Thinking about giving it a try..trouble is I'm in the UK and it's a bit of a risk if it's no good.
My mate has an iPhone and he has one of these:

At a guess....
The iPhone form factor isn't going to change for quite a while, so a manufacturer can tool up for a product, knowing he's going to have years of market. BUT the HTC phones are updated every few months (it seems like), always with slightly different shapes/holes/buttons, so anyone tooling up to make a decent case is going to be out of pocket pretty damn rapidly.
That's why the vast majority of cases are made in China - tooling and manufacturing is far cheaper there.

And yet a year after releasing the first model, they released the iPhone 3G which was a different shape...
And there's increasing rumours of a new model being released this year, quite possibly an 'iPhone Nano', which would be a different size again.
The simple fact of the matter is that iPhone accessories are a bigger market than HTC accessories, plus Apple customers are used to paying through the nose for accessories, so companies can get away with charging more.
They spelled ''couture'' wrong though. Suspecious.
They misspelled "suspicious". Hmm.... suspicious
Ugly , dont like it, there are more better case than that, sorry mates dont take me wrong
So over the last couple weeks I’ve been looking in to purchasing a new phone, and to be honest it has been pretty difficult deciding which new phone to get. As I’m sure everyone has, I’ve taken at the iPhone 4 and I have to admit that the apps and such that it offers are impressive. I’m not sure what it is, but there’s something about the iPhone that just doesn’t do it for me though. Instead I’ve been getting pretty excited, like others, about the upcoming HTC Desire HD and although information about the phone is moslty based on rumors I still believe that this phone will be phenominal.
The phone will supposedly run Adroid 2.2 which will allow the phone’s cpu to run up to 2-5 times faster with the OS. This massive change is just between 2.1 and 2.2 and with future Android updates I’m sure that the Adroid OS will only help the HTC Desire HD reach an even higher potential. From what I’ve seen of the original HTC Desire, this phone will be awesome, but if I need a phone soon is it really worth the wait?
Eh. Personally, I don’t think there’s anything HTC will be able to do to keep up with Apple and the iPhone line. Everything that it comes out with seems to be always a day late and a dollar short. The fact that there are barely any apps for the HTC and the fact that the iPhone has the full strength of many veteran app designers behind it means that the iPhone will always be better. My opinion, buy the iPhone4.
what does any of this have to do with the HTC HD2???

I am like you, from what the rumours have told me about the Desire HD.. well you probably guessed from my username here I believe there is a HTC Launch Event in London on the 15th Sept so maybe we'll get some real facts on this device then.

Lol this did make me laugh, I know Apple invented video calls three months ago, and gimmicky apps definately make a phone.
The fact they made a phone with a 1Ghz processor and lesser specs than a HD2 eight months after it's release. And less than six months before HTC are on the cusp of releasing a dual core mobile processor with a brand new OS. But yeah, you're right, HTC will never be able to keep up.

I wouldn't call it iPhone bashing, it's just stating facts, with a little sarcasm tacked on for good measure!
The only plus for apple is it's stability.
On the other hand Apple keeps their mobiles low spec, so less chance for errors/problems.
The thing that affronts me the most is the fact that Steve Jobs determines wether apps can be installed or not (remember the "nude" app?), although by this testing / approving of software the phone is more stabe, the manufacturer decides what you can do with your phone, really: Big Brother (steve) is watching you.
Exactly for that reason I do not believe it is a good business phone... it is a good n00b-phone.
Agree

I agree with Wilco on this one. I really do hate the fact that Steve Jobs has got his hand in everything little thing you’re able to do with the iPhone. A smart phone to me is almost like laptop nowadays, and for that reason I feel like I should be able to run anything I wish, whether it be stable for the phone or not. If it weren’t for that “affront” as Wilco says, I ‘d probably be jumping on the iPhone bandwagon with much less resistance.

Video calling that only works with WIFI and another iphone4...yeah thanks LOL.
like the title, i have someone who willing to swap his SGS2 with my iphone4. i lke the SGS2 but i am not sure wether it is worth the swap. if u guys be me, would u do it? i use my device mainly for text, internet and organizer. not really into game. i like the big screen of SGS2 which can make web browsing more enjoyable.
thanks for your opinion. =)
1) You are on XDA Developers, who believe in openness and the freedom to customize your device as you please.
2) You ask whether you will regret the swap from iOS to Android here, especially about a phone that is on demand by most and is Android.
I don't think there is a proper way to answer it, its like asking the Mac forums whether you would regret the switch to Windows.
I would suggest playing with an Android device to see whether you like it. I am switching from an iOS device to the SGS II as well and I dont think I will regret it. Especially now that Android Market place has almost the same apps and this device is a Dual Core 1GB Ram beast.
exactly, you are on the sgs2 section of xda forum....
it really is a personal thing, my suggestion is make the change and have a taste of android OS, if you don't like it, wait for the iphone 5~
A plain swap? Hell yes. Even if you don't like it just sell it for like $750-$800 (convert it to your local currency just in case) when the iPhone 4 is just around $450-$500. You will make more money even if you don't like the phone.
I would love to find someone here in Toronto who is willing to just swap their SGS2 with my iPhone 4...it's going to suck having to cough up an extra $150-200
I personally wouldnt regret the swap of an iphone for a Nokia 2110. So swapping an iphone for an SGS2, youll b fine!
I'm doing the same thing, and I doubt I'll have any regrets whatsoever. I'm gaining money and I'm switching to a better, newer phone.
As above, go for it
Seriously, this phone is likely to be the first true iPhone killer, where it performs better than your iThing... Take a look at video reviews to get a flavour of it Some phrases that sprung to mind included "smoothest android phone yet" etc...
And if you really don't like it, you should be able to resell it at a better price, or indeed find someone who would trade the SGS II for an iP4 again...

