Ok, I finally got my Otterbox Defender today. First impression is that it isn't exactly the way I thought it would be. I am not sure exactly what I was expecting but I know it wasn't quite what I got.
Pro: plastic shell feels pretty solid around phone and I really like the way the solid clear protector covers the whole screen it makes me feel a lot less worried about messing up my phone. The silicon/rubber outer sleeve holds the two halves of the hard shell together and gives a good grip. There is no way for it to fall out of the holster.
Con: my biggest complaint would be the silicone/rubber outer sleeve feels a bit sloppy. I would have expected it to be tighter, more exactly form fitting. The outer sleeve also picks up every piece of lint that comes it's way and because it is a black case white pocket lint shows very well. It is very difficult/awkward to remove from the holster, that may get better over time as out gets worn in a bit.
Conclusion: pretty good case that should do it's job but over priced at this time, at $10 it would be a deal, at $15 it would still be a good value, at $20 it's something I would consider and at the $30 I paid after shipping and handling well I feel like I over paid but I don't feel like I was robbed. I will be keeping it.....for a while at least.
***EDIT***
Ok after playing with it, the fact that the soft outer case is not super tight is not as annoying as the lint sticking to the outside of it.

I have one and have to say the biggest issue is the bulk.
It pops into and out of the holster so simply it's disgusting....dunno why you had problems there ?
If you spend a few moments and make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that the soft rubber/silicone outer shell is on properly it is not loose in the slightest. It is in fact quite snug. It's a bit trying to get it on perfect, but it's time well spent..
My complaint about it is when you use the holster as a vertical stand and have the phone facing outwards with the charger cable plugged in...the little flap that covers the charge port is not quite in the correct spot (you'd have to try it and see it for yourself, very difficult to explain).
The holster snap/clasp thing is in the way of that formentioned flap.
Not a deal breaker....I will be keeping the otterpop.
editater>
BTW, it's a holster made to go on your belt or the waist of your trousers....why are you concerned with lint sticking to it when it should never see any lint if used in the fashion it's intended for ?
Well after a little time I figured out why it WAS loose and had went on WAY too easy.......you see I live in a desert.....and it's summer AND my case had gotten stuffed in my mail box for oh at least a few hours before I got home and went to put it on. Now after both it and I have cooled off and had a kick a$$ nap, it fits quite well. Since it's little baking in the desert episode it may never be as tight as it would have been but it is very snug over all and no longer has any gaps or bulges.
As for the holster.....maybe it is because I am left handed or maybe mine it's just extra tight in the holster, but it is a chore to get outso I put it in my pocket.I may try to work with the holster some but together with case and holster it's pretty dang big. I will use the holster on a limited basis more then likely.
***EDIT***
Since I don't really care for the holster I still feel I over paid, but since the soft cover fits better now I don't feel I over paid quite as much.

