My DNA just has the Voice service after connecting to WiFi over night. The first thing I need to do after leaving home is flight mode on and off to get the phone back on the carrier's network data. It is annoying, Am I the only one here?

I get the same problem. I have also experienced "preparing sim card" messaged several times. I hope the OTA update helps, I have not had the chance to install it as I am currently studying abroad.

Have you tried in gsm only mode? I have same problem and preparing SIM card issue doesn't come up in 2g mode. I was reading this kind of issue is produced most likely by a faulty 3g antenna.

I experience this problem frequently too. Not sure if there really is a fix for it. Toggling between airplane mode works for some people, reseating the SIM card, gently erasing the back of the sim card, applying 2 layers of tape to the sim card tray to keep the card seated appropriately, exchanging for a new SIM, putting phone into airplane phone and removing sim than replacing sim card, remove sim card than boot into recovery and clear cache and dalvik, etc.. yes I've tried most of these but to no avail. The OTA update may have helped a little I am not sure. Most believe it is a hardware issue that really can't be permanently fixed. If anything else is found let us know. Such an annoying problem that totally ruins this amazing phone.
There's different issues being discussed here. It sounds like you're having the issue where you need to toggle airplane or network sometimes when switching between networks or from WiFi to mobile data.
It's not device specific, there's some decent articles on it and in the early days we thought it was a Verizon issue. But it's actually a Sprint problem too I learned on accident when I was trolling their forums.
When the network is activated, on a device with a SIM card on Verizons network, the preparing SIM notification is actually describing a process very similar to *228 back in the olden days before LTE that was done when first activating a device on the CDMA network. The LTE network is different in that everytime it connects to the network is does that SIM activation process.
I know on my networks here, there's a changeover in one place it happens about 50 percent of the time.
If that's what is happening to you and toggling airplane fixes it, I think it's an LTE/network symptom and not due to a faulty device.
However I have a device I'm about to warranty with a hardware failure I'm thinking. It gets data great but absolutely no voice ever, never had an incoming call or anything. Or made an outgoing call in the month I've had it. It doesn't bother me I didn't buy this thing to talk on, but I'm donating the device so I'm going to have it fixed.
Anyway, from all the OP has posted so far, I'm not feeling like it's a hardware or device issue, however as more info develops that opinion may evolve.

U r the man Charlie. I am having an identical issue as op. And based on occurrences relevant to location it seems that this is only an issue when under 4g service-atleast for me-. Toggling airplane mode reactivates SIM as u said and restores full functionality. However, I have noticed the time needed to pass for said issue to reoccur is significantly shorter unless a full restart is preformed. If fastboot is enabled the issue persists. My question is this; if this is a network issue -which I'm sure it is at least in part- what software wise -if anything- could be going on a full restart fixes?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I'm a gsm user and I'm having the issue in a non 4g lte network. I have preparing SIM card every couple of minutes. If I toggle to gsm only mode everything is perfect, not even a single issue. Looking to the logcat, when the error comes up, it shows a message about ICCID number doesn't match stored one and then invalid radio technology. Is this software or hardware? I'm really confused. I've already tried everything from software side, kernels, radios, roms, RUU to stock.

Anyone else had a problem with losing the ability to call and text? I had no problems until last night now it says I'm not registered on a network I have tried reconnecting but says it's unable to. Also had a sim swap with O2 and still no joy. I think I may have to send the phone back for replacement. Odd thing though I still have full data capability.

I have this exact same error, on the same network. Got my S3 last week, locked to Orange. Paid £18 to have it unlocked and didn't work at all. At first I couldn't even get the phone to recognize the SIM so I replaced the SIM/Micro SD tray. Now it picks up SIM cards but just doesn't register them to any network. Would be good if there is an easy fix to this, although it seems like an antenna problem which would be very difficult and expensive to fix since the antenna for calls lies on the main board. Most other parts can be replaced relatively cheaply and with ease.
I use my HTC Legend as a backup phone (well planned to anyway). It is s-off, rooted and running cm7 (same thing happened on cm9 and 10). The phone initially was working fine - however one time the phone's battery was running low so decided to shove on airplane mode. I simply could not turn this off - when attempting to disable, nothing would happen and would just stay on. It took me numerous different wipes of the phones data/everything i could think of plus flashing multiple roms until i could get out of airplane mode. It again worked for a while - however, since this isnt my main phone there isnt always a sim card in it. I tried using the phone this weekend - when inserting the sim and turning the phone on - boof! airplane mode activated and unable to disable.
Has anyone else experienced such issues ?
I'm using a micro-sim card with a simcard adaptor in the phone. Could this somehow be triggering this ?