lol i love that phrase....'iphone killer'... using that phrase is like saying the iphone is the number one phone and all the other phones being made are clawing at its feet, waiting for it to drop a crumb of food!
I will not submit to the notion that the iphone is in anyway better than my old Nokia 2110!
(This is just my opinion and may not reflect the opinion of millions of other who have made the iphone one of the best selling phones in the world)
Coming from iphone 4 i love this sgs2 more, its not my first android device so i no what to expect and its a pleasure using this its super fast and enjoyable, ill be honest i would of got iphone 5 if that was released, i will still buy ip5 when its out but ill be keeping this beast still, every1 has there own taste but your getting so much more out of this than an ip4,

Neither will I, but I am just conveying what some of the fanbois are saying =D
Engadget are some of the biggest fanbois and they loved it.
One thing I have noticed is, the text display rendering, especially in browser is better on iPhone. The columns resize to readable fonts on double tapping in iOS. Android browser doesn't have such 'sophisticated' column resize etc.

totally do the swap, even if you dont like it, the sgs2 is worth more $$$ than the iphone4, you just cannot lose
if you don't like it, sell it, buy a new iphone4, and get some beers with the rest of the money
I already swapped my Iphone 4 for a Windows Phone 7 mobile some months ago so...
Itunes is nothing else than a Virus. You will feel the freedom and the power with SGII.
Just saw the Youtube video with the leaked Ville, and it simply is a minor hardware downgrade from HTC Amaze. The front camera is VGA, our is 2M, the back camera has single flash, our is dual, has a plastic back cover, the screen resolution and size is the same, the processor is clocked at 1.5 wouldnt be surprised if it's the same model... Most likely, they will sell it for $199 with a 2-year plan. What I don't understand is, instead of focusing on further development and advertisement of such a solid device as Amaze 4G, put the price a bit down and make profit out of far bigger sales, HTC come every month with 5 different models with weird ass names, sell some, and then move on and forget about them, no support no ****, phone owners feel screwed, and move to other companies' phones... I feel the same way after reading Amaze 4G is near "end-of-life" phase, after only 3 months of sales, which means after the already promised ICS update this phone, despite its potential, will be forgotten by T-Mobile and HTC. If that happens this surely will be my final HTC phone! Do they even realize how many phone models they have issued in the past year? Samsung has had the Galaxy line for almost 2 years, they develop it, support it, and as a result they sell bigger even than Apple, so wtf is wrong with HTC's marketing office, are they on drugs, dont they see whats the winning marketing strategy right now?
The issue is that Google who bought Android is trying to monopolize just as badly as Apple is.
WHY would HTC be virtually the first company to comply with Googles' "3 key phone" marketing push is what I want to know?
I, for one, will be waiting for SOME time before buying another smartphone as it costs too much.
Thanks Google & HTC!

I just hope HTC doesn't turn into an iPhone, that's the reason I went with HTC because apple has stupid restrictions on their phones. You have so much more freedom and I feel that now Google is feeling targeted by the 4s which is stupid. I think market speaks louder than words though their is only so much that we will take as far as downgrading our standards with phones. It may take a while but they will get the hint eventually.
PS. Why is google pushing 3 key phones?

Google is pushing 3 key phones just to tighten it's monopolization strategy.

HTC surely hopes it can turn something into an iPhone like success, but based on their track record I highly doubt it. People predicted lackluster 4S sales since it was an incremental upgrade but instead they sold more than ever. Apple is kicking butt with essentially two phones (the iPhone 4S was 89% of approximately 37 million iPhones sold in Q4). Again this is with an incremental upgrade. Apple's hardware margins on the iPhone 4 and 4S are excellent so they are raking in the bucks with these sales numbers.
I've not heard anything on the horizon from HTC that can compete with the iPhone 4S and with a major upgrade expected for the iPhone 5 my guess is the HTC market share will drop in 2012.
<rant>
It's hard to take but the folks like us at XDA are a very small market so there isn't a lot of business driver to provide open phones for people to hack on. I wish it were different but I don't see that changing. Too few care about S-OFF or root for it to be a profit driver and believe me when I say that HTC, Samsung, Motorola, etc. care more about profits than making XDA members happy.

