Preface: About 3-4 months ago I had issues with the phone not locking to the airave for voice calls, but I could see the mobile light (on the airave) flash for data/3g transmissions. Spent a number of hours with airave tech support trying many different things include phone profile refresh, airave profile refresh, prl updates, factory reset, and some other things. None of these helped the situation. Then, about 2 or 3 weeks later everything worked properly all of a sudden. The 3 beeps returned to my inbound/outbound calls when within the airrave's proximity (indicating call is being routed through it rather than an actual tower).
Observations
After some testing on my end, I discovered several things when this issue was occurring.
From the ##debug#/field trail screen (you need sense for this). I was seeing the following:
http://db.tt/Ql4796Iu
When the phone used to work with the airrave for voice, my sid/nid was 4384/502.
When the issue is present, the phone locks onto sid 22439/120 . By all accounts, this sounded very much like a PRL issue more than anything else. The PRL of the airave had a lower priority than this new SID.
I made a post about this issue on s4gru.com. Shortly after, digiblur (our prl expert) joined the discussion and things made alot more sense. (See this thread for the discussion http://tinyurl.com/ayhk79j )
The solution was obvious, an entry to the prl had to be made that gave the airave greater priority than the 22439 sid, but only acted on one particular NID (502 ---- which appears to be consistent to all airaves, regardless of geographic region). So at this point, I knew what had to be done, but not quite how to do it. Digiblur made a very nice how to guide in the post above - see post #16.
Unfortunately, I never got a chance to actually try this out because sid 22439 was turned off and modifying the prl was no longer needed.... Until now!
About a week ago the issue resurfaced and no more airave for voice calls.
FIX:
*WARNING*: Use at your own risk, all typical and usual disclaimers of flashing anything/everything applies here. If you brick your phone, you can't hold me liable.
1) Pull existing PRL from phone
Unlike the old evo, we can't easily upload a prl to the new evo 4g lte by simply referencing a prl file from the dialer. The process is a bit more convoluted
A) Place phone into diag mode -- ##DIAG# in a sense dialer
B) You may need some new drivers http://db.tt/zc4HIsJK, use proper version for x86/x64. May have to manually force the driver.
C) Download the free version of DFS from http://www.cdmatool.com/
D) After installing and running the program (run as admin), select the proper port next to ports. It will say HTC DIAGNOSTIC INTERFACE COMx. Where x is some number.
E) Provide your 6 digit MSL code next to the box label SPC, then click on SPC to submit it to the phone. In the DFS LOG window, it will say "DEVICE UNLOCKED".
F) Just below where the MSL code was entered, click on PROGRAMMING, and just below that, NAM.
G) At the far right of the NAM window is the tool to manipulate the PRL.
Select READ to read it from the phone, then SAVE to save it to a file.
2) Modifying the PRL
You will need some tool to actually make the edits. I Used QPST's PRL editor.
Follow Digiblur's insturctions below - note, due to new prl's, the line numbers have changed, but the concept is the same.

Ok... here's what you want to do. Scroll down to 465. This should be the 22439 SID record with the Geo set to New. This is the first record in your geographic area. Right Click on the 95(A,B)1x system type of this record. Don't change it, just right click on it and hit insert record. This should push 22439 down one record.
Now look at 4384, it should be on record 473 now. Let's use this as a model for our new record.
1.On the blank #465 record, change it to 95(A,B)/1x.
2.Change Neg/Pref to Pref (if you put Neg, this tells your phone not to use this)
3.Geography is going to be New (will change the one below it in a few)
4.Priority will be More (means this record has more priority than the next one)
5.Acq Index will be the same as 4384 (tells it which channels to scan), should be 14.
6.Roam Indicator should be a 1 (1 = Sprint, 160 = US roaming icon, 228 = international roaming)
7.Assn Incl Should be Yes since we want EVDO
8.Assn Tag will be 16 to use the value 16 flagged records in this Geo for EVDO.
9.Pn Assn should be No
10.Data Assn should be No
11.SID should be 4384
12.NID should be 502.
Now very important, don't forget this. On record 466 (22439 SID) you need to change the Geo to Same.
I would also change the Preferred Roaming List ID at the top to something like 25996 or something weird so you can check your settings/about screen from time to time as Sprint will automatically update your PRL sometimes.
So basically what happens now is when your phone does a network scan it looks for 4384/502 (your airave) first. If it can't find it, it looks for the 22439 on 800SMR, if it can't find that it will look for the 4384/65535.
I haven't tested this as I have no way of testing it in my area so please let me know if this works. In theory it should work though.

