[Q] GB vs. JB - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

How is GB lighter than JB? Why is that?
I know that JB have some tweaks like better multitasking and that may consume ram, but shouldn't JB be as lighter as GB if you just disable everything it has working in background? I'm asking this because recetly i changed from JB to GB for better gaming experience and it's really faster in GB. Then i was wondering why can't i make JB as fast as GB even if just for about some minutes, for the gaming experience...

ICS or JB good for games?

Hello guys, I wonder if there is any custom rom for Xperia Neo V, which run the games without any lag, or at least with minimum of lags.
sorry for bad english!

I haven't really tested much but as far as I know it goes like GB(Codename 9, X-GAMER) > JB(CM10, AOKP) > ICS
Imo ICS is the least optimised for gaming, but bear in mind that I haven't really done any real benchmarks so I might be wrong on this, someone should back me up first
of course GB i better for gaming but i dont have mush problem with ICS:good:
GB are the best for gaming man
u can try codename he's fast n
Stable
Of course GB because is lighter than ICS
For all the fools answers (not eveyone)
He asked ICS AND JELLY BEAN! NO GINGERBREAD.
I really dont know which one is fastest but bear in mind that JB needs more ram, and has many bugs.
it depends...
well of course it depends on what kind of games are you playing...as guys/girls said JB uses more ram and its still under development, but if you have nice tuned ics its definetely better...i sugest you to take a day off for your phone and just try roms...it cant hurt and you will find the rom that suits you best
gb, ics generates as many compatibility problems or close by themselves.
apart gives you more free RAM
there are many ICS custom roms that good for games

CM9 , i.e. ICS and Jelly sandwich are pretty good RAMwise, and therefore good for playing games.
Moreover if you want a lag free gaming, close all background running apps before running games, as 512 MB is never enough RAM for gaming.
check it out

How to get best performance [AC Rom]

Hi, i'm using one of the best roms for Xperia Neo, the AC rom (used to be PAC) the one ported by Kormatoes. But i'm getting a little lag when gaming, just installed vce city and even with low graphics i get lag sometimes. So i want to know what can i do to reduce this lag.
I changed the governor to performance (don't know if it's the best), and OC to 1.4 GHz, closed all apps before gaming. What else can i do?

Vice City is a pretty heavy game and it won't run on our devices smoothly, especially if you're on ICS/JB ROM.. Both are RAM hungry and therefore not enough RAM would be there for you to play!
If you love heavy games I recommend you to switch to GB ROMS..
I know that GB roms are lighter than ICS or JB, but how lighter they are? You think just the rom will make a big difference or there should another thing to do? What about the governor?

ROM definitely makes a big difference..
Try playing games on both GB and ICS and then try to compare between the two!

Well i would like to get the best performance without changing the rom. I think the AC ROM is well tweaked and maybe as lighter as a GB rom. Just want to know the best configuration (CPU governor, I/O) to get less lag. Should i restart the phone before playing too?

ICS or GB? What should I use? I guess this question is not only mine...

Greetings my dear friends.
I'm here to give my verdict on the upgrade to ICS after 2 months using the ICS Stock ROM I could finish something. Read and understand.
I have an XPERIA U ST25a retail brazilian.
Sure, the stock ICS ROM is very attractive, all good new stuff found in Android 4.0 are very good, like the new UI or settings menu, the toggles easily accessible are very useful, but the apparent instability and slowness (in moments) make me think why I bought this phone, and also think about going back to the old but great stock GB ROM.
And yes, i use ICS ROM, I made my own modifications and tweaks to the all-bloated ICS Stock ROM get the maximum performance.
But the bugs are really ridiculous.
The battery only charges sometimes if the phone is restarted, otherwise the indicator will be locked at 39%, for example.
The camera seems to be slow compared to the old Stock GingerBread ROM.
The open / close applications is not slow, but sometimes the application takes to respond as if something sucking the system performance.
All these bugs may (or may not) be Sony's problem, but since the era of my old devices I have these SAME problems in some ICS ROMs (I've also tested the FXP CM9 rom, and believe me, if you fill up with apps, will be slow too).
It seems that Android 4.0 ICS is always buggy and slow, and then Eclair 2.1 (horrible) then followed by the 2.2 Froyo (good).
My conclusion: Don't upgrade if you hate a phone will be a little bit slower.
I just do not go back to stock GB ROM why I still enjoy a good user interface instead of performance.
But if you do not like one bit of minimal slowdowns or some bugs, DO NOT bother upgrading to ICS. Just a beautiful day, we have the long awaited Jelly Bean. Even if it is a CM10, the "Butter Project" realizes disappear with lags. And all these little problems may be fixed.
I just let my experience here on this upgrade does not seem that there be a good idea.
Thank you very much
What ics firmware build number are you talking about?
Sent from my Jellybean Xperia S
About any ICS firmware. I've tested B.1.10, B.1.54 and C.1.10 and of these three have similar and different problems. Its a problem about android 4.0 that have been build focused on research data...
Ics is a very ram hungry ...if u have a device which has ram 512 or below that, them trust me it's best to stay at GB.. In my Xperia P ICS eats up 500MB of my ram.i am just left with 430 MB of usable memory...

