Chrome Beta
Chrome Beta seems to be faster than AOSP Browser based on this test, but real-world usage is what matters most. Anyone have any feedback?
Sunspider ran on CM 10.1 (1/10) Nightly + Deadline/Performance
On the positive, Chrome on the Nexus 10 is now as fast as the Chromebook, shame N10 didn't launch with this browser, it would have ruled the benchmarks.
The negative, try using www.theverge.com, IMO ASOP is still smoother, I now this is beta, but seriously Google please do not release Chrome v25 and still be less smooth than stock browser.
Beta is much much faster. Pages scroll without lag and loading times.

I posted this for the nexus 4 users:
This build won't include the new renderer that improves the scrolling as it isn't finished yet (but should be ready by the time the final version comes).
Heres the list of open issues,

This issue here is the one we've all been waiting for, It should finally improve the speed of the scrolling for good

Any bugs yet?

It seems a bit snappier but still crashes just as quickly. I'll continue to use Boat until chrome is mor stable.

Same. Someone should just record them-self using Chrome, just so I can see some crashing action (I really don't think I've ever seen Chrome crash personally).

I'm going to try and duplicate it.
I would love to be able to stick with Chrome, as said elsewhere...for the syncing of bookmarks, browsing history, etc.
I would LOVE it.
But literally within 5 minutes of the beta download, same thing.
And I'm stock ROM, unrooted...so take that out of the equation.
If I can duplicate it, I'll post up a quick vid.
I've had it lock up to where I've had to power off/power back on. I've had it lock up for 30 to 40 seconds...then finally wake up, and I've had it just close without touching or using it (Reading an article).
http://googlechromereleases.blogspot.com/2013/01/chrome-beta-for-android-update_24.html
Apparently you can also now use GPU acceleration, and WebGL (I haven't tried it yet)
Literally, first page I went to on chrome beta, that works fine in chrome, locked up 10.

Chrome beta has now got to the point where it is my daily driver. AOSP still scrolls smoother and renders quicker, but the difference is small. Chrome loads pages quicker, and works better on limited internet connections. It also has much better compatability with weird sites than aosp.
Obviously there are still bugs to iron out, but its getting there! :good:
Ever since the Feb 1st update this as become my go to browser. Scrolling is now extremely smooth. As good as I've seen in most uses. It also renders pages extremely fast and has been stable as a rock. Nice to see Google finally catch up!

They finally moved rendering to a different thread. It took them a ton of work to get it done. There's still some work left to be done but its much better now.

Hello!
So I decided to test drive the Note and the screen is awesome , although I did notice banding so that is a problem but anyway my main issue now is performance.
Everything just lags and performance of games is not good.
I am comparing to my Captivate and mine scored over 1300 Vellamo vs not even 800 in the Note.
Same thing with many other things.
Going in and out of the Applications menu with Golauncher just hiccups or is plainly not smooth.
Scrolling on the browser is also not smooth.
Now my Captivate is running ICS but even at 1Ghz it scores almost 1000 points in Vellamo and feels smoother vs this dual core at 1.5Ghz
Is all the junk that comes from factory really destroying its performance?
I have seen other scores that are very good.
I may have to go with the International version but somehow I doubt the difference between the two is really that big and I doubt my captivate is supposed to outclass this monster.
Is a beauty so I really want to make sure this is just an issue with its stock configuration.
Regards
Root, flash custom ROM, boom no lag
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
Hmm... My Note is blazingly fast. Everything is super smooth and there's no lag anywhere.
But I don't run GO apps. As far as I can tell, I GO apps are a huge resource for hogs.
You might want to try and unintelligible GO Launcher and see if that helps.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I'm running Rogers stock, with bloat removed and da_g's overclock kernal at 1.7gHz with Go launcher, and believe me this thing don't lag.
Maybe try getting all that carrier crap off of the thing, tweek it out a bit.
Sent from my SGH-I717R using xda premium
Ok so it must be the crap in this one. I know go launcher runs fine with my captivate so no reason it wont run fine here.
Do you see banding when launching the xda app?
The stock Notes do have lag. I think its a combo of this crazy screen size and the weird aspect ratio. Regular apps just weren't meant to fit on a screen this shape. Most of us have long since solved the lag problem, but it takes tinkerin'. Worth it, though...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
I noticed the same thing on gingerbread. Moving to ICS made a huge difference. If you just testing make sure you see the difference ICS this makes because it really shows the potential. Also what you'll notice is not much has happened in kernel development for gingerbread. Its not worth it with ICS hopefully being official very soon. If your comparing a captivate running all the latest goodies to the note running stock ginger bread, I understand your hesitation, but the the ICS leaks make a huge improvement in the performance on this device. Try making a comparison between stock kk4, and aosp slim rom on the captivate. There isn't one. Hope this helps

