Updating woes - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all
I have an Australian SGS3 on the Optus network. Recently, our devices had Jellybean rolled out but I can't update to it.
What happens is, I hit install, device reboots and starts unzipping the update, once it gets to 31% and the lying down android appears, it reboots and I'm required to download the update again.
Mods are:
CWM + unsecured boot image + root installed via SGS3 toolkit.
Stock recovery and boot image flashed via above toolkit before update install.
Any ideas?

Download firmware from Sam mobile and flash via Odin. Easy.

May I please request a link and a quick refresher on what to do?

[Q] installation of rom keep aborting(section7)error

Hello and sorry to post this problem here as i have the tmobile note but i used the att i717 rooting method from rootgalaxynote.com ofcourse did not use an att based rom but a tmobile one( cm10.1 rc2) . The problem is after clearing everything i then proceed to install the new rom using cwm and it says "install aborted" error section 7 ive tried it a few times cleared everything again and still nothing. Dont know if i need to update cwm and if so how vers.5.0.5 or something like that or is it the build which is the lates update by tmo uvlma1 and the instructions were from may of 2012. Please help i have gone back to stock for now as i did backup first. Ps i have installed titanium backup pro and and superuser and have even frozen some of the bloatware from tmo so im guessing i am rooted. Please help as the tmo threads are dead and no help from no one!! Thanks a bunch guys
Just update your recovery dude.
Twrp is superior to cwm imo anyway.
This has been discussed many times. Since you are coming from T-Mobile forum here is a link which was recently discussed. Staus 7 means you need to upgrade your recovery.

You did not check the link and you ignored the other users recommendation.
Recovery from rom manager will not work. Twrp recovery is good for our devicw. Flash twrp and you will be ok. Follow the instruction from link provided

so i download the twrp file and flash through odin? the problem is my phone doesnt stay on. it just boot loops to the samsung logo. sorry for misunderstanding not to go through rom manager. thanks so much osterizerblender for helping me with links just need to know how to do this procedure.
Your phone will stay in download mode to flash a recovery.
Once flashed boot into that every and flash a Rom within.
Put your phone to download mode. Make sure you have drivers installed. Open odin(i used v1.85). Put the twrp recovery tar file in to pda slot. Conect your phone to your computer in download mode. Once odin finds your device then press start.

[Q] Problems installing CWM recovery onto P7500

Hello I bought my P7500 in Malaysia from an independent computer store (not tied to a carrier) about 2 years ago and I recently decided that I'd like to check out CM before I buy my next android device to see if it's important to me to be able to have CM on my next tablet. I took the files from the CM's wiki on how to install CM on the P4. I'm able to get into download mode on the tablet and successfully install the CWM according to Odin 1.85. After I reboot though I still have the standard Samsung recovery binary and when I attempt to repeat the steps it says;
Reason: Force Key,
Secure Mode: Secure,
Check Signature: Check,
Custom Binary download: No (0 count),
Current binary: Samsung Official.
I'm using the official cable that came with the device (sometimes it's finicky about connecting) and Windows downloaded the drivers for it when I first connected the device to my PC. The only other thing I can think of is it has an official version on ICS 4.0.4.
Any help on why I'm having these issues.
Once you've installed cwm, then boot into recovery. Its the other icon when you boot into download mode. It should show a customized recovery rather than the stock one. I believe the infos you gave was from download mode right?

Fixed
Ok I figured it out. The problem seems to be that Odin needed to be restarted for each of the 3 different files that the CM instructions are telling you to install with it. I decided to try it in reverse recovery.tar.md5 -> modem.tar.md5 -> bootloader.tar.md5 and noticed only the 1st file is loaded properly. So if your following the instructions at wikic[dot]cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_p4 then you need to know to restart Odin between each file.
Actually I think you should read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074202. It has all the information you need and contains the right gapps for our device if you want to flash cm10.1.

[Q] SuperSU Binary Update Bootloop problem

Hi,
I have a rooted galaxy S2 on stock with the SuperSU application. I updated the SuperSU application today and when I opened it, it advised me to update the binary. I selected the option to update the binary via CWM (as that's my recovery tool). My phone then tried to reboot but is now stuck on the splash screen, I have access to ODIN mode which currently says CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (1 counts) but no access to CWM.
Please could anyone help? I have a feeling I would need to flash the kernel but am not really sure what the best way to fix this is. If possible I would like to keep all my data intact.
Any help is appreciated
Also apologies if I have posted this to the wrong section.
Thanks

After a few hours of struggling, I managed to get my phone back up and running.
All I did was flash the kernel with a Stock one eg. Philz (as I have stock JB firmware). Once flashed my phone booted up.
However I do have a issue with the SD card now, apps which were installed on my SD card were all greyed out even though I can access the data such as music and films off the card. Slightly strange. I did try mounting and unmounting, as well as reboot and that didn't help.
Considering downloading the apps again and simply moving to SD card and see if that works rather than an uninstall and reinstall.

Hi, i using HTC ONE with ARHD31.6 stock kernel. Also i have encountered bootloop issue after i did a update for superSU from v1.8 to v1.86. Tried both options and it stills resulted to bootloop. So far havent been able to find a solution for this so other then restored back to my previous backup.

