Hello ALL,
What would you all say if you had to get a exchange for another EVO 3D or since I'm within my 30 days change it for the Photon 4G and just pay the restocking fee?
I do want to point out I am have had a Nexus S 4G and now a 3D but I have now had this phone for a week and I'm running into random rebooting more often in the last 2 days ... I love the battery live and don't mind the QHD screen. And maybe some will tell me to wait for the Samsung Galaxy S2 but that won't be out till late September in my opinion ... That's the phone I would rather have but can't so closest phones would be the 3D or the Motorola Photon 4G...
Thanks to anyone that reads or replies ...

Why would you want a photon, you would be downgrading, the tegra 2 chip is like a year old already and on top of that the bootloader is locked down tight, while ours is on the verge of being unlocked. I thought about the photon too but after some research I found this to be the better phone, and random reboots will be a thing of the past once we can start flashing and get off the sometimes buggy stock.

This right here. The only reason to switch is if you wanted the old HDMI cable to work and a kickstand.
I'm swapping for the photon. I've had too many problems. The 3d is a good phone but htc left a bad taste in my mouth. Just my opinion. PS there was a guy who bought a photon Dev phone early and he gave it great praise. In the end it just comes down to what makes you happy regardless of which processor is in it.

The battery life is tempting, but that thing looks like a brick.

To both you and the OP, I guess the Photon looks good, if you don't want to root and run custom ROMS, then? If you do want to root and ROM, then I'd stick with the 3D. Or, get something you can run til the Samsung Galaxy S2 comes out. But, my husband has the Epic, also Samsung. It has little support for ROMS. He's probably going to switch to my OG Evo, now that I have the 3D. So many more ROMS for the OG Evo, and mine's already rooted...
I am so not a fan of Motorola phones. I think they have the worst design team out of all of the phone manufacturer's and they usually run as good as they look. (like sh!t)
Just watched a video of the Photon. Doesn't look too impressive to me. I noticed that it seemed to have a similar issue to some Samsung phones with the capacitive buttons not being that responsive and the kickstand (to me at least) seems stupid. I have an Evo 4G and never found a use for the kickstand. It was more of a pain in the arse to try and use than anything and it is a far more gimmicky feature than 3D would ever be.
But hey, whatever floats your boat. You might want to start asking for a Photon forum now if they don't already have one.
I had enough of the tegra 2... If you want a 2009( they started rolling out) chip on a 2011 device, more power to you.
I'm getting the photon4g for sure mainly because it's a world phone. Need it for use overseas as I don't wanna keep paying roaming fees. It gets pretty costly. Moreover it really issnt that bad specs wise for a second phone

It seems everything is coming out half-baked nowadays. The so-called gold standard, iPhone, even comes out half baked. Well it comes without features, that's just it's design, but I mean whatever it has came out troubled.
I went from the Samsung Epic to 3VO. If you think 3VO is half-baked, man, the Epic is worse. Sure you can root it, etc etc, but it was only until recently the DEVs here started fixing what Samsung couldn't, or rather wouldn't.
Personally, remain patient. The lack of patience is what's getting so many people into trouble nowadays :inserting rant: The Photon I bet will have some errors and a lack of an ability to do ROMs I bet.
HTC supports and respects the developing community, Motorola said in a press release "if you want to hack your phone, get an HTC". Basically giving the middle finger to the modders. That alone makes me not want to spen my money towards a company that wont listen to their customers. Plus it has blur...yuck.
Tegra 2 chipsets mite b a lil older but they perform way better den dual core snapdragons 3vo is not a true dual core imo
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA Premium App
What makes it not a dual core? Does it only have half of a second core?
There is no "opinion " it either is a dual core or it isn't.
Sent from my HTC Evo 3D.
I dont get why people are dissing the tegra 2 as if its some terrible chip when it's just as capable as the snapdragon in the 3D.. especially if you play games. Let's not let the fanboyism shade reality here. I'm just sayin...
Yeah I'm still undecided if I want to exchange the 3d for the photon. I guess the only thing holding me back is the uncertainty of ever obtaining root.

When I get home tonight...I will see if I can find the bench marks for the tegra 2 and the current chip in the EVO 3d. You will see the comparisons and will be suprised the one in the EVO 3d smokes and blows away the tegra 2. Its not even close if I remember...but my memory is going...
I would exchange the Evo 3d for another one. Mine doesn't do any random reboots.

