Hi there fello archos fans... I have a problem with my 10 1 G9 Turbo (250gb hdd version)
Basically, I have recently installed SDE (using the old unofficial method) as SDE from Archos it would not apply kept throwing up an error.
I then Installed the pre rooted 4.0.26 firmware. I don't believe this is the problem as its random, but, when I am watching a film or netflix or even just in the menu, half the screen will go black. It is the right hand side as you look at it. If I give it a gentle flex or twist it goes to colored lines vertically over the half that was black though this was discovered by chance.
If I press the power off button to sleep the screen 20% of the time it come back White on the left hand side, 40% vertical color bars and the other 40% black screen. The touch screen is still responsive as I can unlock it by sliding to unlock and it goes to launcher but I can't see the other side.
I have a couple of times gently manipulated the device to get the screen back to normal by gently flexing the device. There has been do physical damage to the unit and it is only about 8-9 months old. What should I do?
I know installing SDE invalidates the warranty but I was under the impression that it was only the software warranty not he hardware warranty?
As I used the old method I thought that it was reversible and did not watermark the device?
Should I try to get it fixed/replaced or get a Nexus 7 (all I can afford at this current time)?
Has anyone seen/had this problem before??
Thanks for taking time to read this
I would remove the sde and make sure this issue happens on stock too. As it sounds to be hardware fault, it will propably happen in stock too. Just contact Archos and ask them if warranty covers this issue and how to send tablet to them.

Sorry for the late reply but I have still got the tablet, the vendor I bought from says Archos has the responsibility to replace or repair and Archos say it lands with the vendor.
It would seem like it is a problem that is covered by warranty but no one wants to sort it out and its fast approaching the end of the warranty, surly this is a delaying tactic to run it out of warranty and then have to do nothing. I will never buy Archos again.

Take the tablet to the vendor and say the Archos instructed you to take the tablet to them. As far as I know it is up to them to send the tablet to archos for repair. Do you know if there are any laws which might help you in your country?

Hi,
I have troubles with my XDA-Display.
After Installation and Start of a Autoroute Program my Display has many Strips in all Colors and will not return to normal-mode.
HW-Reset, SW-Reset, New Flashing brought no result.
After opening the equipment I had briefly again a normal picture, but since that have I again only strips on the XDA.
Synchronise is okay, Backup i can make, but I have still no CE-Screen, only stripes. it would be beautifully if someone the problem knows and me thereby help could
Best regards
Verena
If opening it temporarily helped, then I would suspect the screen cable may be loose. That is the large brown flat ribbon on the motherboard. The socket it goes into releases by flipping up the dark brown strip on top of it. Then remove and reinsert the cable, close the socket, and see what happens.
Thanx Carlos for your Reply - I tried to reconnect the brown Screen-Cable, but still its the same Problem. The Screen is nowere broken and the XDA did no fall down .
Perhaps Somewhere has(d) the same probleme ?!

Sounds like the display drivers (the hardware) have failed. I think it's warranty return time, but maybe someone else can come up with an idea.
Warranty return is when the little sticker isn't broken, and you need to break it to get to the display connector.
Doesn anyone have a good source for warranty stickers? There must be special factories that make them. I'd like to convince one of these factories I do procurement for some major electronics firms, and get tons of different samples.
It's a common xda problem
I had the same problem and it was a return under warranty job for me - luckily I still had 1 month left on the warranty.
Googling around we're not the only people to suffer from this, it seems to have happened to quite a few xda owners.
See http://groups.google.com/[email protected]&rnum=1
and http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...-8&[email protected]
and others.
It'd be nice to know what percentage of XDA's go like this- I get the feeling it's quite a few.
Hi,
This is a know problem. I am now on my 4th XDA, all have had the same problem with the screen. o2 seem happy to swap it out each time. Does anyone know if re-placing the screen will fix this?
Gil.

Do companies in Europe really check this? I've opened exchanged quite a number of products that I've opened, never a question. I always figured those were there as a deterrent, nothing else. Actually come to think of it, I'm not sure that US laws would allow a company to void a warranty for opening a product unless it could be proven that it caused the failure.
On my US unit, the only sticker is on the screw on the MB at the top of the unit. You don't have to remove this to remove the display cable from the MB, only to remove the MB from the device.
XDA Display Problem
Now, after 4 days my XDA I switched off and on -> HAPPY - my XDA has the normal screen
Perhaps only Revision-Series have the problem ?

