Can't figure this out hopefully someone smarter than I can.. when I open my browser it always opens to about blank.. google is set as my homepage but I have to click the browser and type google in it everytime .. I don't get it
Menu....settings....general....set home page.
You can enter any domain as your home page there.
This is my signature....
Yes says Google is set as my homepage but it only opens to about blank
Delete thread ..I cleared data in internet app that fixed it .. another brain fart moment
thanks i was tryn to figure out why every new page,,,dirtbagged me into a blank about blank page,,
I'm in the same boat that OP was in prior to his solution.
But to be honest, I kind of like it like that. Reason being is I run the about:debug URL command every so often to ensure I am using a Desktop UA Script. It's just easier for me to type debug than the whole line but maybe I will take your advice and wipe the apps data just for the sake of it to get my homepage loading.
Worked for me! Thanks!

Hi Everyone,
First of all I apologies for my bad English.
I got my Gen8 5 days ago and I use it mainly for my work.
I can access some files in my company's internal website by clicking some "icon".
It works fine on my PC/netbook, when I click on the "icon", it pop up a window and ask me to open / save / cancel. And I got the file I want.
But when I using android system, it end up saved a .htm file without asking me open / save / cancel. and the htm file is small and nothing like the file I open in PC.
what I found/did :
1) my company's internal website use .jsp
2) I can bypass this problem on my android phone by using opera mini (HTC Desire), but it doesn't work if I use opera mini on Gen8
3) because I saw .jsp, therefore I also tried install GZL-Jbed-2.2.apk, but it didn't help either.............
4) I tried all kinds of browser that could be download on the market, but none of them works.............
I had been working on this problem for 5 days and I give up......... anyone knows why it works on Desire but not on Gen8? How can I fix it?
Thank you very much.
OH, some more info.
1) I cannot use right click on my company's internal website
2) I cannot ask for help from my company's IT staff because the site works perfectly fine on PC & ipad, the IT staff just told me to get an ipad........
Try to long press (hold your finger on) the icon, then select "save link" from the menu. It probably won't work if the link actually ends in .jsp though.
Instead of trying to download, select to open. It is probably calling a HTML page that starts the download. So if you open the page you should then download the file.
At least that is what it sounds like from your description...
A possible problem is if you told it "always do this action" by selecting that check box the first time you tried this. I don't know how to undo that kind of saved setting...maybe someone else can point you in that direction.

thx.
I just found out, when I put my mouse on the icon (before I click), I saw
javascripterform( xxxxxx, xxxxxx)
would it help????
The problem cannot be in JSP because it is a server-side language. The problem is usually a limited rendering motors that cannot interpret some Javascript code.
Hi All
I've googled this issue ive been having countless times, but to no avail. The problem is the following:
Ive just gotten my new xperia ray. I use the stock browser because its fast and basic. I often use the address bar for googling as I used to with my X10(both gingerbread). With my X10 I used to get the results displayed in the mobile google webpage. With my Ray, it doesnt do that. It gives me google search results, but displayed with a "powered by google" heading, and very limited access to things like images etc.
This is extremely annoying because I now need to first go to the google website before and search there if I want my search results displayed properly with the option of switching to image results. Some idiot at the sony factory thought he was smart and added this usesless stock setting.
I assume I somehow need to specify the settings of my stock search engine. All I get in settings is yahoo, bing and google. Nothing more and no more settings. Obviously google is selected as the stock search.
I hope theres someone out there who can give me some advice. I fear that otherwise this is going to piss me off untill ICS.

There is a help thread
Just change 'View Google in' on the bottom of the search page. Should fix it.
Thanks for the reply, but I think you might be misunderstanding. I dont want to view it in desktop mode, I want to view it in the normal mobile mode not the mode where it substitutes the normal google links (like images, maps etc) for a "powered by google heading"
I want to be able to search for say "cat", get all the web search results for cat and then have the image link availible so that I cab look at images of cats if I want to.
Atm I have to either go to the google website first to get the same results. If I search straight into the address box, I get the silly "powered by google" result.