That is such a strange problem. When I was in the States, I overheard some people complain that their SGSIIIs (and one guy's SGSII) would randomly turn on Airplane Mode whenever they dropped signal or service. The SGSII guy could resolve the issue by doing a battery pull. All of them were on Verizon.
I can't really think of any other triggers to this problem. Do you have any apps that are allowed to turn Airplane Mode on automatically? Tasker? Some new CM7 Power Saving feature?
I run a MicroSIM card in my Legend with an adapter as well, this is my second MicroSIM with this phone. I don't believe that would be an issue.
Unless for some reason the SIM was not an actual MicroSIM but rather a regular SIM cut quite poorly, or in any circumstance disallowed the SIM to behave like it usually should, therefore cutting the signal and activating the Airplane Mode glitch like the others above have had.

Thanks heaps for your fast response - i wish it was as simple as a battery pull! haha - and nope only have about 3 apps on the phone (ebay, facebook and tapatalk) hmm ill try if i can grab a normal sim card to test - as my micro-sim was cut down from a normal sim - however ive had no other issues on other phones.
If not ill try flash a stock rom if i can find one.Thanks.
Yep! seems it's my sim card - just tried using a standard sim and all worked fine! strange considering initially it was working fine.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Ouch. Maybe you can ask your carrier to issue a new standard sim so you can try cutting it again without incident this time.
Or, if possible, try to buy a brand new microsim straight from the carrier. That would be the best and economical plan of action.

Does anyone experience random losses of data connectivity? Sometimes I just can't browse the internet. If I reboot the phone, then it works. Cycling the data off and then on doesn't do it. I have to reboot. I am running stock everything, but unlocked bootloader.

Stock browser quits working on me sometimes. It won't load a page, I just click recents, close it out and reload it and it is fine.
Yeah, I'm getting the same thing. I also get the random Sim error that also requires a reboot to fix. It seems to be happening more frequently now, so I may be making a trip to at&t tomorrow.

If you take a trip, let me know what they say. I haven't gotten the SIM errors, but definitely losing data. Closing and re-opening the browser has not solves it for me.
I was thinking of trying a different ROM, but still close to stock.

I didn't, mine came pre-loaded in the phone, but I wasn't getting the SIM errors, it was the person above. I looked at ROM's but couldn't decide on one. I think I will try deleting the APN, and creating a new one, and see how that goes for a while.
I'm getting the same thing.
Yes, this happens to me too sometimes when I pass by some particular area, not always but sometimes. And when this happen, it sometimes get back to Norman but sometimes it don't. I have to reboot (as you said) this don't seems to be a problem in phone but with the service provider. I losses signals in that area
And I am from India and this happens in an almost village area

As I expected they first tried to replace my SIM. I was still having the data drop issue and did once again get the SIM error, even though it doesn't happen every time. I was not losing signal like this with my Nexus 5. I finally got an AT&T phone rep to send me out a new device. I could tell the reps in the warranty center didn't believe me...

I get this too. I've checked all my data settings but for some reason it doesn't always sync on mobile data. As soon as I get home on Wi-Fi I get a bunch of messages at once. Checked all my data settings can't seem to figure it out. Stock ROM rooted and soff. Att phone unlocked using on telus in Canada.
Ok, I've had issues with this phone that began with a bad battery. I got a new battery through insurance and my problems continued, even worsened. The phone will lose network connection constantly. It will reboot on it's own or during use. This is the only way it will obtain network connection once lost.... I went to at&t a million times and they flashed it for me a few times, replaced my SIM card three timesthis month and no luck. I decided to be brave and root it with cyanogenmods latest 4.4.2 kitkat (which I love, props to them) and it still continues to do the same crap! It's getting old and im beginning to think it must be a hardware issue, but I read about flashing a modem for the phone. Does anyone know if this might solve the problem or is it likely a hardware malfunction?
It seems to cause the most issues when im not on wifi or when LTE is activated.
Tried the *#*#4636#*#* code to change the connectivity settings but the only option im allowed to use is the lte/gsm auto (PRL).
Any advice is appreciated.... my next option is shooting it with my shotgun and using it as a conversational piece at the office.... maybe a

Could be a modem issue, could be as simple as changing you APN settings. Where is your location? Could be affecting you a bit. Run a search, many have had this issue.

I live in central Arkansas and I'm not exactly sure how to check my APN settings...?? And if it's a common issue based on location, why does AT&T not recommend a solution to anyone with problems? Or do they and I just don't know?
I've ran this phone on straightalk 3g for about a year. Recently upgtaded to a lte sim and loose signal a lot since. Miss calls. Don't get text. I have read certain art lte towers have this problem. Sounds good since my wife's s4 has same problem. Both phones ran fine and got calls on 3g sims