I had the same problem (bootloop issue) on my Samsung win I8552 and I solved that reinstalling CWM trought ODIN :
1. First be sure USB Debugging is checked in ur device ( Settings>Developer Options>USB Debugging )
2. Extract the Odin file from the zip.
3. Open Odin3 (Run As Administrator).
4. Put your device in download mode. To do so, press Volume Down And Home And Power Button all together and when it vibrates release
Power Button but keep pressing left ones. You should have a triangle with an android janitor while it's saying downloading ..
VOL UP TO CONTINUE...
5. Now connect USB to PC ,you should see a blue rectangle with COM:xx and saying Added. It means that your device is ready to be flashed!
6. Go into the PDA section and select your .tar file.(CWM Recovery)
7. Dont check any option (F.reset time and Auto reboot are checked by default) So just uncheck Auto Reboot.
8. Now click Start.
9. When it's finished, it should say that "Res OK" in Odin..
10. Now remove ur USB and remove ur battery and put it back and power on your phone.
It must work now!

I know this is an old topic, but the recent supersu update caused my phone to get stuck during booting:
The new update came over the playstore, it asked me to update the app. After that it said that the Super User Binary needs to be updated. I chose the option that does the update process in the CWM recovery.
Then this happend:
System shuts down, boots, I see that some kind of black screen gets displayed(softkeys on and the display stays blank), then it reboots and stops the boot on the Galaxy S2 splash screen. Now that I didnt even get to the samsung splash screen I flashed the Apolo Kernel as an tar file through odin
after that I was able to get one step further and was able to get the Samsung splash Screen but the Splash screen keeps on repeating over and over but after that I also had my recovery back.
Now I tried to Install SuperSU 2.16 as zip in the recovery. but the endless samsung screen persited. After that I used the 2.15 Beta file. but this didnt work either.
I also fixed permissions wiped cache & dalvic cache
Why wouldnt my system boot after the first initial update and how can I finally fix the boot "loop"?
Thank you very much guys!

Sorry to repeat myself, reflash your rom (no wipe). You will not lose anything.
It's the easiest way.

after using complete unroot s6 keep in boot loop how to fix it?
If you use TWRP like me and have a recent backup of your system just restore it and it'll fix the boot loop.

thank u very much, this saved me from freaking out. it absolutely worked.
supersu binary reboot problem
first of all, get into recovery mode and copy the rom and gapps files to your internal storage through pc via usb cable.
then wipe the data, and make a clean flash of rom and gapps and reboot system.
I know this method will surely lose our data. but I have not found a solution at that particular instant other than this.
It happened to me.
Hope someone will surely solve this problem.
Thank you chrisXL, came across this thread from a Google search regarding my OnePlus2 using LinageOS after the SuperSU binary update. I simply went to INSTALL in TWRP and didn't use any wipe options. Phone booted right up after that! Thanks!!
Hi Guys, please help me. I flashed my moto g peregrine with the latest lineage os version. After that, i enable the the root option via TWRP with the addonsu.
After that, i downloaded via google store the SuperSU app i it asks to update the binary. I choosed the option via "TWRP" since the other option didn't work. After that, my phone is on bootloop (the symbol of lineage os is moving) and i can't acess to recovery mode.
What i can do?

[Q] Can't update firmware and connect with Kies

Hello,
My phone can't update the latest firmware via settings > more > phone-info > software-update. It will download and reboot in update/download mode, but then stops updating and reboots normal. It says can't update firmware, try via Kies or a Samsung Centre. Kies says the phone is not supported...
Latest firmware info (SamMobile)

CSC: I9300PHNGMK1
MODEM: I9300XXUGNA8

I've rooted my phone in the past, but im now back on the Netherlands stock rom (see the image below). I would like to have my phone original (no root et cetera). I had problems with my IMEI (previous topic).
Should I flash CWM Recovery (via this tut) and root my phone (via this tut), backup EFS/IMEI (via one of the backup/restore apps in the topic) and flash stock rom again (via this tut) OR should I just follow this tut. I'm afraid I lose my IMEI this way.
Thanks!
Please help!

PRODUCT NAME: GT-19300
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (2 Counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
It says 2 because of CWM and Root I just flashed. Before I also had a CWM, root en Custom rom but when I went back on stock I lost my IMEI because of the basebands. Then I flashed the UK stock rom (that one had a newer baseband the Netherlands one). After the Netherlands got the new baseband, I flashed that one, but around 28 march there came a new update available and that's when I found out it won't update... I think it has to do with the past of my phone...

Hey
It would be safer that's all..try using philz recovery for that..
Also u need not flash a stock recovery before a full flash, as told in the guide..but you can just follow it word to word..
I always use triangle away and then directly flash firmware using Odin..

Hey
Can u boot into recovery and tell me what u see now?
Do you have your phone serial number written down? It's under the battery, just above where the IMEI is written down. If you plug in KIES, and select the option "Emergency Firmware Recovery", with your phone on, then enter in your serial number, and the model number of the phone, (GT-I9300), you will be able to download the OEM firmware. It will wipe EVERYTHING from the phone, so make sure you have all of your crucial data backed up. If you can't get KEIS to work, you can restart the phone in download mode, and flash the OEM ROM with ODIN.