Here's what the finished product looks like on PRL 25010, line 460 was added.
http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/9894/prly.png
3) Uploading the modified PRL
A) Referring back to step 1G above, simply load the modified prl into the DFS tool, then click write to submit to the phone.
B) Exit diag mode in the phone by pressing MENU, DISABLE
C) Reboot the phone
NOTE: If you don't have QPST or don't want to go through the hassle of modifying your own PRL, below is the modified one. It's based on PRL 25010; I call it 25011.
25011.PRL http://db.tt/wk9muM1j
So now, when at home, the phone locks to the airave for voice, and either LTE, wifi, or 3G (via airave) for data. Also, it transitions properly too. When the airave is unplugged, phone locks back onto SID 22439. When the airave is again available, phone locks back to it.
Although my particular signal level is acceptable when on the 22439 sid, the airave signal is obviously much stronger. A side benefit is better battery life.
So if I have an airave I can just change my PRL to 25011 using QPST or do I have to follow all the steps above?
BD, I wouldn't do anything unless you're having the issue I was.
Yea I have not had many problems with my Airave until last night the mobile light was flashing for hours it finally went green on it's own, may have just been a Sprint thing who knows and thanks for your reply
Flashing trying to establish a connection, or flashing because maybe someone else was locked on to it... Did you get the usual 3 beeps when making a call?
My issue came to be mainly after LTE was lit up around here. That's when I started noticing the phone connecting to that strange 22439 sid and handoffs to the airave were flaking out.
To be honest I was told when someone connected to the Airave there was a beep but... mine has never beeped even when I make a call. So maybe I have it hooked up wrong. My setup is modem to router to Airave. I had it modem to Airave to router before but I noticed my internet was slowing down could be all in my head but after I changed it my speeds went up
The three beeps I refer to are heard on the HANDSET's earpiece. Not from the airrave itself. The flashing top light (Mobile light) flashes during the device's init process and whenever there is a voice/data connection in use.
As for hooking up, modem - router - airave should be fine. Considering how much grief it's caused, I don't trust it to function as a router. In fact, I have a dedicated lan port on my wrt54g that separates the airave onto it's own subnet so it's completely isolated from the rest of my network.
Ok I was wondering why all of a sudden my phone would beep when I made a call hahaha thanks for clearing that up
I was having the same problem... So I called sprint and they sent me a new 2.5 airave. 2 days later perfect connection and faster 3g... Cost for me - $0.00
^^How did you describe your problem to them?
I told 'em mine would work for data but not voice.
They never offered to swap it out for me. Too late now.

I told them nothing worked.. then they had me trouble shoot over the phone... Only one light would come on before during and after. So the tech said that it was shot and they would send one out..

2.5 airrave?? I'm curious which one that is, i have a tall white one, my evo 3d would connect fine but the evo connects sometimes and usually it wont, also when my phone has lte (at home) it randomly drops to 3g or 1x and does a dance...
Sent from my EVO LTE 4G
Thanks!
I stumbled across this thread after a frustrating 3 days, and 8+ hours on the phone with Airave support. I don't have an Evo, but I do have a Galaxy S3 and was experiencing similar problems. My GS3 would not connect to the Airave 2.5 at all. They suggested replacing my handset (for a refurb, nonetheless), but I was convinced it had to be something else.
After installing your modified PRL, it works perfectly. I connect to the Airave with no problem for voice every time.
Thank you! :good:
The prl i linked in the OP is a bit outdated at this point, but the technique is still good. Grab a current prl from one of the prl threads and just apply the change.
Attached is a modified 16013 prl. I renamed it to 16913 .
After downloading just rename to 16913.prl, it's not an actual zip file.
You an also dial *99 it will now connected to air rave coverage
Sent from magical jelly bean.
@gpz1100, two questions. First, I have done this yet my phone will still randomly prefer anything over my airave. Using the modded PRL used to work but about 2 weeks ago quit. When I say anything, Sprint PCS, Sprint 1xA or even Verizon. Been through all the support stuff, went back to stock PRL and activation. Thoughts??
Second, when I use DFS to read the PRL and then save it, the PRL file is 0 bytes. I can load up a saved PRL file and write it to the phone no problem so the basics have been covered. This would be a S3.
It seems you've left the big S though.
1) Need to where in the PRL you've added the airave sid/nid combo. Location makes a difference because entries at the top have greater priority than those at the bottom. Use a tool like cdma field test tool to determine where you're actually connecting. Then see where that SID is in the prl relative to your airrave sid.
2) Something is wrong, are you unlocking the device properly before reading the prl? Perhaps you need to use a 16 digit password to read the prl? I'm not familiar with the s3, so you'll get little help there. Maybe check in the s3 section to see what's required to successfully read a prl.
3) I am officially done with sprint. Good riddance. Going on over a month now on a big red mvno. Data much improved over sprint.

