Just about a week ago, I noticed my Prime's battery wouldn't charge above 74%. Sometimes it reads 63% and won't charge any further. The keyboard can go to 100% but prime stays at 74%. I have drained the battery fully, but it still only goes to 74%. I'll be doing an RMA for my prime in a few days (wifi, camera, mura).
Is this software or hardware? Should I just add that as a problem alongside the wifi, camera and mura? Thanks.

I had something similar happen to me. Might sound kind of stupid, but I flipped the power block 180° in the wall socket. Worth a shot before you rma.

Whoops, a bit too late - already in the post I'll be sure to give it a go if ASUS doesn't fix it.
Can someone tell me whether ASUS actually does *fix* or *improve* WiFi signal strength when sent in for RMA. It's just that the tablet is actually unusable without a piece of tinfoil on the bezel. Thanks.
oh I misread, scratch that. thought people were talking about dock charging mechanism used to conserve battery cycles.

What did they repair in order for the tablet to charge correctly? Before I had mine sent in for repairs due to an accidental brick; mine had also been showing some inconsistent battery readings. The tablet would show a certain percentage, but stay at that same percentage for about a minute, while it had eaten up about 3-5% from the dock before there were any noticeable changes in the tablet's overall charge.

Have you tried loading the Prime overnight while it is switched off? I do that from time to time, and until now it has always worked to get 100% charge back. Never could get completely rid of the problem though...

Hadn't used my dock for a couple of days and plugged in my Prime tonight to see how the dock held its charge. I was impressed to see the dock at 98%, which is right where I had left it. That's about perfect.

build quality on my dock sucked. the small screws in the bottom holding it all together werent flush, im returning it tomorrow and asking for a replacment, other than that its awesome!

Yes, that's something that ASUS needs to resolve. I get about 1.5%/hour usage when the Prime is docked and closed (and thus on standby), vs. about .25%/hour on standby for the tablet by itself.
That's better than what I get with my original Transformer when it's docked, which is closer to 2.5%/hour usage. But, it would be great if ASUS can figure out a way for the dock to not stop the tablet from entering deep sleep.

I don't see it as that much of a problem. If there's truly something about the dock that makes deep sleep on the tablet impossible (I have no idea if there is or not, and it really does remain to be seen), it's not an unreasonable solution to simply store them separately. Even carrying them separately isn't a problem, really.
I do hope that ASUS can enable deep sleep when docked, but if they can't it doesn't really reduce the usefulness of the dock for me. In fact, I use my tablet by itself the majority of the time in any case and thus tend to keep the two separate.
The fact that the dock maintains its charge when undocked is far more important to me, and it does that quite well.
Just a guess but I would assume it doesn't enter deep sleep because it will turn on the screen when you open it. If it is docked and you close it, the screen shuts off but it still needs to monitor the dock to see if you open it again. It would be nice to have an option to have it conserve power (as if it isn't docked) and you have to manually turn the screen on again.

I'm not saying it's the end of the world, but one of the attractions of the dock is to make a clamshell shape that will protect the tablet and keys during transport. sucks if it will drain the battery whenever you want to take it somewhere.
Mine does go into deep sleep, make sure in asus customized setting you put it in battery facet dock mode, then the keyboard doesn't wake the tab.

I have something setup wrong because my tablet sucks my dock dry in about 3 hours in use - it just never stops pulling the charge from the dock. I only let them sleep together once and it was a disaster ......dock was drained, tablets had rebooted I suppose because it was in some sort of different "mode", it still had life, but it was alien like life!

I last charged my tab on thursday night, its between mostly idle since then(like 3 hours total use since then) still have 77% on tab and 37% dock.

I'd been wondering how well it would hold a charge while docked, so last night I fully charged both the tablet and dock then left it closed from midnight (UK time.)
It sat on my desk like that until I got home from work at 17:15 this evening, opened it up and the dock was showing 99% and the prime 98% full charge.
I've not changed any of the power settings or docked settings yet, so that's running out of the box (post updates of course.)
Of course it's possible the battery indicator isn't accurately reflecting the amount of charge it's used, but based on those numbers it doesn't seem to be a problem.
Somewhat anecdotal evidence, I'll test it out a bit further this week and see if its actually entering deep sleep (presumably it is.)

