I'm 30 min west of NYC- also think I pick up the 1900 band at times.
Did you do the little speed hack in my post? It really increases your speeds dramatically. There is a thread about it here in the note forum. Note sure what that hack is called officially. Your speeds are what I typically get on att around here without lte. Tmo's hspa speeds kill att's. Just follow my instructions and give it a try. If you don't like it, you can always go back to whatever it was.

I have tried both T-mobile SGH-T989 KID and T-mobile SGH-T989 VKL1 modems/radios and the speeds are about the same, 1mbps down and 0.03mbps up.
I tried on both Stock ROM and SAUROM and both are similar speeds. I also tried switching from GSM/HSPA to HSPA only but HSPA only runs at edge speeds.
Signal strength is 4 out of 5 bars where I tested.
Are there any other modems/radios I can try?
Thanks in advance.

Use the Telus radio instead and also replace your build.prop file with the modified one you can find in the forum. I get 10Mbps down 2Mbps up usually with this setup.
haha i guess i missed the first half of ur post sorry, my data was good for the first week now im getting slow speed also ill try the telus one and piston back

Sim is a 2G sim? WHAT????
I cleared cache and flash the Telus radio and tested the speed and it's still the same speed as the other modem/radios. I even tried the other modems again and still no difference.
I put the sim into my Sensation and tested but the speeds I was getting were 1-2Mbps Upload and 0.2-0.6Mbps download. What the heck was happening with my data speeds and I have not even reached half my Throttling limit.
I called T-Mobile, the CS said that my sim was a 2G sim and they would send me a new sim. What the heck? I was given a new sim last year when I went to the T-Mobile store and complain about the slow speeds I was getting on the G2X. The sim is definitely NOT a 2G sim as I was getting 10Mbps down and 1.2Mbps up.
This morning on my commute, I tested a couple of times on my Sensation and my download speeds are now back to 10Mbps down.
I left my Note home so I will test when I get back.
its definitely the phone with the speed issues cuz my sister get 2-4 mg download and im still stuck on 200-300 kbps her phone is a mytouch 4g slide,

Possible fix with different combo of ROM/Kernal/Radio
Checkout this XDA article on the Portal page
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/get-your-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket-to-run-t-mobile-hspa/
It seems the At&t Skyrocket some T-Mobile users are using are having the same problem.
XDA Senior Member tspx23 uses a combo of ROM/Kernal/Radio made a difference in getting better speeds on their Skyrocket. Will that work for the Note?
Now all we need is a Juggernaut like ROM with the Faux Kernal and the VKL1 radio.
i think that could be what we are going thru who here has what setup? im using the KID radio and still getting somewhat crappy speeds first day i did the mod was Proly the best speeds i got between 6-8

People I would really appreciate your feedback on this, during the past 3 weeks I have noticed that my download speeds had been drastically slow even when I have 4G and speed test coming back on results over 4MB download per second I see this is mostly during some times of the day, late at night it is fine, as an example when I tried to download an app from the market or as well when I'm using my phone as a hot spot it takes over a minute to download 2 MB of data. I have unlimited data and my friend my cousin and his wife are having the same issue, I was having it on my S3 now on my S4, my friend and cousin on their Note 2 and my cousins wife on her iphone 5 we all have unlimited data and now we are wondering if verizon is playing a dirty trick on us.... does anybody here are seeing this problem? are you unlimited or limited? I have called Verizon and they say they are only throttling 3G, not on 4G I already did their stupid apps deletes and resets factory resets etc etc, and I don't want to root my S4 yet in case they blame it on the phone and want me to exchange it.
Thanks,
A worried data devourer
I've got unlimited and use about 50gb-200gb a month. No throttling. Chicago.

I am also having this problem, especially when I download apps in the market. I never had any problems with my S3. I wonder if it is due to the new NFC SIM. I am going to verizon and asking them for the regular sim and see if it solves the problem. I really hope it is not the phone. Also I used to get full 4G signal at home, now I get only 4 bars, it even drops to 3 sometimes.
I don't know what an nfc sim is but I'm running the s4 using the same sim card i had in my galaxy nexus since it first came out. So if that's not an nfc sim...

I noticed the speed fluctuations when the Google play store started with the new updates. It would be with various apps updating and it would be on the network and it was also affecting speeds while on WiFi. It would take 5 min to download a 2 MB file that should only take a few seconds. I do not think the throttle is through the carrier but it may be on the google servers depending on which one you are connected to. I noticed recently that it has gotten better but there could be maintenance going on that is slowing down services and also with the weather around the country there could by bypasses going on that can affect downloads. Just my guess.
Just popped my sim into the galaxy nexus still experienced slower speeds. Maybe the weather or some other factor is at play

It might just be your location. If anyone in the range of the cell tower your phone is connected to is using a lot of bandwidth or it is heavily populated with 4G users, you will feel the effects of it. Have you replicated it in a completely different area that's less populated and is greater than 5 miles away?
No. Only relative to same location in the past. Will try new places as i move through the world

Well I kind of doubt it would be the location, the reason is because I work traveling and during this past two weeks I was in Rock Hill SC near Charlotte NC, and Duluth GA near Atlanta, and was experiencing the same issues mmmmmm
Verizon does not throttle you. I'm currently using unlimited 4G and have been using unlimited since it first came out. They have not once throttled me.

Verizon only throttles 3g and only when the tower being used is overloaded. During my year and a half with them I have never been throttled. I mostly always get 4g and I always pull about 15mbps and 1-2 on 3g

I have trouble with my signal at work and installed the new mj7 radio hoping that would help. Band 4 seems like it's going in and out around my work but when I did get on band 4 I immediately ran a speed test. I was getting close to 30mbps but got 2-5mbps on the upload speed. Even the needle for speedtest.net was glitchy on the upload but not on the download. I thought the download was the signal and the upload was the phone processing the data. Is there something I can do to improve my upload speed or a site someone can point me to that will explain download/upload speeds? Sorry if this is a noob question but I'm learning
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Upload is hit and miss for me (when I actually can get a decent connection) I wouldn't complain about the upload if I could get a download speed over 6mbps. The slow upload only occurs at work?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Seems like it's only at work. Didn't really do a bunch of test prior to this aws band coming out. Never had a problem with signal unless at work. Hopefully there still ironing out this new band and it will get better. Just wondering if there was something I could do to increase the upload speed. Like I said even the Guage is glitchy when speed test is doing the upload speed.

One thing I had to switch to is use fast.t-mobile.com APN.
First speed test and I got download speed of 13 Mbps and upload speed of 2.61 Mbps.

What a time we live in where someone is questioning if consistent 50+ dl and 20+ ul is good enough. I have yet to get those speeds in my area, I got 36 down and was stoked.
Just be happy knowing that your phone pulls faster speeds than most people's home Internet and known that you have more speed than you could actually need on a phone.

Good speeds , but to bad they we're taken late at night when most people are sleeping of course the speeds going to be higher
Try taking speed tests around 9am and 6pm see what you get I bet money those speeds are cut in half due to the traffic on the network

How do I make my vrizon s5 faster it's slow
what's up everyone, the nexus 6p is capable of hitting all bands for sprint spark LTE. just thought I'd start a thread for those wanting to share their speeds. this is from inside my living room, the lowest speed is my WiFi.
Sprints speeds should be improving as they are beginning to have fewer customers therefore less congestion on the network. This is a great happening for people who stay with them.

I was able to get my MSLs from Sprint via chat. They were not all zeros. Additionally, setting the band priority does not affect which band you sit on. It's just for the initial connection. After that it's a signal and load balancing act. Realistically you should always find yourself on the "best" band.