Personally speaking, I wouldn't use the Defender for day-to-day protection. There are many other options available which offer less bulk and less lint-grabbing.
The Defender is perfect for rough users such as construction workers, farmers, soldiers, truck drivers, etc. The Defender has protected my MoPho twice already while on duty. Both were scenarios where I feel a 'lesser' case may have allowed damage to the device.
$30 is nearly a third of the cost of replacement under insurance. It is a tad on the expensive side. However, I think this is the very best level of personal device protection short of encasing it in a brick of silicon gel.
Compared to the defender I had on my evo the photon defender is perfectly tight. I went straight to radio shack and bought the defender after I bought my photon at sprint 3 days ago and I've only taken it off once to install my new sd card yesterday. As far as it sitting in the holster just make sure you push the rubber in all around the mounting clips on the sides. If they stick up a little it won't secure correctly. I've used defender cases before so I knew what I was getting but I must say this one is very well built.
The only thing that I don't like about the defender cases is that the screen protector just seems to take away from the beauty of device screens. I had my evo in a defender case for a week. I took it out one day and once I saw the screen again I was floored to how much I was missing by having the defender plastic over it!
And boom goes the Shooter
I've had the defender for 3 weeks now and I love it but it isn't for everyone. If you want a somewhat rugged smartphone that can take a few drops there are plenty of cases for you to choose from. If you want a case that protect your phone from falling out of a speeding vehicle then you want the defender, I should know i accidentally left my phone on top of my vehicle when driving away one late night.
It is bulky but that is fine, I don't want a sleek phone that breaks. This thing is like a brick. If you are playing around with the software and usually bork your phone you may want an easier to remove case. I hate doing battery pulls because it takes too long to remove this case and you end up with too many parts in your hands. This case is my insurance policy. Its a great case for people who play hard with their phones. The commuter case is a great case too but you have to match the case to your lifestyle. For me, I wont buy a phone that doesn't have a defender case.
In my experience the phone does not move around inside this case. It stays locked tight in its plastic shell. The rubber can be stretched easily but it is form fitting to the plastic shell and has just enough play to make it comfortable to remove. You have to tuck the rubber in all around the phone, as well as on the sides and on the back near the kickstand. Failure to do so will cause it to shift around but if you properly put this case together it shouldn't move at all. If it does then you may want to call Otterbox.
Now the defender series comes with the adjustable holster. If you do not use a holster then you may want a commuter series case. This thing isn't too easy to get in and out of your pocket since the rubber does grip well to cotton pockets. I use the holster about half the time and keep this thing in my pocket the other half. I'm okay with this but if you wear really tight skinny jeans you'll probably hate this case. So if you don't use holsters or you wear skin tight pants then you should get something else.
The screen protector causes glare and degrades the visual quality of the screen. The camera lens also has a protector over it which I find does degrade the camera quality if it is not properly cleaned. I don't find this to be a deal breaker because I could easily remove that piece of protective plastic. If anything I wish it was removable and replaceable out of the box.
Its a great case that can take a ton of abuse and leave your phone looking brand new.

I cringe at your use of this term!
Car Dock & case.
Is the Defender series compatible with the Car dock? If not how easy is it to remove.
I never tested it on the car dock but I can guarantee you it does not work with the HD Dock. While it is not too difficult, you don't want to disassemble this case on the regular. Reassembly is a *****.

No, I can tell you it's not compatible....I have the Commuter and it doesn't even work in the Car Dock.
I was hoping that by taking off the outer rubber shell of the defender series, that maybe the hard cover would still fit in the car dock. I'll let you know in a few weeks when everything finally arrives in the mail.
Yeah, let us know.....I even bought a cheapo $5 case (the thin plastic ones) just to try it.....nope!! Wouldn't work.
Yeah this case is still a lint magnet even without putting in my pocket and now I have some dust between protective screen and the actual screen.....of course some compressed air took care of it but I had to open it for that. I also worry a bit about heat while tethering. Not that it gets anywhere near as hot as my htc hero did (could fry an egg on it) but if it got warm enough to feel trough hard case AND the soft rubber it must have been pretty warm inside (does it get hotter doing wifi tether as opposed to usb & which uses more battery).

Does anyone know what the difference is between the $50 Defender (Revision A) and the first revision that other sites (other than otterbox.com) sell? The difference in the model # is the letter A at the end.
Can someone post pictures of this case on their phone? I have always bought otterbox defenders but im debating if i should buy another after a bad experience with the one for the Evo 4g.
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
I don't think a picture will do it any justice. It is one of those things you are really going to want to see and touch in person to decide if you like it or not. I like mine, lint magnet and all because it makes me feel my Photon its safe and for that I am willing to live with the trade off of some lint and a little extra bulk. Of course every time I take off the case to clean it I remember just how sexy a naked Photon is and I consider slapping on an invisashield screen protector and going naked.

I just received my otter box defender in the mail today. I bought mine at amazon for $27 + $5 S&H. The case appears to be genuinely an otter box. The box it came in was damaged and opened, but the case itself is fine. My guess is that the amazon ones are cheaper because they are in damaged boxes.
As far as I'm concerned though I'll take the damaged packaging for the $20 savings.
Bought the Defender last month and was enamored by the fact that i can throw, kick, slam the phone anywhere and it wouldn't get damaged. The only problem was (and this was a big one) that the case is so f***ing huge for regular use! I got fed up of that and exchanged the case for the commuter. SOOO much better for everyday, common hazards.

