I'm just trying to get some general info on when the next N10 update will be to fix some of the obvious and persistent bugs that the device has (wifi, random reboot, ****ty Chrome performance, etc.). I haven't been keeping up with Android news as much as I should as of late, so I am wondering if one of you fellas have heard anything about when the next 4.2 update will be for the N10. :good:

It'll arrive when it arrives. Nobody here is psychic. If you dont mind the warranty risk, you can at least fix the rebooting with CM10.1. If you aren't attached to Chrome, other browsers are known to run far better like Dolphin and AOSP. Cant say to the Wifi issue as I haven't personally experienced it.

Just looking to see if anybody has maybe heard of anything on other sites. These things leak all of the time. I use Firefox for now and it does the job for now, but Chrome has some features that I love and I am just waiting for a decent release that won't crash my N10. As far as wifi goes, mine tends to drop connect while it is on standby for a few hours and it won't reconnect unless I manually turn wifi of then on again.
Maybe I will give CM 10 a shot.

Speak for yourself! :silly: *presses finger to head---I predict we will have an update.....SOMEDAY!
Chrome performance has little to do with N10s firmware, and more to do with it being about 5 versions behind desktop Chrome. I've heard there are a lot of improvements in 23...currently the Android version is stuck on 18.

My Nexus 10 doesn't have random reboots and absolutely zero issues with WiFi. I take my device from my house to my parents house to my in-laws and to work and it never drops connection (except travelling to those places) or requires a reboot. I also leave my Nexus 10 on all the time, it's never turned off. I don't use Chrome, I use the AOSP browser and sometimes Boat Browser.
Chome will be an app update in the Market so it could happen whenever and won't be related to an updated OTA for the Nexus 10.
As for the Nexus 10 next OTA....you really won't hear about it until it starts happening or another update to AOSP occurs (4.2.2 or maybe 4.2.1.1, etc...)

Seriously, im disappointed. I loved my phone before the update, but now..after getting the update, I hate it. I want it OFF my phone. It totally fd up this phone. Pinch zoom is incredibly SLOW and CHOPPY. It freezes and lags like a SOB. And facebook...forget it. I visited the full site constantly because the mobile site caused too many problems. It used to be so fluid smooth. Now it kerps freezing and lagging. The POST/COMMENT button wont work most of the time. I have tried 2 browsers and Its the same problem on both. Also it wont stay centered when im typing. If I try to scroll it to see my text im typing, it forcfully moves back to the other location. What kind of update is this? It broke System Panel so now the cpu usage meter on the top right stays peaked out at 15xxmhz almost. Is there any way to fix these problems? 1 hour and I already cant stand it. This blows! Id rather use my Touch Pro 2 than this if I could. :/

Im sorry if I came off the wrong way, in a way certain parts are quite speedy...but others, like Facebook took a huge hit. I tried a few of my emulators. They seem to work. Nesoid even works despite what I have heard from others. But it seems to lag on frames. Like, the video frames will appear faster but it will skip many thus the motion is choppy instead of fluid. N64oid works faster. I guess thats a plus. I only tried Goldeneye. Typing seems more accurate, but this sollg and screen jumping business is making it very difficult to type..with what was once cake. It wont stay centered on your text. The text boxes in facebook nuke the cpu as soon as you click inside them. It wasnt bad at all before this. I have not tried maps, but since you asked, I might as well.

Unlike on locked down Motorola phones, it is perfectly possible to revert to gingerbread.
1. Unlock Bootloader with HTCDev
2. S-OFF with juopunutbear
3. Run Gingerbread RUU
4. You can stay S-OFF and Unlocked, or if you want to, S-ON and relock.

