I had a JI6 build from XDA on my phone, because it did not have HAC I had to take it off because i could not hear anything. I downloaded the stock 2.1 firmware and used clockwork recovery to load it, however it just sits at a black screen now. I can boot into recovery mode and I tired to apply update.zip but it says
"E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip"
Can anyone help?
I think the only fix for that is to odin back to stock.

You need to odin as JI6 uses a different kernel and nandroid doesn't replace the kernel. Use any odin flash and that should solve your problems.
Used ODIN and worked like a charm. Thank you XDA and the amazing community!
NVM Still a blank screen. It posts the stock boot but after that it just stay black screen.

Kinda just had this happen to me today too.
Download and flash Eugene's Froyo That does'nt brick ... Make sure you follow the directions exactly.
From here, reboot into recovery, wipe your phone then get back into DL mode and odin flash your JI6 .tar, I like this one. If you get some force closes (I got A LOT), just fix permissions.
Now for MHO, stock JI6 sucks, i would use bionix1.8

any way to boot into recovery before I put the battery in?
such as getting into download mode before the battery is in?

not that i know of. what happens when you put your battery in?
here's what happened to me:
when i put the battery in while plugged in, it went straight to recovery with red errors
put the battery in and powered on, same result.
plugged in, vol+&- pressed, put battery in, straight to DL mode.
So I went to Odin my phone back to stock JI6 in Odin and I used the tar and pit file and select re-partition to wipe everything. Everything went fine and it rebooted, but now it brings me to the Recovery menu and says:
e:Can't mount /dev/block/st110 (Invalid argument"
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATE:
copy default media content failed.
I've tried to reboot into download mode via the keys, and through adb, but I can't get there to install the OS...
Any help?
Thanks!

1.) Make sure you are using something that is NOT 'Odin3 1.0' the best versions are 'Odin3 1.3 & Odin3 1.7' IMO
2.) Make sure you are using JFD Stock to odin back.

You don't reinstall packages.
Just use JFD that is the one that is most likely to work. Not all work for everyone.
JI6 doesn't work for me.
To use Odin, you go into download mode. You don't use recovery.

So you are hardware locked? The following MAY or MAY NOT work...
1.) Turn off your phone, remove battery/sim/micro SD
2.) Press & Hold the VOL UP+VOL DOWN
3.) Plug your phone into your computer (Keep holding those buttons)
4.) Download mode should pop up.

I shouldn't be hardware locked, I flashed the file to get rid of the hardware lock before I used Odin earlier and was able to get into Recovery via the buttons (didn't try download though.. DOH!)
I was able to get into download mode now, though, and am flashing JI6 while JFD downloads (very slowly). JI6 finished and same error... Will wait for JFD to be done.
Thank you very much, Master. Merry Christmas.
I'm all set now. Thank you for all your help, Master.

I have a Galaxy S with this error, I am trying to flash the DDJP6 firmware with ODIN, I had checked the repartition by mistake and got this error, don't know what to do now.
Hello everyone, if your reading this you likely have the error mentioned above. Recently, a friend of mine came to me with this same problem. I looked long n hard and every link I found was broken. Every odin file I needed was removed. I even noticed that eugene kindly took down his odin to stock package...that was pretty cool of him At any rate, I still had eugenes odin to froyo zip luckily, I tried flashing this normaly thru odin and got the same error. What ended up working for my buddys phone was, using eugenes odin package and putting a check in "re-format" in odin. That fixed it right up. If your having the same errors, please feel free to contact me. Id be happy to link you or do anything else in power to help. This worked like a champ! Good luck. If this helped ya, please feel free to hit my thanks button. I only have 3!
JFD is the only one that carries all the necessary files for the check-repartition ODIN install...
Something to do with flashing both bootloaders.

Nope, nothing to do with bootloaders. It has to do with jfd being the only realeased odin package that contains dbdata.rfs of the .tar. None of the other ones do.

