[Q] Private messaging sms pro - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed go sms pro which was working fine for private messaging. Today I purchased the premium features pack and the advanced function pack. I then received an envelope icon in my notifications bar of my samsung s3 saying private message received, not my usual purple icon. When I clicked on it it just brought up my phone keypad. When I went to my private message box nothing was there. I received 3 messages today that way & can't access them can't find them any ideas?
The sender of these messages on that day went to another country.

How to send sms --- please help !!

Hi
I have written in numerous postings now and still has no idea how to work the sms. I am connected to Vodaphone and has received a couple of sms messages with no problem in my inbox. I have checked the network settings and it showed a call centre number which looks ok and certaintly I have received messages indicating that it is ok. However when I tried to send a sms, I could not even compose a SMS message. In the "New" command on the today screen, there is no sms message to select though I have the option of E-mail message there. I tap on a contact and "Send SMS" and there is just no response at all. Wonder if some kind soul could give me a detailed step by step way of sending sms thru the O2 XDA which I got but connected to Vodaphone?
Cheers
Vic
Hi
Sorry if you have already tried this.
Just go to new email. then press the the down arrows on the upper right of the screen by the subject box and change the service to SMS
then it will attempt to send sms's instead of emails.
HI
Thanks for reply. I tried tapping on "New" then "Email Message" and it goes straight to Inbox with my 2 sms messages that I had received displayed there. I tapped on the upper right hand down arrow and it showed "Sort by" with 2 options- From "Received date" or "Subject" and no option for SMS. Is this correct ?
Anyway- how does one compose and send email messages?
Cheers
Vic
Click on Inbox, then in the Upper LEFT of the screen you have the option to select ActiveSync (basically e-mail) or SMS. Select the Inbox section of the SMS part. You will then be able to select New from the bottom Left of the screen which will allow you to compaose an SMS. Remeber to click 'Send' and not OK to to send it!
Hi Matt,
Thanks for reply.
Got as far as the inbox option of SMS; it showed the 2 sms messages which I had received so far and when I click on "New" as instructed, nothing comes out of it.
sms
try pressing the green telephone handset button. press tools, press sms, enter number at the top, enter text, then send, if you click on tools, then choose options you can click for delivery reports.
Thanks for reply.
Pressing "Send SMS" at the phone menu give no response at all.
I seem to think that there must be an activating step for using sms; I have checked the call centre number and all that and everything is fine. Somehow I just could not compose an sms message. Not sure if I should hard boot the whole damn thing to return to factory defaults to see if it reactivates the sms mechanism. One question is will hard booting relock my XDA which I have already unlocked with the XDA manipulator?
Cheers
Vic
Hi all,
Just an update to the problem I had no more- a cold boot restored the full functions of the sms service and I still do not know which files were missing or corrupted.
Thanks for all help with answers anyway.
Cheers
Vic

[Q] voicemail (voice mail) question on # of messages left

I came over from EVO 4g and whenever someone left me a voice mail, I'd see the number of messages overlaid on the voicemail icon on my home page. If I had 4 message the number 4 would be overlaid. When I pressed the icon, it played my messages from some storage location on the phone, not by calling into voice mail.
Now when I get a voice mail message, I get an obscure looking text from a 9016 number. When I click on the voicemail icon (widget) from my home screen, it says I have no messages. If I call into voice mail then I can get my message.
What's up, why don't I have the counter anymore and why aren't my messages not stored on my phone anymore? I'd sure like it the way it was... is there an app for that??
OK, I found the answer in an obscure place, but it worked for me and I have exactly what I want! This was taken from the Sprint site.
Having VVM issues (getting a text from 9016, and you use Handcent)?
We are in contact with Handcent, still trying to connect with Go SMS. Use these instructions if you are having the issues.
If you have Go SMS you will need to disable the "disable other text notifications"
If you have Handcent, you will need to go into Handcent, press menu, settings, application settings, default messaging applications and then check "disable".
•1. Go to dial pad and hit *38 Talk to cancel any call forwarding.
•2. Power off the device and remove and replace the battery and power back on.
•3. Update profile by hitting Menu – Settings – System Updates – Update profile (try to leave yourself a VM)
•4. Go into the visual voicemail application and compose a visual voicemail message (Hit Menu ••à Compose) of 5+ seconds and send to [email protected].
•5. Test to see if visual voicemail is working again, and if the top 4 items above do not solve the issue, I recommend you call *2 and talk to a Sprint Customer Care Representative. Typically if Visual Voicemail is not working, it’s related to the initial provisioning not getting setup properly.