I found the settings directly through the AT&T website but theyb only povide 4G HSPA+ settings.. which are not LTE.
Follow this steps and check if your APN settings match, and if they don't then just create a new profile with the settings in this link:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...ogle-nexus-5-t-lte-apns-network-settings.html
Techinically, this settings are stated to be for the Nexus 5, but the APN are carrier based, so regardless if it states Nexus 5 APN settings they would still work for our OG Note
You should be able to get to your settings by going to settings / wireless data & networks ---more / mobile networks --- Access Point Names
Hope this helps!
Hey all,
I am hoping somebody can guide me in regards to an issue I am facing.
I was working on my car a few days back and left the Elephone S8 on the car seat not realizing that it was being hit directly by the sun. After I was done, I picked up the phone and it was very very hot. I then went inside and let the phone cool off.
Since the above, I notice that I struggle to pick up reception. I have tried different firmware, replaced sim cards, everything. It seems to only be affecting certain MHZ bands as 4G LTE work, 3G works fine, and 2G works find but not always.
I have a feeling the 2G is having issues but maybe only certain bands. I do not think it is software related but have no idea where to even start on the hardware side. I first want to try scan for towers and see which bands they use and try see which one could be giving the issue. I don't expect it to just be a lose connector as the phone has not been dropped and I have only been using it for 2 weeks. If I do send it back under warranty for repairs, they will never pick up this issue.
Elephone S8 loss of network issue
Hi.
I think is a hardware issue as the same thing happened to me after 3 weeks perfect use.
I think has nothing to do with the sun as for me happened on a snowy Sunday 10th of December in London.
I suddenly noticed that when sending email the sending would start fast and after a 2-3 seconds the network will drop to 3G and stay like that for long time until the mail app stops sending process and the phone goes back to LTE 4G.
Also when dialling a number the phone will drop from 4G to 3G and than loose the connection straight away.
When indoors the phone would have trouble registering to network for ages without success.
I picked up 4 different pay as you go cards to make shure that is not my network but still no success.
All documented in the support ticket to GB and yesterday have send it back for a refund.
I really like the phone but i am reluctant to buy another if the issue persist so will wait and see.
Hope some more comments will follow to highlight the problem and influence a solution to this.
Cheers
I have the same issue - my wireless connection inside my home keeps dropping and connecting off and on again and again - I have two routers and maybe as I move from room to room it tries to connect to the closest router or something like that - not sure if there is a way to fix it without doing something in the routers.

Same problem here
My network problems are a little different. I don't have problems connecting to different wifi networks (home and work) but the phone does not activate mobile data when leaving a wifi network. I always have to restart the phone when I want to use mobile data (3G).
Kind of the same problem. Have my S8 for about a month. First it has a wifi network. When I leave the place where it is connected to wifi, it goes to 4G. But when I come back to a place with WIFI, the phone does not find any WIFI network. I have to reboot the phone. Soft reboot(a little faster) will also do/work.

I have the same problems with stock rom and eragon rom. I don't have a solution but I'm still hoping for a new update.
For now I found out that turning flight mode on and off again helps to switch between wifi and mobile data, so it is not necessary to reboot the phone every time.
I can confirm as well that Eragon won't resolve 3G / 4G network issues.
I'm using my S8 for a week now with only one problem, call related.
No wifi problems but after one day of usage I couldn't use mobile data anymore I almost re-flashed my phone (unlocked bootloader, rooted and using Xposed). Turned out my provider f*cked things up. Probably because Elephone is a not known brand here. It took me some time to convince the agent on the phone that I do not own a Samsung S8 lol.
Problem was solved at the providers end.

This information sounds interesting. How did you manage to 'convince' the providers agent that it is not Samsung? And what did you tell it instead?
Steve the issue you have is different. Your issue won't be resolved that way.
You would need an app that switches to 3G/4G if WiFi is not connected.
Happy too soon. After one day with mobile data it's gone again. There's a cross in the lower right corner of the mobile data icon in the status bar. I'll be calling my provider again tomorrow morning.

I'm not sure if the fact that I own a brand that is unknown here causes the mobile data problems. The problems I'm running into atm are
- mobile data problems, 4G is connected, but no internet
- fingerprint scanner doesn't work with my banking app
- backlight bleed in the middle of my screen
- after 3 out of 4 calls, phone freezes for about 30 seconds
- rattle in fingerprint scanner
I guess I'm about to find out how good the return policy at Banggood is ?
I highly recommend that you return the phone now.
There are so many issues with the phone that it's just not worth the time.
Hi guys, I just got the phone, but mobile data is not working. Am I missing something?
Can you attach a screenshot
screenshots: https://photos.app.goo.gl/1XdRma9YJacb4b2b2
Does your sim card work in another phone? If so, are the apn settings the same?
I managed to resolve the issue.
I'm trying to figure what went wrong at start. When I got a phone I inserted both SIM cards like this:
SIM 1 - my business phone number - provider 1
SIM 2 - my personal phone number - provider 2
I wanted to use data only on my personal phone number, so I disabled data on business number. What happened is my business SIM downloaded APN info on first boot (i assume), and then my personal SIM used this APN (which was incorrect).
To resolve issue I first inserted my personal SIM to slot 1 alone and booted. Then I changed APN profile to match my old phone's, turned off phone and inserted my business SIM to slot 2 and booted.
Now data works fine. Obviously there was APN issue but how come that phone didn't get correct APN settings per SIM?
Thanks for support!