AFAIK, it is not happening with mine. I got some tabs at the top to search another type (like image) Maybe you can try to log in to your google account first from browser, and then when you do a searching, try to find setting link from that page. I haven't tried it but if i remember correctly, with google account attached to your browser you might get what you want for.
Ok folks, this might seem like an odd request, and I hope I'm posting this in the right place...
Long story short, old laptop was fired up and Chrome sync'd and wrecked my bookmarks on my desktop PCs. The bookmarks on my Nexus in Chrome haven't sync'd up to the server yet and contain all the bookmarks I've lost. I'm looking for a way to extract them from my phone and try to port them back to my desktop.
ANY help would be appreciated. I'm running stock ICS, but I am unlocked and rooted.
I also have a Titanium Backup that should hopefully also contain a valid back up of the data.
I have been searching the web all morning and haven't found any suggestions on this yet.
Thanks in advance!
Try this app, it exports the bookmarks into a html file (it can be easily imported to Chrome ).
That's really cool, my only problem is it's looking at the default browser's bookmarks and not the Chrome bookmarks. LOL I don't see an option to change it.
Thanks.

Hmm... you're right
Are you sure that Chrome doesn't have an option to export the bookmarks? (Go to Bookmarks, and press the Menu button to check it )
Yes, sadly I have tried that a few different times. I also dug around in the file system to see if I could find the chrome settings but didn't have any luck.
That's weird, dude... i tried it right now, and I can see the Export option
At this point I have no more ideas (I'm assuming that you have searched in the internal memory)
You have an export option in chrome beta from your android device? I don't on my nexus. I did dig deeper into the titanium back up I pulled today and I found the bookmarks file! Now I need to get google sync to stop overwriting them! I'm trying to avoid deleting all my sync'd data in my google dashboard for chrome!
Yes, but I tried with a hacked version (I have an ARMv6 processor)... anyways, I'm glad that you found solution to your problem (you done the most difficult part )
Regards!
Hah, I think the most difficult part is yet to come. To convince google's servers that these are the bookmarks to propagate and not all the old ones that it keep's sync'ing in!
Thanks for your help.

Hey guys, did a quick Google search on this and didnt see any answers to this bizarre quirk.
I am on non-rooted ICS (stock) - no comments from the peanut gallery about this. Once CM is stable enough that I feel I can use it, Ill switch.
Now, on to the problem.
I installed Chrome and set it to the default browser (but Ill probably change it considering what Im about to post) and set the home page to google.
I begin typing a search query, for example, 'Samsung AT&T No' and Google presents some suggestions of what it thinks Im going to actually search for. Tapping ANY of these suggestions hides the suggestion list and does NOT fill in my query with the suggestion I tapped. In addition, the keyboard is also hidden until I tap in the query edit field again.
In addition, Id like to just state for the record, xda is TERRIBLE on mobile (the website). I dont know what this new 'theme' is but it is barely functional on mobile, on the desktop, the website is completely broken in Firefox (14.0.1 w/ No Script and Tree Style Tabs plugins installed - and yes, I am enabling scripting for XDA).
So, I have reverted to the old xda theme until this is fixed.
BUT, does anyone know what is wrong with Chrome?
Is Chrome out of beta?
if you click the arrow next to the auto complete search query it will fill it in for you.

Yeah I was having this same issue. I am rooted and using the stock browser, same goes for the google search widget. But the answer above solves the problem.

Hello, xda noob here. I hope this is the appropriate forum to be posting in...
I've scoured the internets looking for an answer and haven't been able to find one. I want to know if there's a way to force Chrome to always open up a new browser tab when opening a link from an app. For example: I frequently use the reader app, and when I click on a link to open in Chrome, it opens it in the same tab as the one for the last link that I clicked. Furthermore, the browsing history isn't saved so I can use the back button to view what I have opened before.
Is there a way to force Chrome to always open up a new tab when I click on a link? Thanks in advance.
(BTW, I'm on a rooted Nexus 4,but I'm not sure that's relevant)
Not sure about the opening tab part (sorry lol) but I do know that if you type in chrome://history it gives you your history