Try to boot it up a few times over the next day or so, if it still doesn't turn on go to B&N. This is a hardware failure and is fully covered by the warranty. If it does turn on, then flash it back to 1.4.0 and take it in.

When you plug it into the wall charger, does the USB cable turn yellow like it is charging the Nook?
Have you tried pressing power and both volume buttons at the same time for a few seconds? I have had something similar happen to me and that fixed it.
thanks for the advise,
it turned on after awile but im afraid its going to happen again.
do you think if i call B&N and tell them it over heated they will replace it with a new one?
also can you flash it to 1.4.0/1 if it doesnt turn on or show up on the computer (for future reference)
the power cord did turn yellow just in case you were wondering...

I would have the exact same fear if I had, what is clearly, a defective device. You can easily flash 1.4.0 with an SD card and some method by which to alter the data on that SD card. A phone or card reader would work perfectly.
Here is the link to the 1.4.0 restoration thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402190
Barnes and Noble is obligated to replace or repair your device, per the warranty.
Unroot it and factory restore it. If they won't exchange it then just tell them you are returning it under the holiday return policy.

I'm not a Nook scientist, though I'm guessing your battery might be the culprit. Rapid discharge is a known issue with lithium-based batteries, which usually causes the battery to explode or balloon out. It's possible that your battery bulged a little bit either due to manufacturer defect or possible introduction of moisture, explaining the "clicking" issue that occurs now.
If my crazy theory sounds remotely like what is happening, I'd highly suggest getting your Nook Tablet back to a 1.4.0 (better at 1.4.1 if you can keep it on long enough) state and swapped at the store. Simply explain it was charging and it got really hot and now clicks when you press on the screen.
This is an extreme example, though here is a picture gallery I found of an iPhone with a bulged-out battery: http://imgur.com/a/D2lyT#4

Hi.
So suddenly my tablet just decided that its screen dont wanna work!
I thought it died altogether, but I got notification sounds coming from it, indicating that it was still on.
I plugged it into my TV through HDMI and it works, so basically the screen is up **** creek.
Anyone know if this is repairable at home through some troubleshooting? Or if i have to RMA it?
Secondly, because of this problem, coupled with the fact my camera started showing green lines, and also that the system was laggy as hell, AND also because this is the second major issue i had with it, - first time its screen died for some reason after an update and it never turned abck on..
i personally would prefer to get cashback for the tablet, or a brand new device...
is this 'legally' possible in australia?

if you are able to RMA it, i would highly suggest to RMA it
if there is no physical damage, not unlocked you should be able to RMA the tablet
once you open it up and try to fix it your self, your warranty will be void

I'd also say RMA it. Most likely the LCD cable came loose inside... But it is also likely that the LCD decided to die. Either case, it's warranty repairable, as is the green static camera. Opening the device WILL void your warranty, so I'd suggest against it.
This message was smashed through a small grate by a slice of lemon wrapped 'round a large gold brick.
The last time I used my S2 was a month ago. After flashing a CM10 nightly via the OTA feature I just let it be.
An hour later my phone it won't turn on. I assumed that the battery had ran out until after my 20th-ish time pressing the power button my face appears on the screen (the boot logo).
Assuming everything was okay I left it for about 5 minutes before realising that the screen hadn't changed at all.
I pulled the battery and tried again, this time nothing happened.
I charged it, nothing happened.
I used a USB jig, nothing happened.
A few days earlier I had undertaken a mission to replace the USB Port which seemed to be successful, however, I felt that perhaps I forgot to reconnect the display or something to the mainboard - so I re-opened it and everything looked alright, I even assumed there was a fault with the power button - it wasn't.
I think there are two possibilities: A broken mainboard or it is hard-bricked.
If it's a broken mainboard I'd probably sell it as a broken phone on eBay but if it's hard-bricked I'd get a jtag and then sell it.
Lastly, I can't get the phone to do anything apart from heat-up when charging in the usual area near the camera.
My question is "may I have some help getting it to work?"

So if nothing works also with USB-jig, this is surely a hardware defect and so the only solution is to send it to Samsung if u have any guarantee...