ive been looking around on amazon and ebay for a holster perferably a horizontal one. and i was just wondering does any one have one? and if so what kind? and would you recommend it? im not sure why but ever sence ive had blackberrys (that came with the holster) ive always liked carrying my phone in a holster. any good ones out? they all seem kind of universal now, so i want one with a tight fit.
thanks for any help guys =)
The otterbox defender series is nice but it depends on what you want.
Pros
Nice cover with built in screen protector
Rubberize skin helps with slipping out of hand and protects from damage from dropping.
Holster has 360 degree swivle
Good customer service
best protecting case on the market
company covers phone deductible on damages
Cons,
Adds bulk (once used to it this becomes no big deal)
Rubberized outer shell may snag coming in and out of pockets. (may cause missed calls but your phone shouldnt fall out accidently)
I have broken the holster broke the thumb off ( I was drunk dont ask how. The customer service sent me out 2 replacement holsters after calling them)
The holster is nice but can have a propensity to catch things when walking in tight proximities.. (doesnt help I am a large guy)
Recap,
If you work construction then getting an otterbox will help keep your device longer in harsh environments.

ill look into it. the only issue i have with that is that it is huge. i was hopping that i could get one with no case. like a leather one or something?
thanks for the help man i appreciate it
Before I got the defender, I bought one from the sprint store kind of a bare bones cover, the holster did have a swivel. THe cover itself didnt offer much in protection and same time didnt have any bulk..
The only downside with the holster was you needed to fully slide the phone out to retrieve and answer any calls. Unlike the holster for the otterbox it is a quick snap out.
I will see about a link for that case for you. Chances are good you can go to a sprint store and they would have one on hand you can checkout before buying..
http://shop2.sprint.com/NASApp/onli...ryID=CHM4701R&topPageNumber=0&subPageNumber=0
Here is a link to the cover I used before the otterbox..
Also have this through sprint, no case but simply a holster.

THis one looks pretty good too but I cannot speak for it since I havent used one personally.

ok sounds good man, thanks. if you find the link ill sure look at it =)
edit: oh i see you have posted them now =) looking at them right now.
edit 2: ok after looking at them i think i like the leather one the most. i may go look at them soon, i cant today because i have 7 inches of snow and a icey driveway, uphill. haha also i may find simular ones on amazon, as sprint is always so expensive! this one doesnt look to bad but im not sure what ill get just yet.http://www.amazon.com/Horizontal-Re..._32?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1326927546&sr=1-32

naked the phone seems to do just fine and fits fine in my slacks pockets with out any bulging. unless your doing something really active, id vote to just go for the pocket, if you have seen the videos the screen is really hard to scratch.

weird. myn has little ones all over on it, i keep it alone in my pocket always.
The otterbox defender and commuter are both excellent cases IMHO. They're a bit on the pricey side but well worth getting if you want to protect your screen/camera (and basically everything else)
Got this about a week ago and love it. I've had a belt clip for all of my previous phones except the Note 2. I don't think Seidio made one for the Note 2 for some odd reason, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that they did for the Note 3! When the phone is in the holster, none of the buttons or ports are covered. The only thing blocked by the holster is the screen and the S-Pen. I'm glad the S-Pen is covered so that it can't fall out when you're walking around. I doubt that it would fall out anyway unless your phone was jarred fairly hard, but either way, I'm glad that it isn't even a possibility when holstered! Some people say they don't like holsters, but I don’t like my phone being in my pocket where it can collect pocket lint and/or other random debris that mysteriously gets in to pockets. Also, if it's in your pants pocket it's very possible to crack your screen if left in your pocket when you sit down, unless you wear super baggy pants. If you don't like the way a holster looks, then it's very easy to hide it with your shirt. It's actually easier to have it hidden behind your shirt, because you have to go out of your way to tuck your shirt behind the holster to make the holster visible! I've thought an thought about it, but just can't wrap my head around why people say they don't like the way a holster looks. Like I just said, your shirt naturally covers the holster. If you don't like the way it looks, then don't go out of your way to show it!! Lol
Now a question for all of you :
I want to know is if the Seidio Surface holster will work with a standard TPU case, like the Spigen Bounce or Diztronic, just to name the two I have. I wish Best Buy would get in their Platinum branded (which are manufactured by Seidio and re-labeled for Best) cases and holsters so I could see if the Surface holster will work with my other cases, then I could buy just the Surface holster from eBay. If anyone has the Surface holster and could test out other cases, I would really appreciate it! Pics would also be nice! I would like to be able to see exactly how well other cases fit in the holster.
EDIT : I'll try AGAIN to post some pics in a few. XDA Premium and XDA Premium HD apps are both telling me I have to log-in to post pics, or that I don't have permission. I REALLY wish the app developers would work on those issues, as they've been going on for months now! I usually get either one of those messages. When it actually let's me attach pics, I'm only allowed to post 1 pic per post! Sooooooo frustrating!

