no, usually the rom contains the root, do u mean custom kernel?
what rom are u using? stock rom go with doomlords v6
custom roms go with what the dev provides u with

Hey guys, I'm gonna get a brand new Xperia X10 Mini Pro in a few days. I wanna install MiniCM7-2.1.9, and to use that rom I also need to install the nAa kernel, which requires an unlocked bootloader.
So my question is, say if I need to revert everything back to stock (rom, kernel, lock bootloader), for warranty purposes for example. Well, I know that the kernel and rom can be flashed back to stock using flashtool or SEUS, but what about the bootloader?
If I remember correct, you have to lock the bootloader first or else an unlocked bootloader won't work with a stock rom & kernel, which will result in a hard brick right?

Bootloader cannot be locked again. So if you are unlucky, you will get brick and lose garanty. =)

ya I did my research and S1Tool can re-lock the bootloader. But am I correct though? My question wasn't really answered...
You have to flash back to stock rom and stock kernel if you want to re-lock your bootloader. Just when you're on stock rom/kernel, then you can safely re-lock your bootloader.
Hi, I know the update 4.1.b.0.587 it's out, and I want to update my mini pro, but I'm stuck on .431 so anybody knows how can I update my SK17A because I tried with SEUS, and it says I already have the last update, PC companion say's the same thing, so if someone could help me that will be perfect..I have the mini pro SK17A not the SK17I
At the moment,4.1.b.0.587 is out only for Sk17i i guess.
Sk17a is till .431 as of now.

i guess i'm gonna forget about that update for know, so i have another question, and i hope someone could help me..as i have an stock rom, android 4.0.4, with stock kernel, compilation .431, no root, no unlocked bootloader, no nothing actually xD so my question is, my phone with ICS is a little slow, mostly on games, and i would like to know is what i need to do to solve that? i read on other threads that flashing a different kernel can fix that, it's that true? and besides, can i flash an custom kernel having an stock rom? how can i do that? i guess i need root on my phone first, i can do that, but i need to unlock the bootloader? that i don't want to do it

Yes custom rom/kernel will make ur phone smooth in every way. But for trying custom kernel u need boot loader unlocked.But u can try custom rom without unlocking boot loader if u have rooted :good:

Thanks! But i was talking about having stock rom with custom kernel, or do i need both for make it work better?..besides, the reason i haven't rooted my phone and unlocked the bootloader is becauses is to hard! XD i remember when i used to have a motorola milestone, you just need to install the app universal androot, or use superone click, and that's it, you have your phone rooted, but know it's to difficult, i have a galaxy nexus too, i recently root that one, and it wasn't easy either but i did it, but with this one, the xperia mini, it looks like having root and unlock the bootloader it's no for everyone
After rooting,when I'm on cyanogenmod9 on ics,I can overclock to 1.6 ghz too while gaming.no lag in using phone too.though my bootloader is unlocked. I would suggest you to root for a better experience!

U must unlock bootloader to use custom kernel even u use with stock rom.just unlock ur bootloader its not that tough.the easiest way to root after that just flash a custom kernel which is pre-rooted( like rage kernel & many) via flashtool.u will have root access

To flash custom kernel you need unlocked bootloader, but for flashing custom ROM you need root and/or unlocked bootloader. Mostly of the ROMs work on locked bootloader too but if you want to play games so much you should Install Pure AOSP/AOKP based ROM and if you want best experience with games you should also install custom kernel.

I wanted to know what are the steps to follow in-order to install a custom ROM on my xperia ray. I've read few tutorial but still I've got some questions to clarify. Just tell me whether below steps are correct.

OK, root is really important :laugh: I think you should also get cwm recovery as step 2 and figure out how to use it before you unlock your boot loader. There are a bunch of ROMs in Ray Dev that are for unlocked boot loaders so you can try some things out and get comfortable flashing with cwm and/or flashtool. If you find that you like what you are doing, then unlock the boot loader. It probably will only take a day or two to figure out cwm and how flashing with cwm and flashtool work, but by then you will be a lot more comfortable with the instructions for unlocking your boot loader and you will be less likely to end up in a bad place and people will be able to help you better, since you already know how to do most of the stuff.

Thank you for the advise.. I also, got to know that I can install stock based custom ROM's without unlocking the bootloader.. is it true?? if so, in that case I can't try something like that by back-up my current firmware

any good roms you can suggest.. has to be a ROM which is minimalized by removing all Bloatwares, junk apps... etc.

Asking for good roms is not allowed
There are a few MIUI roms for example or you could try MiniCMSandwich for AOSP style, just search around in development section and find your favourite!

I have a few questions about the hole "thing" cause this is my first android phone and on apple there was just the option jailbreaked or not jailbreaked
My first question is about the bootloader.
since i was reading the thread "[FULL ROOT] Community RootKit! (ASEC vulnerability) {v01} [20140615]" i am asking me why should i unlock my bootloader when im able to get root without doing this?
Is there any special point for wich i need the unlocked bootloader or is it just written for the people who unlocked there bootloader already?
Then to second question is about the sequence.
Am i right when i
1. get root
2. install cwm or twrp
3. install custom rom?

Bootloader unlock is required to install Custom kernels like DOOMLORDS kernel. In case if you dont want that then no need to unlock BL.

A custom ROM is different from a custom kernel. Some custom ROMs do not require custom kernels (because they use stock kernel), but others do. So it really depends on the custom ROM that you want to use. Instructions and requirements will be posted in the respective ROM thread.
But if you want to use a custom kernel, then you will need to unlock the bootloader first.
And obviously, if you want to flash a custom ROM that needs custom kernel, then you will have to unlock your bootloader first.
Even if you want to flash a custom ROM that does not require a custom kernel, you need to first root the phone with the RootKit. Because flashing custom ROMs is usually done via recovery, and recovery installation requires root.
Hope the above is not too confusing.

I Run the toolkit for root
Then i take twrp or cwm
And then i flash a custom Rom wich use stock kernel
And that can i do with a locked bootloader?
What can be different in an other kernel?

Yes, run Rootkit, install recovery (TWRP/CWM) and then you can flash custom ROM which uses stock kernel.

Take note that by modifying your device you warrenty is voided and you can posibly brick your device

Or you can use the toolkit on .55/.69

then i have 2 new questions
1. How can i downgrade my phone ? just download the fw and use flashtool?
got an iphone till now and there it was a hard work to do it ..
2. is there any difference between locked and uinlocked bootloader? i mean in the point of restoring so that i have my warranty back?

2. It's a little more work if your bootloader is unlocked and you want to relock it before sending it to the service centre. You need to have your TA backup before doing so. If your bootloader is locked, you just have to remove root via SuperSU before sending it in for service.