I actually went to the last entry in the previous Geo and over-wrote that with SID 4418 NID 501 which are what my Airave is transmitting on. I made that entry "new" for the Geo I'm in and changed the previous first Geo entry to same. Digiblur suggested I see what channel my Airave was transmitting on to make sure the channel was in the the acq record for me Geo. That channel was not so I added it. From then things were great until about 2 weeks ago. Since then it seems several people are having problems connecting to the Airave's.
The device gets unlocked, I get message indicating so in the DFS log.
I dunno. Frustrating.
Ok so I too had this issue with my evo4g lte not connecting to my new airave 2.5. I called airave customer support and after trouble shooting some things the tech finally pushed a new prl to my phone and all was taken care of. I am using prl 61096. He said if my phone tried to update the prl automatically I would loose the ability to connect to my airave so I just switched back to cm10.2 after I hung up the phone with them and I haven't had an issue with it yet.
If you don't have a need for huge data consumption, and verizon has good coverage in your area, come to the darkside - prepaid... Even save a few bucks!
@SleepyS40, you are very lucky you got a competent tech who understood why it wasn't connecting. Those are few and far between (competent techs that is). Had you remained on sense, sprint could potentially push a prl update automatically.

I always seem to get the rom updated, 3.27 radio. DCD, Dizzle, or any other rom produces same results. Calls/SMS work fine, even 1X data works. Anytime it goes to EVDO it can't transmit data. I get the dreaded 1012 error. I've run through all the threads here, and i have no idea where to go from here. Any suggestions? If i force 1x, it works consistently, and the signal is at about 5 bars constantly. If i enable EVDO, the signal drops to 1-2 bars in teh same spot. I can reproduce this all the time.

the 1012 error is probably due to programming: mobile ip profile 1, username and pass. you might try assigning yourself a new NAI by creating a new username on sprint.com (from your pc)
as for the signal strength... you are seeing 2 different signals. EvDO and 1xRTT are on completely different bands, and should be different signal levels. However, the sprint evdo icon replacement (you know how the antenna icon on the sprint build shows more "bars") is misleading - it has a max 7 bars for 1x and max 4 bars for Ev (i think - going from memory- im at work)

I can't change that info on the site, it's a family acct and my dad has the info for that. I am on the phone with someone now, and it looks like they are changing some stuff on their end. we've troubleshooted the phone, she says if this doesn't work, they're blaming the phone. I'm not ready to blame the phone yet
EDIT: She fixed it! apparently she disabled and re-enabled my data services and that did the trick. Cool info about the signal strength indicator, i thought i was only getting about 50% EVDO. Apparently i'm getting 2-3 in here, and i got 4 when i went to lunch so I suppose it's about right.

tell them to assign you a new NAI. then run IOTA and let it populate the mip profile with this new info (could take a few hours after they assign new NAI before its all the way thru their system)

I'll keep that in mind if this ever happens again. It's fixed and working like a champ now. I am curious as to why this happened though...it has to be something with me flashing all these roms and whatnot. If i keep flashing ROM's is there any chance that this will happen again?

officially: i dont know
unofficially: i think that as 3.16 is an internal, testing rom, it does some strange things. the radio is a major upgrade, and the official updater goes through a longer process. i first upgraded using the real RUU, and i have never lost any settings. but something about breaking the update down into parts and flashing the radio individually wipes it. that said, i dont think we will see this again, unless we see another upgrade that is this major.
A little bit of self pimpage here... But a decent first post I think. Copied this from my post on ppcgeeks
PRL info
Attached is the Sprint 60613 PRL file
Here are the procedures I used to extract it
PRL Extract Procedures:
Not sure if this works on other phones. As long as it's htc ppc, I'm assuming it should...
YOU WILL NEED YOUR MSL FOR THIS PROCEDURE
NOTE: This was accomplished on XP 32bit for a Sprint Mogul/Titan. I am not responsible if you screw up your phone or pc with these procedures. This is what worked fine for me.
1. Install qpst - (if this is a restricted program please let me know - url can be yanked)
www.menekali.com/qpst-27-build-215-direct-download/
RS Mirror: http://rapidshare.com/files/123491631/QPST_2.7_B215.zip.html
2. Install HTC Diag Drivers
http://www.vzam.net/uploadedfiles/WModemDriverInstaller.exe
RS Mirror: http://rapidshare.com/files/123491632/WModemDriverInstaller.exe.html
3. Put Mogul in Diag mode (dial ##3424#) if on a custom rom it can also be listed as DMR or DM Router
4. Connect Mogul - it should autoload the drivers, you may have to point it to the correct directory though. Should be "C:\Program Files\HTC\WModem_Installer\WinXp"
5. Open QPST Configuration
6. Goto ports tab
7. Click "Add New Port".
8. Select the port listed as USB/QC Diagnostics (may vary, just don't use the data modem one)
9. Goto Start Clients Dropdown > Service Programming
10. Service Programming > Your phone should be selected - hit ok
11. Click "Read from Phone", Enter MSL, Fields should populate, don't worry about what tab you are one
12. Click "Save to File" - save to wherever you want, just remember where
The prl will be located in the directory you saved the file in.
It will be labled as <yourphoneesn>_sp.rl0
Enjoy!
Much thanks to osva of ppcgeeks for the hints at the original procedures.
thanks to jamesfelarca on XDA for the drivers for qpst
P.S. sent a copy to corolada - don't bother
***EDIT***
Thanks to bacspasm of ppcgeeks... If you get a roaming error or any kind of calling issues do a soft reset and give it some time, looks like this new prl might take a little bit to acquire the tower.