But in android free ram doesn't mean more performance, lag will only appear when RAM reaches the "lag level" (30~25 free ram)
Here on my XPU i have 120~140MB free and i don't have any lag. BTW if you install a bunch of crappy apps and let the bloatware of Sony installed you will certainly will get some lag. Even on a XPP with 1GB of RAM you can feel some lags, i've already tested yet!
Yes if you say it like that.. Then yes under a microscope ICS does lag a bit.it's inevitable even the quad cores lag in ics from time to time.. But hey that's why there is JB for the rescue...

I think lag by alot of app is open. So I endtast and free ram. It Work fine with me.
I prefer the GB which is less power hungry on RAM compared to ICS.
ICS, I find it laggy.
Most games lag on ICS compared to GB.
For me, if I'll choose, I'll go for Custom ROM based on ICS(not the stock one that sony distributed). If you don't like stock ROM then I'll stick to GB because ICS consumes more RAM than GB.

{Poll} GB vs ICS vs JB

Hey guys vote for the Xperia P Stock ROM with Gingerbread Ice Cream Sandwich Jelly Bean!!!
State the reason you vote for each version.
Fine.
GB : I love the looks of it, but the UI isn't that smooth (Google starts polishing their UI from ICS)
ICS : Definitely more minimalist. And UI is extremely snappy and smooth. Apps run greatly on it and I love it.
JB : UI framerate is noticeably higher, but they actually bugs me sometimes. The UI is a bit messy for my taste, the launcher dock is very very ugly for my taste. And I love the icons on ICS much better, personally I like icons on the ICS firmware better. (Because I like cyan, blue, and purple)
I think we are talking about stock firmware here, but if I were to use stock firmware,I would stay on ICS.
If I really want to use JB,which I am currently using at the time of writing this, I would pick CM10,and customize the ui to my likings.
Now I'm using the XU,but I've used the ported stock JB,I'm not going to talk about the performance here, but the UI design is just a mess in my opinion.

For me
gingerbread:which is great performance then any other upgrade version(which is the most great version of SONY)
ice cream sandwich:great look and performance is not bad
jelly bean:nice looking and animation but got something lag there.
JB!
For me it's definitely JB, cause it's the smoothest one !
At xperia mini, GB & CM7 was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better, but with xperia p i cant say that i prefer GB
CM9 is the best rom for me but lacks camera performance, especialy if you have the camera mod on ICS/JB
Maybe only for that i will change back to stock based rom
I'm still using GB because GB version is so fast , smooth , more RAM , perfect signal , and especially battery is very good .
As I realized, free ram not always means fast performance
At android I mean

I have maked the test with some games on my XP ( detail test CPU , GPU and battery consumption between stock GB vs stock JB ) . Each game i play about 30 minutes .
Asphalt 6:
GB : very good ( 30minutes consume 24% battery ) - JB : good (29%)
Asphalt 7:
GB : very good (32%)- JB : a bit lag (38%)
Deer hunter reload:
GB : very good (22%) - JB : good but slow (26%)
Spider man :
GB : very good (30%) - JB : very good (31%)
Nova 3:
GB : good (38%) - JB : some lags (43%)
....................
And i noticed if receive message while playing game . JB have more lags but no matter with GB .
CPU/GPU on GB is perfect because GB have more RAM than JB and bravia engine on GB work perfectly .
After one week make the test , i turn back to GB .

Xperia GO Jelly Bean v4.1.2 performance issues

Hello i recently got my Xperia GO and updated it using PC Companion to JB
But so far been very frustrated with it :crying: On the original software it had GB the ram usage was ALOT lower, okay i understand newer software = more apps and more ram used. But on JB i only have on average 100-70mb as opposed to 190-160mb on GB.
I want to play games badly and I cannot figure out how to make JB use less ram, other than using a custom ROM.
Any suggestions?:silly:
Don't bother with that, jelly bean with free up as much ram as it needs

It really isnt free ing up the ram hence why I posted this, besides I have checked the difference between the two softwares and on GB games like Real Racing 3, Dead Effect, etc all work and with JB they don't load :/