Last I checked Snapdragon in the Evo 3D scored lower than the original Galaxy S line.
Photon and Evo 3D will both perform very well in games. Tegra 2 is losing it's touch though, just because it's becoming older. It's still good enough to keep up with current technology for at least the next year. And answer me this, is there a single android phone right now that doesn't have a root method? Trust me, the Photon will be rooted. The only problem is whether you'll be able to flash a custom recovery or not.

When comparing my E3D to my wife's Epic 4G my E3D wins in benchmark testing, though not by as much as would be expected. The hummingbird GPU was and still is pretty amazing and even with all of these dual core newer procesors coming out, it still hangs near the front of the pack.

Vent about what? Four months after the amaze comes out, there will be another flagship phone... I guarantee it.
If you ever buy technology so that you can own the best and fastest, whether it's a phone or computer or something else, then dont bother buying. You will always be disappointed. Instead, maybe just use your sensation and be happy with all that it is and all that it can do.
No, it's a phone, you'll get over it just like everyone else.

Sensation is still very young. While we can't have HW limitations changed, there can and will be things done to work around it (ok, not camera, but how many people actually use it). RAM is enough, especially with all the optimisations lately. Few more quirks to work out and Sensation will be almost perfect. Who's to say that Amaze won't have more problems than Sensation?
So no, i'm not pissed off at all. Oh, and Amaze is UGLY.
I'm pretty sure its gonna run like butter with a LIL more RAM nd sense 3.5..cuz with the specs the sensation has..lag shouldnt exist
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
And its not really the biggest jump either, i mean
1.5GHz dual-core CPU(That's what we have just under clocked to 1.2),
1GB of RAM(dont realy need that much and were just off buy around 256 mb),
4.3-inch qHD display(got it),
8MP rear camera(got it) ,
2MP front(ok this is and upgrade but who uses the front camera extensivly)
dual-LED flash(got it).
So all they did was not under-clock the cpu, raise ram a tiny bit, make the front camera 2mp and made the phone ugly.
Doesn't matter that much anyway. This phone will be overshadowed sooner or later by quad-core soc's like the tegra 3.
Every phone is outdated specwise around max. 4-5 months after their release.
im happy with my sensation. and as mentioned above there is really that big of improvements on the amaze. and also the sensation as is with all phones will be outdated a few months after its release.
if you are really upset with the the release of a newer phone so close to the release of the sensation, than go out and buy an iphone. atleast there hardware dont improve so quickly and you wont be so upset after buying it and a few months later they release a better one cause it wont happen so close after its initial release.
Sure I'm a little miffed about the specs, but honestly our phones will blow the amaze out of the water until they get cm7 on it. After buying the sensation I decided I'm not buying a new phone until it can be completely hacked s-off/rooted ect.. And an official CM build is a available for it. Otherwise the phone just feels like crap despite the specs due to sense/bloatware.

I am only mad about this because i have had 6 sensations and each had major issues weather hardware or software and at times each have been practically useless.... If they took the time to assure this wouldn't happen I wouldn't mind so much. However, that hasn't been Tue case... So I will be ditching my sensation as soon as the amaze is available.
Also correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the amaze also have a 42 mbps radio and also built in 16gb storage amongst the already mentioned specs.
I love HTC but they really let me down with this phone........

If the release of the Amaze 4G pisses you off, don't ever buy a new Macbook Pro, or any Apple computer for that matter.
Dropping $2k+ on a new computer just to watch a new version come out a month later with more ram, faster processor, better graphics card, longer battery life, wings, beer dispenser, and a $100 bill printer built in will really make you want to punch babies.
Haha you really can't win no matter what you do. Buy "THE" Android phone today, it's old hat in four months.
It was the exact opposite when I was on the Apple ship. Buy an iPhone today then wait a year or more only to find out the next big super secret release is some marginal upgrade. See iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4. Worth another two-year contract? I think not.
I'm not one to upgrade at every new release, but they say craigslist and ebay are good ways to get rid of old phones.

Yup. If you're buying a piece of technology so that you can feel good about having the "best" you're pretty thick.
You purchase something you feel delivers the best quality you can afford at the moment you are ready to purchase, and then enjoy it for what it is.
Sensation was that for me. Best choice for me at my moment of purchase, and I'm still quite happy about my choice.
I will be handing down my Swagged out EVO to my wife and I will be upraging. Which is the better option right now the EVO 3D or the Galaxy S2? Or does someone have another option?

