[Q] Baseband compatibility? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

Hello guys, newbie here.
Recently i found out that baseband -56 improves battery life, so i flashed 4.0.2.A.0.42 on my neo V with Flashtool. The battery life much better. But now, i'm starting to miss the ICS. So,
1. Is the -56 baseband compatible with .587 ICS firmware?
2. Is there a better battery life-prolonging baseband for .587?
3. Is flashing basebands safe?
Thanks a lot.

I had flashed 77 baseband on .562 firmware.. had no problems.. i guess it will work.. didnt find any considerable battery stats though..
Flashing a baseband is risky if you dont flash it properly.. it can brick your radio and your cell will lose network forever..
Follow procedures properly given in xda development threads about flashing basebands before doing anything.. search..
Hope i fulfilled your need.. hit thanks if i did..
Sent from my Neo V using xda premium

Thank you. I think I won't flash a baseband, only flash .587 with Flashtool and check "Exclude baseband". Is that safer?

Just flashing baseband won't affect you if you use ICS!
As I've only tried switching on ICS!
You could try! But keep a backup with you beforehand

(LOCKED/UNLOCKED) Solve battery drain issue on 4.0.2.A.0.42/62 on Stock kernel (V)

When I bought my NEO it has .283 firmware and battery seems very good, but when updated to .42 firmware my battery seems drain faster even on deepsleep. I left it one night and when I saw it on the morning, battery drained about 15% in 8 hours. Its really annoying, even my old X10 can get better battery life on deepsleep with stock kernel.
And finaly I solved it, here is what I've done.
Just flash .283 kernel above .42 kernel, use flashtool to flash it.
you can use 4.0.1.A.0.283 ftf file, and flash it via flashtool.
Or simply flash provided ftf below.
You dont need an unlocked bootloader phone to flash stock kernel
just share, I've flashed baseband from .62 firmware and works great, you can try it if you want.
If you need something just ask me here. Thanks.
Cheers, Aim.

Surely its possible. You can try it and report it here mate.
Believe it or not
my neo v lasted on 1% charge for 8 hours !!
UC 652Mhz-244mhz
Thats my times profile
Under clock your CPU when not in use
Helps
Sometimes I also see battery drain, about 2% per hour. Then, restart the device is the best solution, or can also use "Titanium backup" to freeze the Google Map.
Google map sometimes drain battery on idle mode
(fw .283, .42. 62)
Flashed .283 kernel and my phone just lost 2percent whole night.

And I recommend you Antutu Battery Saver apps, its underclock your cpu automatically when you dont use it too much, very good for your battery, my battery last almost 2 days with heavy use (auto sync, browsing, and lil bit gaming)

Open flashtool, then select flash, open the .283 ftf, in the right side you can see, selectable/tickable menu > wipe user data, wipe cache, exclude system, exclude baseband, exclude kernel.
Tick exclude system and exclude baseband. And untick the rest.

Thanks mate
Baseband 56 from fw .42 is good for me in term of battery life but baseband 64 from fw .62 good in term of signal quality and overall quality.
And my best combination is bb 56 and stock .283 kernel.
Fyi, baseband is related to your region, what is good for me doesnt mean its good for you too.
Just give it a try.

Best combination is .42 baseband + .283 kernel. Epic battery life.
Can i use .283 kernel and then still install a custom Kernel ?
How can you check the version /firmware of your kernel ?
Will the version still be .283 then ?
Im new at this ^^

Neo V MT11i and MT11a Roms interchangeable?

Most of the roms I have found in XDA forumn are for MT11i. I would like someone to confirm that MT11i roms can be flashed for MT11a devices which use 850mhz baseband for its 3g, where MT11i use 900mhz baseband for its 3g. Someone please help me out. Thank you.
I would think that if you tick exclude baseband there should be no problems ;-)
If it were me I would make sure I had an original Rom to hand first and then just try it, flash the one you want to try, including baseband if you have network issues flash the baseband for the original ftf

Mt11i and mt11a are the same device just different 3g bands, you can flash mt11i firmware to mt11a and it will continue working on 3g 850, only that it will show as mt11i in device info. I have an mt15a working perfectly with mt15i firmware. It is always a good idea to have a backup of your original firmware.

Anyway, Here's FlashTool.. It includes Fastboot in the new versions so not needed
There are several kernels to try out, Munjeni's and GekTheBoss's for a sample.. You'll see them at the top of the Xperia U Development Thread. I think its simpler than me linking to it
Same goes for recovery (Personally recommend CWM Touch Recovery for Locked Bootloader )
Edit: Forgot about the Unlocking part :Check this out, seems simple enough : Unlock Bootloader for Xperia U

Sent from my ST25i using xda app-developers app
Yeah.. Just flash the FTF and it'll be fine Just make sure you use the right Baseband,ie, depeniding on ST25i or ST25a
I recommend 6.1.1.C.1.0 Its the smoothest of the 3 and although nearly same as B.1.54, tethering is broken in the latter ! In case you run ST25a phone, select the option to "Exclude Baseband" if you flash C.1.0.. Same thing with ST25i and B.1.54
Custom Roms can be installed as usual using CWM, custom kernels with Unlocked bl.etc etc

There are 2 spectrums of 3G which differ by country. the B.1.54 version is from a country which uses the GSM spectrum of ST25a. Hence, the baseband of that rom should be avoided otherwise, you wont get 3G Connectivity there, Similary, c.1.0 uses ST25i's supported baseband and hence, ignore baseband if you're using ST25a...
For you, either Flash C.1.0 directly or instead, flash B.1.54 with "Exclude Baseband" selected

Are you sure that .54 is for st25a? On this forum you can find ftf from Spain and it works fine on my st25i. I didn't exclude anything when I flashed my phone.
There was b.10 that was from Australia and it was for st25a.
Hm.. There must be multiple ftfs floating around.. The ones I have (which i think are the most common, not sure) were like that.. But I might be mistaken.. Just to be safe, when you open Flashtool, you'll see the correct f/w designated If Flashtool says its for st25i or st25a and you have the opposite device, Ignore Baseband Probably the more correct approach to it anyway Thx for pointing out my mistake
Cheers!
Wow, look at this place. This forum is a hell of a lot nicer than the Atrix section, which is filled with cynics. I just ordered this phone to replace my broken Atrix (unfixable corrupted partitions/broken wear leveller) mainly due to official ICS (which Atrix doesn't even have, lol) and the price. Currently reading through these forums so i can flash easier when it arrives. I know of FlashTool (helped a friend flash his Xperia Ray or something) and it's a very nice package.
Now done with everything flashed 1.54 and flashed brains ROM...suggest some best roms guy's
