Do you want to remove the whole camera or just the glas protecting it ? Why would you want to do that ?

That was the video I referred to in my original post. It shows how to disassemble the board, but I'm not clear on how the camera is disconnected from the board once it's out?

If you flip the board over so the long piece going down is on your left.
next to the black square the connects to the lens on the left side is a cable connect.
Gently lift of the cable connect by prying it up and away from the pins on the side of the black square, thenyou can lift out the camera module.

And to reinstall, I simply do the reverse?? Is the camera module affixed by something (e.g. double-sided tape), or is it free once I release the cable conect?

So I performed pretty much a full teardown. I left the screen in the front of the case, because I didn't really see a point in taking it off.
I had an Otterbox Defender before, but I took it back to Best Buy and picked up the Platinum Surface Case (Blue), so that is in one of the pictures. Everything else is stock.
Anyway, on with the information!

The Camera button is loose! I found out why! The metal bar that runs below the button and the switch is only held in place with two screws that are on the far ends of the button and switch.
When you press down, the button actually bends the bar slightly before pressing fully. When I pressed the button in, it would feel like there were two clicks. Apparently the first click was just the metal button pressing down and touching the actual button (on the chip), and the second click was the actual button press.
I implemented the most ghetto fix ever for this (insert your jokes here). I literally took two thin cuts of packaging cardboard (from a super-glue box), and taped them together. They were about 1/16" thick each, so total it ended up just over 1/8" thick. Then it just rests in-between the metal beam, and the back plate for the phone (the piece the battery rests in). I was thinking of soldering something on, but then it would be a permanent change to the phone, which I didn't want.
The button on my phone is now rock-solid, and doesn't move at all unless pressed in. It now feels solid to the touch, and the only press that happens is the actual camera press. It feels much better now with this, but it makes me laugh to think of how I fixed it.

It is about the easiest thing ever.
It is literally like this:
Camera button
Metal bar
Little ghetto fix
Back piece plastic
There is nothing in-between, and nothing holding it there other than the pressure of the case squeezing it. I didn't want to permanently modify the case. It's just a two pieces of packing cardboard taped together, but anything could be used.
It sits behind where the button is pressed, so it couldn't possibly interfere with the button, and it sits under the back plate of the phone, so it can be taken out if you just pop the back plate off.

Take the back cover off, battery out, SD card out.
Size T5 Torx screwdriver for the 4 corner screws, 2 NO:000 phillips-head screws for the middle two.
Then take a credit card and run it around the corners, and they just pop loose.
You shouldn't have to apply any force to remove it.
To do it though, you do have to break the little "security seal" that's on the bottom right torx screw. They put it there so they can tell if someone has opened up their phone.

Ive owned mine for 2 days & have 7 day disassemble rule so next week I will get it done.
I was under the impression there was supposed to be 2 clicks with the camera button anyway. the first click focus's the camera and the second takes the photo.
Am I missing something?
btw, wish you would of looked a lil more at the 3d-2d switch and seen the reasoning for its loose play front to back. The thing is tight switching from top to bottom(3d->2D) but has lotta play front to back it seems.

You 2 are correct, that 2 click system is there for a reason. One to focus and the 2nd to actually take the picture, much like all digital cameras.

Might be that way, but I feel like it's much more responsive now. Before it would be wobbly and take a few presses before it would actually work, or I'd have to hold the button for a bit. Now the button is much snappier.
The switch isn't loose at all now, it requires a bit of force to move the switch either way. There is a clear click sound whenever it gets pressed either way.

No LEDs.. It appears to be a strip of Electroluminescent Paper or a bit LCD back-lighting without the LCD-ness. My bet is on the latter.
(Sorry, by this point everything is glued to hell... so I had to move to destructive disassembly)

i was triyng to look for that "soft spot" on the back right which if pushed, caused the LED discoloration..there appears to be A LOT between the actual screen and the back plate, and it's symmetrical...yet the left side didn't have hte same soft spot the right did.
that's what caused my blue dot issue..but judging from these pics, there's alot between the back and the screen..so man, even lightly pushing that spot showed the discoloration..
I thought I was the only one with the blue dot issue, I sent mine back to Wal-Mart & they sent me a new one thank goodness. My bluish blush spot was about 1/2" above the home button & a little off to the left.

That is exactly where the magnet for the rear speaker is.
I tore a part my evo lte when replacing the screen. The DNA looks like it was designed by brilliant engineers. The evo, in comparison, looks like it was designed by a carpenter.

There are LEDs, they just are not on the LCD assembly, they are on the front side of the speaker board on bottom. I took my DNA apart and posted pictures of it all a while ago on droidforums, i posted link bellow, you can see the LEDs (there is two of them) on the front side picture of the speaker board which goes on bottom.

yes the first picture you linked is correct. Those two leds on bottom are the LEDs for the touch buttons. Trust me the light goes through lol, that bluish white film or whatever color it is, is tinted and light passes through it. Try holding a flash light behind it. They tint it so the light doesnt just shine right through and look ugly, this way it has a even spread and isnt blinding. Even though id rather have mine a little brighter.
I was able to adjust their brightness with this app..

my galaxy camera takes really bad quallity pics... i compared it to another galaxy 2 device and here are the results:
i've attached the images to this post, although the site zipped them but still the diffrence is very disnictive.
my device is updated to the latest android version and the lens isnt cover with dirt or anything,
also it wasnt allways like that- but im not sure when the problem started.
the problem is much much worse when i cativate the flash. its like the phone forgot how to calculate and spread the light...

Are you sure there isn't any dust inside the camera cover glass? Cause I had a similar problem and it was due to the dust entering from head phone Jack to my camera space.

No no. Just look through the outer cover. Do you see the lens to be clean or does some dust blur your lens of the camera.

I have attached a photo of my lens. It's not so clear but u should see 2 rings somewhat clearly. Tell me if yours is clear as this pic.

You gotta open it and clean it yourself or go to a service centre. I prefer service centre though. Cause this isn't a software problem. That's how it was for me. I guess it's the same for you.
I have used the phone for a while now and realised there was a black spot on the photos and videos. But if I take a "live focus" photo there isnt a black spot. Also when I zoom in the black spot goes away. Is that damage to the lense or the camera unit?
The first pic is with the live focus mode, 2nd one is the normal and in the 3rd pic i zoomed on the black spot.

1. When the phone is in idle screen off state, in order to turn it on using fingerprint do you need to physically press the button (click) or just rest your finger on the sensor and it will turn on?
2. Do you have any idea where the NFC antenna is physically inside the phone? Top part middle or bottom part? I am looking to buy a case with a piece of metal in the middle and wanted to check if this will interfere with NFC.

1. You don't need to click the power button to activate the finger print scanner, its just like the fp scanners that are positioned on th rear panel and works just as well I find. It does click as a button too if used that way but doesn't need to to trigger the fp scanner.
2. Not sure about this one sorry. I have the 9s which doesn't have NFC.

1. You can do both, there's an option in settings. By default, you don't have to press it.
2. Seems to be right under the camera module. Take a look at a disassembly of the phone and cross check with the case you want to buy.
I know for sure that in my joyeuse device nfc is around camera. Whole camera module is literally in the middle of the wire.

Yep it's clear back.
Now I would do things little bit differently, as you can see dust can get inside.
As to how hard was it. If you are familiar with repairing of phones and de-gluing glass backs then it's pretty easy. Glass back is glued much more than I've seen on other phones, but it's doable.
Thin film glued to glass from underneath is really easy to remove, no specialized tools nor paint stripper needed.
