Has anyone figured out a way to fix the mms cap on Evo 3D? I've searched but I haven't seen anyone mention anything about it. I don't believe its possible without root, but I wanted to ask the experts first.
I would be interested in a fix for this.
Just curious: Why is a cap-fix needed?

The cap limits the size of a picture or file I may want to send through MMS. Sprint services will allow larger files and pictures to be send via MMS but the phone shrinks these pictures to reduce the size of the transfer. Raising the cap will allow the other person to receive the picture in the size and clarity that you took the picture.
can always email it
The pics on the 3D are a lot smaller than the OG Evo but 1M is very small. I was up to a 5M limit on my OG Evo. I would like to see this feature but I think we will have to wait for perm root and/or S-off for this functionality.
Hmmmmm....yes, this does sound interesting. Was Root needed when this cap was raised on the Evo?
Yea, I doubt we will have this until we get full root. Calkulin was the first to come up with this fix for the 4G, and it was ultimately adopted into almost all roms. I got very used to having a 5mb limit on mms as opposed to 2mb. As soon as full root arrives the mods, hacks, tweaks, and fixes will start rolling.

Go SMS has a 5 meg setting for MMS. I don't send attachments usually so I've never tested it.
What are you guys sending that's 5 megs? This
Hello, I have my camera settings on 5M but when I take pictures the file size is only 800-900kb Do certain settings change with different roms or is that right? I thought 5M shots shoulf be clower to 1.5mb a pic?? Thanks.
Since 8M on the Evo 4G gave 1.8 MB pics, around 1MB pics with 5M seems pretty normal.
Thats what gets me even more confused...my 8M droid x photos were around 3MB??? Weird.

I don't think the megapixels has everything to do with the size. I'm sure there are other things that change the picture size.
ok, it is what it is I guess.

Low picture file size is a good thing - Pictures usually take up a LOT of SD card memory.
I am pretty sure that it is so small because they are compressed.

this issue was raised a week or so ago and I did some in depth research.
the thread is here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213601
to briefly summarize, the AOSP camera available with source code shows a roughly 75 (i'm guessing %) value being passed to what looks like a compression call when saving the image.
now, htc is probably using some type of hybrid version of the camera app or perhaps one they wrote from scratch as they have 3D support and a different GUI.
the downside to htc's stock camera app is they don't release the source code for it. the best way i can think of finding out for sure, how much compression is being used on the evo 3d is by decompiling the htc stock camera app and sifting through the reversed java source code looking for the compression call.
sorry its not a great solution, but hopefully this summary and the detailed research in the previous thread provide more information and help create a clearer picture of the issue.

Well that is defenitely a pretty in depth analysis Cant say I understand it all, but I'm just glad that it wasnt just me thinking something fishy is up with these pics once they are blown up....thanks for the info and I hope some dev out there can cure this flaw.
My friend has the same phone as me, the Galaxy S2. His phone and mine are both running 2.3.4 gingerbread and are on T-Mobile. He bought his a few months after I bought mine and the camera is much better than mine, they both are on the exact same settings and his pictures are much clearer. when comparing pictures of the same thing he can zoom in on pictues he has already took with unbelieveable quality while mine blurs when zoomed in. Does anyone know why this is? My picures aren't bad quality but his are immense. Thanks in advance, Harry.
Edit: We were both on the exact same settings and compared photos almost identical to eachother, taken specifically for comparing. I'm currently on Lite'ning rom v6.1 but even before i rooted his camera was better.
Are you sure you have same camera drivers? I think that might be the case. I'm not an expert, but by reading people problems with camera I guess that might be the problem that you are having.
Check the settings between the 2. Maybe you have it set to macro focus, like my cousin did.

Firstly check that the lense is clean, finger prints on the clear plastic cover cause problems.

Both pictures taken by ensuring the GS2 is on a stable platform? Camera handshake might amount to something.

We have taken a lot of photos making sure they are fair and his phone is always MUCH better when we zoom in on the pictures.
i have similar problems. my photo, taken outside, is quite blurry and smudgy. this is one of the example.
i'm using the international version.
i havent root or change my rom.
my lens are clear, they have no fingerprint on it.
this is one of the example

But yes, I'm another person who is having the same issue. Same settings all throughout (not dynamic or movie, no macro, superfine etc.). Looked at the screen and it was clearly different. Zooming in looks terrible.
I know the sensation is fairly close to the rezound.. anyone think something like this may be possible?

I'm more excited about this mod than anything else with this phone. And that's saying a LOT.

This would be amazing on our phones! I too am more excited about this mod than any other. I use my camera a lot!
If it corrects for the pops and squeaks during video recording, then that would be icing on the cake. True 30fps recording would great too. I've had pretty severe frame-rate drops during recording.
I went ahead and installed the program and it appears to work. I get larger JPG images and 1080 video at higher bitrates. A few things though. The icons at the bottom are physically lower on the screen so the text on the bottom gets cut off. The button to the gallery doesn't work from video mode but appears ok from camera mode. The effects appear to work too. This is just my preliminary findings.
I'm on CleanRom 4.1 without any of the mods.
Edit: xsnapshot, I haven't noticed the pops and squeaks since the radio update in January. I didn't notice any on the test video I took, but it was only for 10 secs so I'm not sure. I'll take a longer video later and see if I can hear the pops and squeaks.
Edit2: Not sure why you linked to an Engadget post when the original post is in XDA. Here it is so you can get the app. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533238
I installed this yesterday and haven't had any issues with it. I have not used my Rezound camera enough to really notice a difference. I guess I should have taken a before and after pick to see if the file size changed much.
I didn't flash it. Opened the zip up and pushed each item to my phone.
I did take a picture of some clouds yesterday evening. File size was 2.62MB
Installed this tonight, my photo file sizes are huge now, though I've not seen a huge difference in 1080p video quality. I'll do some outdoor testing tomorrow, to see if there is a difference.
I'll try to post some results if I get around to it

