Hi from Australia.
One of the three battery connector fingers has broken off in my HD2, rendering it useless. Telstra, as per usual, refuses to do anything about it under warranty and wants just under $400 to fix it. So I have a number of questions.
1) This appears to be a design flaw. Has anyone else had this problem?
2) Is there documentation to show how to pull the phone apart?
3) Does anyone know if the pcb that the battery fingers are on is available anywhere, except from HTC?
4) Does anyone know of a company that might fix this problem without it costing as much as a new phone?
Thanks in advance.

A workaround for the time being would be to get an external battery charger, you get one built in to most cradles. You can pick them up for ~£10 on eBay and you can also pick up a spare battery for £5.
I know it's not an ideal solution but for ~£15 it may well see you though until you can get the problem sorted.
Hi all !
Yes my hd2 freezes a LOT when it gets very hot while charging and also when i start it sometimes it vibrates 6 times and freezes without loading the system so if ther' any solution for that ? i installed the last GTX rom and also i did test the latest stock T-mobile rom with the radio 2.14.50.04 nothing changes it's freezing a lot.
Thanks in advance.
two possibilities:
1. one of you battery connectors might be bent (I've seen few threads on this issue here on xda)
2. faulty mainboard (been there) - if you Leo is under warranty, restore it to stock settings and send for repair
in the meantime you might consider using Battclock for battery temperature monitoring, once it gets to "freeze zone" switch your Leo off for a while or - if desperate enough - put it in the refrigirator (5 minutes should be sufficient)

Thanks for your reply, i think the problem is coming from the copper pins as you said ( or connectors as you've said ), when i touch them the phone boots good, but it doesn't fix it i must always touch them and wait that the phones boots so, how can i fix thoses pins once and for all ?
Some users here reported freezings due to a bad Radio and ROM combination. Maybe you should downgrade to a different Radio and choose another (stock?) ROM?!

you could try to delicately straitghten the pins - I saw a thread on this somewhere here (here meaning xda/HD2 forum)
UP !
I still have those overheat issues i did verify the poins they are ok i did take it to a guy how fixes phones he told me he don't know ( i dont have a warranty ), if there any other solutions PLEASe help me...
Thanks in advance
We've had issues similar with the work HD2and it was resolved by replacing the battery.
How or why this came about was beyond me, but it must have been due to some of the idiots we employ playing about and not showing due care with the phone, so try a different battery, they are cheap enough

Ok i'll buy a new one and i'll try
between i saw a strange thing on the battery ( the battery is deformed at the top a small part ), the battery costs here more than 20$ so it's not that cheap here, but i'll buy it i hope it will fix the problem.
But tell me after buying your new battery the problem is fixed for good? no more overheating?
Thank you man for your anwser.
UP !
I did buy a new battyr today, no chan ges the problem is always the same....
so i very very sad after my last try, i must say now my hd2 is dead and with no warranty i can say Fu*k lol.
Thanks everyone for your help and i will never buy htc phones !
What actually happen? I would keep trying and if it won't turn on anymore. I would still try to claim warranty by htc. Maybe they are not gonna repare it to difficult. So they can't check for hspl. And then they maybe send you a new phone. As far as I know it doesn't cost your anything when they detect hspl. They just don't repair it.
Hey guys i want to know that what are the main symptoms of X10 faulty battery so that we should buy a new one ?
Hope most of you are aware of the problem, yes the ghost touches and partial touchscreen dead(1 cm above the touch buttons mostly in my case)
this is so annoying it happens mostly wen i am in urgent need...i have read many threads but nothing seemed to be working
i am using the sprint cdma version which i got shipped from the USA to INDIA and as there is n sprint store i have to deal with this problem on my own..
i love this phone and don't wanna lose it...neither do i want to spend much
as what i have realised this is not a hardware issue.... i am having hboot 1.5
s-off and locked..every thing stock
i have tried touchscreen booster also but nothing worked....
never dropped the phone and treat it like my baby...
plz someone help me...)
regards JOBAN
i hope this gets fixed as well. i was fortunate enough to have the ghost touches once out of my 9 or 10 months of having this phone
I wonder if it is really a hardware issue because when I used some of the ICS roms it never happens.... I only notice the touch issues when I use a stock based rom.
Mine doesn't happen too often but when it does its really annoying. I've tried to take it into sprint and have them fix the screen but the screen didn't act up when I took it in.... So the sprint techs wouldn't fix anything....
yesterday i did the line draw test when the screen was giving me problem...by *#*#3424#*#*
method... and the lower part of the screen acted weird... but in d morning the screen was okay and no issues were reported not even with the line draw test...
but i know the problem will come back...
and thnx for the reply guys..)
still fix needed... idk y there is no fix for the issue when so many people are facing the problem... maybe because almost ol of them have a nearby sprint store... i don't have one coz i am in INDIA.... so help me..)
???
no help..

