[Question] Why do we have different firmware for each country? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys I'm just curious why samsung is doing this? We know that we can flash using other countries rom using odin and it works fine. Why do they need to release official update by each country if we can use any countries rom?

Just to let you know that as long as the Rom/Firmware is for the the I9300 then you can flash it to your device no matter what country it is for.
So for example if the official firmware was for Poland and your device was in the UK then you can flash it.
Hope this clears things up for you.

So that each country has a reason to withhold your warranty if you're found to run a firmware version they don't associate themselves with. I mean, when I had my Gnex, I ran a british firmware on a nordic phone, with a US modem and all worked superbly.
On this GS3, I've run everything from Russian to Egyptian and my phone has never once failed me.

But still, for example, they can have 1 official rom to all unbranded I9300 instead of releasing one by one for each country... This will be less stressful for them and for us (always waiting for an official release for our country)
I wonder what is really their reason...

" Why do we have different firmware for each country?"
Because your phone / provider relationship is country specific (I use an SGS3 i9300 on a T-Mobile UK contract for example) providers (try to) ensure phone / provider / country specific set-ups.
They justify this on the grounds of providing tailored maintenance and support based on known and controlled configurations.
....it works for the masses....not for us more troublesome and independent minded users in the XDA and other communities

[Q] Korean's Galaxy S2

Hi, i hv a question. If i buy the galaxy s2 from korea, will it work in Canada?
Whatever you do, do not buy a Korean SGSII. The Korean SGSII is highly localized with a different type of SMS that Canada uses right now. It's going to be a real pain in the butt trying to get it to work in Canada which is why I suggest getting an international version or a US version when it comes out.

Korean galaxy model support frequncies are follow.
UMTS single 2100
GSM 900/1800/1900
so, if your carrier frequencies are UMTS 850/1900 , you can't use it.
(i heard that some of carrier support UMTS 850/1900)
and Our korea SKT model using their own SMS(SK-MMS).
(KT model support OMA-MMS)
Finally, i can NOT recommend you are using to our korean galaxy using in canada.
And in Italy? would it be usable in Italy?
Thank you guys

Just to hijack the thread, does anyone have a source on a compiled SHW-250S/SHW-250K firmware so I can mess around with it and reflash it back just in case I need to send it back in for warranty?
If not i'll just have to do it myself from the open source release, hmm

System dump I guess? And repackage them Odin flashable (.tar)
I have not tried yet but probably work.
I would do that if I wasn't a silly and flashed before dumping the original firmware. Carrier specific settings I can get easily enough from talking to a service rep, but they'll probably raise eyebrows at the odd firmware without any of their branding and the giant yellow caution sign, lol
No big deal atm, i'm still fooling around.
Quick question... does anyone know if the ringtones and notifications and other media are available from the Korean SGS2?
I dont want the international version
Just the Korean version.. Thank you
Did I ask in the wrong forum/thread?
Anyone knows where or how to get a Korean S2. I wanna use it when I'm in Singapore
Sorry to bump an old thread but.
- what is the difference between a european/international and Korean SGS II ?
- How can I tell if this is a korean or international version? It's parallel imported from Hong Kong.. http://eking.co.nz/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=10&products_id=300

Korean versions support NFC and they have an antenna. The device in the link is a generic SII, surely not a korean version.
dont buy from korea
just buy from canada made in korea device
same as me but different countries
hey guys thanks for that
To be honest - i am buying through a company in New Zealand which drop ships directly from Hong Kong. So I dont really know what version that will be. Will that be the korea or international version?
Any ideas ?
sorry for bumping a old thread. Any idea if I can flash a korea galaxy S2 with a stock international version Android firmware? or any custom ROM I can flash with? And how do I do it? I got mine when I was posted in Korea to work, now I am back to my country, the 80 character limit for sms is wasting a lot of my money. Any advice? thanks

Thanx in advance
I love this phone!!
I got the phone 2 days ago
All i have to say is that i adoooooore this magnificent device!
Stock rom is perfect, updated the cam firmware and working good now. No hardware issues as mentioned by other users, maybe i'm lucky
The hubs are in there but music hub is not supported in the country.
Doesn't have the arabic support, dunno if i should root to enable it thru Madmack's fix or wait for the original stock update.
Overall, best phone i ever owned!!