I went to partition my sd card through rom manager, I have all the files on my computer (all different versions since November). It went into recovery, mounted sd, was formatting and next thing I knew it is stuck on the overstocked logo. I am running Trigger 3.0 & flashed in overstocked (through rom manager) and themed with a splash of color with other modifications.
The thing is, is that I also have the vibrant galaxy s 4g and was using the 16gb sd for both until my 32 came in and realized, not a good idea. So until the 32 came in I decided to just work on this phone but wanted to get any signs of the 4g off this phone so was cleaning it up and now here I am.....
Read the threads here and have gotten into the download mode, with nothing to download but it goes right back to the "overstocked" logo or bouncing to the "vibrant" logo and battery sign.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I used Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo.tar.md5, and s1_odin_20100512.pit. I checked re-partition and left F. reset time and auto reboot checked. This solved the e:Can't mount /dev/block/st110 error. Idk if this will work for everyone, but using the exact same files but without re-partition checked left the same error, checking it fixed the error. Just thought Id share my results because that can be a very frustrating error which in my friends case caused fc's all over the place, while booting up and a bunch of apps as well.
So I just bought an at&t i717 note off eBay that was run over by a car or something. I pulled the logicboard out and swapped it into my note to test it and its working 100% so far. Problem is the seller had it locked with a pattern and now won't contact me. So I thought I could get the phone into recovery and do a factory reset or something, not even sure that would work.
Now I also can't get into recovery. No matter what I tried. I flashed a stock rom via odin, still nothing. I tried to root the phone and flash CWM and still the same thing....
When I try to enter recovery it goes immediately to the download screen. Any help would be great I need to get this puppy cracked. I'm pretty new to android so it's tough to know what to do.
Thanks :good:
Hold both volume buttons down when trying to get into recovery.
still stuck
Just flashed another stock ATT rom, this one was ICS. Then I flashed cwm recovery and still just goes to the download screen! Getting pissed.
If I wasn't locked out of the phone I could get ROM manager and boot into recovery..
Any help would be great!
Definitely holding both UP and DOWN volume buttons. I've tried multiple times and still same result.
OK I am thinking the volume UP on this logic board is not working...

Here it is again...just in case someone else's having the same issue
Why don't you give this a shot....
If you are willing to unroot and root again, here's what I've been doing to return to stock.
1 - Put phone in "Download Mode" - phone connected to PC
2 - Start Samsung Kies (make sure you have the latest.....)
3 - From Kies, click on tools then "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization"
4 - You will be prompted to enter ESN and model number (it is ok to pull the battery out to get ESN and Model - phone won't die with battery pulled at that point)
5 - And follow the prompts
The process does take some time. I have successfully done this many times with success.
Try it out to see if that might help you.
Glad it worked.
hi all,
im new to the forum but read up on here lots of times. i reluctantly have to now beg for help as im at my wits end here. i rooted my s3 phone a month ago after it kept crashing with the stock samsung fw on it. So i rooted and used odin 3 to install cm-10.0.0-d2att.zip. this was great for two month then all of a sudden, no reason the phone kept restarting and not getting past the samsung logo screen again, yes the phone has issues so i then wanted to install the stock firmwre and use triangle app to zero the counter. stupidity on my part i foolishly loaded the wrong file and loaded cm-10.1-20130504-nightly-i9100.zip . great firmware but not what i wanted.
so i installed the custom one which kept aborting loading from external sd saying something about unable to verify signature. i have also tried to load the origional custom firmware cm-10.0.0-d2att.zip but nothing will load now. and no firmware will load and again it wont get past the logo screen. My only saving grace is that i can still get into downloading mode and the boot mode with the up key.
Please please help if you can
Sincerely
Fei
Try flashing a stock Samsung rom via odin from your pc, if that doesn't work then probably a new motherboard is required.

That's the stock recovery. I don't believe that will flash firmware, which is why you get the error, before you probably had CWM.
As said before, go to download mode and flash a stock rom from sammobile through odin, if it doesn't work. I think it may be bricked (someone more experienced may disagree though)