Well, your most likely gonna get a biased answer in this forum, BUT, I, being a huge HTC fan, but also an honest, unbiased person, would go with (as i already have) the GS II, I used to love HTC sense, and i used to hate touchwiz, but then i tried twiz 4.0, and its much lighter, and in my opinion, nicer then sense. Not to mention the combination of the exynos processor and the mali 400 gpu is better then ANYTHING HTC has to offer at this time. All they have is qualcomm SoC, and Adreno gpu's, which dont get me wrong are great, but they just cant compete with the current hardware in samsungs S II devices, as a matter of fact, IMHO, i dont think ANYTHING can compete. I turned down a nexus and decided to wait for ICS for my gs II, and I will not be upgrading until the gs III or a quad core sammy come around. Go with the GS II, from one previous HTC lover, to a current HTC lover, you will not be disappointed, Not to mention the Dev support for this device is greater then any other device Ive EVER seen. You'll be more than happy with a GS II. Please, update me on what you decide to do.
Edit: My bro has the Evo 3D. IIMHO the GS II is better in EVERY department. IF I was going to go with HTC cause samsungs went extinct, it would be either a sensation (dev support) or an Amaze/Ruby (best hardware equipped HTC ATM.)
First thing, why on earth do you feel the need to use so many question marks. It is a question, we get that or did you face palm the keys while typing?
My advise to you would be to go in the shop and test both out, see which feels the best in your hand. They both have good features on them so the choice has to be made by only you.
For myself, I have a SGS2 and couldn't think of myself with any other phone atm. On a side not I have never been a massive fan of things with 3d. I think it is unneeded for a mobile phone.
I played with a 3D in store and it's pretty cool, although I'm not sure how long it'll last past the first couple of days.
I owned the Evo3D when it came out in the US. The real problem for me with the device was the carrier (Sprint). Their service is beyond crap so I ended up returning the device more because I couldn't get reception. The device itself is very nice. IMO the Evo3D is probably the best HTC device out there with its 1gb of Ram and 1.2ghz dual core S3. I thought the 3D aspects were pretty interesting. I was expecting it to be more of a gimmick but it's the real deal.
Overall though, my opinion of Android devices over the last 6 months has not changed (and that includes the Gnex). There's the SGS2 and then there are a bunch of other phones. The GS2 sits perched atop the Android totem pole and no other device I've used has knocked it off.

+1 your opinion on the GS2.... But how could you say the evo 3d is the nicest HTC right now? The amaze has a 1.5hghz dual-core S3, 1 gig of ram, and HSPA+ rated @42mbps, and the rezound/vigor is the same hardware specs as the amaze but with a HD 720 display. The Evo 3d WAS the nicest HTC maybe back in july, but then the sensation was there as well, so i cant even say that with backbone. There is a new gen of HTC devices out now, the Evo 3D is a tier 2 device for them now.

Hi all,
I have won an iphone 4 16gb from a lottery and i think i'll get it in second half of january. As you imagine i'll sell it and buy a high end android device. I absolutely want to buy evo 3d because of its ram but here someone offers me sensation. In Turkey, evo 3d is about $100-150 cheaper than sensation. I know evo has more ram than the other. So it should be faster because they have the same cpu and gpu... But why is this cheaper and why does somebody say it isn't really that fast? Please help me to persuade myself to get an evo
By the way, goodbye desire z
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I don't know who told you the Evo 3D "isn't really that fast" but...
1.2ghz dual-core cpu stock (mine is OC'ed to 1.5ghz) Snapdragon S3
1gb RAM
And the Adreno 220 GPU
Although those are just specs that anyone can look up, they're on par with almost every other highend smartphone out there right now. I'm running an experimental ICS rom and it's smooth as ****. It's not even in the final stages yet, so that says something.
It's cheaper because it didn't sell as anticipated.
I've gotten 4500 quads and linpack scores topping 108+ so yeah not that fast.
Wtf.
No its fast as hell and will do some serious multitasking with a gig of ram. Most evo 3ds can handle an overclock up to 1.782ghz the fact alone that the factory1.2ghz clock speed is actually detuned from the factory specs of 1.5ghz so technically "overclocking" to 1.5 is pretty damn near not overclocking.
I would say go for the 3d if you want the better phone.
Sent from my ice cream covered SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
With Root and OC cpu I get around 95-105 mflops on cpu and if I really crank it up around 3300+ on quad standard scores. It is super fast

Sensation has a much better camera, and is thinner. But the extra ram does make the 3d feel much faster. Atleast when I played with them both I didn't think the sensation felt any faster than my epic 4g, but I noticed quite a difference when I used the 3d. Both stock of course when I played with them. If you need a really clear camera then its the sensation you need. Other than that the 3d is the way I went because I have sprint, and because it seamed so much quicker.