Well dang, I wouldn't have created this thread if I would have known that there was already a thread about this item! Before I posted, I looked to see if anyone else had created a thread on it. Obviously I just missed it somehow, :facepalm!
I'm right there with you though, I absolutely LOVE having a holster for my naked phones! My opinion is that a holster is just a very simple way to safely carry your phone around with you, let's you get to your phone very quickly and easily, and Seidio's holsters are also very minimal with almost no added bulk! Not to mention it keeps your phone out of your pockets, which is great for eliminating the possibility of potential damage AND also eliminates the possibility of pocket lint getting in to any ports or other openings on your phone!

Hi, do you think the Note 3 with the S-View case would be able to fit properly in the Seidio holster? Cheers!
Not a discussion about cases or anything, just wondering how everyone carries their Note 3 since it's such a bigger phone. Coming from the S4 I find the added wight and size almost too big for my pockets. During the week I have to use a belt clip holster as I'm a field tech for copiers and find it too large for my slacks. Feels funny to have such a large phone on belt clip but I have no choice. The S4 fit nicely, with no case, in my slacks front pockets.

I have the Zerolemon 10k battery & case with holster and it fits in my front pocket with no issue. I will admit when sitting down it is a little uncomfortable but standing up is no issue. When sitting down I usually rotate the clip 90° and clip it to my pocket.

Love that case also, nice and secure on the belt clip. But how do you get the case off the holster with one hand? Dose that top clip loosen up a bit after time? One reason I like the Seidio holsters. Currently using the Spigen bounce case and the Seidio holster for the Dilex case, which I also have also but the rubber is too soft.
Still working on the one hand release, get it about every 3rd time.

Honestly, I was an HTC fanatic and coming from the EVO 4G LTE to the Note 3 I must say wow!
The Note3 is big, but it feels secure unlike the EVO. The screen hasn't gotten Lil swirly marks like HTC's "gorilla glass". That's with using the Spen just begging to scratch the screen. I've had no trade embargo negative features from pending lawsuits. Also, no dead pixels or Google wallet breaking from factory resets. 3gb of RAM! This is multitasking with no custom tweaks enabled after months of tedious work.
Sorry about the rant. I wanted to see if this phone could hold up to a week or so of no case. I haven't dropped it yet, but despite being in pockets and etc. there are no screen scratches or blemishes of any kind. HTC pushes build quality yet this phone is so much better.
Anyways, I spent too much to get a case atm. Debating on otterbox but naked for now. Thanks for maybe reading my first post in a long while. U get thirsty out there in the desert looking for old jewels.

I've been thinking about getting the Kraken too. I particularly like that they have the window mount that just snaps onto the back and then onto the ball of the window mount. Perfect for in the car either running Nav, or streaming music..etc.
I ordered the i-Blason case from Amazon for my Note 3. It's silicone & a hard shell both at once. Soft silicone wrapped around the phone while the hard outer shell grips around the back like the facehugger from Aliens...from all sides.
It comes with a swivel clip belt holster that faces the screen so only the back is exposed to the world, but since the silicone is very soft & flexible, I don't use it because it's a pain to insert & remove in a hurry when the phone is ringing. I suppose it'd be all right if I had a bluetooth headset. But...no matter!
I carry it in my breast pocket in my jacket, currently. But when it gets warmer, I suppose I'll buy a bluetooth headset & put it in it's belt holster & clip that big 'ol monster to my waist.