What you fail to realize is that 60711 is two revisions older than 60613. LOL
The last two numbers are the revision. "6" means phone and "7" means data card. So your 60711 is a very old data card PRL.
from my post over at SprintMogul.net and PPCGeeks...
I hate to sound like a stickler... but you do know their is a MUCH MUCH MUCH easier way of updating the PRL on your phone....
1) Simply take the PRL file for 60613 place it on the root of your MicroSD card...
2) Go to the dialer...
3) Input ##PRL# (no need for MSL if i remember correctly...)
4) Click brouse for the file...
5) update...
6) ???
7) PROFIT!!!!!!...... i mean your phone should have updated and restarted back on step 5... GLHF
I tried this, and it put me in roaming. I left it sitting for 6 hours this morning, and nothing...

Yeah, I had to do a little research on that one too. With my Sprint Mogul I'm getting alot better reception on where I am now on 60613 (I'm in Iowa, 1-2 bars more depending on area). I'm happy so far.

I was under the impressions that a PRL can also add a tower if one has been added in your area. Is this not so? I'm generally roaming so it can harder to tell for me. Why would my signal have gone up otherwise?

if your carrier acquired another carrier it is possible.
your phone associates to a SID and the PRL defines these SIDs.
when a new tower goes active within your SID, your phone immediately sees it. an updated list of SIDs (PRL) would have no effect in this case.
however if another SID in your area was previously considered roaming and is now considered home, it would be entirely possible for your phone to attach to towers not previously used, and your signal strength to improve.
edit: usually a carrier updates their PRL for these reasons:
removal or acquisition of another carrier or new area
change in roaming decision to reduce costs to the carrier
addition or removal of EvDO network subnets
I live in iPCS land and EvDO seems to be going up here (finally). I think it was 60612 that activated EvDO here. As iPCS is the last standing sprint affiliate, I wouldnt be surprised if the recent PRL updates are meant to effect iPCS customers (midwest, IL IN MI IA area)
Thanks DCD, that was very informative. It's nice to have someone with your level of knowledge chime in on the topic.
I've also heard that this latest PRL change does affect quite a bit in the Midwest. Experience would seem to point that way as well.
*sigh* I still can't wait for those east coast EVDO speeds though. I normally cap out at about 300kbps burst.
So you say 6 designates phone and 7 data cards. I'm currently running 60711 and it's been great as far as I can tell. I'll probably update to 613 and see if I notice any significant changes.
Question: Are there any pros or cons to running a 7 series prl as opposed to a 6 series? I know that noticeable changes could be user specific, but aside from that.. any techinical pros/cons to 7 vs. 6 or vice versa?

What dcd said is completely true.
The PRL only has two parts to it. It has an acquisition table and a system table.
The acquisition table is an indexed list of frequencies your phone can use to search for systems. Each entry in the acquisition table includes an index, network type, and associated channel blocks.
The system table is a list of system entries. Each entry includes an index from the acquisition table so it knows what frequencies to search on, a roaming indicator to let you know whether you're receiving service from a roaming partner, and a system (in our case, 1xRTT and 1xEVDO systems). Each 1xRTT system is identified by an SID/NID and each 1xEVDO system is identified by a subnet ID.
It's a misconception that the PRL has individual tower information. If your carrier puts up a new tower in your SID area, your phone automatically receives signal from it just as long as the SID in your PRL is considered home.
I gotcha, so in simple terms the signal increase was most likely due to a change to the path (possibly a tower that was roaming previously is no longer considered roaming due to a agreement change). Makes alot of sense too...
Thanks to both of you, GC14 and DCD. My knowledge of PRLs has just increased exponentially.

