended. You can revive it by typing fg, or use uttt as you suggested.

So, are you saying, with the uttt settings, you have no trouble using email and browser at the same time? Switching back and forth? Switching btw tabs in the browser? How much RAM does your device have?
Hi!
Sadly in the aquaris E5 ubuntu edition(That I own) the SWAP is in a partition, so isn't so easy to expand it. I create a second swap in a file but isn't persistent after a reboot.
Interesting. Where did you create the swapfile? What exactly isnt persisted? Is it just not used anymore or does the file go away? How did you attempt to persist it? In rc.local?
