Applications I never dowloaded - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First off,
Sorry moderators If I choose the wrong subforum to post
Today, I was warned by Google about some behavior with my account and suggested to change my pass. I thought was due my 3G experiments and new IP etc.
Later, testing everything was alright I see a Samsung tablet added to my Play account on November 22, 2012, but don't have one. Only had Motorola and all the time.
Then, I saw my Google account was accessed from Russia but also from United States. And I'm not living there, neither two countries. I see US was the first external Country added to my activity report along November, and Russia was added on December.
The strange thing is Gmail not displaying any strange IP, only local IPs from my computers and phone.
Minutes ago, checking what was download from Market I've found lot applications I never installed. Adults and Games applications.
Do you think this can be because some android apps?
I never downloaded from other sources than market but used custom roms form this lovely forum.
Do you think it's some kind of market problem when devices are identified?
I would like to remove that apps not downloaded by me and the device itself. But seems there is no way to do that.
Any ideas will be really appreciated.

First of all, I would recommend you stop experimenting with your IP . Secondly, you can remove the downloaded apps from the Play Store list but it's a time-consuming process.
1. Open Play Store.
2.Press the Menu button and select My Apps(Phone) or click the Download icon(Tablet).
3.Click the All Tab.
4.Next to each app, there should be a cross or some other icon.
5.Click it and the app shall be removed from your download list.
6.Celebrate !

This probes how stupid become some companies within time. And we accept his stupidity.
How Google allows connections to your account form a different country than the one you're living?
Small companies have this security option by default.
Two steps verification is one option but not the final solution. This is basis 101. Now I know Facebook or Yahoo are a lot safe.
Now the problem is to remove from my account the android device I don't have.
Some friend says Facebook only needs a search engine to kill any players and seems he is right. I'm very disappointed by Google and unfortunately I have to stick with or move away to Apple.

Whoa man! No need to take such quick actions due to some small flaws Google allows the access because you were still using your phone which is synced to your Google account during the process of testing your 3G and changing IP.

[Q] New member in need of urgent advice..pls help friends

Hello everybody, before i get to my point let me introduce myself.. i am a college student studying in Australia and i am of indian origin although have never stayed there due to parents being moved around in mnc from wen i am small. I just bought my s2 today and i am having some big software issues. The set i bought is from china as i am here on holiday.

I did a factory reset right after buying as i was hoping to rid of these chinese apps but that was no good.. Then i tried to download some android apps from android market but phone saying not recognized. i deleted and syncd my google account 3 times but to no use. PS. i cannot find a default android market app icon on my phone as well..
Can anyone please shed some light about my specific phone and what i must do to get it working to its full potential.. simple google, weather apps is not all i am hoping for.. I love being part of online communities for all my electronics such as my ps3, blackberry and alienware but i am very very new to android and smartphones but i am willing to learn as much as i can. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much folks!*
Firstly, you should have bought it from the country where you intend to use it as all countries have different firmware in SGS II. If you have already reset it, you need to register with a gmail account for having google services on your phone. And you also have to register with an email for having a Samsung account. For your missing apps you can always google to find out. You say you tried to download from the Market, that means you have Market installed. But you can't see the Market icon? Check your list of applications.
If you can't get rid of the Chinese apps with a simple uninstall, then maybe you can try Rooting your phone and then use apps like Titanium for getting rid of the apps you don't need.
Very weird, you have the market but you don't have it. I'd say wipe, install Villainrom. Haha, it's just who I am.

sorry for the confusion guys i was not quite clear about my problems i realize now after going through the forums and familiarizing with android as much as i could in last 2 days.. loving the amount of customization possible after moving up from a blackberry which i used to think was awesome..S2 is simply incomparable but!
It seems my phone was already rooted and some sort of custom rom was already already installed wen i bought in china. Its hard to know really since language is the biggest barrier here..

My problem is actually that i can access android market which isnt the same as the rest of you because here in china my phone came loaded with a local version for all CHINESE apps called GoMarket. This here are done quite differently as facebook, youtube and all are banned and the chinese have better immitated versions for their domestic population.. This is a big problem because i wont be staying here long and i am worried that once i am out of china neither will i be able to access this nor the usual android market since i am unable to pair my google account with market place..i have tried syncing several times and even doing factory reset but without any progress
ps. i would just like my S2 to be like all the others outside the Great FireWall because only reason i bought this phone is to be able to utilize any android app whilst travelling to diff countries without the current problems i am having now.
I hope i am more clear now and am welcome to any more suggestions from you friends. thank you guys
so essentially, the ROM installed on your phone bans android market, and blocks access to all things google, right?
if so, i'd recommend just flashing any custom rom like villain/litening/cognition. that way access to the android market is re-enabled. unfortunately, i'm not too sure if the great firewall extends to mobile applications, so when you're in china (even though you have a custom rom installed and have android market on your phone) you may not be able to use your google account effectively. but that should be limited to china, if at all.
i can't see how this would not work, unless your phone was made to have removed any download mode or something to that sort.

