[Q] install.zip - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had a problem, with geting to CWM. It would get me to stock recovery with message:
E:error in /cache/update.tip
Status(0)
Instalation aborted.
I read somewhere that I should change the name of that file so the ROM manger will download a new one ant htat will solve the problem. So I did a brilliant thing. I changed the name of install.zip on my phone. Now the phone will not boot. It is stuck on Galaxy s logo, and that is it. Cant access recovery, only download mod.
Any ideas how to fix that?

No one to help?!

[Q] Rom Manager CWM Recovery problem

Hey guys, I rooted my device with the CF-KG2 kernal and am trying to use Rom Manager with Clockwork Mod 4.0.1.5. to install Cyanogen mod.
I can't get into CWM recovery for anything after installing without getting:
Finding update package ...
Opening update package ...
Verifiyng update package ...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I can't find a solution to this on google or anywhere on this forum.
I also tried manually wiping my data/cache and installing the cyanogen nightly 26 with the CWM 4.0 included with CF kernal. It installs fine but won't boot past the samsung logo, so I had to restore.
Any help is appreciated!
Do a fresh download of a cm7 nightly.
Put it into your internal sd card.
Boot into cwm recovery
Wipe data/cache/dalvik
Flash cm7 zip
If you get stuck at the screen flash the zip again from recovery and it should boot.
Also, don't flash it via flash update, do it via flash zip.

Thanks a ton. Believe it or not just installing the zip twice actually installed cyanogen perfectly. Amazing.

It's weird, seems to be due to custom versions of cwm recovery in most kernels, the other way todo it is to flash codeworx's cwm kernel then cm7, which seems to make it work with one flash of cm, but glad to hear you got it going.

I also have the same problem, errors when trying to boot CWM recovery. Did not allow me to back up anything. and now my phone is stuck on the Galaxy S 2 boot screen and keeps on looping. I think I was using lightning ROM previously. What is the next thing I should do to make the phone work again.
Once the phone works, how do I get CM7 on it? Thanks so much. I am a new user and am not really familiar with the process.

Pull the battery and boot to cwm again. Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and flash cm7 (provided u put it on ur sd card).
If not, flash a stock rom, let boot and place latest cm7 .zip on ur ad card. Flash a kernel with cwm and flash cm7 .
I also have this problem. Also I can't back up my current rom, because it gives the same message as in First post. And I want to flash MIUI -rom. What to do?
Any solutions to this? I rooted using Zedomax's Method. all went smoothly. When I went into Rom Manager to backup, it said I had to flash CWM, I said ok. Now I get the same error as the OG. Don't know if the recovery worked prior to going into ROM Manager. I'm thinking of running the Zedomax's Method again to see if it reinstalls a workable CWM.

[Q] E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (status 7)

Ive just about tried everything to get my phone to do a system update. When i do try to update it. It starts up Teamwin Recovery and says updated aborted. So i tried to flash the update manually by going to /downloads then trying to flash the OTA Sharp shooter and thats when i get the E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (status 7) at the end. So if anyone could help would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by System Update? What are you on now? Are you trying to flash a ROM? Going to /Downloads and flashing OTA sharp shooter; not sure what you mean by this at all......

A HTC OTA update cannot be flashed using a custom recovery, that is why you are getting the second error. Also a OTA will fail when HBoot attempts to run it when you have a custom recovery installed, that is probably the source of. First error.
Bottom line is that an OTA cannot be installed when you have a custom recovery, so just fine a custom, rooted Rom that is based on the OTA and flash that instead.
all you gotta do is go to recovery try to install it when you get the error pull the battery and go back into recovery from bootloader
Thanks i would make you kool-aid but im fresh out... and that didnt work either

Yea i think your right... O well
Hey guys,
I had a similar problem when trying to flash my Nexus s with CyberGR mod.
Tried pretty much everything from trying to wipe system/dalvik/cache/factory reset and also disabled signature check.
Nothing really happened, i kept getting the error again.
Then i had flashed the recovery image (had a TWRP 2.0 running... changed it to CWM) and then the flash went on just fine.
So my guess is that this something to do with the recovery ROM. I would want to ensure that the recovery image used by the dev and mentioned in the install instructions be used.
Hope this helps.
I just reboot recovery and that fixes it when that happens. Have you tried that? No need for battery pull imo

symlink: some symlinks failed error

Hello,
I have the Problem that i can't install any custom rom on my GTab 10.1 P7500.
I'm on stock rom 4.0.4 right now and i tried everything. I want to flash the CM10-nightlies. I tried it with TWRP and CWM.
The error first was "assert failed getprop". I have deleted the first line in updater-script and the error was gone but after that I got the "symlink: some symlinks failed error (status 7) error"
I know that there are some other threads about this issue but with no solution.
Does anyone know what to do here?
Thanks

There are two reasons you'll get the "assert failed". Either the ROM you're trying to install is not meant for your tab (it's for a tab 2 or something else) or you're running an old version of Clockwork Mod recovery. At some point, the GT-P7510 getprop string changed to "p4wifi" but older CWM wasn't giving that as the device name.
First, I'd make VERY sure that the ROM you're trying to install is compatible with your device. Editing the script as you did can brick your device. If you're sure it's OK, update CWM.

Hello,
thanks for the reply.
The ROM I want to install is "cm-10-20121119-NIGHTLY-p4" and it is the right one because the p4 version is for the p7500 GTab 3G.
I have cwm v5.8.3.1. I've downloaded it again and stil getting getprop errors...:crying:
Every custom ROM I try to install I get the same error message...
Does anyone has same issues?

Do you have some ideas on what to do?
So, thanks to all.
[EDIT]~
By the way, the problem starts in this line while flashing the .zip
Pure Performance X Firmware

Make sure u are using the latest version of cmw... Most of the status 7 fails have to do with this.

I am facing error in installing the custom rom on my Galaxy SIII

I am getting an error in installing MIUI custom rom on my Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300. Error description is below -
First I got a warning: No file_contextsFormatting System. . .
Then after that i got this -
Installing system files. . .
Creating system links. . .
Set permission. . .
Update Boot image. . .
set_metadata: some changes failed
E:Error in sdcard/miui_i9300_shuaidi_6.1.22_db05ba4f80_4.4.zip (Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Kindly help me on this.
@atul_mittal1704: error 7 is mostly caused by obsolete recovery. I recommend TWRP 2.8.7
I cant download it on my phone because it is not getting started. Stuck at SAMSUNG logo. Please tell me any other way.
@atul_mittal1704: boot your phone into download mode (this should work) and flash TWRP.tar with Odin.
Direct Flash in download mode ?
Sorry i am quite new to this, can you please help me in getting my started with a new custom rom.
Hold vol up/down+home and press power once.
One of them is recovery the other is download mode. If you can get to download mode you can flash a recovery via odin (pc). If you bork it, so long as you can get to download mode you can recover your phone.
