I'm dealing with a conflict with my Scandisk microsd 32 gb card. I'm running CM 10.1 on an Android 4.2.1 Galaxy s3 i9300, and my phone will not mount my sd card when it's in exfat format, but my phone will also not read my microsd (for installing updates to CM 10.1) when it's in fat32. This means that when I want to add media to my card I have to format it to fat32 and then re-format it to exfat when I want to install updates to CM. Am I missing something? Is there a way around this? Thanks in advance for the help.
Can you be more clear about the updates issue? Why does it require exfat?
PS it's SanDisk

It's not specifically the updates. When I format my sdcard to fat32 and run recovery mode, the phone does not see the sd card. However, if I change the format to exfat, the phone reads the sdcard in recovery, but then it won't mount the sdcard when I reboot the phone. I get an "sd card damaged" error. Likewise, when I connect phone to PC via USB my PC does not detect the card. Everything is solved by converting to fat32 except the issue of installing updates or flashing ROMs, kernels, etc.
I read another post, though I can't remember where, that said that the size of the card (specifically, if it is greater or less than 32 gb) effects what format theS III will read it in.
What recovery are you using? I'm using TWRP and it's recognizing my 64gb fat32 card just fine

Okay. Looking into the update. In the meantime I thought I'd share the error message I get when I use CM updater to apply a Nightly update.
When I use CM updater, the system reboots and gives me the following error message under "verifying update package...":
E: failed to open /sdcard/0/cmupdater/cm-10.1-20130107-NIGHTLY-i9300.zip (No such file directory) E: Signature verification failed, Installation aborted
If I then pull the update from get.cm, I can access it from external storage, but I get this error message when I try to install it:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: Signature verification failed
I can access the CM updater file from my file manager in-phone, and I can even see the nightly update zip files to be unpacked, but they don't show up in recovery.

I did this but got the same response. I just noticed that when I use CM updater to apply updates, my phone boots into Android 3e recovery and not CWM, which I have. How do I avoid that happening?
Do you have CWM installed? Just boot into it and flash it manually

The first rule of XDA is you don't talk about XDA?

Noob question.
Installing CM7 with CWM and ROM Manager, I'm getting can't mount /emmc
using internal SD with "the hard method", rooted with SOC
do i have to partition the SD card?
Dont flash CWM with ROM manager...use Odin to flash CWM kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285823). Also, dont use internal SD option, just go to install from SD in CWM and find the file...I had issues installing CM7 so let me know how it goes for you.
What the reply said. I initially had troubles trying to install from my SD card, so I just used root on my internal SD card. I flashed CM7 from CWM rather than using ROMManager, and ended up having my phone hang at boot. After some research, I discovered there's a glitch where the flash doesn't work correctly, so you actually have to flash CM7, and then flash it again right afterwards. Works like a charm for me now.
Hope this helps!
thanks for the replies both of you!
i did get CWM flashed ok...v5.0.2.3
when i'm in CWM, i disable signature checking then install from zip from internal sdcard and i get
E:Can't mount /emmc/

I think internal and external SD card are switched somewhere in CWM.
thanks! how do i fix that?
ok, yes Entropy you were right, the internal sdcard gives the /emmc error, the zip from sdcard works, and cm-galaxys2-full-75.zip starts installing then give the following
asset failed: getprop....
E:Error in /sdcard/cm_galaxys2_full-75.zip
(Status 7)
i also tried toggle script asserts
i figured it out, it was the galaxys2 nightlies from rommanager, not the galaxys2att, trying that now...
I don't think the euro GS2 nightlies work with ATT GS2, I could be mistaken though.

Thanks dan40hands,
I got it working with the ROM posted in Dev...
Doesn't look like the euro nightlies work...

Use this one http://www.multiupload.com/73J3G4C1CV
1. Boot into CWM
2. Nandroid back-up
3. Wipe data & cache
4. Choose install zip from SD card
5. Select the file downloaded above and install
6. Repeat step 4 & 5
7. Reboot and Enjoy
Why would you have to do 4 and 5 twice. Ie install it twice?

