I've had a Droid X2 for about a year. My wife decided that she wanted to try a smart phone and liked my X2. So, I got a Galaxy Note II for myself and gave her the X2. On my Note II, Verizon assigned the phone number I had previously on my X2. Then, they assigned the phone number my wife had been using on her previous "dumb phone" to the X2. I didn't do a factory reset on the X2...we just assigned the new number. Well, everything's working fine except for one thing. Somehow, the X2 seems to know that it previously had the other phone number and if I call her or text her from my Note II, the call or text shows as coming from a contact called "Me" instead of my name. I've searched everywhere trying to get rid of "Me" but no luck.
Anybody got any ideas?

I think that somewhere in the Phone or Contacts apps, I've seen an option to set "Own number" that was used for that kind of things, but I'm not sure on which ROM did I see it, and it may be a different story for phone. But you can give it a try and search in that direction, maybe it helps.

I just bought a evo 3d phone off of craigslist...biggest mistake ever. I bought it from this guy while at the sprint store. Once the lady verified it could be activated, I paid the guy and he bounced. The phone was activated, i went home and called someone. that person said I had the wrong phone number, and I checked my about phone and it has some phone number from a different state!
The phone functions and everything but I think it's working on some other guy's phone plan! I've tried talking to sprint and they have me listed as having an evo 4g with the correct MEID and everything. I worked with technical support on this issue and even did a factory reset, at which point the representative said that it must be a flashed or rooted phone and so they no longer can help me.
The thing is, this guy with teh phone number is in califand of course, when I ornia and I'm in maryland. He had his phone operational as recently as a few hours ago according to his friends (who i've contacted) so something happened recently that caused this phone to default back to this phone number some how. I've gone through and changed teh MDN and MSID number (per the sprint reps instructions) and when I do that I'm simply unable to make a phone call anywhere. When I do change my phone number to my correct number, I still have access to data but not to phone. and when i did the factory reset and went back to this cali dude's phone number i can now make phone calls...with his number...
What is going on? what else should i check/what to do? I thought when buying off of craigslist it was enough to make sure you can activate it...apparently not...

Sounds like either the phones is still activated under his account which this can happen.
Or the ESN is cloned I doubt it but you never know.
sounds like maybe the esn is cloned. it explains how i have the phone number of a guy in california magically all of a sudden... anything i can do about this? i dont think so...

That's why alot of folks flag the people who are trying to clone phones on xda some folks try to clone the evo 3d to work on boost mobile or other places.
It's also illegal to clone the ESN. If sprint activated it on your account and the number still pops up then it's cloned from what I have read and understand.
That's what sucks when people clone stuff messes up phones and then they rip folks off.
I would talk to sprint and see why it keeps doing that they may swap it out if you have TEP or if it's cloned they may look into it and call the owner.
I always buy my phones on EBAY due to buyer protection. If someone shafts you you will get your money back along with ebay steppin in to deal with the issue..
Did you have the Sprint employee activate the line? If they checked the ESN of the phone, they would have seen another line attached to it.
Does the hex and Dec in the about phone section match the physical numbers under the battery?
Let me know and I can maybe do further research on it...

And there is "no way" to determine if a phone is rooted according to Sprint.
I would personally take it to a service and repair location and have them take a look at it, if you don't have TEP they should still swap it for 35$. Or have an answer as to what's going on.

When they had you try a factory reset, was it via the phone OS (Home>Menu>Settings>SD & Storage>Factory Restet) or was it via the dial pad ##786#, edit, MSL/master subsidy lock? Have you had any luck, taken it to a repair store?
ok so i bought the UK version of the Galaxy S3...i was told by many since AT&T can't recognize the uk version of the phone, i can sign up for the 10/month unlimited data plan...so i called them yesterday and gave them my dummy phones ime number...everything was good all day phone worked great..but i just got home and i got an email saying that my "iphone" doesn't have the proper data package and changed it to the 30 month/3 gig plan...so i'm confused...did they know i was using a smart phone??
maybe i screwed up not giving them the galaxy s3's ime number?
Doesn't matter what country it's from they can still enter your ImeI and know what you using.
Lets hope AT&T doesn't do as they did with the N1 and go after the medianet users.
You are SOL, it appears in this case your phone IMEI algorithm is in the ATT IMEI sweeps. They have the UK SGS III flagged as an iPhone just as they had the white Galaxy Note flagged as a blackberry.
this is a hit or miss thing. Best thing to do is give them an imei of a dumb phone from AT&T. Been running with that on my GNote.

Yeah that's what I did do. I never gave them the s3's imei number. Gave them the imie of and old Samsung I had.

IMEI ranges are openly available and AT&T has the capability to scan for devices that fall within and then compare those to the data plan. The only thing that has stopped them from doing this wholesale is that it requires a great deal of resources and they have chosen to stick with the money. Otherwise there would not be anyone doing the medianet gambit without an IMEI spoof. The situation with the N1 was different in that they publicly stated they were going after Google and did so, it was a shot across their bow saying do not screw with our subbed phone system by getting into the business of selling unlocked phones to our customers. If they have decided to take this course with the sgs3 you will know soon enough as there will be many reporting that they were kicked to smartphone data but it would not be business as usual up to this time.
The other way that people get caught is that they are flagged at the time of making the switch by the csr and it sounds like this might be what happened here since this is the only report of it so far.