thanks mate. ill try now
I'll first list specs of my phone so it gives you some information you might need to help me solve my problem.
Verizon Galaxy S4
Android 4.3 MK2
Download mode works properly. Phone will not turn on unless it is plugged in via micro USB. Recovery mode boot loops.
(Recovery mode) I hold volume up and power after I plug in the micro usb to turn the phone on, and it shows the samsung logo, and the blue text pops up in the corner and says "Recovery Booting". After about 2 seconds of it showing that, it'll just black screen and repeat this boot loop of the samsung logo popping up and the blue text as if I have the recovery keys held down.
What led up to all of this is, my phone crashed and it turned off and tried to reboot, and crashed during the reboot. That's where I ran into the problem with the phone not turning on unless it was plugged in(battery is fully charged). At that time, if I plugged it in and didn't touch any keys, it would vibrate, and then a battery icon with a gray circle loading thing would pop up in a frozen picture. Then after about 8 seconds, it'd black screen and boot loop that. I couldn't get into Recovery at that time, but download worked fine. So then I googled a little and I flashed something onto my phone using Odin and Download mode. The file is supposed to make the default boot sequence go to recovery mode. This worked, but since Recovery mode is broken, it doesn't work entirely. After this, I didn't do anything for a day, and then I read some posts and tried flashing both a Wipe and No-wipe stock firmware MK2. Both of which did not work, since still, the phone was defaulting its boot to the broken recovery mode.
So as far as I know, the only way to do anything to the phone is through Odin and Download mode since nothing else works. I'm really hoping I'll be able to fix this, because I'd rather not pay $100 for a new phone :/
Basically what I'm asking for is what I should do next.. My only last thought is(If its possible) to wipe the phone using Odin, then putting the stock firmware back onto it. (The wipe of course getting rid of that stupid file that makes it go into recovery mode.

are you an unrooted stock ROM??
I'm sure someone smarter then me will know exactly what is going on here but things I'd try in the mean time is another Odin file possibly. I believe Surge has said that if MK2 file doesn't work to try the MJ7 full wipe/Re-Partition one. At this point what you got to lose?

I would strongly suggest the Full Wipe method back to MK2. As long as you can boot into Download mode this is probably the best way to get a clean OS working again. From there you know the drill, Saferoot, SS, etc.

Use sp flash tool and install another recovery. That will surely work. Just download sp flash tool and drivers for your device and install these files in your pc. After that download recovery.img and scatter file.txt for your device. First load the scattered file.txt using sp flash tool, now uncheck all the tick box except the recovery. Now click on recovery and select the recovery.img which you have downloaded. Now take out your phone's battery and connect it via usb cable. Make sure you have installed your phone's drivers. Click on download button on sp flash tool. If not works then remove the usb cable and reconnect again. You will see a green circle saying its done. Click on ok. And try to get into recovery again.

If he's using Safestrap, it most likely means he can't flash a recovery image. He could brick his phone.
Was just going to say that. I don't know much about that flash tool myself... Is it an alternative to Odin? From the little I read... You can flash an entire rom or just something in particular to repair a phone. Either way I don't think the OP should try that method. Stick with Odin.

+1, the only safe option is to flash a clean factory image via Odin. Otherwise say hello to your new doorstop if you mess with Recovery on MK2 locked bootloader
Flash new image >> 15-25 minutes
Root >> 2-3 minutes
SS >> 3-5 minutes
HD RLS15 (for example) >> 15 minutes
In about an hour or so phone is back up and running. No brainer..........

The thing is.. I've tried flashing new images before, and all its doing is overwriting my old one, but the stupid factory thing I flashed makes the default path the broken recovery so I don't think this will work.

I followed the directions for everything as they were given and I got the same result I've gotten after flashing anything. Everything works fine, then the big blue "RESET" icon appears on Odin, then the phone reboots, I get samsung logo, and then the blue "recovery booting" text shows up.. and then the screen blacks out, and boot loops that same thing.

Make sure you're using the Full Wipe image (SCH-I545_VZW_1_20131212083410_mwx72ql56g_fac.zip), and have extracted it to a .tar.md5
Also download the JFLTE_USA_VZW_16G.pit (assuming you have the 16GB version of the S4).
Put the .tar.md5 in the AP section and the PIT file in the PIT section.
Leave the other checkboxes in Odin at their defaults.
Take a screenshot at this point, click Start, and then take another screenshot when it completes or gives an error.

EDIT: I looked up the battery icon problem and I found some interesting news. After all of the struggling with the darn phone, this is a common problem with this phone on 4.3. Its an overheating issue to the PBA(Motherboard I think). Thanks everyone for the help, I'm just gonna send it in and get a new phone.
