obsolete - Sony Tablet S

Hi,
I've written a small utility to make a read of current devices firmware.
There is no need of root. What it is for? - I need stock readouts for making
proper firmwares for S.onyTablet.S [FLASHER] tool,
and solve problems with (vendor) oem sony apps.
FIRMWARE READER will:
1) read datapp partition to internal storage,
2) read system partition to internal storage,
3) copy files to pc,
4) compress data to two zip's,
FOR NOW I'VE GOT BIG REQUEST:
I NEED READ OUT FROM XPERIA TABLET STOCK R6B,
TO MAKE IT FULLY WORKING WITH [FLASHER] TOOL!
fail. i havent thought that dd works only on rooted devices.
consider it as not obsolete.
thank you to everybody who wanted to help

did some one else already give it you you if not i will update and do it if it helps you find root

hi, first of all a huge thanks for condi'efforts. i tried to read the FW on my xperia 3g tablet, it failed after "push busy box"
Sent from my SGPT13 using xda app-developers app

It also said the same for my tablet and it did not create the zip files

Doesn't work, any Mac friendly script?

hi guys,
thank you for quick response!
i've found the problem, uploaded v1.1,
please try it now

just tried it again, it says the folder /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 and /dev/block/mmcblk0p4 can not be accessed

How can i root my Prestigio PMP 5097C Pro

Hi,
some days ago i brought a new Prestigio Tablet. There was no Root Tool available for this tablet and i did a lot of searching to find a way to achieve root rights.
Today I found a way and want to share my results with you.
The solution is similar to the one described in this Post.
The main difference is the file system of the system image.
In the PMP5080B Rom the system.img is in cramfs and the wendal script unpacks this image onto disk.
The system.img in the PMP5097C is ext3 so you can mount the image directly on a Linux system and copy the Superuser binaries and set the rights with chmod.
copy /B su system\bin\
copy /B Superuser.apk system\app\
chmod -R 0777 system/*
chmod 6755 system/bin/su
chmod 6755 system/app/Superuser.apk
Click to collapse
after you did this and copied the modified image back into the Temp/Image folder you can use the script to pack the ROM back together.
Now you can flash the new ROM on the usual way like described in the manual.
Hope this helps
Please can you upload the patched image file ..
THX a lot

Same problem here
I dont suppose anyone has had any progress with the russian firmware which was posted earlier, still cant seem to gain root access through it for some reason. It might possibly be the same problem as was detailed before in that the owner of the superuser is not root? although i have noticed that there is no superuser app on this firmware, any ideas anyone?
Ok found a firmware that seems to be rooted and is working 100% on my device only small issue is that it is for another tablet (eFun M1005) which seems to be the exact same tablet just rebranded for sale in asia possibly. Anyway:

As i said is working fine on my tablet and seems to have no problems but i have only tested it for ~1 hour

Hi,
I've just downloaded official and rooted 1.0.6 img and I wanted to look into it before flashing. For some reason
Code:
mount -t ext3 -o loop ASBSM1005HN_20120802_V1.0.6.img /mnt
on my box doesn't work (wrong superblock). Did they changed fs or I'm doing something wrong?
BTW thanks for sharing the rom.

You must extract firmware file with Wendal RK29xx Image Tools and then you get images (.img) that you can mount in linux (system.img, etc ..).
I rooted like this: extracted firmware with wendal, than mounted system.img in linux - copied "su" and "superuser.apk" and set right permissions to this files. Than packed firmware back together also with wendal tools.
Today I had to send my 5097 for repair ... it won't turn on no more normally. I had to press few times reset, then power and if that didn't work - sometimes it started when I connected it to PC. I tried several different firmwares, but same situation with all.
Anyone heard of or had similar problems?

Possible root method for locked bootloaders.

Hello there. As you will notice, I am new to this forum. I own the Xperia U (ST25i) handset, and currently run the .564 firmware. Unfortunately for me and multiple others, my bootloader is locked, and my phone is also SIM locked to Three UK. Now, I am aware that for users with an Xperia S, there is a method to obtain root access through downgrading to Gingerbread, then running a script of some sort and updating to ICS. But, as there is not an ICS update for the Xperia U as of yet, this method does not work. But I'm thinking; surely if the exploit RUNS in gingerbread, it could get access to system files and such, without the need of ICS? My understanding is slim, granted. But I'm familiar with rooting, ADB commands and the Android file structure.
I would like for anybody with knowledge to help in this, as it could potentially be a breakthrough in rooting all NXT Xperia devices without losing warranty.
Many thanks,
-Pokoby
UPDATE
Having modified the .bat files and testing both the original and the modified versions of them, I can confirm they do not work. The problem lies in gaining root shell access. ADB shell always comes up with a $, rather than a #. This means there is no access to any of the files in /system/, /data/ or any derivatives. Unfortunately, that is where all of the files used to root are kept. I would love to work at a way around, and will help in any way I can.
-Pokoby
I have a xperia U with LB also. I´m not a developer but it would be great if someone could help with this idea.

Well, it'd be a tonne of help if you'd test my work with me
I've managed to get shell root, but for some reason it still will not let me push files to /system/ or to the /data/ partitions. Finding out a workaround. Although, I've noticed a "recovery" folder created in /mnt/sdcard/ by default (after I factory restored my ST25i). Wondering if the phone crashes, it'd load a .sin or .img file from it?
If anyone can help, do all NXT line devices have this folder in their /mnt/sdcard?
-Pokoby
Never noticed that. I´m upgrading my software and i you´l see if i have one named recovery.
Edit: I also have that folder. Any idea?