Google Play: Store/Wallet Purchase on multiple devices Q/A and Rant/s

Contributors, mods, clueless noobs (reason we have stickies ) I'd like to thank everybody for freeing up the evil clutches of monopolistic telephony carriers & generally removing limits on droid os'es.
Thank u x muliple # of devices rooted/hacked for my clueless inlaws too.
Q: Is it possible to use a paid app/game on multiple devices (i.e. if the Goog account is associated w/ the device? ) im aware of drm when it comes to movies, etc.. Also, does anyone know if it works across different type of devices (i.e. galaxy s2 fone, galaxy tablet, wifi + 4g models)
there are some fav apps that i use across multiple devices like rom manager, vlc direct pro, ti backup, etc and while i don't wish to sound like a total leech, i'd like them to use across different devices while supporting the developers & reducing tco.
RANT: I just tried to purchase an app from Google Play today & since my old credit card expired, i used a different one. And the purchase declined & prompted me to provide PROOF'S of identity. That's right, more than one!! First I scanned a utility bill w/ an address showing, but that wasn't enough, they also needed a validated ID (passport, drivers licence, state issued id, etc).
I mean HOW MUCH BIG BROTHER do they wish to get??? wtf!!! & it was just for a $5.xx purchase, if i wanted to make an unauthorized purchase, i'd be shopping for jewelry or somewhere else!!
... k, im done ranting... for now...
p.s. they also stated, if i refused to provide such info that they would disable or disassociate my account (i forget), so i just said fekkit... lets see what happens to my associated acct w/ the device. btw, there were sufficient funds on the card.

...and maybe to help with the GP issue, try going into your google wallet (online via PC) and deleting the expired credit card. It appears that having an expired card, and an un-expired card on the same account is causing all kinds of issues.
I was asked to confirm the phone number of the phone from which I was purchasing the apps.... uh what, really?

Got 3tablets and 2 phones all on one account. No issues except all the free crapps my son downloads that muck up the my apps section on google play store...
UPDATE: I've confirmed this to work using:
1 primary account associated w/ more than one device (same model phone & diff model tab) - In otherwords, use 1 Google account for setting up your device for same model or diff model & you can install apps you have purchased on more than one device.
secondary acct: keep ur existing gmail acct associated w/ the device AND simply add the acct u used for paying for G.Play Apps. I got my wife a Nexus 7 but I own a bunch of apps in Google Play. How can she get them on her device? She has her own google email address and I have mine.

[Q] Play Music UK - How do you switch back from US?

Google Play Music is now live in the UK with the new Music Matching service. I, like many, used a UK/US tunnel app about a year ago to be able to get Play Music and have been enjoying streaming my 'owned forever' (Spotify etc...) and not on my device (iStuff), so why do I need a 32mb phone!!!! (Galaxy Nexus (Nexus 4 when they finally put it up for sale) ever since.
However, now the difficult bit comes......
How do I change my Play Music Account to switch my email from the US site to UK?

It appears all that 'frigged' to US are not able to use the Music Matching service. I am quite happy to have all of my music 'removed' and re-upload with Music Matching. There is also the issue with Charts and Purchases still being in US and therefore I cannot buy anything as my 'card' is UK based.

Well I havent bought anything via the US store, I just use the music storage and streaming facility!
Me too, but with the UK Wallet now getting 'cards' and 'gifts' it means we can give/request them as Christmas presents!!!!
Im in the same position, but am not seeing any sort of option for this at all?
Same scenario as the rest of you - UK user, created an account via proxy last year. Scan and match service not working.
In desperation I deleted my entire library to see if this would reset the account - it didn't! :crying:
Have opened a support ticket with Google, will post any updates as and when I hear.
Will be monitoring this thread to see if anyone has a fix

I have a "frigged" Google music account I activated via proxy too.
I uninstalled Google Music on my UK GS3 and when I reinstalled the app the shopping bag was in the Music with prices for songs and albums in GBP.
On my Xoom with US ROM I forced stopped, cleared data and un-installed updates, then updated the app via the play store and the link to the Music Store appeared, this time all in GBP
I have deleted my library and will be watching this thread as music match is, in principal, a great solution.
Just to let you all know - I've had a reply from Google requesting a screen shot of the 'Google Recommends' page listing all song prices in US Dollars.
We'll see where we go from here!
this is very frustrating!
got my nexus a couple of weeks ago and got a bit over excited so signed up for google music using a proxy, then after seeing the poor upload speed I have, decided to wait for the new wonderful scan and match service - so far I haven't got it to work, tried deleting everything from before, including anything I had already uploaded - but it just won't match anything for me, have managed a couple of hundred tunes uploaded in 15 hours, but I'm away tomorrow so my grand plan for using the match service is well and truly rubber ducked!