Right? I was on gb until like a month or two ago and I still prefer gb firmware over ica firmware. I have yet to try the latest radios but I still love the gb radios
I found Opera Mobile to work better. But damn...and yea, its either revert back or custom ROM. I still have not ever flashed before. Guess its one of those things I worry about because if reading a few horror stories of someones phone being bricked after flashing or phone radio not working.
I have seen people in here praising ICS left and right like it was the best update ever. I dont come in here often enough so maybe I missed the posts saying ICS is slow. I wonder if it is Sense 3.6 causing the slowdown?
Most things are the same probably butvsome stuff is def faster and hardware acceleration/gpu rendering makes everything completely smooth and not choppy like GB. Things will get better with some gud kernels when they release source

I have a question for all those guys that make a big deal about having their phone upgraded to ICS or JB. I would like to know what is the big difference or a feature that would make my phone Atrix that's stuck on GB so special? I mean, I can run any browser I want except maybe chrome, I can run any email app and watch and listen to music just like on upgraded phone... oh and lets not forget I can still make phone calls. Have I been living under a rock or do you know something I don't? Please let me know

Well firstly, ICS/JB is soo much smoother and much more asthetically pleasing. Many more people prefer ICS/JB and they are entitled to their own opinions.
Also, many people are angry at MotoFail because they promised us ICS and did not deliver. This is what has caused most of the outrage.
Well, yes I'm mad myself that they did not upgrade my $600 phone. BTW I'm using GO Launcher so my phone still looks pretty good and I can't complain about not being smooth. If this is it, it ain't that bad.

Yes, for now most applications support GB, but as percentage of ICS/JB will grow, more and more application developers will dump GB support. There are some bugs in GB that are not fixed and probably won't be ever fixed, so some developers make workaround for them, some don't, so you can stumble upon one of those if you are 'lucky'. Most of new applications are primarily targeting new ICS interface with Action Bar, so they support GB with third party Action Bar library which also has a lot of bugs, some application features could be disabled because it is hard or impossible to implement them in GB. And things will get worse...

I agree, these two things may seem small, but going back from CM10.1 to CM7 makes it feel like my phone is very slow (although I'm sure this is more of a perception than a real difference).
ICS and JB bring UI enhancements. More importantly, there are apps that only work on ICS and above and will never be backported, Which apps are important to users, depends on the user. For instance, Brighthouse and TWC have cable apps that only work on ICS and above. And as time goes by, you'll find more and more newer apps will require ICS and later, especially since ICS itself was released 16 months ago.
But you're right, you can still make phone calls and you can still use 2 year old apps. But if all you care about is using just a phone, you can get one without paying for a smartphone plan for a hell of a lot less money. And while it's unrealistic to have the latest greatest software at all times for the term of the contract, the device at least should not be obsolete before the ink dries on that contract. While the device still mostly works as it did when it was new, the actual resale value has plummeted since the ICS update cancellation announcement, so much so that a decent protective case costs more than what the device is currently worth.
So when it comes to why people make such a fuss about ICS, aside from the cancelled update, and aside from all the marketing hype that went into the device that got people to buy it in the first place, and aside from the fact that ICS and JB are that much better or they wouldn't be considered updates/upgrades, some people like to at least be a little current. After all, why go buy a new computer when people will give you an old one running windows 3.11 for free? Who knows, maybe you can find an old Univac somewhere. While we're at it, why use anything new at all when we can go back to wearing animal hides and banging rocks together to make tools.
I should tell you about the security vulnerabilities as well, but I'm not going to. Sometimes the lesson becomes more valuable when the person learns on their own, even if it's with some rogue dialer hooking you up with one of those $100/minute pay per call lines like back in the days of dialup.