This has been my experience as well. The dock does not seem to keep the screen any more awake than when they are not connected. I do love how the screen automatically comes up when you open it and turns off when you close it.
Man I love the two of these things together.
I have the Asus setting checked but my tab is like a vampire and sucks the dock battery dry in just a few hours time. There needs to be a deep sleep setting. It isn't really practical for me to disconnect the dock every time I stop using it. That takes away a good part of the portability aspect.

Do you mean when the Prime is completely charged (which is what this thread is about) or when the dock is charging the Prime? Because the dock battery IS smaller than the Prime's, and thus it will certainly discharge at a faster rate when charging the Prime's battery (until it runs out, of course).
Indeed, the dock shouldn't discharge AT ALL until the Prime is at 70% or less. So, if your Prime is 100% charged and it still sucks the dock battery dry in a few hours, then you're experiencing some other problem.
Again, this is about the Prime and dock both being at 100%, and whether or not the Prime enters deep sleep. It's not about the impact on the dock battery when the dock is actually charging the Prime from a less-than-70% state.

I think we have the same dock exactly what happens to me. I am assuming user error, a setting i don't have rught, but I'm not sure where else to check. My wifi is set t to never.

As I said in the post just before yours, if your Prime is at 70% or less, your dock will charge it which will definitely discharge the dock pretty quickly. If your Prime is at 100%, then it shouldn't be discharging the dock at all. If it is, then something's broken.

It doesnt charge randomly, it starts charging at around 70% until 90%, which is actually a good range to charge Lithium-Ion batteries! So you should be fine, relax

I am in same situation as you. I have ordered the Dual Case made by Minisuit from Amazon but I won't get it until later in March. I keep my Prime Docked 99% of the time and turn it Off and Keep on Charger when not in use.

my prime is always docked, only when I'm playing games or occasionally while surfing on the sofa will I take it off the dock
The one annoying thing about keeping it docked is I haven't yet got any good data on what the battery life of the docked Prime is. The data shown in the settings only show the time that it is undocked or when the dock has run out of battery.

FYI there have been a few reported cases of screens being cracked while docked without any drops or accidents. Some people seem to believe that the dock can put pressure on the screen because of how it closes. So keeping it in the dock might not actually be the best way to protect your screen. I never had the dock so I can't speak to the issue but check out:

I bought a TFP (with sn: C3O) less than a week ago from NetOnNet in Sweden. I'm loving it! Damn what a piece of hardware . But I did notice one thing. The only problem I had with it. When docked and sleeping, the battery would drain insanely fast!!
I found that many ppl pointed at the option; "Stay Awake - Screen never sleeps while charging". But making sure that it's unticked doesn't seem to be enough. After digging some more online. I found that ticking it and then unticking it again made all the difference! . And it did for me too!
I went from losing (not actual numbers) 12% battery/hour to losing only 0,2%/hour. Hope this info helps. And if it does, spread the word! .
Edit: I polished the numbers abit. My Prime is crazy efficient nowadays, and have been ever since the fix . I just wanna add that you MAY have to redo the fix after installing a new firmware.

Ahh yes, sorry bout that! I dont have me TFP here atm but it's in the Settings and then Developer Options. Me thinks atleast :$. It's the one that whines that performance may suffer if you tamper with them .

Awesome! . Nothing better than the feeling of helping others. If you install a new firmware you might have to redo the fix. Not sure about that since my came with the latest version available.
im still quite new to the tablet, can i just confirm that people are seeing this drain when the tablet is shutdown with a battery below 70%?

Yes, below 70% the dock kicks in and drains to 0% or something like 30%.
I think that depend on how low the tablet was and I think the dock stops charching the tablet when it has reached around 90%?
Shis really sucks, I would like to be able to stop the dock to auto-charge. That way I would be able to keep battery levels identical as when undocked and the tablet should only be charged when it's docked and in use.
Will this option ever be possible in stock or custom rom? Or is this "hardware-coded"?

For me the problem existed because the setting, Stay Awake, was "stuck". Which means that when the dock is connected to the tablet. The tablet thought that it was being charged, so it stayed awake. Using up lots of battery 24/7. Even when it was just idle/locked. And when the battery in the tablet dropped below 70% then the dock started charging it.
Problem is that since the tablet was using up lots of power, the docks power got drained. Cause it never managed to get the tablets power to 90%. At 90% it would've stopped charging it til the tablets power would've dropped below 70% again. Whew. Hope this answers your question .
I'm thinking that you could have the tablet and dock connected but instead of having them idle/locked you could turn them off completely. Should work. But that's not very practical now is it? =/.

