Okay so i have the i717 galaxy note and i am using it on T-mobile $30 a month 5gb of 4g(hspa+) ,100minutes ,and unlimited text but it never uses HSPA+ it uses UMTS:3 and says 3G on status bar but it always switches to 3G (UMTS:3) to H+ (HSPA+) is there a way to force to keep it only on H+? and once in a while it says i removed my sim card when i didnt is it because the back of my sim card is getting warn out ? when i look at contacts on back of sim it looks scratched from im slot should i replace my sim ? is that the problem or what? please help thanks !
It uses 3g when H+ is not available, so if your not in a spot with H+ it has to use 3g you cannot stop it from doing so
Besides, speed on a network is determined by the number of users connected to that tower. An icon is only an icon, and doesn't actually indicate your speed; it only shows you the type of tower you are connected to.
im at home and i see it constantly switching over and i went the settings > about phone >status and it shows what network
I think you should tell t-mobile to put a tower in your yard.
And another one in mine ....g

I just went to the ATT store to test drive the Atrix and it is literallylike 1/2 mile from my home...
The Icon showed H+, but the ATT guy told me we don't have 4G in our area....He said that I am connected to 3G and the only way to know if I am connected to HSPA is when the Up and Down arror are bold and not grayed out.
Is this true ? How can I be 100% sure if I have 4G
I think it only becomes 'bold' when you're actively transferring data, unless he meant that the arrows would become larger or something. But, the only way to know would be to check Speedtest every couple of weeks and see if it's gotten faster. maybe see if the AT&T reps can find out when 4g will be enabled in your area
Go to Settings>About Phone>Status - See "Mobile Network Type"
Unlike HSUPA and HSDPA, 14.4 HSPA+ isn't a "mode". What happens is your phone tells the network it can receive 15 codes at once, which are basically channels. 10 codes gives you 7.2 Mbits and 5 codes is 3.6.
The network decides how many codes are assigned to you the instant before it transmits data. You may not get all 15, because other people are using the network for data or voice. On the other hand, even if the backhaul hasn't been upgraded, you may use all 15, because the base station might burst the data at once, in order to save your battery.
The best you can tell is what dsjr2006 said.
So which one is HSDPA? Im getting taht one according to what dsjr2006 said.
according to the user manual on the phone, if it shows an H your connected with 4G, if it shows a 3 your connected with 3G. I might take that with a grain of salt, and would use a speed test to check actual speeds.
ATT claims that all the towers will connect 4g but not all of them have the speed to support that yet. Hence the H+ sign but 3g like speeds

i have spotty 3g in my area, so my phone is switching between EDGE and 3g allot. for what ever reason, it completely looses signal to switch over. i have had many cell/smart phones and all the other ones switch over without loosing signal. it is really getting annoying, but i love my atrix. what is the issue? i STILL have not found a way to disable 3g and just use EDGE...4636 does not stay.
the other thing i have not called and switched my plan to the 4g plan yet, i have a BB also and i am still on a BB data plan. i DO get h+ on my phone, so by getting the 4g plan, will this stop this signal loss from happening? as i said, i could care if i had 3g, im fine with EDGE since im on wifi.
any help/advice would be greatly appreciated..
thanks!
There is no 4g plan since its not 4g. Its still a 3g network so if u have a 3g plan then you are on the fastest that att has to offer. Their 4g claims are a farce

try a new sim card if your card is over 6months old. when i select gms only in that service menu it disconnects from the network for a few seconds then locks on edge and stays on edge
I have this same problem too on a regular 3g data plan so I don't think it's bb related. it bothers the crap out of me

Really....humming....I am using my micro sim from my iPhone with the sim adapter....maybe a trip to AT&T for a new sim is in order
My iPhone 3GS had this problem, my Atrix does too, but it's not nearly as bad about it.
Hi all!
Im using a moto E with Tata Docomo sim.
The problem is that when I change my network mode to WCDMA only, the phone shows only 3G and not H+. However, when I go out of my home, I get H+ with full signal.
I've talked to customer care and the issue is that another cell tower which doesnt support HSPA is stronger in my home so the phone connects to it and only shows 3G even when data transfer takes place. 3G is so much slower than HSPA/HSPAP.
Is there any way I can force my phone to connect to HSPA/HSDPA only?? I dont mind if the signal drops a little. Since it is possible to force the phone to using 3G only, I thought forcing to 3.5G could also be done
Also my phone is rooted so changing any system file is not a problem.
Please help..
Thank you.
Hello,
I mostly use my phone on Wifi but occasionally switch to mobile data. We don't have 4G where I live. The three types of networks available are GPRS (2G), EDGE (2.5G) and HSP (3.5G). Using my previous phone on Mobile Data, I always see the symbol "H" indicating that I on a 3G network. Here are some observations:
1. Since I started using the HAM2 I always see "4G" instead of "H" even though I'm sure it can't be 4G. I can use the internet but its ridiculously slow.
2. Sometimes, when I'm some far away place, I see "E" indicating that I'm using EDGE which means that the "4G" I usually see does not erroneously represent EDGE.
3. I thought the general network in my area was slow. I tried someone else's SAMSUNG phone. The usual "H" was there and the speed was as is expected of a 3.5G network
So, whats wrong with my phone's internet speed. I've verified that I'm using the same access point as everyone else. But internet is just too slow. Usually in SAMSUNG phones, there's an option where you are allowed to switch from 3G to 2G data networks to save some battery but the HAM2 lacks this option. Instead, when defining the access point, there's an option at the bottom called "Bearer" where there are three options; "LTE", "eHRPD" and "Unspecified". Switching to anything other than "Unspecified" does not work.
Is there something that is causing the internet to be slow on my phone or the HAM2 doesn't support 3G data ?
Thanks
4G = H+
4G LTE = LTE
Not sure where you are located, but if you don't have the proper sim card, and provisioning, you won't see LTE, but just 4G, which is the
"old" H+.
I'm in the states, and depending on where I am, and the time of day, using straight talk (tracfone/at&t card), I get anywhere from snail
speed, to around 12meg which is fine for me, I use less than 2gb of data per month. On the phone, that's another story, I use 1500-2000
minutes per month.

If you have the battery savings set to endurance it Will slow down your internet. Changing to normal would help.
I'm on cricket and mobile hotspot and wifi work great
I'm on metro pcs and had never been more happy till 2 days ago for some reason it started to be really slow, hopefully there is some work being done
I am also using MetroPCS and have had no issues so far. Down speeds are super impressive here in New York. I am almost always around 50mb and have seen 75 a few times. My wifi tethering has also been working with no issues.
In the system drawer it will say T-mobile 4G instead of just T-Mobile like my old phone. I have a T-Mobile Pay As You Go - Legacy which means I dont have any data. I just got off of live chat with T-Mobile and they said 4G is also used for calling and texting signal, is that true?
I immediately turn off data but it did use like 2.xx kb and it deducted 12 cents off my balance.
My question is how can i make it say just T-Mobile or if its fine showing T-Mobile 4G despite me having no data plan? Thanks
also i my sisters sim card (she has the same plan as me) from her nexus 5X. It shows the same thing but when she puts it back into her phone it shows just "T-mobile"...unlike mines
Its displaying your sim card info, you have a 4g T-Mobile sim. When you are in a non 4g area it will show 3g etc.
Same here on my old phone it did not display the 4g but the OPX shows it, giffgaff 4G
It's all good!