Maybe your best bet is to either return it to where you bought it or send it in to HTC for repair... Although I can see its a bit tough shipping thins from India.
My friend had this same issue with his EVO 3D. He had to take it in to Sprint and they replaced the digitizer/lcd and bezel from another phone that was just returned. I guess if you are in India, you could look online to see how much one would cost to get shipped in.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
same problem, i too from india. i also got an spare touchscreen, but from fews day problem has not arisen.
btw, my friend just open my phone for changing touch screen, but was unable to change it, but what he has done is tighten the touch screen cable.
now i am not facing any issue. though its just an week. i am testing it.
tnx fo reply
Yea shipping is a major issue here in India... And HTC don't just replace the digitizer, the whole assembly costs 170 $ (converted from Indian rupees around 8000) ...so if nothing woods ill buy a digitizer from eBay.....
And tightened cable sounds good... But let's see if that works..
Maybe the problem is you and not your phone Cheerz!
hello joban,
I got your pm i thought it would be better to post here,
I was getting this ghost problem very frequently. It was like in every 15 to 30 minutes. I tried various roms but moreover it was more in sense.
I was very annoyed as i also have a small white spot.
so, i thought digitizer is an issue. I order one digiter from ebay. its took around 2 months to reach india. I was having a spare fascinate so i kept evo 3d aside till that time.
as i got my digitizer,
i gone to my friend, he is having a mobile shop, i told him that there is some touch problem so i need to change the digitizer. so, he opened my phone, then he disconnect all the cables (Which are very delicate tell him that that connecter will unlock from white side not from the brown side. as the connecter are of two colors brown from the back side and white from the front side.)
after that motherboard got separated. Lower part he said that it is very delicate as its will be difficult to assemble it back. He referred me to some other dude who can do that. he repair phones but basic phones & chinese phones.
he asked me the exact issue, i told me phone behaves weirdly. He said this problem is not with the touchscreen. something else is the problem.
he told me as if touchscreen problem arise it will not work or a specific part will not work.
now. he connected my motherboard back. tighten it. and told me to check.
LOL as this problem is not frequently.
I told him i will test it and let you know. He suggested as if in case problem arises again, he will just hot air the touch screen connecter area and nearby component.
(mann mein toh doubt rehta hi hai yaar , abhi bhi saala tension hai soch raha hu fatafat nikal dallu )
but believe me its been more then a week. I have not faced this issue yet. I am on viper rom, stock kernel. also uncheck on off crt animation as i have seen its having bit problem with sense. and sometimes it act weirdly due to which touch doesnt response, you need to lock and unlock again.
LOL my spare touchscreen is eating dust now.
have you tried calibrating it with the htccalibrate app?

Hello there,
It seems my headunit have cooling problems. It is very hot and I have faced two times burning smell.
I'm wondering if there is a way to add a cooler on my unit, which has actually passive heating. Or maybe to underclock something.
My headunit is a JY-UQ130, quadcore based, 1024x600. Any suggestion ? Thanks

I just got a generic stick on heat sink and it seems to have helped my overheating problems, I wasn't having anything as severe as you, just reboots and lockups, nothing since adding the heat sink and the weather has been warmer. That one I linked to was large enough to cover the main chip and just about the 2 ram chips on the SOM board.
I added a heatsink and a 12V fan working at 5V (at 12V was too nosy) and problems have disappeared.

Thanks for your answers !
I'm living in France. Will try to find out a local reseller.
Do you have some photos to share ? I just want to know where to place heatsink and cooler.
How did you powered your cooler ? Usb or special connector on car wires ? And how did you fixed it ?
Thx !

Nothing powered, just the passive heatsink. Next time I open it up I will take some pictures.
Following your answers, I have ordered a 40x40x13 heatsink and adhesive pad :

Hope that will solve my burn smell issues ! If not, will try will an additionnal 40mm fan. More informations this week end
Hi there,
no news from my purchase for the moment. I am already waiting for my heatsink and adhesive pad ! More news later
Just to let you know I installed heatsink with thermal pad. I just needed to remove a black scotch at the bottom of the SOM, a little upon RK3188.
No issue at the moment, but temperatures are increasing in France right now. I hope my overheating issues and burning smell will go away now !
PS : touchscreen is really hot. Is this a known problem on RK3188 headunits ?

I have a RK3188 radio myself, although not your exact model, and I've noticed the touchscreen is slightly warm but not hot to the touch.
I also haven't heard of anything in the way of a burning smell, that doesn't sound right.
If it persists, you may wish to look into something like a heatsink with a fan on it, and/or a ventilation fan mod, like I sometimes see on some of the newer OEM or aftermarket double-DIM car radios. That's a lot of work to fix what may be a latent defect, however.
Also, if possible, maybe you can acquire or borrow a pyrometer and get an idea of how hot this radio is getting. Then get in contact with manufacturer and see if they have an idea if this is normal.
It sounds to me like something is wrong with your stereo.
Let us know.
Thanks for your answer.
Since last post, no burning smell nor reboot or something strange. Just this poor radio signal ^^
Waiting for hotter temperatures in France. For now, we had reached 25°C but no more. More news later this month