Having both of these phones myself, I have to say that at this moment in time the sensation has better rom's which give better performance than the EVO3D, which is a shame because i always thought the evo would spank the sensation, and on paper it does, but the user experience so far with the evo has been disappointing on the evo when compared to the sensation, i don't do benchmarks because quite frankly it doesn't mean ****, the user experience is everything and from what i've seen the evo has a little bit of catching up to do.
I've still got 11 days to return my evo and get either a galaxy nexus or an XL, I'm a fan of HTC Sense so i am dragging my heels on switching devices, i just hope the dev's can pull out the roms which the guys doing the sensation have.
I'm running Insert Coin at the moment, probably the fastest sense rom on the sensation, alas it doesn't seem to cut the mustard on the EVO, my DHD is smoother than this with only one core.
I've unlocked both cores and i'm using the anthrax kernel v2.
If you want to know what i mean, then just swipe the carousel around and right at the end you will see jitters and stuttering, the sensation doesn't do this, if the evo was as smooth as the sensation is then it would be a no brainer, but at the moment it's just not the case.
Oh and for anyone about to say putting a senseless rom on their evo is smooth, well yea it is, but i didn't buy the evo to live without sense, i could have got a galaxy nexus for that.

Hardware wise, Evo3D trumps Sensation. It's just how it was marketed.
During that time, this section was flooded with assholes who were arguing newer phones like the sgs and other non-related phones with superior specifications and ROM support that it kind of killed it's tractions here (not excluding the babies who kept killing dev support here because of there constant demands for things they had no right to push since they weren't helping with the code).
On the outside, it was the best at release, but the competitors were selling their latest phones that weren't even available, and the end results was that people waited for them.
So now you see them trying to get rid of there stock in preparation for the next big thing. I still love my phone. I came from the Hero and knew what specs I was looking for. If we could get ICS running on that little machine, my horizon for this phone was, and still is, grand. It's capabilities will last me well into the next phase of phones until I'm forced to get a new one that will accommodate the new change in cellular frequencies.
the Evo 3d would be great coming from the DHD, IMO,
I just got my 3d a coupole months ago, upgraded from the original EVO 4G, I could have gotten any phone, or even waited for some of the new ones im sure sprint will release in the next 3ish months, and I am completely satisified, I find my phone to be rediculously fast, It takes whatever i throw at it with ease, especially when I have anthrax kernels.
And I feel like once the 3D officially gets ICS, things are just going to get faster and smoother..
So now it turns out that the screen is broken on my Evo3D (bottom part of the touchscreen is irresponsible to touches) this is after the whole motherboard got replaced after I had the phone for a month, so my carrier will probably let me have a new phone, though I might have to cough up 50-100$ myself...
Not sure what I should get though, so I'd appreciate some input!
I could get an Evo3d for free, but my faith is HTC just isn't what it used to be. It's not just the poor quality of the Evo3D I'm talking about (the touchscreen issue seems to be fairly common) it's also the fact that HTC is making us Evo3D owners wait until at least summertime to get ICS update, which is just unacceptable for what was sold as a top of the line phone...
Moto RAZR
They'd give me the Droid RAZR for 50 bucks, and I'm pretty tempted, since it looks like a nice phone. A great SAMOLED+ QHD screen (Yes I know about the pentile), expandable up to 48gb, a pretty good camera, and super thin Kevlar surface all line up for a pretty sweet package. The only thing kinda holding me back, is that the SGX540 GPU in it is kinda old, battery life is supposed to be just average, and the camera, while good, isn't as good as in the Samsung GSII or iPhone 4S.
Galaxy Nexus
I miiight be able to get a Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy Note if I cough up 100-200$ but not sure if I should go for it. Yes, it has an awesome screen and ICS, but whatever Android phone I get will have ICS in the next 3 months or so. The downside is a kinda old CPU/GPU combo (OMAP4430 and SGX540), a 5 mp camera, average battery life and only 16gb storage.
iPhone
Depending on what I'm willing to spend, they'll let me have an iphone4 for free, or 4S if I put down some cash. Between 50 and 200$ all depending on the 16/32/64 gb model. Now I know the iPhone option is kinda controversial, and if you had asked me a year ago, I'd never get an iPhone. But lately, I've gotten kinda disillusioned with Android. Even on a high end model like the Evo3D or SGSII isn't as smooth as iOS, and lag, even if very slight, is almost always present if you go to a list, for example. Theres also the issue of hardware quality and service. The last six months I've spent a couple dozen hours either trying to get an Android phone fixed, fixing issues with it, or taking it to repairs hops and waiting days or weeks for it to be repaired. With Apple you don't have to deal with all of that. They DO give really, really great service. If you take a broken phone to the Apple store, they often just outright replace it, and that counts for something IMHO.
I've had an ipad2 for the past 5 months, and I've really gotten to appreciate how fast and smooth the experience is, and how everything just works. The other advantages would be iMessage/FaceTime, which is really cool, having my phone work great together with my iPad, and the whole Apple ecosystem. Cameras are also top of the line, from what I've seen, and battery life is really good.
I know of the downsides with getting an iPhone, the biggest one would be the 3.5 inch screen. No matter how awesome, bright and sharp it is, it will take some getting used to, to go from a 4.3 inch screen to a 3.5 inch screen.
Other phones, like a Samsung or HTC are also available for me to get, this is just my top3. I'd really appreciate your input, and let me know what phone you'd get next in my situation... Thanks!
Based on your phone listing's looks like you have the GSM version. I would go with either the GN or the Note if it is not to big for you.
The GSM GN has pretty good battery life from what I have seen. The CDMA is not as good which is that I own. Needs the extended battery on CDMA to get decent life. There are a lot of people with the GSM version who get an average of 5 hours on-screen time. To me that is some pretty good battery life.
The downside like you said is only 16gigs of storage on the GSM GN without an SD slot. I just do not get that at all! Why only 16 on a device that cannot be expanded! Luckily the CDMA version came with 32gigs.
I owned the CDMA EVO 3D back in the day, then went to the Epic 4G touch which blows the 3D away. The GN is more in a league with the SGS2 then the EVO 3D. The GN is super smooth.
I personally stay away from Moto's, especially if you like to flash things...
I have been really fortunate not to have any trouble with my evo 3d. I also had the og evo before the 3d.
My next phone will not be htc though. Im very disappointed about ics being pushed back.
Anyway, from your list of phones to choose from i would not hesitate on switching. To the galaxy nexus. Ive had a chance to play around with it a few times and really love it. Updates will always be faster to and of course it comes with the new chip for mobile purchasing. Really comes down to your personal preference and needs really. Your listed phones are all great products. I will never purchase an apple product, but i know a lot of people that love them. Good luck to you.