OK...so I took the plunge and upgraded to a GS4 a month or so ago, but lost my unlimited data. My wife still has hers and uses a measly 100mb/month. I called Verizon yesterday to see if they could simply switch the two lines as far as data goes, so that I have unlimited and my wife gets the 2gb/month plan and they told me that in order for that to happen we would have to swap phone numbers (I would have to take her# and she takes mine). Is there any truth to this, or did I just get someone on the other end who didn't really want to work with me?
That sounds about right.

Yeah that is what will happen cause they can't change the number on the account so what would happen is you have to change the sim card and the phone number is linked to the sim card. Also the unlimited data is linked to the account with that phone number so in essence you will lose the unlimited data plan.

It's all on one account though...figured all that would need to be done is a simple switch, but apparently not...

I'm rooted though and a little nervous about having whomever at verizon messing with my phone. Also don't really want flash stock recovery and get locked down with the most recent update. Decisions decisions. I suppose one day an exploit will come, but doesn't look too promising right now. I don't use crazy data but felt I had to be careful with this new 2gb plan, when I never even monitored it...ever.
I may of missed it, but if your phone has a 4G sim card it's as easy as just switching the cards. I ordered my S4 on one of the lines I have that had an upgrade coming. When it arrived I simply pulled the sim card from my Nexus and popped it into the S4 and never looked back.
Jett, you are cotrect.

Believe I would still have to do a device switch since I dont want my wife's phone number...or is the phone number not tied to the sim card?

Phone number is still tied to the sim card. Reading from your post it's probably too late to do anything since you got rid of the grandfather unlimited data. Now I think your only option is take your wife's number, request a number change and give your old number to your wife. You can also request a number change on your old number as well.
How about porting your and your wife's numbers to google voice, get new numbers on both lines but use your old numbers through GV

++ that's what I did. Ported my number and wife's number out to GV, and then ported the numbers back in on the different plans under the same account.

So, I've been having an issue with sending SMS messages on my S3 for awhile, and Verizon determined that it was an MIN collision issue from an S3 I had stolen last fall. Basically, I can't send text messages at all, and it's been this way since February. I tried network reset, top tier tech tickets with VZW, phone reset, ROM wipe, new SIM card, etc. Nothing worked. So Sunday I call, and the guy told me the antennae on the S3 was buggy, and that maybe the new MIN on the network wasn't downloading to the phone right. SO, he tells me that he can send me a new (in the original manufacturer's packaging, not refurbished) S4 as a replacement since I'd tried everything else. Even though it had a locked bootloader, I agree, as I really want my texting back. I received it not an hour ago, and it's a refurbished model, not even in the original f**king box. So, my question is, does Verizon still have new S4 devices to send out? If they do, do I have a valid reason to call and complain since what I was told on the phone, on a recorded call, is different from what I actually received? Thanks in advance for all help

They probably do, but very few amounts. They probably needed more space for the S5. You could call them and complain that a Verizon Rep told you that you would get a new S4 from them. Unless the rep lied, or he didn't say that you would get a "new" S4, Verizon can't really deny your claim.
What's up fellers! Been gone a long time and know I am back. I got a deal on a I527 and found out the guy used a Metro-PCS sim. I didn't realize this until after I put my SIM in and saw ATT. I didn't see that when he had his SIM in there.
I read the 5 or 6 posts on not being able to make or take a call from a TMOBILE setup but since this may be a little different I thought I would post and give it a shot.
My symptoms are no calls (does nothing then emits a single beep then hangs up). Does the same when dialing out. 4G and everything else works 100% Phone is fast boots quick charges fast no complaints anywhere except the stinking call issue.
I used KIES to reload the stock ROM. Took about 20 minutes and completed. Still no calls. Here are the details
Phone has the ATT logo on back, says SGH-i527, has I527UCUAMK2 all 3 places. I talked to ATT customer service and they said the IMEI points to a SGHNM819N. But nothing on the phone indicate metro PCS.
I use to hack back in the ATT Tilt days. Not anymore. I had a small stroke and can't do all this complex stuff anymore. If someone points me in the right direction I can follow instructions but it seems to have gotten a lot more cumbersome to do these days.
All I am looking for is bone stock reset where everything works. I can wait for KitKat to come out so I would like a clean fix.
My sim is a ATT. The service agent online assured me the SIM was fine. My old phone was a Skyrocket that got wet. So the MEGA needed a smaller SIM. I picked it up today and swapped phones.
Thanks for any help and I am willing to pay for someone's quick help. I use the phone for work and right now I am pinched.
SD
I had a similar experience when I bought a used mega, picked up full signal, eveything worked except that I couldn't make or receive calls, I just got a single beep. I even went to an at&t store and got a new sim card, still didn't work.
The guy who helped me at the store said the sim tray was bad, made it sound like it was a common. Issue. gave me the number to the warranty dept, said they might cover it. I called them told them what happened and what the rep told me at the store.
They sent me a replacement at no charge.
my phone done that when my imei was replaced with a galaxy s4's imei. I finially found a guy that put the imei from another i527 into my phone, he also replaced that sticker behind the battery from the mega he used to fix mine so everything matches

I took a look and sure enough the IMEI on the phone is different than the sticker in the back. I googled about 6 different IMEI sites US and EU based and checked out both numbers. Every single site says both comeback good. Nothing stolen or odd. A couple of site said not locked. I would like to have matching IMEI numbers. I would like the one used on the label. How hard is it to get rid of the one on the phone and make it match the label.
I don't think ATT will let me swap this out for a new one. I am not the original owner and there is no insurance on it.
Thanks

I wasn't the original owner and didn't have insurance, just had service with at&t. The phone hasn't been out for a year, so it's under warranty unless something shady was done to it. In my case the numbers all matched.
