There is a separate Q&A thread and there are so many posts regarding battery issues and heating problems. I suggest you first search for what you're looking for and if you don't find what you're looking for, then you can start a new thread. This helps keeping the fourm clean with less spam/duplicate posts.
Anyway regarding your question, to what temperature does your phone get heated up to? I suggest you use a battery monitor widget like bad ass battery monitor to check your temperature. My SGS3 heats up to 50°c with just 1 hour of continuous gaming or web browsing.
Here is a thread regarding this. Hope this helps

Suddenly my phone takes up to 20 hours to complete charge. What's the problem? Charger or battery?

Custom rom?
First thing to try is to wipe battery stats when it's fully charged.
If that didn't fix it, ask around and switch chargers with someone.
A new battery is the last option being that it's the most expensive solution and the hardest to test.

Check kernel wakelocks using better bettery if you find "usb bus active" then this is your problem.

Your phone may heat/warm up while flashing, this is normal but excessive Overheating can damage your battery but I don't think it shouldn't be too hot to damage your phone except you are microwaving it.
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
alright thanks!

I would flash back to a stock ROM and start there. Make sure it is not hardware before you start changing software settings.
Can i flash a stock rom with 9% with odin mobile lol

I'd try putting it on USB charge first. It might just be your charger has gone US rather than anything to do with the phone OS or software. Looking at those first screenshots I'm wondering about the 'discharging' 'charging' going on. To me that sugests the charger itself is not staying on charge mode.
The SIII gets 'stuck' sometimes says Samsung, they said it was a software issue so hopefully they'll fix it soon
Possible temp fix: turn off phone (works 90% of time for me)

Flashed stock ics an hr ago and I'm up to 30% that's the highest it's gotten to in the last 24 hrs. So think it's safe to say I'm back in business.
Very strange behaviour though!

I think that your charger is bad. Try some rooted jb os with latest siyah kernel, then try to charge your phone with usb. Latest syiah kernel have tweaked usb charge to 900mA. You have managed to recharge a little bit because ics has weaker wireless than jb.
Sory for my bad english
Cant be bad charger because I've tried 2.
As soon as I flashed stock t-mobile ics the charging went back to the way it should be.
Was running latest overcome jb. Was working fine. Something must of gotten corrupted?
Only thing that fixed it was flashing stock.
Anyway crisis averted. Just glad Im not having to send it away to samsung.