is this still the most up to date prl for sprint mogul?
http://www.corolada.com/prl/
This is a repost because of the lost threads. The most current for sprint is 60652 and is not listed in the above link.
All a sprint user has to do is call *2 and it will ask you to enter your phone number and it will automatically update for you and it may soft reset your phone.
I've had Sprint PRL 60651 for about three weeks now. I'm running Windows 7 x64 7068 and I'm having a hard time taking the PRL off my phones. Call *2 or ask chat agent for a PRL update.
*edit*
I have this PRL on a Blackberry 8330, Blackberry 8830, and my Mogul.
I posted 60651 and 60652 here. Look towards the end of the thread. I submitted them to Corolada PRL page over a week ago.

Anyone been successful using their Airave with their Evo 3d?
I am successful it but requires (1) toggling roaming mode to Sprint only, (2) hard reset (remove battery) and (3) update PRL---EVERY TIME I want to get on Airave....worse, if I leave the Airave coverage, my data keeps working, but I can't make or receive phone calls--have to do ANOTHER Hard reset + PRL update. Since I have my 3VO in an Otterbox Defender case, it really makes the entire situation NOT WORTH IT...(Already been on tech support for 4+ hours on this issue...)
Oh and my wife's Samsung Restore won't even connect at ALL lol....
So has anyone been able to seamlessly enter/exit their airave coverage on the 3VO without any hassles?
Thanks in advance!

As far as I can tell, my Evo 3d switches to/from the Airave just fine. Admittedly, I almost never talk on the phone. I don't know how well it's working.
What model of Airave do you have? I've got one of the originals.
Woah.....dude I'm jealous. Mine is a HubBub C1 600 RT...I'm assuming it's a fairly recent model as I just received it and it looked new...it's labeled "Airvana" as well. Also, you can tell if you're making your call on Airave or not by listening for a few extra tones at the beginning of an outgoing call, or by simply dialing *99 and it'll tell you if you're on the Airave network.
So maybe only the newer models are ****ed up with Android?? Maybe I should call and request an older model...
mine works the same way the evo4g did; if you start a call on the airrave, and leave the house/area, the call will probably drop off; if you start a call outside of airrave coverage, and them come into the house, you do NOT lose any calls..
I have the new airave
OK, so long story short, these units ARE working with Evo 3D/Android 2.3 etc..........
....this is so ****ing annoying. If it works for you all it should work for me. I have no idea why it isn't. I guess I'll just be patient....or maybe I should ask them to send me another unit, hmm....

Ah gotcha. Well even if it dropped calls as I was leaving or entering the coverage area that would be fine...it's the hard reboot + prl update that's killing me...
I think you have a bad unit...either the phone or the airvana...I am running great with mine, and don't drop calls coming or going. 3G works great (when I'm not using my wifi network) and I am showing full bars for service. I would call sprint and have them resolve this, something needs to be replaced.
Mine works in and out. Just mine though. Everyone else here connects fine. (2 evo 3ds & 3 evos)

We just got an airrave this week and it works fine with me Evo 3d no need even to power off.
Mine works fine. But I only have the original one.
Mine is maybe a few years old. Works fine for me, same as evo 4g.
Mine has never been able to acquire the airave when I arrive home. From what I read here that is not normal?

my 3D works fine with the my air rave unit. I never did anything, it just worked as soon as it was activated.

I had one of the first Airvana's when they came out. It wouldn't work with my 3D for some reason. Sprint tech support shipped me a new one and it works perfectly, I don't know if I had a firmware issue or something, but the new one works perfectly.
I've had my airwave by sprint since the samsung instincts came out and never had a problem with it unless the power or cable went out...keep in mind that ONLY cdma phones will work with it,a broadband phone like the renagade 950(worst phone ever made anyway)won't work....maybe your unit is bad,it also has to be activated,it costs $4.95 amonth but well worth it....hope this helps alittle
hope mine isn't a bad apple when it arrives spent like my whole day off last fridayon phone and in corporate store with various sprint agents *****ing cause they gave me a run around about getting it for free as i lost all my reception once i switched from evo4g to the evo 3d in my apartment .You have to be a ***** but they eventually said they would ship me mine... waiting patiently for it to arrive atm
if i at least received my text messages in a timely fashion as i did on my evo and such in apartment i wouldn't care but the evo3d has 3 bars less the the evo4g did meaning no bars inside so i had to ask for one as i wasn't accepting the switch back to evo4g they suggested
and was very surprised they were so hard to work with they usually are my favorite reps to deal with tbh
i had 4 people i had to talk too.. they even gave the corporate rep the run around when in doubt demand a manager after u nicely ask for the employee number that always seems to get it done

