So I just purchased a brand new Vibrant 4g for the amazing deal of only $250 after I sold my captivate for the same price last night. I have a few questions that hopefully can be answered.
1. I have names in my messages? For example. My message might say "Me: How are you doing?" with the incoming being "*name here*: I am so awesome. Nothing can touch my awesomeness". This to me, is a complete waste of my messaging space since I can just look up top to see the name of who it is. My Captivate did not have this same "problem".
2. Double Contacts. This has probably been covered, but a google search wasn't bringing much up. I have double contacts in the Contacts app and when selecting people for a message. I can change the setting for contacts and its normal there, but there is still double in messaging, which is annoying. It shouldn't be hard to fix and ill probably just end up deleting my contacts from my SIM, but if there is an easier way I would appreciate it.
3. Rooting/Custom Roms. Now with the Captivate being one of the most active in the custom things, naturally I was flashing back and forth constantly because, well, its fun.
-Do procedure for the 4g vary from the 3g? I would assume that rooting and stuff should be exactly the same.
-Does the Vibrant use Odin like the Captivate in the exact same way? Dont want to get stuck in a brick.
Thanks to anyone who could answer some of these for me, I really appreciate it. I may think of more questions eventually, but these are it for now.
you should try going to the "samsung galaxy s 4g" forum. i thinks thats what its called...i also had a samsung 4g but returned it 3 days later. i believe that as of right now you can just get root access. no custom roms or tweaks. unless up to this date a dev has figured something out. hope that helps.

So it is pretty different than the 3g then? Hmm...
Ok thanks, Ill go check out the 4g section then.
You are all probably sick of hearing this, however, I am new to android from the Iphone world. I tried to do my first root with out proper research. I downloaded a "foreign" rom from what I read. My issues are as follows:
-Lost ability to use all four of my bottom touch button. I can not use my home button or search button.
-Lost my ability to Swype text.
-Can not hear or talk to incoming or outgoing calls, connect but nothing after. No connection sometimes.
-My entire layout on my phone is all different.
My Galaxy S2 is currently running
-2.3.4
-Baseband Version I9100XXKG6
-Kernal Version [email protected] #2
-GINGERBREAD.XXKG6
What I want to do is be able to start over and do the proper research and get this going again. I checked a lot of threads with posting of stock Kernals and what not, but none of the links were working. How do I get my hands on everything stock or at least something similar so my phone is back working 100%. Thanks for any and all help! I would like to use my Android to it's fullest.
You can just reflash your Rom. There are two version of s2, slcd and super amoled. Have you check whether you flashed the wrong version of Rom?

Thank you for your reply, I will be checking into this first thing in the morning. I will let you know how it goes and of I have anymore questions that aren't answered from the threads here.
And there are two different s2 too... 4.5" and 4.3". Don't get into the wrong section of forum.

Hey guys and gals,
Just wanted to update everyone, the micro-usb jig that worked so well on the captivate also happens to work on the Note. Just tried mine out of curiosity and it worked. Plug it in, wait 3-4 seconds, vibrate, download mode...
I had not seen this posted anywhere in here, so just in case someone hard bricks this epic device, we do have a backdoor...
I wonder then, can the jig be used to reset the flash counter to zero?
My Samsung Galaxy Note™ is smarter than your Honor Student.
yes it works to get you into download mode which is fantastic however it will not aid in resetting the flash counter like it did on the SGS2
and BTW this isnt considered a development, this actually should have been opened in the General Section....

They are physical micro-usb sticks that are meant to help you recover from a bricking.

You can buy them off of ebay, or at least you used to be able to, or you can build one. I built mine from an extra data cable I had laying around at the time. It forces the phone into download mode, which is very convenient for those of us that flash roms at will.
This one is a fancy version of the home-built kind, mine is pretty rough, but it does the job and that's all that really matters...

I bought one from: http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-download-mode-jig/
I tried it on my Note and it gets to Download Mode fine. Great device incase of a brick that disables the button combos.
thanks man.

I bought one when my wife bricked her Captivate last year, and tested it on my note the day I got it. I figured it worked for all Samsung phones so I didn't think it was worth mentioning. Thanks anyway. BTW, if someone is looking to buy a jig, this is the one I got from Amazon, it's 3 bucks cheaper and works just as good, not to mention free Prime shipping if you have a membership.

i have a jig i used to reset my sgs2 counter that works on the note but does not reset the counter on the note.
Experienced this just a couple of days ago My screen will go blank, like it went to sleep but what actually happened was it just simply shut off! I installed two logcat applications, but I don't know jack about reading logs I want to know what causes these shutdowns The latest ones happened between 6:32-6:33AM and 6:54-6:55AM (it's 7:26AM now, my time). Please help

Galaxy Note 2 turns off automatically
This problem exists on the Galaxy Note 2 as well. The problem is hardware related. The phone is flawed and shuts off on it's own under various conditions, all hardware related. Take a look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjLn2yikYnI
I am not able to post externally due to not having enough posts yet. However, I have had the same issue on 3 Galaxy Note 2's from Verizon. I also provide more details on exactly what is going happening on the following website...
wwwDOTgalaxynote2shutsoffDOTcom
You will have to paste that link in to a new browser and replace the DOTs accordingly to get to it, but once you see the video, you will be enlightened.
Hi All:
This is my first post in this forum.
I have been using Liquid Smooth JB 2.1 RC2 ROM since Feb 2013 and I really love it. Recently the 2.2 Official version was released and I flashed the ROM accordingly along with GApps.
Unfortunately, when someone calls my phone, nothing happens, no caller display or change in display or not even a ring! The calling party state that they hear the ringing. When I tested it by calling my own phone, I saw that I could hear the ringing from the phone I was dialing from but on my S3, there was no response what so ever...to better explain it, the phone is like its on standby...even when I wake up the screen, I only see the main screen and nothing else..its like no one is actually calling.
When I tried making calls from my S3, the calls went through ok but I could not hang up! I have my phone programmed to end the call using the Power Button, but I still can't hang up. I tried this multiple times but nothing fixed it. I reinstalled the 2.2 version 3 times but no joy. I followed the installation procedure word to word! Out of despiration, I went back to 2.1 RC2 and the phone stated working again..but only this time, it seems to crash a lot. I assume its because of the insane chip that S3's come with.
I have searched the forums high and low but there is not a single thread discussing this issue! Please Help!

Here is some advise for success on Xda. Search and read as much as possible. Not only did you post this in the genreal section where as all questions go in the Questions and answers section (btw there is a sticky that states this). The galaxy S3 has its own forum. I moved the thread there to help you out.

Hi Mark, thanks a lot mate! Appreciate the help. I have been on XDA for the last 15 days trying to look for an answer with S3 and the Liquid Smooth 2.2 official but no luck so far so out of desperation, I posted on here.
Anyways, apologies and thanks for the help.
Liquidsmooth 2.5 V issues
Hi All: As I am a junior member and am not allowed to post questions or issues I am having on the developer forum and hence am forced to post here.
I just updated my phone to Liquidsmooth v2.5 and its working pretty good, decent battery life and all that. However, there is one issue that is bugging me and I will try my best to explain it as much as I can.
When I am on the phone for about 3 minutes and over and if I get a second call, the display shows nothing. I have to press the Home key in order to wake the screen up to view who the caller. is. However, if I am on a call and I get a another within first 1 min or 2, the second caller is displayed on the screen.
Its definitely an issues, which I had with Liquidsmooth v2.1 as well. The screen won't wake up when I am on the phone to show me who the second caller is. I did make sure that the camera was't covered and yet it does the same.
If someone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.