Oddity with Cyanogenmod in regard to coming from Samsung-derived ROMs, I think involving filesystem formatting. It was the same on the Infuse. Once you're on CM7, you'll only have to do updates once.

Hi
Anyone know why I'm unable to mount sdcard via recovery. This is just happening when I'm using SiyahKernel and HyperDroid's newest rom.
I'm getting this massage (E:Unable to write ums lunfile (No such file or directory)) when I try to mount every time btw.
Déjà vu. Try the "internal sdcard" options within CWM recovery.

I can't find such setting you are talking about
Okay, the only way I was able to replicate your error message was by removing my physical micro SD card from my phone and trying to mount USB or sdcard storage in CWM recovery. Since you're using Siyah kernel, and this message has been present in his changelogs for quite some time known issues: only external sd is mounted over usb in CWM recovery., I expect said issue is still present.

Ahh, I didn't know about that, but this happened in HyperDroid's rom too, but only the present version. Have never happened in the older versions and I don't use a physical micro SD card.
I have looked up this problem on both xda and google but found no Galaxy SII specific solutions.
I receive the error "Can't mount /cache/recovery" message when I enter recovery mode. The same error occurs when try to mount every other mounts and still receive the equivalent error. eg mount emmc gives "error mounting /emmc/
I am unable to flash a new rom or even mount the sd card to place a rom on.
I have rebooted the phone multiple times but to no avail. I have also tried to full wipe, cache wipe and format the internal partitions individually through the recovery but it did not work.
Clockworkmod recovery v5.0.2.3
same error occurs on cwm 4.0.1.4
No current rom
Heard people say that by removing the sd card the error is resolved... (will only work if a corrupt sd card is to blame)
Might be able to use internal though
I tried it without the sd card, still same error. Also, the sd card i used before was working on another phone with all files intact, so no corrupted sd.
I would try starting a fresh... flashing with odin etc ... can you access download mode ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928

Yeah that version of cwm has that problem. What you can do is copy a rom to your external sdcard, take out sdcard and put in card reader copy rom and put back in phone, and install from zip and then go external sdcard and install from there. Or what you can do is use odin to flash cwm v5.5 which works just fine.
Hope this helps.

Hey folks!
I've had JellyBAM v6.5 running on my S3 i9300 and wanted to flash to 6.6, but after a one time used DarkyRom (****) i had a folder called Darky that i couldn't delete. So i thought i delete everything, data, cache, and format it.
But right after i pressed format i realised that it was not that smart of me and now i got an phone i can not boot because there is nothing on it.. :/
If i go to mounts and storage I see:
unmount /efs
unmount /cache
unmount /system
unmount /data
unmount /preload
mount /sdcard
unmount /external_sd
So everything is mounted exept the SD Card.. :/
If I go to the "Install .Zip from SD Card" i can go on the internal storage and see only the folder Clockworkmods\ so i can acces it.
But if I try to install JellyBAM.zip i get this message:
--Installing: /external_sd/rom.zip
Finding update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Than i get a other option menu on the top and it says:
Install Untrusted Package?
THIS CAN NOT BE UNDONE.
-No
-Yes - Install untrusted zip
-++++Go Back++++
And if i click Yes- Install untrusted zip, then I get:
Installing Update...
Installation aborted.
What can i do now?
Thanks!
ODIN... Flash a stock rom and then re-root...
You've cleaned out everything on your internal storage anyway, there should be no pics or anything there if you formatted it. What have you got to loose?

Put rom on external sd card .
Flash CWM recovery and install rom from recovery may work .
Otherwise build the rom you want into the correct format for Odin flash .

hmmm ur sdcard partition may be corrupted then
do u have mount/extsd option in cwm?
if u have this option try mount extsd if this doesn't help too,u must unfortunately flash stock rom
What format is the card in? Some CWM versions might not like certain formatting. Have you checked on the thread for CWM for your device to see if others have issues mounting their SD card? Are you able to mount the SD card via PC with other readers? Might need to either try a different version of the recovery if available or to reformat the card via PC (make sure you backup stuff to the PC first as it will wipe everything).