Being I'm on the road all day, I use it everyday! The window mount is extremely well built too! Only thing that is annoying is you have to unclip the kickstand to use the window mount...but that's it. Otterbox drove me crazy with the rubber always stretching and deforming. They will replace it, but just drove me nuts. The Kraken, the rubber jacket is inside the case. Plus unlike the Otterbox, I really think I could drop my phone off a building and it would still be 100%. SOLID freaking case! It's worth every penny.
I use the Spigen Neo Hybrid case. It fits comfortably in my front suit jacket pocket.
Owned my N3 for a week and I only have it in my pocket which may change upon getting the zerolemon 10k mAh battery and I might use the clip with it. Probably not, but maybe lol. Fits perfectly into my pocket w/ no excess popping out.

It fell on the thick carpet, but the table is almost 1.30m high, so I rather panicked.
I was case-less for the first week when I first bought my phone. Three days in, the darned thing slipped out of my hand and hit my stone floor from about three feet high. All I can say is that the metallic side lip of the phone crumples like paper mache upon impact.
Haven't gone case-less for more than a few minutes at a time since then.
I like case free feel of phones but i dont want to hurt them.
I have always used a gel silicone case and all my phones felt pretty much the same.
I got the note 3 and use just just a bumper. It stops the sides from getting messed up and takes a small impact.
MY girl has a bumper and silicone case. She was switching between them and just ended up going a few days without the case. She likes it but was scared the side would get all messed up so put the bumper back on.
I had just got my note 3 and I was on a lookout for cases. Within a day i spilled drops of water and cold drink (thank goodness i had got screen protector earlier). Plus the big size of phone makes it easy to be slipped, so ordered the Samsung S-View case for it's quality and functionality.

Also checked international shipping for spigen case, the cost was almost doubled and if chip goes bust, I'm skeptical they'll send a replacement chip internationally.

I go case free - I have most of the life of all my phones. I just can't stand how much thicker the Note 3 gets with a case - like holding a brick. It feels much better in my hands without a case. Yeah, I might regret it someday, but I get much more enjoyment out of a caseless Note 3. I tried, trust me I tried - I have sitting next to me a Spigen Neo Hybrid case. Yeah, it's a really good case and I didn't return it because I use it when I go out to places (like the LA Zoo, etc...). But the phone is just too thick with it on. Dangit, now I'm thinking about putting it on again after reading this thread.
I have been since I got my Demo Slick Wrap for the phone. I have never gone case free with any of my phones since the OG evo 4g, I usually buy a case the same day I get the phone.
I have had the wrap on for about two weeks now with no case and as mentioned its like having a brand new phone. The wrap is full body and (knock on wood) I have not had a drop as of yet but I keep in mind that I don't have a case on and try to take extra care when holding the phone.
I switch between case less and my spigen neo hybrid case

I've been case free since 2010 but I just couldn't do it for this device. Maybe the size, but also for resale because I might buy the Note 4 retail and sell this. But to be fair it's actually just a cover because the back replaces the backplate (s-view samsung faux leather case) so it's very minimal.
I couldn't do a big plastic/silicone case though.
These Slick Wraps and Cruzerlite wraps are great no case alternatives.

I have the Neo Hybrid, its nice but it does add a lot of bulk, and its not very comfy to hold in the hand. If you want slimness, the best best is to get a standard TPU case, like Diztronic or Spigen Slim Armor. Maybe even check to see if Casemate has a "Barely There" snap on hard cover.
I hope this helps.
Way tooo risky lol, I just stick with a bumper case
i am case free but looking at doing a case as I just dropped my phone for the 3rd time.. it is getting very battered up.. i have a chunk out of the case in the upper right (near front camera??), lower left and right... ughhhh...
looking at my phone now I think i see a crack about 1" to the left of the power button that goes from front to back...
I want a lifeproof but they dont make one and on ebay someone has "waterproof" but not submerge-able cases.. doing research now

side note is I do not want to have something that screws together as I now use a 64gb micro sd in my dslr, take pic, put into phone and go to facebook quickly now...
I run caseless with a zagg invisible shield. I use a Seideo holster to clip it to me
I keep my in a bumper case. I like it becuase it stays slim, but i don't want to drop this phone naked...