Kind of. On one of my friends' crappy Chinese android phones had one, and it booted either a .elf or recovery.img file from it if the system crashed in some way (as in total lock up, not just an app force closing). I may have to test this, but Sony aren't stupid, so I reckon it'll have something to do with engineering.
This is a folder created by system because i deleted and made a hard reset and the foder was there again. What is the purpose of that folder? How can we use it?

So far, I put the file for ClockworkMod Recovery in there. I made a batch file which essentially sends a couple hundred bizarre requests through ADB, which crashed the phone. Phone froze, did a reboot but no luck. I don't think there's any prime reason for it.
it´s not possible to put a rooted image file in there and use it somehow?

More serious now.
Why does exist that folder?
Well good luck.
Realising that the recovery folder was relatively pointless from a rooting standpoint, I have managed to compile a bunch of .bat files which can and have successfully rooted my Xperia U. I believe I'll need to get permission from whoever made zergRush to distribute this, unless somebody tells me otherwise. Nevertheless, it is a modified version of zergRush. If you want technical details, PM me about it and I'll be happy to talk. But all it does is gain shell root access and push files, in a very similar way to that of the Xperia S rooting method.
I'll hopefully have an upload later today, but in preparation:
Use Flastool to flash the stock .564 firmware
Wipe EVERYTHING in Flashtool
Reflash the .564 firmware without wiping /data/ and such (Not too sure if necessary, but is required in the process)
Make sure you have the correct drivers installed for ADB and such (A no brainer)

[Q] Rooting the Nabi 2

Hi folks, first post.
I'm trying to root my daughters Nabi 2 using the very good guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016463
However at the moment i don't have an sdcard in it. My question is this (and i apologize if this is a silly noob question but the touchscreen revolution seemed to miss me) Can i just push root.zip and gapps.zip to the tablet rather than an sd card? Obviously i'd have the change the script to reflect this, but would it be as simple as changing the path when i'm using adb and changing the path on the script?

Yes. The even easier option is to manually run the steps in the script. If you look at the script, option 1 doesn't even push root even though it says it does.
Easiest way is flash twrp recovery (newest 2.3.3 version) and transfer root.zip and the nabi 2 gapps over and flash those via twrp.

Swap Internal/External storages on 4.4 Kitkat

with the massive overhaul that is kitkat, google changed alot of files, and therefore a new way must be discovered to switch internal/external storages.
The editing vold.fstab option from 4.1-4.2 no longer works as vold.fstab was removed in 4.3, and the editing build.prop method for 4.3 no longer works.
Anyone know how to do it for 4.4?
thanks in advance
No Luck So Far
Been working for hours trying to figure this one out. Things to note is that now there are two mount points.
1) /mnt/media_rw/sdcard1 / sdcard0 (this has the actual /dev/block/vold/179:1 origin
2) /dev/fuse /storage/sdcard1 / sdcard 0
I've been unsuccessful trying any of the old build.prop tweaks. Hopefully someone smarter will come along and bang this one out.

unfortunately, its only for this rom unless other rom makers incorporate it as well

Hi
on kitkat, you should unpack your boot.img file, update the fstab.* files inside, repack it, and flash it.
The way the img file is built depends on your device manufacturer. I did it successfully on my mtk tablet with the tools I found in this forum.
I am pretty sure that unpack/pack tools exist for samsung as well (for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/how-to-unpack-split-samsung-boot-img-t1810907 )
Good luck in your search.

Before 4.4 I could do it by "Android Internal to External sdcard" app, but this app couldn't do the trick on 4.4 KitKat OS, so "Foldermount" could be a good solution for you. All this app does is make a image of your apps (that you want to) to sdcard. The real files are located in external sdcard and only the clone file ( of max few KB) will residue at internal sdcard. If you are a gamer, this will help you until the real solution arrives.
Good Luck.
There is real solution! Or at least it works for me.
biopsin said:
Since Android 4.2 and the intro of multiusers there is a problem with bind folders across sdcards, making any attempt on mount bind folders as root would result in visible to root only.
Solution is to fool Android with temporary hijack debuggerd to create the mount binds for us. Thanks Chainfire for this workaround!
* Download both files and rename without .txt
* edit debuggerd.mnt to suit your needs (using any other dir then /emulated/legacy/ will result in read only if browsing folders from sdcard0)
* move debuggerd.mnt to /system/bin
* move mount.sh to any place with execute permissions
* execute mount.sh with any preferred method.
cheers!

Thank You biopsin! Thank You Chainfire!
I'm including my files, but 'mount.sh' was not really changed in practical sense.
In case of 'debugger.mnt' it all depends on Your device. You need to check which block for You is internal and which external storage. Just 'mount' command should help.
You can also use it to mount only one folder - like 'obb', which will let You keep applications data on external card.
Just use "mount -o bind /storage/sdcard1/Android /obb /storage/sdcard0/Android/obb" command in debuggerd.mnt file.
You can also have different 'debuggerd.mnt' files (of course called somehow different - like 'debuggerd02.mnt') and different 'mount.sh' files which will let You mount different things whenever You like.
Enjoy!

And for easier usage You can try $cripter - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sites.mjwhitta.scripter&hl=en .
It's the best I found.

And now I cannot access even my internal storage and sdcard
Let me remind that I have root access now
But I don't have access to any apps or any file managers.
So I cant restore the file back to original
I also tried using the adb shell to remount as writable but it says "operation not permitted"
I need help to any guides for restoring vold.fstab back to original.
Please guide me.....
