When you plug in the USB cable from the PC to the phone, are you greeted with this menu (see attached image)
Thanks I am familiar with that screen, however I can't get the phone to be treated as a USB mass storage device. I just want to be able to browse the memory card like on an MP3 player, camera etc without having to use the Sony software. Is there anyway I can do this natively in windows or linux?

When that screen pops up, just select "Connect my phone", and it'll mount it in mass storage mode. Works perfectly fine for me on PCs without the software installed. Haven't tried it on linux, but it works on my car's stereo that plays mp3s off a connected usb device, so I can't see why it wouldn't
My phone works like that but only with the phone drivers installed. I treid this before I installed the phone drivers but windows just said the drive was unreadable. Also you can't browse the entire directory structure.
Very odd. My Windows XP SP2 has no drivers in it for the phone but manages to read the memory card
Works fine here as regular usb mass storage in Mac OS X.
Sent from my U20a using XDA App
Ive just suddenly had a brainwave: asking for drivers? That to me sounds like its in USB debugging mode. Switch that off and it should be ok
I have a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 running honeycomb 3.1 that I recently purchased the USB adapter for. I have a 250GB external hard drive formatted in FAT with its own power supply, however when it is connected to my tablet android recognizes the hard drive but none of the several file reading apps I have tried recognize it. Any ideas?
Thanks.
i guess the adaptor could only read up to 32GB of space and it should be fat32 so I can tell u to try to partition ur hard drive to 32GB parts its annoying I know but its better than nth wish this helps... I want to try so after I finish my vacation so u can try and report back..
Edit : some say they got the 1TB to work by making sure its a USB cable virgin 2.0 u can read more here

Hi i had the same problem with my external hard drive.
Every time i connected the drive it to say a usb device was connected and then attempt to open the mY files file manger. I would brefily see the file stored on my drive and then i would get the the usb device was unexpectedly disconnected.
heres how i over came that problem.
1) plug the external hard drive SG 10.1. usb device was unexpectly removed error will be displayed.
2) turn off the SG 10.1. do not unplug your external hard drive
3) turn on the Sg 10.1
4) open my files file manger and all your files should now be displayed in
storages/usb/sda
have fun it would appear there is some bug in my files or the mounting of the external hard drive but this is beyond me.
hope someone can fix this.
BTW.
I am running my sg 10.1 unrooted with stock firmware and touchwiz
Hello,
I have a Droid 3 and I was wondering if it was possible to somehow partition a part of my SD Card off for a virtual flash drive and basically use it as storage without the need to install drivers or anything like that. I tried to search around the forums and it looks like WM5torage would be a good option only if it was available for Android devices. Is there a alternative solution out there for Android devices (one that would work with a Droid 3)?
Basically, I want to use a small virtual drive (that would be located on my phone or SD card) and plug it into arcade games that allow you to store/edit game data on your flash drive. Of course, I would normally use USB Mass Storage mode to do such a thing but it won't work on arcade machines which I'm going to assume is due to the fact that the machines don't have the drivers.

Hi, I want show you as connect external HDD to XPERIA mini pro (SK17i). This HDD is 500 GB, USB 2.0.
I made cable for external supply, but you can use a USB HUB with external power supply (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827217)
AL Mass Storage Manager - application for mounting partition: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=labs.antu.hw.storage&hl=sk
Sorry of my english...
re
Great Work!
i will try it
Does it show in the place where /sdcard/ and /system/ are shown?
nice but app will be use yo view SD/USB1/?
You can change name for mount, so for example you can see HDD/ USB flash disk in - mnt/sdcard/MEDIUM/sda1 .... but you can mounting only in mnt/sdcard folder.
Other connected media you see as sdb, sdc, ...
In application you can see - Base directory
WOW
Incredibly amazing, i wasnt thinking in purchasing the usb adapter cable, but now i think ill have my way with it
Thanks for sharing

You can use the device with the new updated version ICS 4.1.B.0.431? I already have the OTG cable identical to the video, but it only works the mouse or USB keyboard. When I connect a pen drive it does not recognize.
Nice

Did you mount partition with AL Mass Storage Manager? If yes, you try other browser manager.
Based on the compatibility list from Sandisk's website, the LG G5 supports Sandisk Ultra Dual USB Drive Type-C.
The link can be found here: kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/17189
I will try to describe my problem clearly below.
I just bought a Sandisk Ultra Dual USB Drive Type-C 128GB. It work fine with my laptop when I use the usb A connector. My phone have the camplus module connected and I tried to connect the type c connector of the Ultra Dual USB Drive to my LG G5 and I realise the phone was unable to recognize it or even detect it. So after sometime I figure out that the problem is most likely the CamPlus so i swapped the module with the original phone connector (the components with speaker only). Now the LG G5 is able to detect the USB drive but it is quite intermittent and the USB Drive can get ejected randomly. I also downloaded the Sandisk Memory Zone App and the application was not able to detect the USB drive. I tried es file manager too but it is also unable to detect the flash drive. The only file manager that works is the build-in LG's file manager and as I mention previously the USB drive can get ejected randomly the build-in LG's file manager is only able to detect the USB drive when it is successfully mounted. On some lucky occasion when the USB drive is mounted successfully, I am able to see the thumbnail of the content inside the USB drive but I am unable to play any video from the USB drive.
I tried the Sandisk Ultra Dual USB Drive Type-C on my Zenfone 3 which also have a USB type c connector port. Initially, when I plugged in the USB drive into my Zenfone 3 said something about unrecognized format and suggest me to format it on the phone. I followed the onscreen instruction and format the USB drive, now the USB drive works flawlessly on my Zenfone 3.
Next, I tried to used the formatted USB drive on my LG G5 but the same issue that I encounter previously on the LG G5 still persist.
Does anyone have any idea is LG phone only able to recognize sd card instead of USB drive? Had anyone encountered my problem before and know the work around or perhaps anyone have some idea how to fix it? I am also not really sure why is the LG G5 only able to view the content the build-in LG's file manager. Thanks for reading this long post. Cheers!
P.S.The USB drive is formatted in exFAT format. The phone is also not root.
