For linux and mac you have to use Heimdall but to my knowledge it is not compatible with the Note I717.
Anyone else? Thanks....

Don't have one but may just go ahead and install XP.
Thing is, that's also proving difficult as I don't have an optical drive and I'm having bootmgr issues with the USB bootable I made.

I thought I read on another post it works with Macs but unfortunately not with Linux/Ubuntu. I use Ubuntu also, so it would be great if it did work.
Don't boot XP man. Your just going to run into compatibility issues.

Heimdall 1.3.2 broke compatibility for several devices. In most case it is recommended that you use version 1.3.1 instead.Version 1.3.1 works for me ( Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise )
Thanks all... will have to do me some learnin' heimdall

On XP, I doubt it's possible...
You could make an USB key with Ubuntu install on it. Not fast, but you could flash your tablet with phablet-tools (see tutorials)
2nd Gen Nexus 7 is not on the official support list and I see no ports for it yet...

Galaxy note 2 will not mount on PC or Mac

Hello all,
I recently made the switch back over to android, and I have been having a few issues with my Note 2. With USB debugging enabled, neither my macbook pro nor my PC will recognize when the phone has been connected. The phone will charge, but that is about it. I have been trying to root using CASUAL, but obviously since the computers don't recognize the phone, that didn't get very far. I assume that since neither computers have recognized it, the issue lies with the phone. Any help would be appreciated.

Went through and did that. Only thing I found was smart switch which i downloaded. Nothing. Downloaded the .exe files any ways, obviously didn't find anything there. I already tried Kies and AFT.
Did you try reformatting your sd card?

Yup. I tried with and without one, and a while ago I did a factory reset.

First question is. Are you only trying to root the phone? If so, then Google framaroot apk. And download the latest version. Then open the app and select the first option. It will root your phone with no computer other than the one in your hand.
If your trying to do the trio. Unlock, root and custom recovery. Than use the casual by Adam. Works like a charm. Seems like your having driver issues. Same with my old computer. So I installed Ubuntu on my windows computer and WIN.....no drivers needed.