Out of curiosity... can this be undone
if you reflash a rom without it, yeah lol...
this doesn't do anything for video, btw guys..in joels rom it didn't, anyway. still recorded at around 8mbps, wouldn't ever hit above that to get even near 20...photo's seemed to work uncompressed though; they're bigger in size
All I have heard about for years is iPhones blah blah blah. Well, as an avid enjoyer of this digital era we are in I decided to try out an iPhone 4s a few weeks ago.
I used a white 16gb and used it solely. Overall it is a nice phone. Wait? Huh? Yeah I said it. But there a re many reasons I just couldn't keep it...I'm android. I'm not an iPhone guy.
Pros.
Always good call quality
Speaker is loud and clear
Can send a full recorded video to any other iPhone and send any recorded video to another phone (although it compresses the hell out of it...it does send)
Camera, sharp fast clear.
Screen quality (yes its so small)
Battery life ( I could avg 5-6 hours usage time solely on 3g no wifi one days use)
Cons
Little bitty display
Could not Bluetooth pics to my wife's nexus.
No t9 dialer (but found an app)
No sextube app! Lol
0 3rd party apps (i know, common knowledge but crap)
Keyboard was...difficult. but I'm sure with tiny fingers manageable.
Not hardly any customization. Open it up from box. Turn on. Use it. Enjoy kind of feeling.
I updated it to ios6 and well...it looked almost identical to ios5. It just felt old and dated. Lost google maps too.
Basically I read a lot of people wanting to hang themselves with a charger at the thought of owning an iPhone. I tried it and while I don't want to chop my fingers off it wasn't a miserable experience. There were some perks I would like to see in android.
Being able to send any video and edit video on the fly was a plus.
Other than that I just missed every android phone I had used up until then. Some people love that phone and that's cool. I just wanted to share my take on it.
It's deffinantly technology and the os to me has, been, surpassed by jellybean. In all areas. So as far as don't knock it til you try it goes? I did. And coukdnt be happier selling that **** and getting back to my android powered devices.
I guess it's nice to see something objective and mature on the site.
Personally, the only thing that really, really, REALLY keeps me far away from any Apple device is the requirement that I use an iTunes account. I don't want to touch iTunes at all. You couldn't make me touch it with a ten foot pole.
You can edit videos just fine on Android, and as far as sending them, forget compression, upload it to dropbox and text the link to ur friends for download. This is way better because it'll be higher quality.
Or you could upload straight to YouTube, or Picasa, or send in an email, I'm not seeing the difficulty here.

Not to sound like a douche but I think just about every smart phone has all those pros.
+1 very mature post.
I've stayed away from iPhone ever since I traded in my iPhone 4 for the inc2 and never looked back. As op stated, the ios is getting old fast. With hardly any major updates besides copying androids pull down notifications and now a bigger yet awkward resolution screen.
IPhone is a great phone for someone like my elderly mother, or a teenage girl. But not for me

That's why I am saying that I wish android could make a change and make it to where android could recognize another android device and send a full hd video you just recorded to another android device. Only thing I wish I had still. Why would you want to wait for a 30 sec hd video you upload, then send the link when you could have just sent it as an mms. That's a small gripe but an iPhone can send a full hd video to another iPhone without compressing it. It shows up crystal clear. Doesn't take a long time. Not arguing, I know there are other ways. I just prefer the simplest method.

Never noticed that. I sent a few 10 to 15 sec vids back and forth without any issues to my sister-in-law. Maybe that's for a larger video dunno. Don't have the phone anymore.
Last gripe was iTunes. That store is very confusing to navigate. Not as intuitive as play store with a search at the top.

I've been saying this for a while. Android needs an iMessage competitor because quite frankly, iMessage is genius. Android also needs better battery life and I was glad to hear that 4.2 or whatever will have improvements but I was sad to see nothing about a universal messaging app. There's 4 messaging apps for gods sake.

They need to make it better. It hasn't really changed it all and it could use some features like:
-integration into one app(sms/mms/gtalk/google+)
-integration of phone number so it'll know who your texting and make it free
-full Emoji support. (4.1 only has black and white android emojis)
-more
Gtalk is nice but, it lacks features.

Apps over somewhere around 20 mb require WiFi, ill have to double check the exact size limit.
You can download music videos and other files without that limit. You can also stream media as long as you want.

OP you did a nice job with the post I think. I agree with you. I really love Android, and it all depends on what the user needs. I'm pretty hardcore into Android, I also have a 4S I carry next to my rezound. They each have their strong points. My iPhone is bone stock and I wouldn't have it any other way.

If gtalk could check the number and allow mms they could have imessage by the balls imo
emmhmm androids messaging apps (all of them) need to be completely overhauled. basically the only thing I prefer on iOS.