Same problem here, set up by a proxy 6 months or so ago. I would delete and re-upload by library (even though this would pain me with 10K+ tracks) but it doesn't sound like this fixes the issue. It's all very frustrating.
I will submit a support ticket too and hopefully Google with fix it. Admittedly it is our fault for bodging it, but in fairness Google didn't make it too difficult to do and weren't seemingly bothered. After-all it is only because we're all Android/Google enthusiasts that we bothered doing it in the first place! Fingers crossed for a fix ASAP.
I have received 2 emails back from my own ticket, both not of use:
1. Change the upload location (it's not the upload location of issue)
2. Check my wallet has a UK address (it does)
I have asked for them to change my 'Play connection' from US to UK, or delete my Play subscription completely so as I can reconnect.
Note, like a previous person, I have Clear All Data on my app and Uninstalled Updates. Reinstalling from the play store now bring up a new app with a 'Shopping Bag' for GBP purchases (however, I am still a US user!!!)

Tim: Yes, to be able to register for Google Music (before it was available in the UK) I used a Tunnel app to set my IP to US and then registered. Once Registered I set my IP back to UK
Google: Can you see if you were tyo change your IP to its true location the issue persists?
Tim: I am back to my true location. Google Music only checks the IP location on 1st setup. After that you change it back to UK so everything else works. When I access google music from any device it goes to the US site
Google: To be clear, changing your IP back to UK the issue has resolved itself!!!!!

What worries me about all this is that we're all dealing with different members of support staff, all of whom seem to be oblivious to everyone else's problem. That suggests to me that it hasn't escalated to anyone who has evolved opposable thumbs that there is a problem to fix....

[Q] [HELP] Google Apps Device Policy Work Around?

Hey everyone,
This one really has me stumped. My work is finally moving it's email from Exchange to Google Apps for Business, and for many reasons at first I couldn't be happier. I signed on as an early adopter and have now realized I've hit a huge snag. I can no longer get email notifications on my device without basically giving my employer nearly full control of my personal device. They are requiring the Google Apps Device Policy and forcing a 6 character password to unlock my device, encryption, and permission to remote wipe, among other things. I just really don't feel comfortable giving them that kind of control over my personal device but I do need immediate access to my email to stay on top of things since I'm out in the field way more often than I get a chance to sit in an office. The mobile Gmail site works well enough, but not as well as IMAP support with push notifications would. When we were on Outlook, their policy was essentially similar in that you couldn't bring your own device, but I was able to find a nice app called Outlook Web Mail for Outlook OWA Web Mail which essentially logs into the webmail site and was able to present it in a mobile format and even offer notifications.
I guess what I'm looking for at this point is something similar. I'm hoping someone can suggest an app that, as far as the server is concerned, is just checking the mail from the mobile website but is presenting it to me in an app that is able to give me notifications, even if it's on an interval and not push. Does anyone know if such an app exists for Google Apps for Business accounts or is even possible?
If not, then I guess the next thing I would be looking for is a hackier workaround that can convince the server that I'm abiding by all the rules and still allow me to do whatever I want with my device. I realize this is riskier as far as getting me into trouble but I am rooted and familiar with flashing, Xposed Modules and whatnot (I was surprised my device was even approved with my root status and custom rom).

I found other threads about GADP but they were more talking about device compatibility rather than a workaround/bypass for it. Anyone gone through something similar at their job? Well is there any way to receive notifications from the mobile site? I think I recall a few years back when Google pulled sync support for iOS that some iPhone users had to do some shenanigans like this without push support and people used apps that were essentially browsers to check mail and provide notifications. Is there anything similar on Android? Or does it not exist since it's a niche concept? I just have a hard time believing I'm the only person with this problem.

That's for the reply. I'll give that a go. I've actually rigged it up so I still get notifications at this point through filters and auto forwards to my personal account. But something more native would be a lot better. Thanks again.

I'm in the same situation with my company making the switch to google apps. They are enforcing encryption and non root'd phone. I have found that I can use IMAP to get my email, but my calendar is not found.
I have looked into just circumventing the checks....the only encryption solution i've found is some twrp/titanium back up so that you can at least easily recover systems after u've already been encrypted (not exactly a great solution).
As for the root access, ,the only solution i've found is with rootcloak (im not even sure if either of these solutions would actually work. I'm very much interested in a real solution.
Rootcloack didn't work for me, but that was 8 months ago. Try Touchdown, it's free for 30 days.

No luck for me. I appreciate the recommendation. I thought it was going to work when it went through my job's secure portal for setup but not such luck.
I'm looking for a way to do this as well.
I'm in a very similar situation and looking for the same workaround. Currently I'm able to use Edison Software's "Email" app to log in my corporate email account, but without the ability to receive notifications... which is a step better to endure the horrible mobile UI on gmail's website, but still would be better to have push notifications
Have you found any good alternative for gmail/hangouts/sheets without having to install "device policy"??