I hope the Airave helps you too--but have you considered that your phone is bad? I don't think I've heard widespread reports of 3D being worse reception than the 4G...
Also, there are a few semi-hacks (using CDMA workshop, QPST, etc) that can help speed up your internet or put you on roaming to better towers----check out the development section
More thoughts
So I just got off the phone with customer support; I was told to reset it one more time and see if that helps; if not, to call back in and they'd send a replacement.
To recap, the issues I've been having are:
1) Evo 3D must have PRL update every time I come home to find the airave
2) Airave only gives 5 bars if I'm 5 feet away. 20 feet away + a wall = 2 bars again!
3) I've never successfully transferred a call either into or out of Airave--if I leave the house the phone cuts off 100% of the time
4) Wife's Samsung Restore has never been able to connect to Airave at all
All these stack up to my thinking it's the unit itself--especially since others have said their unit works fine w/ the Evo.
Questions:
1) Has anyone else reset their unit? Did the lights or anything change, because mine didn't.
2) Has anyone noticed a difference (Either in wifi speed or airave performance) between plugging airave into your wireless router as opposed to directly in your modem (w/ wireless connected to airave)?
Thanks for any help. I'm hoping my discussion here will help others trying to navigate the same bull****.

comcast here 50mbps i pay for
Modem>Airave>airport extreme base station> speedtest at 40mbps
Modem>Airport extreme base station>speedest 55mbps
nothign was uplaodign downloading on the network at the time
what they told me to do wasnt needed but added below for reference
Apple Airport Extreme
The airport extreme router does not have a DMZ instead you would set up for default host
1. Go into the Macintosh HD
2. Go to Applications>Utilities and select Airport Utility
3. Select Manual Setup.
4. Go to Advanced>Logs and Statistics>DHCP Clients and verify the IP address for the AIRAVE.
5. Go to Internet>NAT, check the box for ?Enable default host at? and place the IP address of the AIRAVE in that box.
Hit Update and powercycle the base station.

Does your Evo 3D have Google Voice?
Mine does, so that texts/voicemails go thru GV; but it's still my Sprint cell # being used.
Has anyone else had this issue with the airave? Whenever I get back into my house I guess my photon doesn't connect to the airave correctly and I get silent calls until I reboot my phone. Anyone else? I didn't have this issue with my 3d.
Airave is kinda old, that could be it.

I used to have that problem before the OTA update came out, but it happened regardless of whether I was by my Airave or not. The OTA seems to have solved it though

I was given an Airvana by Sprint a few months ago. I had major issues with the Nexus s 4G and the Airvana. It would work fine for a bit, then it would block all my incoming and out going calls. Sometimes it would miss route them as well. It was only on the Nexus and when I unplugged the Airvana everything would work again. That's actually how I got the Photon. Sprint sent it to me to address the issue. You problems seem more like a well known bug with the phone that was addressed with the OTA.
I don't seem to be having any problems with the Photon and Airave at all. I have one of the older models that's voice only, I wish I had the one that's data as well.
I have the new airave and my photon connects just fine. I also don't have that issue anymore either where my evo would send the same message a million times to the same person...lol...not one blip with the mopho and airave!

I have the newer airave, and the Photon connects just fine. I do have problems with the airave fairly often. Probably once or twice a week I have to reboot the airave because it loses its internet connection, or stops putting calls through. The issue is always the airave, though, not the phone.
I guess I will have to see if sprint will send me a newer one. I have had this one for two years now and I really can't live without it. The reception in my house is terrible and if sprint didn't send me one of these for free I would have dropped my service........no point in having a carrier that you can only use outside your house
My parents have one of the new airraves and my photon connects but all I get is weird alien like sounds sounds like a scrambled code or something it is really weird and annoying if anyone knows of a fix please let me know

I have airave airvana and i get silent calls all the time. Had to unplug airave.
OK Guys here's the issue. I spoke with Airwave support and he had me do a test:
http://voiptest.packet8.net/
Click the Start Test Button. When it's finished the thing you are looking for the most is Jitter Rate( you will have 5 different catagories). If your Jitter Rate is High (mine was 65ms) you WILL NOT be able to maintain a VOIP call thru the Airwave (it has to be no higher than 5ms). The Sprint Rep told me to call my ISP (TWC) and have them Clean and Flush my line, I did, and my Jitter Rate went down to 1.1ms and my Airwave works GREAT. Have your lines Cleaned and Flushed and rerun the test and you WILL see a difference.
So I figured out my problem I forgot I had set my voice codac to 4GV and the air rave doesn't support that. switched it back to evrc-b and all is well.