Remember, this is the first type of phone samsung has ever made. Ofcorse there are gonna be some issues. The next note will definitely be smoother stock on tw. But with android, we love customization. Once official ICS releases, it should be better.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
Go launcher will be buggy its not optimized for this phone IMO its laggy but my note was very smooth and fast out the box idk yours ain't use a different launcher besides go launcher its a ram hog and battery hog I promise adw fine if ur still stock or something similar I'm using apex on ics smooth to

I use adw as default on the note and it works great except the wallpaper scrolling is still borked.
I really hope banding and blotchy blacks gets a fix when source drops. Other than those issues I've not had issues worth complaining about.

Im still stock and unrooted (just got it 4 days ago) and i immediatly started running adw ex. Runs excellent. I also uninstalled as much att sh!t as i could runs verrrry nice now...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, out of the box the phone was ok. The screen/size made me overlook the minor hesitations and quirks. Well that, and I got it when my inspire4g took an unexpected **** on me so I really just walked into the att store and bought the phone that was the biggest step up from my inspire and the most interesting. And, being an ecet major I follow all of the reviews and releases so I knew it was at the very least decent.
I was about to graduate so I didn't have much time to tinker with it because of projects/finals and I'd been a pretty big HTC fanboi since windows mobile days so Samsung stuff (Odin, etc) was all new to me. Do I ran it stock plus AdwEx for at least a month I think and it was rock solid and smooth. I think I probably tried every single launcher there is, and still ended up back on AdwEx. (seriously, tsf, spb, hi, ex, vtl, modded TW, all of them) Most of the launchers could be made smooth with some tweaking and less fancy transitions, but most lacked many options I've gotten used to with AdwEx and nova.
That said, when I finally got the time I installed CWM, rooted the stock, and decided **** this and moved to ICS all in the same evening.
I missed ICS since I had it on my inspire, and it seems to have made the GNote amazing. Currently on previous build of team perfection objection ICS from appdroid, and have run all the others as well.
I ran nova prime for a good bit and that was very smooth. I switched to GOlauncher just to see what all the hype was about and ran that for a good bit, but couldn't stand their menus and just wanting me to buy stupid widgets and themes. It was decently smooth, but felt it may have imparted some lag on other parts of the phone at times. I can't rely prove that, I just know it's smoother with it uninstalled and a different launcher.
I finally switched back to AdwEx. So I'm running ICS with AdwEx, widget locker, and chompsms. It's super smooth. Most common issue is XDA premium force closing.
Once they release kernel source, I have no doubt this phone will be a decent powerhouse. I also don't think I've had a phone before that incited such love/hate amongst random people in bars and out and about. Some people will say oh my good is that the new phone tablet thing wow! Some hardcore ios guys sneer and say how it's way too big and unnecessary and how their screen size is superior and this would never fit in a pocket!
It's an awesome phone, I think the 16:10 aspect ratio, tablet resolution, att/Samsung bloat, and gingerbread were definitely holding it back a tiny bit at first. But apps will get updated, and aosp/source will make it killer.
I type too much...unemployed lol.
Here's some benchmarks...all on battery lol.

So true. My impression of the ATT version stock was HORRIBLE. I couldnt believe how my Captivate was just kicking its ass in every possible way.
Now with my international Note and a GB Rom (for now) this thing is a beast...I love this phone!

I used to hate lags I'm experiencing after switching from iphone. Even simple apps like phone, sms, and contacts lag at initial launch.
I haven't done anything to my stock GB like rooting and deleting rogers bloat stuff. Perhaps it will get rid of lag issue but I just learned to live with it!!! Iphone wasnt perfect phone neither.

You are correct assuming at least one Dev likes the device enough to keep pumping out updates to their ROM. I had an ancient Galaxy Tab P-1000, given to me by a relative still in the original box. That tab came with Android Gingerbread. An XDA Dev was still supporting it with a ROM which had Android 4.3 (now maybe even more recent). So if that can be a guide then as long as there is at least one Dev and the hardware can handle the OS then you have hope of Android M and beyond.