[Q] Can't send outgoing text messages

My Galaxy Note II can receive and send phone calls, I can use data over the 3 network and I can receive texts, but I cannot SEND texts.
My Note II is rooted, unlocked and running Jelly beans rom V5 on the 3 network in Scotland on a pay as you go SIM card. The SIM card works in my other UK phone (unlocked Nexus S), i.e. I can send texts when it's in the Nexus.
I have never been able to send texts with the 3 SIM card in the Note II, (as in this isn't something that was working and stopped, it never worked). My note II was able to send texts when it was on the Verizon SIM in the states.
After I send a text, the "view message info" screen show it as sending to a +44 number and says sent. Several hours later (after the recipient in question never receives the text) I get a text from +441144 (then recipients number) with a message stating " Your text - to - speech message to 01144 (number of recipient) has been rejected by recipient phone."
Calling my +44 contacts works just fine.
I have no idea how to fix this issue. Does anyone have any ideas/ similar issues with their Verizon note II abroad ?
Thank you for your help and time
Using rooted Verizon phone to text on UK three network
I had the exact same problem, three network, using a Verizon S3 with synergy ROM and a hacked APN (as Verizon would not allow APN to be added), I guess you figured that bit out? Using APN Manager Pro running as a system app as set by Titanium Backup Pro.
You also have to make sure you have all the right APN settings, this was done to make DATA work on the phone.
Now the problem you describe is exactly what we had, it's the format of your phone numbers in your contact list, for UK numbers while in the UK, you DO NOT use the +44 or 44... just enter the number as normal 0745 xxx xxx etc... and that fixes the problem. Btw It's quicker to log into your gmail account and edit all of your phone numbers in there, presuming you use Gmail to sync your contacts and not verizon backup as that won't work over here when off their network.
This does cause another problem though, if you happen to use Viber, then viber will not see the contact, so what you do for that is add ANOTHER entry in the same contact, so I use the WORK field, and you enter +44 745 ... you must have the + in there and you must drop the zero, this way normal text works using the MOBILE entry in UK format, and Viber can see the contact in thge WORK entry... all appears to work doing this.
I know it's off topic and you may not use viber, but if you do, then your USA contacts would have to change your phone book entry to +44 745 xxxxxx again including the + and international country code and they can then see you as a viber contact. To see my USA contacts I changed my entries to +1 xxx xxx xxxx, so an orlando number might be +1 407-999-9999 then Viber can see the contact, just use multiple entries within the same contact, there are plenty of fields available.
Hope all of this helps, took some time to figure it all out

I'm having this problem too, on a Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere 2 that I imported from America (it's got a slide-out keyboard, we don't have them over here), also rooted and running on the three network.
I've changed all my +447 contacts to 07 but texts only send successfully when I start a new conversation and pick the 07 recipient. When they text me back the number at the top changes to +447 again and I can't reply without starting a new conversation.
Any tips?
possible workaround
I've installed Handcent to replace the stock sms app and it seems to be working well so far. As far as I can tell, replies are successful and the number doesn't default to +44

[Q] No Notification When Receiving MMS Message Without Data Connection Enabled

I recently installed Cyanogenmod 9.1.0 instead of the stock ROM on my SGSII. Now, when receiving MMS messages with my data connection disabled, I do not receive any notification on my phone stating that a message has arrived. This includes no tone being played, no vibration, and no Messaging icon on the upper-left of my screen. However, if I open the Messaging app, I can find the unread MMS message in my inbox and read it.
In addition, it seems like my battery runs out very quickly when there are MMS messages that have not yet been downloaded, and when checking the Battery settings screen, it shows that >80% of my battery has been used by the Messaging application (standard being <5%).
MMS message notification works as I expect when my data connection is enabled. SMS message notification works as I expect regardless of the state of the data connection. MMS message notification worked as I expect regardless of the state of the data connection on stock ICS.
Bug occurs 100% of the time and can be reproduced at any time. Bug has occurred ever since installing Cyanogenmod for the first time. Reproduced both when receiving pictures and receiving text-only intended for several recipients.
Contents of logcat files:
logcat.txt: Data connection disabled. Received an SMS message followed by an MMS message.
logcat2.txt: Data connection enabled. Received an MMS message.
All phone numbers have been cleared from the logs to protect the innocent.
