PhilZ-kernel is a 'modified' kernel from the stock one. It's there on your screenshot, so don't worry, you've flashed it right.
And btw, it's 'rom', not 'room'

Camera screen turns black after siyah kernel flash

Hi! I'm in a rooted phone, used Liquid Perfection way, flashed insecure kernel and then secure back, then i found siyah kernel, it looks cool!!! So i did flash it, everything works OK, but when you try to use the camera it will take the photo but you can't see where you are shoting, cause the screen truns black!
So I did flash back the secure kernel and camera work OK, takes photos and you can see in the screen.
It's a bug in the siyah kernel (flashed the last release) or it's because my rom? (Russian LP8 LQ6 Samsung stock 4.0.4) Or becuse i'm too noob?
Thanks!

I don't know about the method you used, flashing Siyah gives you root also. If you could flash back your stock kernel and remove the Superuser application (really I'd remove the binary but I haven't a clue how to do that) then flash Siyah Kernel so you'll gain back root access.
Thinking now it maybe a firmware issue, it just may affect 4.0.4.

It's FW bug. Flash 4.0.3.
It's a bug with siyah on 4.0.4 stock ROMs. I had same issue there is an easy fix which is a simple zip flash in this forum which I can confirm works. I think it's in the original development thread. Next siyah update will fix this bug. I also tried Galaxian kernel which is a 4.0.4 kernel and it never had the camera bug.

No, your kernel won't be touched. Just make sure it's possible to flash the new second rom with the Siyah kernel you use right now.

Thank you for the answer btw any rom recommendations for siyah?

Well that obviously depends on which version of Siyah you want to use as they all support different bases.
You would be much better off finding a rom you like and then flashing the appropriate Siyah kernel for it. However you can start off on any kernel version you like as custom rom will replace with its own kernel anyway so just flash Siyah again afterwards.
Also please note that this type of question is not allowed for various reason.

Flashing another 1st rom will 'replace' your kernel. If you flash a new 2nd rom, the current kernel won't be replaced. Clear?

[Q] Clockworkmod for jellybean 4.1.2 samsung G S2

Hi Forum,
Today I rooted my Samsung Galixy S 2 with Jellybean 2.1.4. I now want to install a custom ROM. I read that the easiest way to do is my flashing ClockWorkMod on my phone wich makes it easy to switch to custom roms. But i simply cant find a matching CWM for Jellybean 2.1.4 I9100XXLS8. I currently have 3.0.31-Jeboo_Kernel_v1.2a as my rooted kernel, dont know if that makes any defference in this.
Hope someone can help me out here:fingers-crossed:
Thanks!
I've never tried Jeboo kernel.
Try flashing Philz, reboot into recovery and then flash your rom.
Oh. It's Jelly Bean 4.1.2.

Funny thing is,.. I really am!
If you want to flash a custom rom, then it doesnt really matter which kernel you pick.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270
Then pick the kernel for you version or just pick the latest version. I would go for the latest and if that doesnt work the one that matches your version.
Make sure you pick the .tar.md5 and not the .zip (because if you got no custom recovery you cant flash .zip)

I think I have to instal the ROMs with aroma file manager? Anaways it doesnt find the ROMs on my external SD. Any ideas? Maybe im just doing it wrong..
Thanks

[Q] Installed wrong kernel

As the title says, I installed the wrong kernel when trying to root my phone... and now my phone wont boot
unfortunatly I don't know which kernel version I originally had so I'm a little worried that I'll have to spend all night trying every possible kernel version until it boots...
Can anyone suggest an easier way? is there a universal kernel that will get me at least to the menu section?
thanks for looking guys
Can you boot into Download mode? If so, which Android version are you on right now?
Yeah I can boot into download mode and I'm running version 4.1.2
I'm downloading I9100XWLSD_I9100MOBLSC_MOB.zip which I think is the original ROM and I'm hoping it comes with the original kernel as well...
I should just flash them both with odin right?
EDIT: download finished and I'm a little confused, there's 2 files within it
I9100XWLSD_I9100MOBLSC_I9100BULS1_HOME.tar.md5 and SS_DL.dll
I really have no idea what to do with these... do I remove the .md5 extension and unzip the .tar? help :S

If you're interested in a little tinkering, you could try flashing Siyah v6 beta 5 kernel via odin, and see if your phone boots up. Siyah v6 supports JB 4.1.2, and it will replace your current kernel. So, theoretically, your phone should boot back up.
Maybe it was already clear, but just flash the Siyah kernel first, before you try flashing a whole rom. Flashing Siyah might solve the whole problem, and you will have root access afterwards.

Yeah that's what I did Donnie and it worked a charm, thanks to both you and immortalneo. :highfive:
Just to confirm I can go ahead and install any rom now without fear of the "superbrick" bug? or would I still need to source an insecure kernel first?
Thanks again, it's a load off my mind

No problem, good for you.
This brickbug can only appear in stock 4.0.4 recovery, so you are safe.
You can try to flash other kernels (.zip files) as well through CWM. But pay attention that you search for the right ones, that are made for your device and your Android version.