That's the thing though, maybe it's just me but I would like a phone that is rare. To me the iPhone hype is just a brand name. The phone is to common for me. It's nice to have a unique phone like the Amaze or the ReZound like they go much more in depth. However the Ville is an insult to the consumers who get a really high end phone to have it followed by what ever you call that. To me I think they need to stop monopolizing before they end up like Rockefeller. Don't toy with your consumers because they are what keep you a float.
Got the G2 on launch day from a Verizon store here in town. Phone is great, no doubt about that. What worries me is that this appears to be a hero phone without much demand. HTC has done a great job of marketing the One, and everyone knows Moto. The G2 on display at the Verizon store is jammed between an iPhone and an older model Samsung something-or-other with no signage other than a huge "Samsung Galaxy" poster on the wall behind it.
If I keep this, it will be the third device in a row that I've bought as a "flagship" which wound up getting the cold shoulder in many ways.
First I had the HTC Incredible, probably the most popular of the bunch. While it did have ROM development, it was quickly forgotten when the HTC EVO came out seemingly a week later. Accessories were few and far between.
Second was the Galaxy Nexus, heralded as a "Google experience" device on Verizon. After endless launch delays, it came out and was quickly forgotten by Verizon and Google both. Accessories were few and far between.
Now I have the LG G2, a great device with awesome specs! I actually don't mind the Verizon/LG "skin" on this so much. But again, Verizon had to **** it up with changing the buttons and making the thing thicker. Accessories will be practically nil for this device other than the three cases from Verizon at launch. There will be countless Chinese imports that will claim to fit but will not, because the back-alley factories making this crap don't give a damn about doing anything per spec. Just make it look vaguely correct and slap a knock off hello-kitty design on the back and call 'er done! "Your Happy Plastic Partner" indeed!
I am also afraid that development will completely stall on this device because everyone will head to the Nexus 5...
Sigh... I should just go trade for an HTC One, I think... I don't know. I am torn.
The moto x isn't selling well (att rep who owns a moto x said he hasn't been able sell a single one) HTC marketing well, are you kidding? They are losing money head over heels even with the one. They only thing with LG is, they have a very small market share they are not Apple or Samsung.

Specs or no specs, anyone I know that has or has tried a MotoX loved it. I think whats killing them is the $199 for a 16GB non-expandable phone, sitting right next to a 32GB Galaxy S4 and HTC One for 149, the LG G2 for 199, etc.
And their goal with that phone WASNT balls to the wall specs....it was supposed to reliable and economical (but again the high price question still applies)
I have used the moto x and can tell you the 720 display and processor really are fine. The software enhancements kick total ass. That being said this phone Absolutely destroys it on every front. I absolutely hate amoled. Way too dim.

This. Everything is fine with the moto x, and I'd still be using it if the battery was decent but lately I've been getting idle drain that I can't figure out. As for amoled, it's great indoors, terrible outside. If LG steps their game up with update frequency I have no problem keeping this phone for a long time. Same goes for the moto x if I was somehow getting the 5+ hours of screen on time per day some people are reporting. Oh, and one grip with lg. Why is there not an option to make the buttons on the bottom like aosp to have the recent apps button and not just the menu...

If the LG G2 dont get rom support and community love i'll be surprised. I say this because its a flagship device from LG and available on all 4 major carriers; just like the htc one, galaxy phones & moto x. We just need a unlocked bootloader.

And the fact that they aren't as high profile as the other brands might mean it's easier to unlock

I hope so, it was sad to see the G pro DOA. I'm still holding out to see what Scott does, I'm sure the FreeG guys will get the bootloader bypassed

Sigh... I should just go trade for an HTC One, I think... I don't know. I am torn.

No, you do NOT want an HTC One. I just sold my One for the G2...the G2 completely destroys the One in every way except for speakers and construction material, which are two minor things IMO since I prefer using headphones and the G2 feels solid/premium even though it's not metal. The One IS a great phone, but not as great as the G2. I really don't care if the G2 isn't bought in mass by the masses because I know I have a great phone and that's all that matters. I will be a little disappointed if there aren't many custom roms, but I'm OK with that because the stock rom is super smooth and customizable, plus I will be less tempted to constantly swap roms if there aren't many available

Maybe it's just me, but I'm starting to like the menu button instead of the multi tasking one. I don't have to look around for that 3 dot menu button on the screen anymore.

Wishful thinking, but if its true I'm an LG fan from now on. Maybe since they made and/or making the new nexus they are more lenient to unlocked bootloaders?

Actually I think the blame for locked bootloaders falls on the carriers, not the manufacturer. S4 is unlocked but not on VZW, etc.
LG will do whatever VZW tells them (or lets them). But VZW may not care if they really dont think this phone will sell well, or if they arent marketing it very much (which, as we can tell, they are NOT)

They aren't marketing it AT ALL. I've seen some Droid Maxx commercials though and an even recent Moto X commercial but zero for the LG G2.
