What kind of wire would be recommended to perform the S-OFF and where can I get it?

any wire that can fit in the hole might work... i stripped a old pair of headphone wires that weren't working properly when i s-offed my Amaze, if the wire isn't a solid one make sure to twist it properly so it has good "contact" ^^
first time I did it I used a solid telephone type wire.
Second time I just used a wire tie from a bread loaf

as posted above, use the wire tie from a bread load/garbage bag... (insulates the fingers as well, so no problems with the software. had mine done in about 12 seconds..)

Did you guys cut it open with some scissors?
Edit: Nevermind, I used some tweezers to cut it down a little.
The small plastic coated paper clips from the dollar store seemed to be the universal answer as many had trouble with other wires... I dunno why tho.. But it was the only thing that worked for me and many other people

i used a paper clip with electrical tape around the middle to not let any static from me affect it
I used a regular paper clip with no coating or nothing, cause that's what they used in the video. You should probably wrap some electrical tape around it though where you are going to grab it to be safe.

Thanks for sharing guys. I got it working with a wire tie that ferincr and soblecram mentioned. It took me a while though because at first I put it in the wrong hole (the one next to the actual hole) and then I figured it out later. Then I tried to "tap" the wire. I tried tapping the wire sideways but somehow it didn't work and then I kept trying and eventually it got to work.
Pink paper clip
I will recommend to use a copper wire in my case ive always used a wired i cut off an old tv antenna since it has plastic all around and it bends easily without breaking...

Also use a metronome and set it to 34BPM

I asked this same question few days ago also and the best tip I got was to start on the opposite side of the camera and peel it off..I now have replacement batteries to change every day and found out if you do it the way then just peel it open like a book ...you don't have to do it hard...it gets used to openning and comes right off. I really don't mind if the back falls off becuase I always have a case on it...hard it silicone and it hoods it in place. I still do this very carefully. I realize tho many will not like this...but I gotta work with what I have...don't like it....but till replacement backs come on the market...it will do.
Its like the area above the mhl has a gap no matter how hard I press it won't go down.

Never mind. HTC being the kick-ass company they are is sending me a new back cover free of charge!
Mine also has a small gap just beside the headphone jack. It just doesn't line up very well right there.

Hi I was browsing around and noticed some 3vo owners who have changed the Capacitive and LED lights in there devices. Me as a noob would like to do this but am having problems on how I should. I went on eBay and bought some blue LeDs and was wondering if anyone who has done this can.point me into the right direction without me ruining my fone. I would appreciate any responses.

Your better off coloring them with a Sharpie marker (I did it with my blackberry) than trying to physically swap them. I tried to do a soldiering repair to a USB wifi thingy and ended up cooking the board.

This. Or tape and a Sharpie. Don't see why swapping them is a good idea at all. What if something outside of the swap requires you to take it in for warranty? You gotta make that look stock again. Removing tape is easy. Resoldering a tiny led is a hassle.

Yep. Colored vinyl tape inside the phone over the little led lights. And just for good measure (in case the colored vinyl fades, like mine did) use a colored Sharpie over the tape. Then put it back together.

yes the part u r touching the paperclip with ur hand should be covered in electrical tape,
i personally just used a paperclip. but i would insulate lol

can i put normal tape around?
You'll want to use electrical tape. It protects your phone from your body's built up static charge.

Is it just me or is anyone else thinking if you have to ask what an insulated wire is, then maybe you shouldn't be doinking around with your phone. I'm just saying. It might not be the wisest choice you've made today.

Gotta learn somehow. Each user is responsible for the consequences of their actions.
I'd rather people ask and get it right than not ask and f**k it up.

Sometimes a seemingly obvious question can be the result of over thinking a problem. I wondered about this same issue. Is any wire with a cover around it "insulated" or is some special coating or something? Of course, I kept reading the forums and used one of those rubber coated colored paperclips with the ends trimmed off.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
It can also depend on your frame of reference. If the word insulation makes you think of the fiberglass materiel in your walls, then you're going to get lost.

I just went out on my seadoo rxp this past weekend with evo in tote. Went out in long beach harbor california. The exposed surfaces of the phone become what is called hydro phobic (literally "scared of water" but really just repels water). Like how water beads on a waxed car. However, so repelling of water that water can't get through cracks less than about a millimeter or so at close to surface pressures. Your phone has no holes that large but mic jack and USB, and while water goes into the big holes, it can't get past the smaller cracks inside them to get to circuitry.
That's the theory anyway. I'm still not going to try. I just stick my phone in zip lock bag whenever it might be exposed to water, like around the pool or in my sweaty pocket while mowing. Screen still works great, just follow usual precautions about sharp objects near phone (no keys in pocket).

I've used ziplock baggies fly fishing in waders and canoeing a handful of times. Works great for me, except not perfect for taking pictures... Touchscreen works fine through the bag...
I have recently taken apart my evo 3d and while prying the plastic off, i hit one of the ribbon connectors and took a small chunk out of this. I know it has to do with the touch part of my screen, as a small portion of it doesnt work properly. Im curious if i can buy a new one and replace it myself, because obviously my warranty is void now cuz i took the screws out.
I highlighted the section that i screwed up in this picture http://imgur.com/qYLw2
There is no way you can replace that ribbon/connector by yourself. You would need a microscope and some very expensive equipment to get it unsoldered and re-soldered.