I have this same issue - where 50% of my incoming calls never reach me and go straight to voicemail. Other times, I would not be able to call out and other times it would go without doing anything... same goes for incoming.
Spent hours back and forth with sprint tech, with battery pulls, profile updates, power cycling of airvana and phone and reseting airvana and photon - tried switching to "sprint only" / "any cdma" / "automatic" - nothing particularly gave better results.
After the voip test, everything was in range except for the jitter - mine was between 70-300ms and average in between that which you are right about VOIP not being optimal.
I tried explaining this to comcast (my isp) and they had no idea, saving signal, upstream/downstream is good..
*** How or what do you need to do to have them [the isp] "clean / flush" the line? Is there a better technical term to convey to them?
Is this something they do over the phone from their network side? I have a comcast tech coming in, and from what a sprint tech told me - there's a possibility that the cable lines to my apartment may have not been shielded well creating RF/radio frequency interference, which results in high jitter - so it, according to him is a physical issue - not sure.
I have an old samsung voice only airave - and this works perfect without changing anything...
Would love to get the 3g data back on the airvana and have this work.
This is a legit problem. Been dealing with it for about 4 months now. Started out where the everything works great after a power cycle. Then at some point the Nexus S 4G I had would stop working with the Airvana (the new Airave). All my calls in and out were blocked and other times my calls were incorrectly routed.
I was really weird because at times the Airvana would completely kill the radio on the Nexus. I would just have the signal bars with the little x over top. Other times I would roam on Verizon and no one was able to force me back to the Sprint Network.
I actually lost a some business due to my phone not receiving the calls.
However, as soon as I unplugged the Airvan everything went right back to normal.
My wife's Epic worked just fine as did the Hero, Evo and Evo 3D. Thats actually how I got the photon for free. I had just bought the Nexus outright and was not able to return it. My problems were so well documented that a manager called me one day and offered me an Evo 3D as a way of addressing the problem.
After 2 bad Evo 3D's they sent me the Photon. Everything worked well until last weekend. I had to kill the Airvana once again. My calls were getting blocked.
Apparently what has happened is that Sprint pushed an update to the Airvana and some customers will need to have the device reset on Sprints end. I tried resting it on my end and it's a no go. I just have had to much on my plate to call them again and deal with the scripted support.
Honestly, the radio in the Photon is way better then either of the Samsungs and even the Evo 3D. So it hasn't been a huge rush.
Hope this helps. Also thanks for writing this because I thought I was going crazy as Sprint claims to have never seen these problems before.
I even had a Sprint rep tell me he was going to "boost" the signal to my phone so I got better reception in my area.
It's definitely as I agree an airvana issue - as yourself - as soon as I turn off the airvana... everything works fine... or of out of the airvana network.
What was worse is that the trroubleshooting timing - when calling/testing with tech, it works... best was that they thought everything was great when they called to test incoming, A few minutes to wrap up, I asked if they could dial it once more... straight to voicemail I really wish it did get corrected
The 1st gen samsung hasn't given me any problems thus far which makes me wonder what the issue really is... I was given a replacement 2nd gen airvana because we thought the other airvana was going bad or malfunctioned somehow.
The airvana apparently has an "access menu" which I haven't looked at : the ip they gave me : 192.168.17.2 username : admin / password : admin (or blank). They said there weren't many things to change (I can't confirm this) from there ... i,e time zone/date
This ISP clean/flush looks interesting, but I don't know what that entails or how to convey the message to them to do it.
I lost a lot of calls which should have went through - I know that feeling. It's quite a bit of time to reconvey the issues over and over going through the same steps over and over (regardless of previous call log notes) - just hoping, that this time it will work....
Is it maybe a high jitter issue??
If your Jitter Rate is too high, it will NOT keep a constant VOIP call (that's what we are using with the Airwave, VOIP). I just tell TWC to Clean/FLush my line and they know what to do. You can also tell them to Reset your Modem. This all happens on Their end. The can Reset your Modem over their line.
same Issue
I had the same issue, i upgraded from the epic to the motorola photon, when i got home all my calls were blocked and i had no air rave coverage.*99 didnt go through. I went through the settings and did a manuel update to the latest motorola software to address the silent call issue. Then i logged into my sprint account online, and reconfigured the settings to my air rave(its the new air rave airvanna) After i restricted my airvanna air rave to only my cell phone number and my wifes, i turned off my phone and turned it on, and all my problems were solved. If anyone needs help finding the settings for your air rave, let me know, it took me some time to find it, i could help you locate it. It appears we all have indifferent issues with this phone. My problems been fixed since the 23rd of august. Still no issues today.
Right thanks - I had them "reset" and send a "refresh" signal to my modem - but that didn't do anything to the jitter unfortunately... still in the ~70ms range jitter. Is that what you mean then by "clean / flush" ?
Regarding the mention of restricting the your phone number on the website, yes this was a bit tricky to get to - I initially did use this, but removed my #.
I think my apartment complex has so many airvanas around because wherever I walk around to the outside, I am at times connected when I know it shouldn't...
Apparently - if anyone else comes to your residence that has a sprint connection, their sprint phones don't work - the old airave samsung was able to add multiple phone numbers in that situation. I forgot how long it took for the sprint network to accept the guests' phone #'s - but how much can we ask for?
I am not sure if you could add more "sprint" lines to the account if guests arrived with sprint phones to have it work...
Just got my Airave last night the thing is just disgusting! I love ti and couldn't ask for better. Got my own tower in my house. Still connected down the street too. Frickin sweet. No silent calls here, will respond with more use too.