Nope. It just doesn't work on Android. They gave me an iPhone (I asked for a Pixel ) when I got a promotion last year, so now I just carry 2 phones. That said, I haven't rooted in a while so I don't know what's happening in that front anymore.
I don't think there's a way to do what I was trying to do before. Sorry folks.

I'm sorry to hear that. My educational institution's unlimited-storage Google account seems like the perfect match for this phone, but draconian MDM is a non-starter. Hopefully someone in the community does find a workaround at some point!
I have the exact same problem. I got a new personal phone which I was hoping I would be able to use Gmail and Google Classroom on for school but the device policy manager deactivates a bunch of my settings when i try it. The accounts just don't work without the policy manager, from the internet or the app. Do you think that if I were to speak to the school about it that they would be able to remove it? or is it impossible from their end due to the privileges they need over the account for security etc?

Work profile workaround?

I just switched from a pixel 3 XL to the v60.
I didn't need a work profile on my pixel. All my Gmail and drive apps worked with it.
Now that I have the v60, it forces me to make a work profile when I add my work email to drive or Gmail.
It makes it so I must use a screen lock. I just want to hit the power button to unlock. It blocks those options. In order to have 1 Gmail, 1 drive app, and disable screen lock, I have to delete the work profile, thus losing access to my work stuff.
Is there a way to have it like it was on my pixel? Just one app, and not be blocked from disabling screen lock?

As somebody on the IT team, I would wipe and blacklist your phone if I find out you're trying circumvent our security measures, and you wouldn't be the first. (When you log in to the portal, it tells us every single device that are out of compliance, so it doesn't even take serious effort to find out.) Then we would report what you did and how we responded to our c level exec.

That's not how it works at all. IT admin has the ability to wipe the device if a separate work profile is not installed. A separate work profile prevents the user's personal data from being wiped.
OP- I'm the admin at my company, and I don't enforce a work profile for this reason, it's wonky and works like **** since inception. I came here hoping to see a workaround but it looks like that's a fail. This thing is getting traded as soon as T-Mobile gets a comparable replacement.

I was discussing this with someone on another forum the other day, and it sounds like this is tied to g-suite. I don't know all the ins and outs of it (I don't need a work profile for my job), but it sounds like companies can set up a bring your own device policy in g-suite for your company email address. When you log that email address on to your phone, Google detects it and forces you to set up the work profile. From my understanding, this is a Google issue/feature, not LG's doing. I wouldn't be surprised if you had the same problem on other phones when adding your corporate email address.

Actually I have work profiles set for opt-in only. When I had this happen yesterday, I checked the admin panel of our gsuite account.
Funny thing is, I returned my v60 and reactivated my wiped OP8, and it now requires a work profile too.
This leads me to believe it's not enforced by gsuite, but by android in some recent update. I didn't need a work profile on this same phone yesterday, but had the account logged in since I had the phone so it must have grandfathered it in somehow until I factory reset it.
Kind of sucks that I can't combine calendar widgets and whatnot but I guess I'll deal with it since I have no choice....as the admin even lmao.

I can understand the frustration, but this sort of functionality makes sense to me. Keeping the work profile sandboxed protects corporate info.

Again, that's not the case. Device Policy protects corporate info. That's enforced with or without the work profile. The work profile protects personal info from being erased in the case of separation from the company.
I am having this exact problem with my new LG Velvet... my pixel 2XL and pixel 3a had no problem. I am also the company owner/admin/janitor/sales assistant.... switching profiles to check my six email accounts is a giant pain. Sooooo Aside from the, not helpful, justification for this supposed new " feature" does anyone have any suggestions?
I have asked my company about this. They have not set anything like this up. So, it's not on their side. I have no info that private. So it's automatic. Something on LGs side. Maybe this thread will get some attention. Hoping for a fix.

I agree it's a Gsuite thing... I tried opt-in and then I completely disabled work profiles in my gsuite admin and waited the recommended 24 hours. I have also factory reset the phone AFTER said changes. I added my primary (personal) Gmail no issue but as soon as I added the gsuite one I'm back in the same "Google Play services requires account action" loop. when I click on that it wants to add a work profile.

I don't think it's g suite. Bc my pixel did not do this.
This work profiles thing is such a garbage solution to the problem. Google is shooting themselves in the Android foot by doing this. Seriously? BYOD means using multiple email apps and multiple calendar widgets and me buying an iPhone? Seems to be the simplest solution. Thanks.
any day google can increase the security more and more... i think even if you get it working this time, it might not last long. its a huge pain and now i just access work emails via mobile browsers and i believe Firefox beta can load office365 and gsuit apps or most of them.