But if Google doesn't provide aosp images for a device, how does an interested developer begin to build a custom ROM? Just asking because I'm ignorant about android development.

Images are compiled versions of the code. Google publishes AOSP code to the public (including the upcoming Android-M). The hardware "blobs" are proprietary (interface between HW e.g. WiFi radio) and software. I believe that a Dev would use the latest "blob" they can get along with the latest AOSP code to compile and create a ROM (set of images). The "blobs" would not be updated more than an older official release. I do not make my own ROMs so am a little hazy on all the details but ROMs definitely use the public AOSP code before adding alterations.

But you should consider the great variety of ROMs that we've been able to choose from, and the degree of freedom we've enjoyed in customising our systems.
On your iPhone, you're locked into iOS, with no system-level access, and nowhere else to go.
Sooner or later, your iPhone 4s will stop being officially supported by Apple. At that point, your device will truly become obsolete, while older Nexus devices will probably continue to receive updates through community effort.
well, that's disappointing, considering how mine is still rocking, and used pretty much every single day since launch.

I'm in the same boat. It will be a sad day once the device is not supported.
I have always had random reboots. A lot less frequent with each update. About a month ago my battery took a hit (not physical, no idea what happened) and now my battery only gets about half the amount of screen time between charges. Even with these 2 issues I still love and use the device every day. I am all about the latest android updates and the nexus line is the only way to go with those priorities. Looked into the n9 but disappointed in the battery life (around 5 hours.. The same I currently get on my n10 with half the amount it had when new).
Not sure where to go for my tablet needs if no new tablet is released this year... Which sounds like the case. I love the sock android experience without the bugs of cm or cm based Roms.... And if I did want to go with the cm route it runs best on Nexus. I have the n6 so the n7 feels too small.
It has been a great ride n10 and you will never be forgotten in my books....
I'm no stranger to unsupported devices. My last tablet was an HP TouchPad. lol. Wether Google gives the Nexus 10 Android M or not, Im sure we will still be able to run it unofficially thanks to the devs.
I'm not giving up on M yet. The Nexus 4 didn't get the L preview but still got Lollipop. The N10 has gotten quite a bit of love from Google so we shall see.
As we all remember, the Nexus 4 did not get the Android L developer's preview but it still got Lollipop when it went publicly available.

You preview the latest and greatest. Google would have been stupid to give the N10 or N4 a preview of L/M. I'm honestly surprised the 5 got an M build, but as a hammerhead owner, I'm not complaining.
Also, nobody panic, BUT...... https://android.googlesource.com/device/samsung/manta/
The manta has a m-preview tag. To be fair, so does grouper, and I doubt grouper will see M. Though honestly, after using M for a day it seems to be a fine-tuning of L, nothing too crazy. I don't see why the manta couldn't handle M. Also interesting is that no announcement of the Nexus Update Policy was made at I/O. Google might have backpedaled. We shall see...

EDIT!!!!!: That tag has an honest-to-goodness commit, manta-specific, based on M. I can only assume it's also on the mnc-dev branch. Mako also has a MNC kernel commit. The N10 might actually, officially see M!
I hit reply instead of edit, but oh well. It's worth it.

Out of curiosity, how are you telling how well Doze is working? I'm running Dev Preview 3 on my N6 and it's been awesome. I'm not a heavy phone user, it mainly sits on my desk at work (and at home for that matter) and the battery life has been great, drains very slowy while I'm not touching it. exponentially better than my S6. which isn't saying much
Yeesssssssss!!!

Anybody else "magically" get an invite after buying the 6P? Might be connected. Also, yes the 6P will have an always-listening mode like the Moto X. Gesture recognition sounds exciting too, native DT2W anybody?