You're going to have to get it a jtag. I had mine done by this guy on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unbrick-Sam...157?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2576e99b95
Good Luck
Haha, I thought about that but then decided against it for the following reasons:
1) rooted, running cm10 and non-stock kernel
2) I'd already sent it in for a repair of the USB port but they rejected it because of the custom software so it's probably blacklisted or something.
3) It is way too obvious a non-qualified person has opened it up and made changes.
4) the colour of the USB port board is bluer than the main board and everything else
5) sticky tape is missing at the bottom right (doesn't make a difference whether its on or off)
Thanks for the tips but they charged my friend £150 for, pretty much, reflashing stock because he was in a boot loop.

Thank you. I was originally going to get a JTAG done and I'll have the money as soon as I sell my PSP but it'd be a waste if I were to find out that the main board was actually at fault. If that were the case I'd sell it and take a bit of money out of the money I'm saving for my computer and buy a second hand S3 which I would then sell for a profit and buy a Nexus 4.
The people I contacted for a JTAG had a good review by a fellow xda member for the same service on the same on the same phone so it'd cost £29.99+postage.

Hello everyone!
My sister accidentally detached the screen of my phone because she was taking it from me. After that, we take it to the repair center (a store only in a mall) and they said that the screen is unavailable for now. The repairman suggested to take out the battery from the phone until the screen is available to order. One day I tried to turn on the phone with its battery inserted to see if it still works without the screen, I thought of the phone was still working fine because it still vibrates when you powered it on and I immediately removed the battery after doing the testing. It almost took 2-3 weeks until the phone was repaired (the screen replacement has no warranty). Then we got home and played with my phone. Suddenly, the touch screen doesn't work, I have waited for a few second then it works again. It keeps happening like that and there are times that the screen completely doesn't respond to my touches until I reboot my phone. The apps that I were using that time are responding well only the touchscreen does not responds well.
I am using a custom ROM while my phone is being repaired.
So here's my question:
Will touchscreen problem exist or occur if you didn't turn it on or use it (powered off) for a few weeks?
The phone that I'm using is Xperia Mini Pro SK17I. I have also tried other custom ROMS like CM10 and CM10.1 but it just makes my touchscreen worse.

Hey there.
What a coincidence, I just went through this kind of problem. Sorry to tell you this, but the screen assembly you bought is defective and there's little you can do about it, save for flashing back to stock and hoping for the best.
I ruined my xmp's screen and had to get a replacement part. I was in a rush so I bought a new display from the first store I came across with. Result: the touch digitizer was deffective, pretty much useless on CM10.1. It worked for a few minutes, but then it stopped responding until the next reboot. Touch response was sloppy, and two-finger gestures were all messed up.
Flashing back to stock ICS helped a bit, but it was far from ideal. I had to cope with it until it finally drove me crazy and I threw it to the ground. The glass shattered, many pieces flew off from the phone. Saved enough money for another screen and I'm just fine with it. No problems even after doing exactly what you described.
Word of advice: get a new screen assembly, and flash back to stock while you're at it.
Would you tell us how much the good assembly costs? Just for reference.

I usually buy these from a local store for about $40. Check the display and touch digitizer quality before buying when possible. If you plan on buying one online, don't go for the cheapest alternative you can find, you could end up regretting it.
I'd recommend buying from "formymobile.co.uk"
Some people might not know this, but the display and touch glass on the xmp cannot be separated. This is good and bad at the same time.

I am now dissappointed with myself because I didn't take my phone for repair to the store where I bought my phone. I have already brought my phone there before because of screen replacement too and they replace it with a good and functional one then that store move its location that was far away from us and that takes us to bring the phone in the nearest mall here in our place.
We found a store inside the mall, they fix it and TA-DAAAAA, a phone with a defective screen. And yes, the gestures are not working properly. I really love this phone but I can't take it anymore for another repair.
I am planning to buy a new phone but not a Sony Ericsson phone. I will buy a local branded phone [Cherry Mobile (Android phone) - search it on Google to see it] here in our country (Philippines). It is much cheaper but has a good quality. I am just a student so it will took me a long time to buy a new phone.
Unless my parents decides the buy me a phone because they also use my phone for playing.