Go Launcher is smooth only after first one or two clicks. It has many advantages like foldering but for the smoothness, i dont think so.
What pisses me off about GB is notification bar pull-down. Sometimes it gets damn so laggy and slow.
Google Now, Multiple GTalk logins, stable push connection, data counter/limiter, better app support, interface that's easier to use and navigate, faster, and many other improvements.
Stable push connection is the one that really made me not want to go back. When I'm on mobile data on GB it would disconnect every 4-5 minutes, and then wait for a few minutes before reconnecting, and then disconnect again after another 4-5 minutes, ad infinitum. I can't tell you how many times I've been frustrated seeing gray status bar icons instead of green ones. And the fact that GB's push mail & market is dependent on the gtalk service doesn't help.
Gray icons? No gtalk messages, no mail, no downloading from the market.
Signed out of gtalk? No mail, no downloading from the market.
It was frustrating...
I don't care about staying in gb, imo the problem is that there are apps made only for 4.x+ and in a close future gb will be definitely dead.

The Xperia Z or Samsung's version of the N10. The former is ultra-thin but only has a 6,000 mAh battery. It runs S4 Pro which is incredibly efficient so it's too early to say whether or not battery size will be an issue. The latter could be a good choice if in the version of the N10 Samsung sells directly they address the display and QC issues the N10's been experiencing. TW/JB on the Note 10.1 has been issue free unlike what people have been experiencing with AOSP 4.2 on the N10. MWC is next week and more info on the release of both tablets should be available.

I'm waiting to see what comes out at MWC. Id rather have a nexus just for the pure android but I have decided NOT to try another N10. I don't think they will fix the problems on this one. Sure some get 'good' ones but that seems rare. If nothing comparable comes out soon I will just wait until the next iteration of the nexus 10. But I will only buy in a retail(google) store. Never again Play Store.

Same here my friend. Never had a single issue with mine. Loving it.
The Nexus 10 was made for those who like to tinker. And as such, the reboots aren't as big a problem as they would be on other devices since they're easily solved by flashing a custom rom.
If you want something working flawless out of the box and dont see an issue with a walled garden, get an iPad. If you can put up with manufacture skins and a lack of speedy updates, get a Note 10.1. If you want to play russian roulette with your build quality, get a Transformer TF700. If you dont care about vast application support, get a Surface. If none of those sound appealing, give up on tablets.

I agree. I had many reboots prior to 4.2.2 but after the update I had zero reboots so far. Maybe something wrong with your unit or you got some bad **** installed in it.

so everybody was experiencing reboots on 4.2.1,and nobody says its hardware. now 4.2.2 comes out and a few people reboots stop so NOW its a hardware problem? really?
definitely isnt apps, i basically run the same apps on my tablet that i run on my phone. phone has YET to reboot once. If an app is bad and causes a crash (i guess because of its code) it will crash on any device running the same android version right? because its an app problem and not hardware...
for example, list 5 android apps that are KNOWN without a doubt to cause a reboot
please dont say chrome because it only crashes on the nexus 10
in fact, list ONE bad **** app as you say that will cause a reboot across any android device...
P.S. i think that an app causing a device to reboot is still the fault of an OS. i mean why reboot the whole device? why not jus crash the faulty app instead?
Well, I guess I spoke too soon (or jinxed myself) but I got my first post-update reboot this morning. Once per week is still much better than at least one per day, but there's still work to do it seems.

Or, maybe it's the thing that the software communicates with to interact with hardware (drivers)?
Lets say I have a desktop. I run a 3D-intensive app on it. My computer locks up and reboots. The app can be coded to be 100% perfect, and the hardware can be 100% flawless, but if the driver is flawed, then it wouldn't matter how perfect the software and hardware is.

well cool but that still eliminates the app as being the culprit of reboots as a lot of people like to suggest
so thats still an OS problem and not hardware. which means useless to send in back because i have a "bad unit"
still waiting on people to tell me apps that will get me a reboot
As of the past couple days some times when I'm typing in the web browser the keyboard will come up for a couple seconds and then go away and I can't get it to come back unless I close the app and come back, and even that doesn't work sometimes. The also seems to be really laggy to lately and doesn't do what I want it to do in time or at all.