There's no way of telling about the updates. Google's last flagship device has been completely ignored and won't get ICS. Doesn't really matter to me as I have faith in the xda community to get any updates on to it.

I'm Motorola Xoomin on you!
Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S2 i9100. Those two phones are by far the best supported phones development wise on this site. It's only going to get bigger with the GS2 likely decreasing if the GS3 makes a big enough impact.
No HTC phone besides the Sensation compares development wise right now. A few legacy devices here and there, but for the specs, the two phones I mentioned above cannot be beat right now.
I'm in the same boat, well I'm selling mine, I'm so disappointed in HTC, too many freezing up and restarting by itself on stock rom, moving on

Thanks! The one thing I REALLY liked about the Evo was the QHD screen. So I really don't want to go back to an 800*480 screen. The Moto Razr and Galaxy Nexus have pretty much the same CPU/GPU right? OMAP 4430/60

They more or less are the same CPU. I would head over to the Galaxy Nexus forums and learn more about their processor and how it actually is a pretty remarkable in performance. Google picked out nice specs for their flagship.

It's no slouch at all. It's just older which puts you under the illusion that it is weak. Compared to other dual core devices, there aren't huge differences.

Sold mine on Ebay. Bought a Epic4G touch. Not looking back. The only thing I appreciated about the Evo4G was the development community. Other than that, I'm getting twice the battery on a larger screen.
That would be my vote. And I paid full price for the Epic. Worth it.

Lol I saw you post in a thread the other day that your next phone will either be an iPhone or a windows phone haha
Evo3D.
evo 3d seems very cheap now for a (once high end) mid range phone.
I've had nothing but good luck with my Evo 3d and love it, only thing i dont like is the flimsy backing plate. From reading your post i cant help but ask were you rooted? There are tons of great roms and app mods available in the forums here, all solve numerous issues and improve upon stock in any number of ways.
As far as choosing a phone goes, if you can get a new 3d free I'd stick it out and wait to see what's available withing the coming months, MWC just finished up and there were tons of greats devices announced.
Otherwise GSII gets my vote.