My phone doesn't sleep but then again I usually don't sit in one place for more than an hour as a college student. I haven't seen any change in my battery life from lollipop doing the same thing with the same apps. I still get random drain from apps like speed test constantly pinging my location for no reason despite not having it for days.
So I've decided tomove on from my Lumia 640 and Xaomi phones look really decent. I mainly think about basic version but Pro does offer more RAM and memory storage. Here's the usecase: MS Office apps, Youtube and social networks, navigator with cached maps, Hearthstone, Fallout Shelter and a couple of rhytm-games. I'm not a maniac for mobile games, however, having a potential for something heavier would be nice. Photos will go to Onedrive, music is also kept online, so for the most part it's only apps in the memory. Will Pro really give me an advantage? Higher price isn't really a problem. However, Pro was just released less than 2 weeks ago so there are no ROMs. I don't need much of a ROM, but I would definitely like Russian translation. I can go without it however, if the phone proves to be really good otherwise. Are there any other major problems with default firmware? And is there any info about progress on ROMs for 3 Pro?
If you can afford PRO version, there shouldn't be any doubt.

Money and delivery time isn't a problem, I'm just worried about the lack of firmware on Pro
If u use whatsapp, u may hv a problem with delayed notifications. Not sure if there's a reliable fix yet.

I just changed from Redmi 3 to 3 Pro for my 2nd phone. And I'm quite happy with Pro version. With 3G Ram, Finger and 32GB Int storage, it give you much better experience than Redmi 3
10x, seems what PRO version is better.
It's no brainer really, for ROM, it's the same as Redmi 3, and by the last developer ROM, fingerprint and storage/RAM issue is fixed , if you need stable, you just use the modified ROM that comes with the phone for the moment. As for language problem, there's a partial solution at http://en.miui.com/thread-262496-1-1.html that works without rooting or unlocking bootloader.

I also think that rom thing isn't a problem. Because the redmi 3 Pro is different with the raam and (32Go) nand memory, fingerprint (just another feature, not neccessary to run the roms) (I think we call this memory like this, right?) but all the rest is the same.
If the price isn't a problem, you should consider taking the pro. Long term thinking, it is better IMO to have more ram to avoid lag, slowness.
I'm sorry If what I say is a little bit confusing, I still have to exerce myself to talk about theses technical things in english !

I bought 2 redmi 3 pro. Yes there is notification delay in WhatsApp. and also one of my device not showing exact location on google maps. but it works on all other maps applications.......
I cant find the solution for this yet......I even tried locking the whatsapp . But no luck....
I OWN a Sony Xperia z3+ dual and never appreciated it till I bought this phone, despite mixed reviews on the Sony, the camera on it is miles ahead of the Galaxy A5 2017. It's a shame, this Phones ticks a lot of boxes. It's great to hold, a "battery beast" all day battery with a lot of surfing, nice screen, after my personal set up complete nice to use. I put on two camera apps that take better pics and add stabilization which for some reason is missing, open camera and camera MX
It's an 8/10 phone and would be a 9.5/10 if Samsung updates camera
Same, most of the time my photos captured from the stock camera is blurred so I use open camera which really stabilizes the shot but takes a little longer to capture a photo.
Just got my A5.17, is this "Open Camera" the one by Mark Harman?
After a week I found 3 camera apps that work better, best all around is open camera I set the stabilization for video and its pretty good, next is camera mx followed by camera fv-5, all seem decent. I found out that since this flashed UAE firmware that Samsung pay does not work but Android pay installs. Don't care too much since I do not like paying with phone except Starbucks. The battery is a beast and I'm getting over 10hours with continuous surfing and use. The screen is nice and bright, no real lagging with my use, hot spot works great. Swift key works as native on it.
Pretty happy overall.

No matter the Camera program the video shakes, why would samsung make such a great phone with a major flaw? I'M at a loss on this, flaming exploding phones and now phones that cannot shoot decent video. My Sony z3+ shoots nice and jitter free video, this phone has beautiful video that jitters no matter how still you hold it, even on hard surfaces. It can produce decent pictures

New topic on use here crashes, this thing crashes more than Windows Vista did. My Sony Z3 + dual is my comparison on marshmallow and with same apps no crashing, what's different? Has to be the TouchWiz software, I am beginning to believe it's crap

OK still experiencing problems with Crashes and restarts, its random, but it does seem worse when I'm Hot spotting, I need the hot spot since it will be internet source for the next 1.5 to 2 years
I'm wondering what is happening? My sony Z3+ with Marshmallow and same apps does not do this at all... could it be something with the Samsung software?
Open Camera is great.
What about AnTuTu scores.
I bought the A5 2 weeks ago. So far so good, battery is so amazing that I can use this phone 1,5 days on normal usage without charge. :good:
Tried so many big games and no lags on it. Very smooth
I hope this phone will get android nougat soon!