I believe there is an option in the dock settings to change what percentage it starts to charge the tablet I'm not positive though because I don't have my prime in front of me but do remember seeing something about it.
Again I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure you can change it.

OK what in the hell am I doing wrong? Stock non rooted prime and I'm only getting around 6 hours of battery life out of it per day, I got more out of my tf101 then this....

I've been able to get about 12-15 hours of battery life with some pretty intensive gaming. you should probably get it replaced for another prime.

I get the same after the last .21 update. Can you look into you batt stats? Mine shows 60+% for wifi usage.
Ya mine Is normally a little less around 44%
Even if I turn my wifi off every time I turn my screen off I get the same amount, less then 7 hours before it dies. Are you getting more even with the new update and the wifi ussage being higher?

Hi, what I have noticed is that on my Prime the battery is very good, 5-10-% drop in 8-10 hours of minimal use, but if I keep it in the dock, it sucks up battery. I found it is much better without the dock. Can anyone test the same thing? I might need to see if I can get the dock replaced and see if there is a difference.
Well after replacing my Dock my issue was fixed, so it can be a hardware issue as well. I also had some stability issues and I resorted to a Factory reset and this is also better now. So now my Prime is almost what it says on the box
Try a factory reset? It can solve all kinds of annoying bugs that might prevent a process from ending properly which may eat up battery life.

So I just spent the last three weeks getting my prime warrentied. They said they replaced the battery and I just did a hard reset and charged it upper all night then ran it today. Nothing special just internet stuff and I have 20% left and screen only on 4.5 hours and the wifi is at 5.3 hours. What the hell could be wrong with this Pyle?

get cpu spy from the market...and check if your prime has been able to go to deep sleep...getting wifi off with screen off does not necessarily improve battery life...rather your device should be in deep sleep mode when screen is off...
if it fails to go to deep sleep and shows continously as awake or running at 102 mhz...try removing some apps which constantly run in the background...
Yeah, I'm getting the same -- about six hours of screen-on time.
Are there really people getting 10+ hours (of *screen time*) on their Primes after the .21 update? I've read in other threads that a lot of people have seen definite drops in battery life after the update, with increased wifi usage/power suspected as being the culprit.
I've only had my Prime for a few weeks and upgraded straight away, so I have nothing to compare it to. But I'd love to hear from people getting over eight hours of usage. Then I'll definitely go with a factory reset.

As in not for the tablet to charge at 75% battery life, to drop it to say 25% the only charge to 50% to try and preserve the life of the batteries, as it seems the tablet will lose battery life due to a 'constant' charge
like a laptop you can set power settings up so that your laptop doesnt charge unless needed when plugged into the power source.
I just want to know if it can be done

I honestly never thought of this, but I gotta say that's a really good idea. What's the point of charging through the dock if eventually, the battery in the dock is gonna run out? I would love it if anyone could figure this out.
Likewise, i know it's somewhere in the power settings yet its fnding out how to do it, and hopefully you dont have to root it or be running a custom rom, if it could be an app install that does it even better, there are some apps that look at the power consumption yet this one would be to turn off / edit the charge protocol

From what i have seen even when keyboard dock says no battery (after completely transferring it to tablet) it runs without any problem. It either has some reserve or gets powered by tablet.

By charging from the dock when the Prime runs down to around 75%, it keeps the Prime charged up longer as in for around 18 hours instead of the 12 hours the tablet alone is rated to deliver.
Even if the keyboard dock becomes completely depleted, it will still work fine as it draws current from the tablet's battery even while it is "charging" the tablet.
The battery in the dock is only there to charge the tablet, it serves no other purpose.
I interpreted the question as 'this mode of operation is bad for the battery cause it can only cope with XXX charge cycles'
I think it's a limitation in the charging circuit that makes it impossible to run off DC input only (with the battery offline), and the battery technology prohibits a constant float charge of the cells.
It might be possible to tweak the end-of-charge current to closer match the 'on' consumption of the tablet (but in what state), so 95-99% charge takes much longer, but probably only in the kernel. It's not worth the effort for my money...

From what i have seen even when keyboard dock says no battery (after completely transferring it to tablet) it runs without any problem. It either has some reserve or gets powered by tablet.

Pretty sure it just draws power from the tablet once the dock battery is dead.

you're right on the money,
so that i could leave it plugged in for extended amounts of time, I dont want the battery life to die out before i get a good amount of use out of it
I have started to notice it is already not last the 18 -19 hrs as promised and ive had mine for about 3 months