Not enough info to help you out! What ROM? New flash or been running for a while? which keyboard? No such thing as too much info.
I've had the same exact problem myself in past roms installed and on the latest DU 4.3.1 (11/05) build I'm on now. Stock keyboard and SwiftKey... Real pain in the ass... Seems more frequent when in Chrome... Or dolphin browser.... Figured it was something I'd have to put up with if I want to stay with the latest bleeding edge.... If anyone has a remedy for this please let us know!! Much appreciated.
Edit: we might get a quicker response of this is moved to the Q&A/ trouble shooting thread...?

Depend on what Rom your using.
I thought the 5.1.1 for Z2 and Z3 has come more than a month ago. "in the coming weeks" BS..
Don't get me wrong, but i've had enough memory leak issue on 5.0.2. All Apps getting closed in some random time.. Ugghh..
EDIT: XperiFirm is your best friend
EDIT 2: Any thoughts or patch note for 14.6.A.1.216?

Sorry but Yeah just to make people whiny again so Sony notice us again
CM FTW. I've learned to only purchase devices that has active CM support or will definitely have in the near future. Once the device is delivered and CM is available for it I'll flash CM straight away and never go back to stock again. Same for the ZU I got.

[WARNING: XDA Premium 4.0.13+ lacks Signature function - do not update]
It's been told a few times before, 5.0.2 doesn't have memory leaks, just sayin'... It will come when it will be ready
Might not have mem leaks, but it has many issues (some of which were introduced in 5.0 and now we're waiting another version to get to previous levels of functionality) and some very serious security problems.
you know. I was wondering the same thing too where is the darn update to 5.1.1 I have big bugs on 5.0.2 the darn Bluetooth disconnects from my watch when I play some games, sound problems and some app don't works. a can only hope the sony hurry up and get that update with bugs fixed. this is why I'm using lollipup on my z ultra and KitKat on my z tablet compact cos KitKat works better then........hurry up sony........
You both guys have Chrome installed do you? Uninstall it right away, it's a totally different without it... I was amazed how this thing is making everything so slow
I am getting sick of waiting too
Even started to think we may not get it at all
I've been wondering too. I'm on Resurrection rom, but the battery is too short even with all the Xposed tweaks, so I really hope 5.1.1 Xperia firmware comes out soon, so that I can have a long battery life phone again.

Yeah I know, gosh I'm not that stupid... It is just a temporary fix while we are waiting for 5.1.1 improvements, if there will be any
What Chrome uninstalling gives you?

More RAM i suppose but by deleting chrome you don't solve this. I deleted Chrome right after updating to 5.0.2 and i have still similar issues that some of users described here. I guess we need to wait for 5.1.1 and hope for fix. Btw 5.1.1 firmware was certified yesterday so it should roll out soon.
Main problem Ive got is dead background services and every app after switching. I think this can be solved only by increasing amount of ram or changing os.

Yeah, even sometimes Walkman is dying when i am listening music while browsing the web with Chrome. Switching to Firefox, even worse.. Grrr..
Any radio or music app closes when i open any other application.
So i end up using two phones, one for music and other for whatsapp and chrome.

I will be VERY surprised if they fix even ONE THIRD of the issues I see on my z ultra. ONE THIRD.
Hell, I would be perfectly happy if they just let us disable content adaptive backlight, like in the first rom, before they stupidly removed the option and instead of permanently disabling, they permanently enabled it
@d1g1m4n @hansip87 I'm using CM Browser for internet and Greenify to keep apps closed and I can listen to music and browse without any problems even with Viper4android, Chrome is just a piece of crap, it use the ram that lie on the table
@tsiros Yeah buddy, exactly. Remember how they were supposed to fix Kitkat bugs in Lollipop? They fixed a bunch but introduced a second bunch of them
Now that it has been certified we can just cross our fingers and wait but I'm not getting my hopes high given that I had 4 Sony Android phones and I don't thing they have changed that much in just a few months, y'know, it's Sony
I always got 300-400 mb ram free, no matter what am i doing or what apps hibernated in greenify, but backgr apps closing anyway.