Put your phone details in CHECKFUS to check servers .
Kies should be banned on this forum .
jje
My Is KI4 and I checked it today but still nothing :-(
update
I have the same XEU but I'm stucked in 2.3.4 since last year, I want to know if it happens to you too...
Same Here :-/
yeah... I paid a crapload of money to get the i9100 as soon as it hit the market in europe, the XEU versions were the first ones to arrive (except some polish ones were available too)... I also went for it because I was expecting that version to be the first to get updates in the future since I'm german and the DBT (free german) updates for the i9000 were always way behind (just like now with the i9100)...
This page said that the 2.3.6 update is waiting for approval for weeks, didn't get it while probably EVERY OTHER COUNTRY got 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 updates... and now it says the XEU ICS update is just "waiting for approval", while those damn branded O2 und THREE versions already got the update... approval my ***...
what the ****?
I mean ok, everything is working just fine, it's not like I really need that udpate, but why the hell are narnia and other countries with 4 or 5 inhabitants getting the ICS udpate first and then even branded ones arrive before unlocked ones, which don't even have to be customized by the providers????
No seriously, what possibly can be the reason to release branded updates first before unbranded ones get rolled out?
I mean the branded ones are based on the original unlocked firmwares, aren't they?
What the **** is Samsung doing?

[Q] Benefits of branded firmware?

Evening chaps,
Got my Galaxy S3 from Phones4u last week so the phone was unbranded. Now the question I have is what benefits would I get if I flashed the O2 branded firmware on it instead?
Normally I would just wipe it and put a custom ROM on and never touch branded firmware, but with the S3 the software seems to be spot on.
What's everybody's view on this?
IMO there are no benefit to a Branded Fw just more bloat to slow the phone down

I was thinking the same, but I was wondering if they messed with the radios etc to make it work better with their network. Might give it a go and see what extras I can get.
the only benefit is that u can give that phone to yo girl ... who dsnt mess up the beast with root and stuff

O2 bookmarks O2 Arena Wallpaper otherwise zero .
Wait for updates from O2 when and if they update the firmware .
They dont mess with radio >> Modems can be flashed individually on stock rom from the modem thread .
O2 rolling out Fast Dormancy in the south of UK FD on off app now available on the market .
Google fast dormancy .

(Nearly) all radios are linked in a thread in the General section of the forum.
You can always backup your radio before going to full-stock and flash your radio anew. Radio is a different Processor/SoC than the phone itself so the Radio firmware can be completely different to your phone's.
Altough you should get a backup of the network's FastDormancy settings to make sure they are properly configured in the final version.

My gf likes the firmware original, because she wants to tinker around and flash it all by herself
But you seem to imply that flashing a non-original firmware always includes Root, which is certainly not true for the Samsung-original firmwares without carrier-branding.

Samsung Firmware Updates

Here is a noob question
I wonder the reason why Samsung releases the firmware updates country by country. Why don't they push the update once for all regions, like iOS updates? Is there any differences like special optimizations for local carriers, between the firmwares has different Csc?

Mostly carriers need to insert they garbage into it, different countries have different standards, wifi, 3g/4g bands, etc.
So should I wait for Kies updates? I don't own a carrier branded gs2, it's just i9100. Do you recommend me to install eg. Nordic countries firmwares? Unfortunately, we have to wait a lot for Kies updates in Turkey, in spite of Galaxy Note and S series are the most selling here.

Only reason to wait for Kies is you aren't into flashing roms, and have everything you need on current version.
If you wanna update i recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994313.
But remember, always backup your data and do it when you have plenty of time, no one can guarantee it will work flawlessly.
Yeah, I know about that leak. But I've decided to wait for the first Kies version (from any country) of Jellybean because of the lockscreen problem in the leak version.