So here goes...
I'm on travel for the holidays, and we arrive in a backwoods Vermont town, then suddenly I lose cell signal, no biggie, this is usually expected in Vermont, but since we bring along our Wilson 45dbm cell booster, I usually regain my signal to full bars as soon as we turn it on (no matter where we are). I just thought that maybe the tower in the area was down from the snow we just got.
I thought nothing of it, until when we arrived at out destination and then I notice my phone still had no signal. At my suggestion a few years ago, I convinced the family we visited to invest in a Wilson home booster, which my wife currently has no problem picking up a signal from.
So this got me thinking, well maybe my PRL file was outdated/updated and the cell tower is not in my list. So I notice my wife has version 60690, and I had version 21090. Wow this must be really really old I thought, so I followed instructions using QPST and upgraded mine to the same version as my wife's. Still nothing, no signal what-so-ever.
Then I noticed that Sprint is upgrading their network and this meant that the newest version numbers were in the range of what I had on my phone originally, and now I think someone said 21092 is the absolute latest for the Evo 3D. So with this said, maybe I need to update my PRL to 21092, problem is I can't without a signal, and so far no one has posted it on any site yet. Anyone have the latest PRL file that I could try?
Then today I got to thinking that maybe the problem started at the car ride with the booster. Did my booster output too much power that it fried my radio? The car booster uses a stick-on antenna, not the direct to phone connector cable, so I don't see how it could have over saturated the radio, but now I am second guessing that notion. Or maybe, could my phone have a different radio than my wife's phone? I'm sure my evo3d was working the last time I was here in Vermont, but I'm not 100% certain it was the same phone.
So with this said, how can someone verify that the radio is shot? I've tried entering field trial mode using ##33284# to see if there is even a signal dbm level being reported, which it seems to see something because it does fluctuate.
Attached are some photos. Thanks!
For prls on the 3d I run the sprint corporate prls. I believe the latest we have on xda is 12126. The benefit of these is that when roaming it gives full 3g on the Verizon network as opposed to your 21xxx prl that only gives 1x. These prls I believe are distributed to customers in corporate accounts with sprint. I've been running 12124 with no problem s, I just haven't updated yet. I'm pretty sure there's a thread in the general section on this. I'm on tapatalk or I'd link you. Anyways, I doubt you fried anything... I've loaded the prl you did before and it didn't pull any signal for me either on my 3d... I have no clue what the difference is though.

I have no idea what your problem is but just wanted to say that I love the title of your thread. Sounds like a country and western song to me.
ramjet73
I forgot to add that this is a US Cellular tower that shows up as roaming on the sprint network. It's my understanding that prl files list roaming towers only, so it would seem to imply that something is wrong with the prl file. But then why does my wife's phone work when mine doesn't using the same prl. Anyhow, maybe I will try a corporate prl for giggles, just to see if it still even works. Thanks for the suggestion, I will try it soon and let you know!
Oh and thanks for the country song title idea, I should have had more fun with that one!

Thanks p3tr0s, I think I used the corporate PRL you suggested and after QPST rebooted the phone, I still had no signal. But somewhere in between going into my ICS >Settings>Mobile networks and toggling all the Domestic/Roaming/Guards and setting them back (even though this still did not give me signal), then going into >Settings>Usage and toggling Mobile Network suddenly my phone finally connect to the cell tower. Immediately after a good connection, I did a PRL update (in >Settings>System updates), and now it is using the latest 21092 PRL and it is still working just fine, so now I'm totally confused. I'm thinking that the issue was resolved somehow with the toggles. Even though I had tried toggling the Usage mobile setting and a couple of the data options on previous PRL's, I hadn't tried toggling all of them in the Mobile networks area as I did this time. But, then again, this is the first time I have gotten a signal, so maybe the combination of the corporate PRL worked is some weird way. Thanks!
